- This is for the BUFFY fans who keep asking me to include more of Sarah in my videos. This one is less of us talking to the camera and more of us simply working. Many people have told me they prefer the raw unaltered behind the scenes video because it makes them feel as if they are standing right there with us on the set, so that's what this one is.
I found some video of Sophia Crawford and Sarah doing a couple of insert shots for the "hellfight" from ANNE, so I stuck that up front. If you want to see the behind the scenes fight footage from ANNE it is on my channel. The rest of the video is from THE WISH episode.

Our executive producer, David Greenwalt, directs his slow-mo finale' scene. Aly has to learn to do a stomach reaction from a Buffy kick and Sarah gets to stake Nick. Plus, stuntmen are just goofy. That's all there is to it. But you knew that already.
Thank you BUFFY fans for supporting all of us who worked on the show through the years. I'll try to post some more like this in the near future for you when I can.

Thank you, so much, for saying this. JW's "taint" on the show should have no effect on the crew's contribution, who did so much to make this show what it was (especially given the fact that they, the crew, also suffered from the "hollywood" poison handed out to them).

It looks so seamless when you watch the episodes. It’s evident watching these just how much work went into each episode. Definitely one of the best tv shows of all time. Still holds up 20 years later.
As kids with a friend we would spend hours trying to recreate Buffy’s fights and stunts in the park. Getting to watch this at 35 is a proper blessing. Thank you so much.
I can see now why the show had 13 to 16 hour days. So much work goes into just the fight scenes alone. For those wondering why SMG and David did not do most of there stunts. If they get hurt production takes forever and on a show like this with smaller budgets that's not good.
take Lucy lawless(Xena) accident on jay leno, she did her own stunts but had to cut back some. sure it wasnt on set but still you hurt the star you can hurt production and she couldnt do a lot after.
Not to mention that SMG didn't have the MA skills to carry any of it off.
Also, the amount of makeup - I can’t imagine how long that would take!

It's fun watching these behind-the-scenes vids. You can see the exact moment when Sarah becomes Buffy, even before the cameras start rolling. Also, watching Stunt Buffy tutor Sarah Buffy is sorta like watching Buffy with her actual Watcher. On a sidenote: What's up with that guy that looks like Munch?

This probably was shot after an already long day of shooting dialogue scenes. Sarah looks tired but I think she really put a lot into The Wish fight when you watch it. Great work Jeff as usual.

So cute to see Sarah and Buffy's stunt working together
If you check out the B vs F first fight in the mansion vid you'll see that Sarah is wearing sneakers. She did this so that she wouldn't worry about slipping in those "Buffy boots". If you don't see her feet then she's in her sneakers most of the time.
There was one fight between actors without any stunt doubles. Larry's stunt double was in a car crash and didn't make it to set, so Xander and Larry did the fight on their own. It was a blast and I could trust those two guys completely.
Hate car crashes.. rip :(
During s2 I used to run over and pick her up when this happened. I was afraid the headline would be, "Idiot stunt coordinator pushes actress into coma." But Sarah told me that this was a common thing for her and when it happened she would step off set to get some fresh air. We all got pretty used to it. She just can't handle too much heat.

Usually I would have her stand in place. That way we didn't have to worry about her slipping or twisting an ankle. Sophia and the Master step toward each other and perform full contact hits. (We made contact because of the slo-motion). David Greenwalt wanted Sarah to walk to Nick, block his punch and stake him in the same way. But it was too hard for Sarah to meet Nick at a specific mark and do her action perfectly, so we compromised and had her stand in one spot and let Nick come to her.
Thank you Jeff Pruitt. It shows all of the hard work you put into this series.
Most of those pre-edited fight videos I posted here I gave to the studio to use in the 7 season box set collection. They were only able to include a couple of fights that Sophia and I talked about during our 10 minute bonus feature they made called "It's not a chick fight".
Thank you, Jeff, for sharing this awesome look behind the scenes. 'Anne' and "The Wish' are two of my favorites, so this was a real treat. All the hard work you all put into this great show is sincerely appreciated. This show spoke to my own high school years, where I could identify a lot with Xander. My sense of humor was more or less a defense mechanism.. I also identify so much with Brendan Nicholas on a personal level. This show helped my son in his high school years, which I am thankful for, as well.
Jeff, thank you so much for posting these behind the scenes vids! You and Sophia always did such an amazing job on the show. As much as we loved the storylines, we also loved watching Sophia kick a little ass. :)

It's so great seeing the way scenes like this are done and moments like that vampire just standing above waiting for his cue are so amusing. It's the little things.
The producers had a rule of not allowing an actor to hit another actor. Whenever you see an actor hit a lead actor it's a stunt double - except here. We wanted to get shots of the actors faces together as this is the only time Buffy kills her friends and it was dramatic.
So we edited Sarah and Sophia together when she hits Aly and just used Sarah staking Nick in slo-mo.
It's a big difference in years since Buffy and SPN

The ironic thing is: SMG claimed an injury which her stunt dounble suffered, and she claimed it on national TV. Sad, "hollywood" hype.
LOVE this fun fact!! Actually, I love ALL of your videos and really enjoy going back to them and being mesmerized by the work you and Sophia (and all the other stunt crew) put in. My uncle was actually a stuntman/vampire in the first season, so it's because of him why I initially got hooked on the show
Literally adored this show so much💗 i was never available to work my after school mall gig on Tuesday nights bc that was Buffy Night...don't call, don't beep, just don't lol My friend would even tell our manager not to call bc it's Buffy Night and i'm not gonna answer.😂

omg thank you so much for showing us buffy fans these videos... i love them... and i love when Sarah is in them... were you still doing the show during season 5, 6, and 7?? i'd love to see the fight scenes and stuff then with sarah and james... and also in season 2 with sarah and james... if you don't have those that's okay... thanks again. love love love these!!!! BTW Sarah is so freaking stunning, i just love her so very much!!! she's my idol... Sarah and James i would LOVE to meet one day.
Wish was a great episode. I remember watching the first series and thinking "Hmmm, wonder what would have become of Sunnydale if Buffy never came." And then Wish came along 😂
tbh if Buffy had never come to Sunnydale then the "twin sunnydale would be piled high with dead humans and vampires, demons etc. What slayer did Sarah play in (Wish) because if buffy never existed, then what was her name in this episode. I dont think we heard the name being mentioned???
@@outtherelivinginthepub1973 she played Buffy, just a Buffy that never have come to Sunnydale and Giles never became her watcher. Cordelia mentioned to the Gang that Buffy should have been there etc, and Giles then called Buffy's "other" watcher and asked for her to come.
She actually says to Giles that she's Buffy Summers

I really wish you and Sophia stayed on the show after season 4, your fights were always so entertaining and very cool! Idk what the hell happened in seasons 5-7, the fights in those seasons were very mediocre and not as creative, fast paced, or entertaining as your work. That new coordinator they brought in on the show had absolutely NOTHING on you!! Sophia was amazing as well, she is certainly a BEAST

It is really interesting to observe how they record the movie scenes.Sarah looks like really like a slayer with heavy ,strong power.I like the vampires faces,the grimm is definitely cool.
The other girl is Lisa-Ray. She was Sarah's lighting stand-in. You can see her in the S2 cast and crew video I made sitting on top of a grave marker next to Sophia as she explains her job.
Its always been my dream to be a director, or even just work on a set to watch and learn. Yourself and Sophia are just incredible profressionals and the Buffy crew were so lucky to have you. Its just such a shame you guys didnt continue with the rest of the series. The fights after season 4 were enjoyable, but not edge of your seat exciting like these were
I agree, the quality in the stunt work and fights fell off dramatically beginning with season 5 when Buffy got a new double and a new stunt coordinator was hired. Always wondered what happened and why Jeff and Sophia left the series.
This is a really great video, it shows how much work it is to film an elaborate fight scene like this. It looks hard enough for the actors and stunt doubles in front of the camera but it looks just as hard for the director in charge to coordinate everything and make sure everything gets done properly and on time.
I love these videos, I've been a fan of this channel for years and have been hoping Jeff would continue to upload more videos like this. Please Jeff if you have more Buffy behind the scenes stuff (especially stuff with Sarah) share it with us because fans are dying to see it.
Seeing videos like this we can see that Sarah Michelle Gellar was "Buffy" but Sophia Crawford was really "The Slayer" after all!

Hi Jeff thanks for sharing these, It was interesting to see and a little depressing knowing that most or pretty much all the Martial art sequences were performed by a stunt double and Not Sarah. I was always under the Impression that Sarah did a lot of the Martial arts since it has been known that she took Martial arts. The scenes are put together nicely but I wished Sarah had done more of the actual fighting.
I know she didnt do alot but to be honest, I think she did a little more than whats shown in the videos lol
This is a real job to be an actor / realisator. I didn't realize how long it takes to make a scene
In the first scene, I remember back several times in the DVD to see the stuntman kicks, technique and speed! In the wish like the short kicks and jumping kicks, great!
As a fan I feel uncomfortable with many questions that go unanswered about the involvement of actors and stuntmen in Buffy. The fact is that Jeff and Crawford printed a way to make believable fight scenes, this being the factor responsible for the success of the series, which brought fame to SMG.
The sad thing is, SMG went on national TV to claim it was all due to her MA skills (which are non existent).

Again...very nice work Jeff. Makes you feel like you were there on set, at the same time discovering archival footage of a time long gone. The Wish was also one of the best episodes of the series so congrats to giving us a great look at that episode. Hopefully we get many, many more behind the scenes home videos like this featuring the cast, crew and stunt people. Also again very vintage 90s.

That first scene where Buffy was fighting is actually one of my favorite Buffy fights
Growing up I watch the show faithfully every Monday then after three seasons it started coming on Tuesday nights,
Anyways recapping the episodes as an adult, and I have to say I don't know how I never noticed the stunt doubles as much as I do now..
I know, you can easily tell when it's the stunt double pretty much all the time. Older shows did a much poorer job of hiding the doubles than they do today. It's a big reason why HD remasters ruin older TV shows because the new high def clarity reveals the doubles even more so.

Called opinions bro. When it comes to the Buffy series, I've always observed 3 opinions on the series as most have. People who loved the first 3-4 seasons for being more highschoolish. People who loved seasons 5-7 because they moved on from the highschool aspect and suffered losses, more real to life. And of course, people who loved the whole series and see it as a great series. The problem (like most tv shows) is that fans/people get upset if you don't pick a side in these sort of things.

And I think season 6 was the best it was really emotional with Buffy coming back and her and spike plus the musical

Thank you very much for all that extra footage on Buffy. It's always interesting to see how you people work on a set, not only the stunt team but also all the other ones involved to make a show work.
Your fights were "tough and rough". After you left the show, I think the fights lost that"street fighting "aspect to become more "superhero" fights with more sommersaults or backflips. That change was interesting and brought something different to the show.
No. Everything depended on how the censors were acting as to what I was allowed to do. It varied from time to time.
SMG herself is a brown belt in Taekwondo I'm sure she could have done some of the stunts but as mentioned if she got hurt that would be an issue
Wow! Now that I know more about the episode's of season 3. It will be even cooler, now that I have seen this video. Because I'll know when it's actually Sarah doing a stunt!😊

I would have role played vamp Xander if I had his WHOLE black leather outfit(which includes black leather pants size 34) and a prosthetic version of his vamp face. Hehehe.

I noticed that Vamp Xander's double
did one scene and took off his black leather trench coat and sat down in his leather pants watching a couple of stuntmen (including one in a black leather trench coat)dance strangely almost as if in a goofy way. The black leather trench coated dude didn't quite pull the "goofiness" off. Close but no cigar.
I have seen a very number of geeks in black leather but the majority of guys in black leathers are mostly cool and bad ass average Joe's. You can tell they try a little too hard to act "goofy" because it's not really in their nature.
I watched all the episodes from season 1 to 5.
I stopped watching it a bit when Xander started to wear a shit color lether jackit. He didn't look bad ass wearing that shit color lether jackit and became way too goofy as a hero. I was and still is a big fan of Angelus, vamp Xander, the Master and Spike. Bad ass villain's!
I'm also a big fan of vamp Reinhardt and his Blood Pack team in the Blade II movie.
My question is this: will there be a BTVS reunion and will those same doubles reprise their roles?

Sarah Michelle Gellar owes Sophia Crawford such a debt of gratitude it's not even funny. For it was the sweat off of her armpits that really gave that popular show such a punch, thus adding on to the realistic appeal of that show's bad ass and thoroughly well choreographed fight scenes. Sophia was the heart and soul of that hit 90's show, the fearsome and highly skilled gasoline that fuelled its engine. Sarah should revere her, and toss Sophia at least another one million, and then praise all the Gods above that she had someone so good, so dedicated, and so utterly reliable, someone that made her look so freaking good. For Sophia basically made that show what it was, and she made Sarah the terror of all vampires. :-) :-) The sight of Sarah and they all recoil and freak. Thank Sophia for that!
Taylor Ahern I think that cuts both ways and applies to all action films and shows. The actors are paid to act, not be athletes. The stunt folk get to work at something they love and get paid too. Without Sarah, Sophie wouldn't have had that job. Yes, she's great at it and I too appreciate her work, but to single Sophie out as the person who made the show misses out so many other people, cast, crew,writers, directors etc. These things are a team effort.
I'm not sure why some fans always point out that she doesn't have what it takes to do the stunts. First, you're stating the obvious. Secondly, why would the main star of the show do ANY stunts that could lead to injury and possibly not being able to do the show anymore? Also, most actors on the show didn't do their own stunts, they're just actors, not trained for this sort of thing. It doesn't make her less than for not doing the stunts. She's a great actress, she did her job, and Sophia (as well as other stunt doubles on the show) did an incredible job at making these fight scenes look awesome. Nobody owes anyone anything, Sarah did her job, and Sophia did her job, seems fair to me.
Both are equally talented when it comes to their craft. Sarah isn't a stunt woman and Sophia isn't an actress. Why would Sarah owe Sophia gratitude. Wouldn't that be Joss?

Sarah hard ignored that extra with the sunglasses who tried to speak to her at 5:09, turned her back on him mid sentence and asked Sophia about the crossbow. The girl behind him perked up a smile when Sarah looked back and dropped it the second the cold shoulder was received. Interesting moment.
Why would an actress listen to an extra? He wasn't supposed to be explaining anything to anybody just stand there and react when they say 'action'.
It's easy to say that she was not involved with the scenes, but will people so well trained in martial arts made her feel intimacy and not even try?
watching how they make buffy would help a lot of directors learn how to use body doubles, camera angles and cranking, lighting, etc. a lot better. you can see how they light up their stuff to avoid using day for night camera filming and also make a realistic fight without shaky cam.
Jeff I hope you and sophia have new projects coming up because Ii can't wait to see you guys in action again!
I miss Buffy, I wish the whole cast became in vampires or a vampire sire them in vampires and make the show again!!! I'd like a show about Buffy & Angel with all the original cast: Buffy, Angel, Spike, Drusilla, Willow, Tara, Giles, Xander, Dawn, Anya, Faith, the stunts, Riley , his wife, Oz, Andrew, the slayers, Cordelia, Wesley, Joyce, Robin Wood, everybody!!! 😅 This is my favorite show and I'm about to re-watch Angel I couldn't finish to watch the show.

Well this is nice! though I'd like to see a WB Network from 1998, declaring that Season 3 of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer is in Production. though I'm looking for some older WB stuff including their on-air branding, network image campaigns, bumpers, ids, promos, launch campaigns.

Oh yes. That's the truth of it. It happens all the time. At least Fran Kazui has been involved with the show from the start. It's because of her the movie got made and she was one of our producers of the tv series. She's been a part of BUFFY all along. So there is some hope.
But I have the same fear about that as you. In fact, I always wanted the show to go out on a high note with 5 seasons instead of dragging it out for more money and jumping the shark.

Why do you say that Fran was involved and on set? We may not be able to trust Joss's word, or even Greenwalt's, but I trust my source who was on set throughout the entire run of the show.

As much as a fresh take on Buffy with a new actress could be good. I have a horrible feeling the industry will ruin it given what they tend to do to other franchise properties. Much like without James Cameron with Terminator. I feel like if you take Whedon out of the work. It will probably stripped of everything that made Buffy so good and fun to watch. Which was the action, the heart and to me that sort of coming of age story element. I don't want Fast and Furious: Buffy Summers edition JMO.
Same. We'll this was 7 yrs ago now and still no rebooting of Buffy or another vampire slayer? 😞😞😞 I'll always remember this show as a cult classic. I started watching this show when I was 9!!! Makes me feel old as hell now. Buffy was one hell of a show and I loved all the episodes were metaphors. Not that I got that until I was much older. Wheldon HAS to take the driving seat with ANY new Buffy spin off! 🙏😊🙏❤️
