    I had to repost this video that I uploaded 2 weeks ago. It was taken down by You Tube due to "video gaming". They claim that I purchased illegal views, or that I used a "robot" or "spider" to create artificial views. I did not do either of those things. They took down the video along with all the views, likes, and comments. If you watched my original posting of this video, I thank you for watching and all the great comments I received!

      UA-cam is always looking for a way to stick it to people! That's one reason I don't make videos much right now. They left a bad taste in my mouth on some videos I posted. This video is well worth watching again, and again, and again. It's a goodern!

    I am a transplanted Hoosier. Born and raised in Tennessee, but have lived in Evansville since ‘81. Not long after moving here I was introduced to the tenderloin sandwich by co-workers and found a new favorite. It won’t replace good Southern pit barbecue, but it will give it some serious competition. Your recipe is exactly the way I make them except I use an electric skillet instead of the Fry Daddy. You do have to turn them, but it works just as well and doesn’t take as much oil. Good video. Thanks for posting.

    I grew up in Indiana and my first pork tenderloin sandwich was from a tavern in St. Paul Indiana. My father bought beer and brought both my brother and I pork tenderloin sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, onions, tarter sauce, and french fries so greasy that they soaked the brown paper bag they were packed in. I live in Florida now and my father is gone but I miss both those sandwiches and my father. I will definitely try your recipe because it is the closest to the tavern recipe I remember. Thank you for sticking to the basics.

    I Do prep exactly like you Greg except after Panko breading, I put them in fridge for couple hours on open plate. Firms up the breading adherence to the pork. I fry in a cast iron skillet with one inch peanut oil flipping twice. So I grew up in NE Kansas and we always had tenderloins even at A & W. Same for Iowa, Missouri & southern Illinois. It’s a Mid-Westerner thingy!

    I love these sandwiches. My Dad made them for us when we were growing up; his Dad ran a restaurant in Evansville, IN, where the pork tenderloin sandwich was a very popular item on the menu. Seeing how Evansville is a very German town, I bet it's Wienerschnitzel some hungry German immigrant put between two slices of bread after several biers, many years ago.

I'm headed to the kitchen now, I also have some Vidalias for onion rings. Just an FYI, the tenderloin was invented in Huntington, IN by Nick Freienstein, early 20th century. "If you get a tenderloin sandwich smaller than your bun, then you got a problem" True! We moved over 60miles from my favorite tenderloin. You give me hope, I can make one! I don't have a fryer. But I expect that peanut oil is a good tip too. I appreciate it. I wish your original video was still posted. I'd like to read the comments. Thank you for persisting and re-posting. You don't have to have a deep fryer. You could do this in a deep skillet filled with oil. I would suggest getting a thermometer and heating the oil to around 375° before dropping in the meat. I hope that you give it a try and I thank you very much for watching!

    Great video, Greg! We are recent transplants from Iowa to Sarasota FL, and you are exactly right, the great pork tenderloin sandwich is a Midwest phenomena! We cannot find a tenderloin offered in any restaurant down here and have searched diligently. Even at the FL state fair in Tampa the food vendors gave us that deer in the headlights stare. No clue on the tenderloin! Anyway, your video saved the day. We are craving one and with your good help we will feed our addiction this weekend. Virtual fist bump from a fellow tenderloin fanatic! Thanks Man!

      Steve W Thank you Steve! If you can't buy them in a restaurant, cook them yourself. Maybe you could open a restaurant down there and educate those folks about Midwestern food! I wish I could, I think a restaurant in Florida specializing in Midwestern comfort food would be a gold mine!

    Did you know that this is our pork version of a Weiner Schnitzel? Yep, my father used to make these when I was young, and when I wanted to make one, I looked on UA-cam and people all over were fighting over what it was. Most called it Weiner Schnitzel but it's actually our American version of it. Mostly from the 1920-1930's Real Weiner Schnitzel is made with Veal Cutlets, made the same way. The pork is a cheaper version of it, that turned out to be very popular all over the country, and that's also why so many claim it to be a favorite of their state! Of course there are as many versions of it as there are states. LOL The original is a German food that was brought here by the Germans and became very popular, but a bit before and during, the depression, it was changed to pork. My father (an Irishman) said when he was small, everyone had them, even the poor, because even they could afford them. I do love them, and the tenderloin does indeed make a huge difference. Sorry for going on so, but this got my good memories flowing and I couldn't stop! LOL Great Video, Thank you, Sheila

    • @gregmccutchan.
      @gregmccutchan.  8 років тому

      +Sheila6325 Sheila, this is a German dish for sure. Like your father, I am from Irish descent, but there is a large population of people from German heritage in my home town. From what I understand the Schnitzel is pan fried in an iron skillet, and the traditional pork tenderloin from my part of the country is deep fried. I'm not sure how true this is, but I certainly thank you for watching!

    • @Sheila6325
      @Sheila6325 8 років тому

      Greg McCutchan Yep, that's exactly what I learned about it too. We deep fried too, but used a cast iron pan!! LOL little bit of both. I have many cast iron pans, and I do love them. Bless, Sheila

    That's funny you say that, Greg. My wife and I have talked about the very same thing. You can't buy great Midwest beef or pork down here either. We pack a big cooler with a whole short loin, rib eyes, and pork chops when we come back from Iowa. Grain fed goodness. Nothing compares! I definitely think there would be a market down here for the finer Midwest foods. And that means an Indiana style tenderloin sandwich on page 1 of the menu. 😋

      Steve W Thanks Steve! My Mom and Dad retired and moved to Florida a few months ago. They tell me that the prices of meat are outrageous down there and the quality is not nearly as good as what we get up here! My Mom has started making her own homemade BBQ sauce because they can't find any store bought sauces at the grocery store that they like. I wish I had the courage and money to quit my job and move down there and open a restaurant!

    Hey Greg, years ago in downtown Kansas City there was a restaurant that would have pork tenderloin sandwiches on Friday, and you had to have your order in by 10:00am or you did not get any as they just made a certain amount. Also theirs came with mayo, horseradish, pickles and lettuce. And theirs was as big as your plate in your video, they would give you and extra bun and you actually had two very large sandwiches. Thanks for the video, today looked for a tenderloin but could not find a single at Sam's Club...

    Hi Greg. At what stage in this process would they freeze best? Thanks!

    • @gregmccutchan.
      @gregmccutchan.  9 років тому +2

      Carrie Linde You can freeze the tenderloins after completing the breading process. Just lay them out flat on a cookie sheet and place them in the freezer for a few hours. When they are frozen solid, transfer them to freezer bags. You can place the frozen tenderloins in the deep fryer and cook them, but be careful putting the patties in the hot oil. The ice crystals can make the oil pop and splatter, so don't burn yourself. Thank you for watching!

    That looks like the yummy versions I've seen on TV that I've been dying to try. Is it sacrilege to put cheese on it? Is there an Indiana cheese that works well? And you gotta do the onion rings video...

    • @gregmccutchan.
      @gregmccutchan.  9 років тому

      Andrew Magnan Thank you for watching. It is not a sin to add cheese to the sandwich. If it were me, being an Indiana boy, I would use good old American cheese. Not real cheese, but "processed cheese food", (Kraft Singles), but you can add whatever cheese or toppings you like. I have already made the Onion Ring video. Check out my channel and thanks again for watching!

      The taste will be the same, but having the meat larger than the bread is how the sandwich is traditionally made. I don't know where this originated, but this is how it's done.
