Hey Matt, I am glad you are reaching your goals with the merch drop and having a dedicated digital store maybe we could one day see the mustang mach 1 back in garage again if all goes well.
@@hotballer02 Foolish for selling it....if they were not overpriced on the 2nd hand market now, I would buy one...but I am in my 20s so I was born too late to get one cheap.
New Z announcement but I still haven't seen more Zs on the road than fingers on my right hand, just crazy lol. Can't wait to see what the merch store has!
Should see more soon. Seeing sport trims now around a reasonable 43-44k. Top of the line still 49-59k though at some places.. but at least the base isn’t in the 50s anymore.
Historically, SE for Honda is Special Edition. Back in the 1990s and 2000s, it meant that the car got refreshed. Then in the 2010s, it meant that it’s on its final year before redesign. Maybe nowadays it means the final model year before the mid cycle refresh?
Just getting caught up on the news update. Great updates as always. I wanted to ask though that in case I missed it on Sundays livestream, did you toast to the final Grand Tour? Seems fitting as Clarkson, May, and Hammond were inspirations for a majority of car enthusiasts of this generation.
My first car was a 3000GT, if they do the stealth dirty and make a new eclipse cross… ugh! Havent they seen how well recieved the new hyundai n 74 is?!
Wow, a lot of interesting news for sure! I"m especially interested in the Nissan Z Warrior, and all the partnerships are very intriguing. I'm looking forward to hearing more!
Yeah with the next gen GT-R being BEV for performance reasons it would be nice if the Z did all the hshift ICE fun things. A performance hybrid AWD Z would be nice, I just hope they keep the R200 diff.
I think Jeep is wrong to limit the v6 as yes the turbo 4 has better performance but many people i know prefer the v6 unless the turbo 4 drastically proves it reliablity which is in the low end of the possibility.
Wunderbar! Another Episode of the Matt Maran Friday Night Car News Show - with almost 40 Minutes of great content again. Wishing everybody here a great day and a fantastic weekend ahead. Enjoy the News!!
I’ve never bought any merch from any UA-camr but I got you Matt I’ve been here since the beginning and you deserve it, you’ve provided us fantastic content for many years now it’s the least we can do since the algorithm has bad taste
Such a Nissan thing to do of not giving us a true Raptor competitor like they had in the Titan Warrior and give us something 4 people asked for in a Z warrior. Nissan just makes the most disconnected decisions constantly
Lotus: I call bullshit on their claim. They say they aren't shooting for numbers and yet this is what, 980 HP, which MORE than double HP they've ever had in a sportscar. 980 HP means they need more battery, which means more weight. They already have a hyperEV with a gazillion HP in the works - there's absolutely no reason they HAVE to make the "lesser" sportsEV so crazy. 500 HP would do the trick.
Totally agreed that future sports cars have to focus on the visceral hshift ICE driving experience, the boring BEV party tricks have made ultimate numbers irrelevant.
Matt, I was a little bit confused on how you said the Accord is copying the Camry with the SE trim. The SE trim has existed for over 20 years on the Accord. My mom had one in 2001 and the 8th and 9th gen Accords up to 2017 also had an SE trim which stands for a special edition instead of sport edition like you mentioned for the Camry.
Manual transmission in a challenger is really nice, but a gladiator and wrangler manual transmissions are not nice. It feels disconnected and not engaging. The clutch pedal feels too light, and it also feels like e brake pedal. People complain about kia or hyundai's manual transmission. Jeep is worse than that. Dodge Dart, fiat cars' sticks are good.
China wouldn’t be such a big threat if car makers were giving people what they want. Good job you saved 50 cents per vehicle removing buttons, downgraded your engines to fewer cylinders, started selling my driving data to insurers without my consent and drastically raised the price while requiring subscriptions for what used to be free. With that track record maybe I would be tempted to buy Chinese, some cars already are anyway
With the Sport trim Gladiator/Wrangler getting standard power windows/locks, the jump up to a Sport S just seems even less worth it now. My buddy has a base 2024 2-door Wrangler. The contrast between the hyper modern 2024 screen and the crank windows is a thing of beauty. He now has the last model year vehicle sold with crank windows in the US, unless a fleet truck or two are still keeping them around.
BMW I feel like has made a lot of improvements in reliability as well. BMW design has been fine with me and even the weird 440 design has actually grown on me.
Ford doesn't want to make their electirified product too attractive here. It will cut into their ICE product. Less of a problem in Europe where the don't sell as many trucks.
It's hilarious because the new Toyota and Honda HEV systems are a lot like the Voltec system GM developed almost fifteen years ago. If GM stuck with developing Voltec they would be head and shoulders above everyone right now. Typical GM bean counters and board members knee capping the GM engineers, prioritizing today's profits over tomorrow's growth and progress.
Note to Jeep (and all auto mfg's): "most customers" is not ALL customers. With that logic, why would they have options and color choices in the first place? Might as well config each vehicle identical, paint it silver. Or Ford Model T black.
Sad to hear about the Gladiator, although I'm sure the manual wasn't great. I tried to buy one in late 2020. They couldn't sell it to me because of a recall on the clutch (they were grenading out of the transmission and catching fuel lines on fire, great) and the updated parts weren't available. Hopefully Toyota keeps the torch lit, but I'm not hopeful.
Do all these proposed partnerships require the government to investigate that the OEMs are not taking on monopolistic power and reducing competition among the manufacturers?
BMW designer and Rolls Royce. From where I stand, it makes sense. Roll Royce have these humongous grills that are just the biggest and most obvious in the industry, so the BMW designer will be at home there. Plus, the new 5 series looks less athletic and more bulky - it has a Rolls Royce vibe from where I stand. Rollses look like houses on wheels, they have this very angular bulky style. My theory is: the BMW designer wanted to work a Rolls Royce and he needed to prove himself. So he used BMW as his way to catch Rolls Royce's attention. BMW designs were ruined just so one asshole could land a dream job.
Good show Cars only news, love it. Whiskey recommendation Horse Soldier Comes in Bronze, Silver, or Gold Bronze is great. There's no reason to spend up for the others unless you just need to spend money.
Matt, thanks for the Friday News. I hope some one at Rolls Royce has some common sense and leadership to say hey, you are not turning this brand into a ugly, disgusting car and throwing away our legacy/heritage. I personally always liked the style and conservative, classy lines that the Rolls Royce cars always have. I don't want to see a goofy large grill and ugly sheet metal/goofy designs.
I genuinely don't understand why Dodge isn't putting out a new Durango already. They have a new grand Cherokee and Wagoneer platforms. They could even bring back the journey to slot under it and make the Durango their Tahoe/expedition. No point bringing back stealth for somethig like this
