- Come join our family of five on our cross-country adventure as we fly our Cessna 182 "Jolly" from Texas to Minnesota and make some stops along the way!
Folks keep commenting about the 5 people in a 182 without reading all the comments. Fun fact, there's an STC that allows a 3rd seat belt to be installed on the rear bench of a C-182 as long as weight limits are adhered to. 115lbs for the two outside occupants, and 85lbs for the middle occupant. Abner Family, thanks for having the patience to continue to answer questions. Loved the Trip!!! In the same situation family wise as you guys and narrowed my search to 182s. Still on the fence about the retract.
Yes thank you!
When I was thirteen years old I flew from corona California to New Jersey and back in 172 taildragger. My step-dad, mom and my brother. Fly during the day stop at night. Loved every minute of it
How Fun!
Wow, what an adventurous cross-country flight for your family of 5 in the Cessna 182! Taking the Cessna 182 "Jolly" on a journey from Texas to Minnesota sounds like an amazing adventure! I already see your Cessna into the clouds. Your flying experience must have been filled with both excitement and joy. Here's to more memorable flights and safe travels on your aviation journeys! ✈🌎🛫
Thanks so much!
Looking at all that luggage and I'm saying to myself, "no way in hell he can have 5 people, all that luggage and full fuel and not be seriously over gross weight, not to mention weight and balance." !!! But then I realized the title said 182 instead of 172 and I said, oh yeah, easy peasy. You were very fortunate with the tire. Great trip.
We are a tiny family of 5 so full fuel, 75 lbs luggage and all of us we come in at 192 lbs under gross. Standard tanks so that helps a little.
Man that 172 sounded healthy. Blue sky's!
Great video! Takes me back 20 years to doing the fly in breakfast circuit with my dad! Keep it up you guys, those are memories forever!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
A family flies together stays together, best family time👍

My dad flew 24A back in the 90s, for some of my first GA flights. Great family hauler- Nice panel upgrades. Y’all fly safe!
Very cool!
I recognized your departure airport immediately, I flew out of the hanger in the background. Really cool
We love Spinks!
OMG what a panel!!!!
Thanks! We just had it done! We love it!
Looks fun. Years ago I was the 3rd kid in the back seat of a 172m. (yes it does smell so good! 😀)
Nothing like the smell of airplanes in the morning!
What a great video, that whole family and trip just is incredible. Pathway rocks, and is a great place for your family, this from a fellow Burleson / Park Rapids, Minn. resident. Where in Minn. was your final destination. Looking forward to Day 2.
Thanks so much!
Absolutly beautifal, thankz for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Very cool guys!!! I’m working on my ppl currently in life and I’m looking forward to when I can take my family on a trip. Safe travels
Awesome!! good luck!
You have a beautiful family😊
Thank you 😊
My last flight before solo with my Instructor getting my ppl. Touched down on a perfectly smooth landing, rolled out about 50 foot, about 1 second and the left main blew out. Took everything I had in right rudder to keep her one the runway. Dug a nice gouge out of the runway too. I think about it everytine I go and fly and I think it keeps me conscious of potential issues we may not really worry about normally. Cheers to you guys. Safe flying.
Always an adventure! thanks for watching!
Looks like you need my 6 seater more than I do! Great 182
Ha! Been toying around the idea but I just did the panel and a paint job/interior is getting done by years end!
Awesome content ! Keep it up!
Thank You!
My dad‘s a pilot we got a Cessna 172, 1957
What a nice family.
The best
Great video. Other than the tire that looked like a great trip
It was!
I'd offer that the tire issue made it a great trip! I've had 2 flats on XC and never got to ride in a cool Firetruck like that. Kids will never forget it. 🙂
The boys at BJI are the best!!
They were great!
Hello from a Northern Minnesota Star Quilter!!
Hello! Thanks for watching!
Niner-Niner..Two Four Alpha....Love it!!
Thanks so much!
Loved the video! Finally in the market for a 182. Would love the setup you have in the cockpit. How much did all of this run you? I fly C-17s in the Air Force for a living.
Nice vid and family.!!. i take my girls for glider flights here in Spain . USA is best country for general aviation.. when i lived in California i flew a grumman AA5B miss it. Here i have a Discus and enjoy flying gliders more as a sport and racing.
Great job! Great panel. Ever want to do video on your panel and why you did ifd440 and Dynon? And how it works?
We have another UA-cam channel @pirepaviation We will be releasing some videos on the panel soon!
Nice livery on the plane
Thanks a lot!
what was your cruise speed? and gallons per hour? is this a turbo? Man i love the video and such a beautiful plane inside and out, nice job
# FAMILY # FUN ADVENTURES
Nice lovely family wish you all the happiness respect from india
Thank you so much 😊
lol...sweet 182 but looks about time for a 206
Oh yes! once the kiddos outgrow the back bench!
Is your plane a 1968 with the Horton or Robertson STOL Kit also because it makes a big difference in and out of short runways grass or asphalt and most amazing is you have your family that loves flying
Hey Bernard! It’s a 66 model with the sportsman STOL kit. I had a bush kit however it was never filed correctly so it had to come off. The sportsman is incredible!
I have always been flying the 182 Skylanes for years and with a family that’s 6’5 and 6’2 which are my two sons the 172 just isn’t big enough and my family wagon that I really want is the Cessna 206
I would think twice to take my children on a single engine aircraft, unless it was a KODIAK 100 🤣🤣
So what year is your plane. Awesome avionics and dash. Where was that done? Thank you. For the info
Still happy with the 182 ? Did you ever look into the Cherokee 6? Trying to decide between the two.
Nice fun family vid. I hate to ask but I am so curious . How much did two new tires and service set you back ? Were you aware that the tires probably needed changing pretty soon? Thanks take care.. And yes HEB and DELTA should be sponsors!
Hey Scott! The tires were retreads and I wasn't aware they were bad. The previous owner had purchased them and had them installed. As a precaution, I had them both changed! The whole event cost us around $1200 with the tow.
What a fun trip. Ya'll are a fun family. Our family used to take trips in our bonanza until #5 came along and kids kept getting heavier and bigger. Now we need a twin! Are ya'll planning to fly out to Ranger Airfield in a few weeks and camp? I work for the Commemorative Air Force and we are thinking about taking our Beech 18 full of camping gear. Maybe we'll run into you guys around the DFW MetroPlex. Blessings!
We want a Beech 18 SOOOOO bad but the timing is not yet. We are planning on coming out to Airplanes and Coffee at Alliance. Ranger may be on the docket if we can swing it!
We would love to see y'all!
With all the gloom and doom on UA-cam this was a pleasant change. I'm looking at 182s for my family as well. The 3 across seatbelt weight limit doesn't work for me thought.
Thanks so much for watching! We appreciate it!
This has happen to me on landing
What's your headphone setup for the kids? I'm about to do something similar but in a Mooney and there's only 2 inputs for the 2 rear passengers, how do you use 3? Thanks.
Hey! I went with a whole new panel and with that upgrade I purchase a 450B dual bluetooth 6 place intercom from PSE. I had my avionics guy install a 5th jack on the rear bulkhead for the back row. In the 182, we have the third seatbelt STC. I have in the past used a splitter for the audio but no mic. It was ok for the little one but not great.
Last I checked C182 is a 4 seat airplane?
There is a new STC for a 3rd seatbelt.
I never knew there's 3 seat belts in the back for 182s???
In November of 21' the third seatbelt STC came out for the newer model 182's. I sold the back baggage child seat and had the STC installed! There are minor limitations but perfect for kids.
Check out STC for third seatbelt!
Load it up because the 182 GW of 3100 lbs on takeoff and 2950 lbs for landing depending on what model you have: A B C D E F
How can I legally carry 3 people in the back seat of my 182?
There is a new STC for a 3rd seat belt
I wonder if you have 5 sets of seat belts in that 182
There is a new STC for a 3rd seatbelt.
@@abneradventures OK nice
Hi ellie hi beastie malachi
hiiiiiiii love u!
How are you getting 5 in a 182
There is a new STC for a 3rd seatbelt.
5th seatbelt STC
id watch the video, but i hate the narrow screen
So sorry! It was just a few shots done this way. Most is shot the RIGHT way! Enjoy!
Anyone take note that a 182 is only cerified for (4) people? That aside, in my opinion, putting you family at risk for your hobby is quite foolish.
There is a new STC for the 182 which we have and were well within the weigh requirements with 3 kids in the back. All legal my friend
WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE PLANE CRASHING
thx that helped my fear.
