I actually prefer tof exploration over genshin. In genshin you spend 20 minutes trying to figure out a puzzle only to get 5 primogems... In tof not only the chest feels more like a "reward". You can actually 100% the area effectively without following a video or a map which really kills the feel.
@@sephroth201 I agree, the exploration in this game is rewarding and fun, which is something I feel a lot of open world games fail to do. It's one of the few open world games where exploration doesn't feel like a chore.

My take: This game really shouldn't be compared to Genshin at all. It is way more PSO2 wearing a Genshin skin. If you have to compare them then I'd say Genshin has better characters, story and general polish. ToF has multiplayer, better open world movement and more intense combat.

Wow, this game looks like a big yikes to me, this was supposed to rival Genshin Impact? The first major competitor that Hoyoverse should be scared of? This unfinished, unpolished, and clunky mess? Really? I mean sure, I can definitely see the potential, but everything is so rough and ridged, this looks more like an early beta or even alpha, not something ready for an official launch, and the story looks very rushed and badly written, I was actually kinda interested in checking this game out, but after seeing this, yeah no thanks, definitely needed another year or two in development, but yeah, this game definitely won't be competing with Genshin any time soon Oh and those enemy designs are just absolutely atrocious
Tbh genshins rivals would be things like yostars games: azur lane, arknight, etc or something like FGO. They all are part of the same style, ie waifu collection with great story, but genshin went the way of not having stages persay. The games arent really pullijg players away too much any more since its kinda defined and most players are combination of rotators or loyals.
People have different preferences. Although I agree with you most there. Genshin became pretty boring to me fast and the only reason Im playing it is because of lore and saving for Columbina. I liked ToF's fighting mechanic more. Just like PGR. (PGR the best gacha imo)
To be honest, the first companion wasn’t Mi-a, it was a gopher. Not sure why they changed it and made mi-a has a role similar to paimon but a little less chatty
"The only voice actors that I approve of so far is the main character and Shirli" I agree. All of the others don’t have any real emotion in their voice. Plus there’s a scene that Jei didn’t show where the crowd is calling for Shili’s execution and it’s painfully obvious that they just pulled an angry crowd mp3 from some site. Honestly after that I just checked out and deleted the game 31:37 Of course the first NPC that sounds good looks like he’s a member of the Proud Boys 🤦
The story was… way too sped up. The only time in which I actually felt emotion is when Zeke was about to shoot Shirli, but it was only a mixture of concern and anger. This is a game rated age 12+ on the app store, I don’t feel like we should be getting that serious just yet. Also, we’ve had no time to bond whatsoever with these characters! I don’t care about them at all. The story is really hard to follow, I don’t understand shit. Why are we doing this? What’s in it for us? Our memories? Yeah, high chance that’s gonna happen from all this. The MC does not feel like an MC, they feel like a fucked up background character. Combat and exploration is nice, story is awful. No emotional investment, voice acting was extremely poor, and way too little time inbetween drama. It felt like I was watching a terribly directed play. I’m gonna continue playing solely because I want Nemesis, but that’s it. This game isn’t doing it for me.
@@TYR1139 I haven't cared too much for the story. Fortunately the combat is good and the MMO aspect keeps it interesting. Hopefully PvP remains balances so whales won't be the best players for all time.
So.. It's basically like Genshin? We have no fucking bond with the characters because it's too short.. If there's lore and connection with them only from the event, then we have no actual bond with the characters.. There's too many characters in Genshin and that makes it more hard for us to have more connection to them.. Plus with the MC having no fucking personality or even emotion on their faces makes it worse
on a glance, the speaking protag and the combat makes it looks better than that other game but after playing it a few hours I can already feel the jank, Im not touching this until they at least add proper dual shock support
It's almost as if a protagonist speaking or not doesn't actually matter unless you're somebody with the attention span of a literal goldfish and the imagination of a jaded adult. It's almost as if silent protagonists aren't a problem at all and it's just that people want everything spoonfed to them.
Nah, it anyway will be shitty because of tier list based character power. Like in Genshin “best” characters is better because they’re usually more comfy in all way, but in ToF best characters is best because of dmg/healing values
Its good to see that Kage also thinks that the voice acting its just terrible. That could be forgiven if not were that the audio mixing and effects are also terrible... and i cant belive you also got soft locked on that cut scene... man its like the game its just really close to be good but those little unpolished little things stack on each other to just drag it down. Also, i got Shiro as my first SSR.
Honestly I wouldn't be playing ToF if I wasn't able to play as the ultimate god gamer (Chiaki Nanami). The game is fine for the most part and I like that I can play with friends but that's really it. Btw I love how 5min into the story they try to create some drama with Luminen't and her brother because it's like "B*tch I don't know any of you, why should I care?"
If they didn't labeled themselves as Genshin Killer, nor steal resources and animation from others, this would've been an actual interesting game, in fact I don't consider it as a gacha game cause I don't feel the gacha aspect that much after my first 30 pulls, I treat it as an mmorpg instead. edit: comments do be wild haha, let me just make some things clear, first I never said I dislike the game, in fact I quite enjoy it, I was just saying it was dumb for them to use resources from other games and even literally stole one artist's animation where they just changed the character and the setting but everything was the same. (MMOByte made a somewhat 'in a nutshell' vid for the company's dumb decisions, the stolen animation was in 5:00) Also about the genshin killer thingy, like what others said iirc I also saw it in a bilibili ad once and just thought it was a dumb decision, I thought that it's cool for them to compete with something large like genshin cause that will give them a goal to achieve, and it's also a good marketing ploy for them but it's dumb once players play the game and quit after a few days or weeks of playing it thinking it's a game that can compete against genshin, I'm not defending genshin here cause I'm not a blind fan, I play gacha games I like it's just as simple as that. Call genshin overrated but the popularity can't be denied cause it worked it's way into mainstream gaming compared to other large gacha games which have been there for years with it's dedicated fans. tldr; I'm having fun with tower of fantasy right now, cause it makes me relive the times I started playing aura kingdom, sadly I haven't played the game since asia server got shut down. have a nice day.
it's a mmorpg where your class is random ( you need 2 of the same role for a class ) if you are unlucky, you can get the same SSR over and over again which would suck. i kinda wished we had 2 ssr selectors so you could have the "class" you want it isn't as bad as it sounds, since SR are usable, but still ...
It just doesn't do it for me. Sci-fi as a theme is so cool but seeing it this unpolished is so meh. If they have ZZZ animation with that combat mechanics + a bit of gravity then it'll be better. There's something missing between the characters and the environment that prevents them form meshing together I just can't figure out what it is. ZZZ nailed the scifi aesthetic unfortunately its to repeatable, TOF has some nice mechanics but they are really janky.

Better pity means nothing when everything besides SSR's is useless... That's like improving Genshin's pity system but turning every high meta value 4 star into a 5 star..
I actually think the ToF Gacha could be worse than Genshin in the long run. Because while it is easy to get the standard SSRs, getting the limited SSRs is just SOOOO much harder for F2P. Depends a lot on if limited characters are gonna powercreep the original ones.
The only thing keeping me playing after a week is using the few characters I like, including Shiro. If you don't have the SSRs you like it's a pretty lackluster experience. If you like it the combat is the only reason to play and you'd probably get that and more in Honkai. The voicework in English is worse than some terrible 90s anime dubs. The story itself is shit. There's really no other way for me to say it. Story progression, character level caps and exploration ALL being time gated just makes me think the game doesn't have any content to speak of. It's like they know they have to drip feed for anyone to stick around. The PvP, which so many want to champion as being balanced despite it being a gacha game, doesn't even work most of the time. The latency and hit detection is so bad that it's almost unplayable. Add to that you need to have certain SSR weapons to even compete because you just lose by default without a high Shatter weapon. Somehow I have formed zero attachments to any characters, story beats, game modes or even the exploration. The map is large, yes, but it's populated by nothing but a few shines to pick up and mobs you'll eventually just run past because even taking the time to kill them is a waste. Nothing actually happens anywhere. Once you've picked up all the candy in a zone you're done. I may give it one more week of casual play and see how I feel then but it hasn't taken very long to lose all enthusiasm.
I like the game but I can def see all the points you made. The only real drive in this game is to get new characters sadly. Where in Genshin you can clap cheeks with 4* characters that you have a connection too (shout out to my girl Noelle). Its a good alternative for people who wanted a more combat focused experience but def not a Genshin replacement...more like a weekend get away lol
@@Lathander81 I've already decided to put it down for good. Even if it gets huge updates I don't see it recovering. In very little time ToF became a game where all I had to look forward to was a daily grind and a long wait to be allowed by the powers that be to actually level up. When a gacha game becomes a part time job it's time to move on, take a break or slow it down. Hitting that point as fast as I did with ToF is a new record for me and I'm currently playing Genshin while dabbling in FGO and Azur Lane. I feel like ToF is a game where they tried for a lot of things but did none of them very well and some very poorly.

I think I'm finally on the other side of the interest bell curve for ToF. At first I was like, "oh look another genshin clone, SKIP." Then I saw all the quality of life stuff they have that Genshin just won't add for some reason and was getting pretty interested. But now I see how jank the story and voice acting is and just how desperate they are to be genshin without being genshin that I'm no longer interested. I would still give it a shot if it were supported on playstation. All that said, I support ToF existing because it is some needed competition to get genshin to try harder. I literally only want to pet the animals, why is that so hard?
"I literally only want to pet the animals, why is that so hard?" Well, I imagine it's because Hoyo has higher standards than Tencent/Hotta. Of course it's easy to make an "animation" where the cat just jumps a bit when you click it. However, if you want to animate petting the animals properly, for every character, for multiple petting animations that aren't just a short loop, for every character outfit, while avoiding clipping between character and animal, between character and their outfit, between character outfit and the environment... ... ain't that easy. I'd actually be mad if Genshin implemented petting animals and do it the way ToF did it.
@@loop5312 Sure. But they also have to work on constant updates for all their games, not to mention on their upcoming games. Also, it's not just one character. It's every character and all their outfits, as well as every future charater and all their outfits, for every pet available, and it needs to be compatible with every possible height difference between pet and character. ... it's not that easy.

Yeah, I kept playing ToF because of it's "lot of features", and I enjoyed the game because I can play with my own personalized character which I've spent 1 hour making it. You know, like a personal waifu thingy 😂 Little did you know, you can do a raid "World boss" with everyone in the server and you don't have to spent any material to claim the rewards, except if you want a better drop you can use an item, and you can get the item about 3-4 per week(?) Idk, I just hope Genshin battle mechanism improved. And put some more features. So I don't feel bored
To be honest the stuff they ripped off aside, the game itself so far doesn't seem all that bad to me. It has a lot of things that could use improvement but for what we have now it's a passable game that could be heavily improved given enough time.
honestly, the only good things that keeps me playing this game are the combat mechanics and tons of rewards (that made us think that this game is f2p friendly).
Something which became really noticable for me is that the movement is way more fun than Zelda (or Genshin). Double jumping and dashing around freely simply adds so much. Also you don't drown when out of stamina. You lose hp though. And later in the game you also can't solo stuff anymore. The coop domains really require coop partners. Also they are actually fun and not just an arena. The beginning of the game (and the story) is way too easy, but it doesn't stay this way. Also the world bosses are actually a challenge. Plus the world exploration is actually rewarding, because gacha orbs are one of the main collectibles. I think by far the biggest problem is that this is compared so much to Genshin, while at the end of the day mainly the climbing is similar. Almost everything else is just genre related. Also I'm pretty glad that I picked the JP audio. The English direction is pretty awful. And due to using mouse and keyboard that controller implementation doesn't affect me. At the end of the day it's a nice mmo, but partly pretty janky.
I think the memes where people customize their character to resemble Genshin characters is funny, but I never really took it seriously as copying. I don't really think this game copies Genshin at all (If anything it reminds me a lot of Code Vein). The artsyles are similar, but the world and combat styles are very different. However, I did, 100%, think the thumbnail was KAF. Seriously though, the voice acting has me so stumped. Franz sounds like Keith Silverstein, who is an amazing voice actor, so why does he sound so bad here? Was the director just bad or did he specifically suck the life out of the voices? To be fair I haven't found any confirmation on Franz's voice actor so maybe it is just a less experienced actor with a twin voice.
The writing and some of the voice acting made me uninstall the game after few days. But I hope you have fun with it Kage! Very nice to see you back again! ☺️

Funny thing is that I have heard from someone say that the reason that ToF was created was because Hoyoverse didn't want to sell Genshin so they decided to make their own game to surpass it. So its understandably why it is so shitty, they rushed to make the game in 2 years and now it needs a lot of polishing.
Deducting the rush part, it only has 1/5 of genshin's budget and 1/3 of staff's amount when developing the game. Not surprised that the game is so unrefined atm. However, there's immediate improvement after the funds finally flow in. im looking forward to that.
@@sephroth201 While I won't deny that it has, it certainly isn't enough to compete with the upcoming games (i.e Wuthering Waves, Gran Saga and even ZZZ) 4.0+ better blow those games out of the water if they wish to compete. Imo ToF is leauges better than ZZZ, all ToF needs is more polish. All ZZZ offers is good graphics, aesthetics and eyecandy animations, nothing else really. When Genshin Impact first came out everyone was blaming it for copying Breath of the Wild, so I can't really feel bad for GI for what happens now with ToF. For us players it's a good thing, competition between the two means they will both try to be better! I do suggest playing the game you enjoy the most, or even both at the same time.
This game is packed full of easter eggs and little nods to other games/movies. the tournie match against Max was a nod to 2 movies, Real Steel and Max Steel.
When you eventually play ZZZ which is Zenless Zone Zero you are going to find it very fun. There is a character called Nicole and the game slows down when you complete a stage but the angles that Nicole does like doing a handstand flip when the combat ends us very nice. If you need someone to watch who had played the beta watch OkCode. Also in ZZZ blue oni girl is best girl cause she's cute and op as hell.

1.0 story is bad, 2.0 story is decent
I actually prefer tof exploration over genshin. In genshin you spend 20 minutes trying to figure out a puzzle only to get 5 primogems... In tof not only the chest feels more like a "reward". You can actually 100% the area effectively without following a video or a map which really kills the feel.

Honestly if ToF hadn't been advertising itself as The Genshin Killer, it would just be its own game, but I also cannot deny that a significant chunk of the playerbase are bored Genshin fans who have nothing to do while waiting for Sumeru to drop. It's a gross marketing strategy but honestly I would never have bothered with this game if not for the slew of articles dramatically proclaiming it as the newest competitor who would singlehandedly drive Hoyoverse out of business because it has **gasp, shock, the audacity** character customization
EDIT: wow I forgot about this, I deleted ToF a month ago because Sumeru dropped and I don't like co-op. If there's lore and connection with them only from the event, then we have no actual bond with the characters..
(MMOByte made a somewhat 'in a nutshell' vid for the company's dumb decisions, the stolen animation was in 5:00)
Also about the genshin killer thingy, like what others said iirc I also saw it in a bilibili ad once and just thought it was a dumb decision, I thought that it's cool for them to compete with something large like genshin cause that will give them a goal to achieve, and it's also a good marketing ploy for them but it's dumb once players play the game and quit after a few days or weeks of playing it thinking it's a game that can compete against genshin, I'm not defending genshin here cause I'm not a blind fan, I play gacha games I like it's just as simple as that. Call genshin overrated but the popularity can't be denied cause it worked it's way into mainstream gaming compared to other large gacha games which have been there for years with it's dedicated fans.
tldr; I'm having fun with tower of fantasy right now, cause it makes me relive the times I started playing aura kingdom, sadly I haven't played the game since asia server got shut down. have a nice day.
it's a mmorpg where your class is random ( you need 2 of the same role for a class )
if you are unlucky, you can get the same SSR over and over again which would suck.

it isn't as bad as it sounds, since SR are usable, but still ...

Great video as always can’t stop laughing😆
Waiting for your video in Sumeru :D
The playable char designs are just boring af.

But now I see how jank the story and voice acting is and just how desperate they are to be genshin without being genshin that I'm no longer interested. All that said, I support ToF existing because it is some needed competition to get genshin to try harder. I literally only want to pet the animals, why is that so hard?
"I literally only want to pet the animals, why is that so hard?"
Well, I imagine it's because Hoyo has higher standards than Tencent/Hotta.

2.0 is when the game actually improves
To be honest the stuff they ripped off aside, the game itself so far doesn't seem all that bad to me. It has a lot of things that could use improvement but for what we have now it's a passable game that could be heavily improved given enough time.
I like when they made an ad and put venti in there
If it goes on PsN, I'll definitely give this a try. I'm a fan of the kind of world this is, it just looks clunky as hell.
honestly, the only good things that keeps me playing this game are the combat mechanics and tons of rewards (that made us think that this game is f2p friendly).

Got my rolling over here.
Wait, did Jei switch to ToF because Zuzu became the main character in Genshin?
I've played alot of free RPG MMO's in the past 2 decades and it's pretty hard for me to justify spending any amount of money in this game...
8:32 that was CRUEL LMFAO
Tbh from what i've heard, controller was essentially an after thought for this game, its great and i really like it but man, if they can improve some things (not even talking about the time gated levels, story missions, and chests) it would be vastly better.
The we’re going on in China for a while before opening new serves, is crazy that they still this unpolished on minor things…
@@biazacha Basically, BA and Arknights? It did have bugs that was fixed in China for long time and only fixed after some updates came though both game bugs aren't troubling or bothering anyone and some are quite fun to mess around with so yea.
@@sephroth201 Sounds hella copium lmao
@@moebarabitch Have you played 2.0 on cn server? It does improved a lot
@@sephroth201 While I won't deny that it has, it certainly isn't enough to compete with the upcoming games (i.e Wuthering Waves, Gran Saga and even ZZZ) 4.0+ better blow those games out of the water if they wish to compete.
P.S: I included ZZZ cause many more people care about that game more just cause it looks better (that's how a mihoyo fan's brain works, they care far more about graphics and aesthetic than gameplay) even though the combat is braindead. Imo ToF is leauges better than ZZZ, all ToF needs is more polish. All ZZZ offers is good graphics, aesthetics and eyecandy animations, nothing else really. In fact, i'd even say Honkai Impact 3rd is better.
@@moebarabitch c'mon honkai impact 3D is really good
Waiting for loading is always hell
finally my dad's back , i've never been happier
The budget definitely went to the Japanese VA's lol
the japanese VA's aren't much better tbh. And have you seen the lineup they got for the english VA's? A top quality line up. The VA direction is awful, probably have a bad director or something, because with the VA lineup they have, it should be wayyy better than what it is.
"The game is more pleasurable after I got Shiro."
That was literally my experience too, until I got locked out of questing for the 5th time and grew tired
After 82 trillion ads....now Kage has a video....it looks VERY much like a code vein genshin just like I thought xD
i haven't laughed like this in a while 😭😭
This game had a bit of hype as real competition for Genshin and when it came out...it was disappointing. Not bad but just disappointing.
I legit turn off my brain and played tof and it’s been a blast actually.
For me, first impression is really important. I can still remember the hype when Genshin got released and it left me tons of good memories and rich emotions! I admit those Genshin cut scenes really went into my heart especially Xiao's appearance. 💓
Tbh ToF should invest more on their character lore/stories that players will feel attached to them because I felt like skipping everything unlike Genshin, they made me so hooked to their story so much.
The only character I find amusing in this game was the guy named Crow and I'm looking forward to his story.. 😺
I play both games and I'm enjoying so far. ^^
20:33 I agree. That motorcycle should have a gas option.
When Genshin Impact first came out everyone was blaming it for copying Breath of the Wild, so I can't really feel bad for GI for what happens now with ToF. For us players it's a good thing, competition between the two means they will both try to be better!
I do suggest playing the game you enjoy the most, or even both at the same time.
based
Most based GI player.
i play both and is fun
I've seen alot of people say this is better than genshin. The exploration and combat, is better imo but story for genshin is more fun
11:13
my problem with the plot in a nutshell.
also, the hoverboard's cooldown is on ground only. you can spam it on water.
I feel like ZZZ is gonna be Honkai and Jet Set Radio smacked together. At least that's the feel I get from it.
