Kenny in NM here again. My wife Sally and I try to eat plant-based but we stray too much. We have a greenhouse growing many veggies in sawdust and sand (Mittleider), as well as two Greenstalks and two tower gardens. We have a farm stand in front of our house offering fresh veggies to the residents of our small town (population 700) on an honor system where we say Pay what you think it's worth or can afford. I am a 79 year young (very healthy but want to stay that way) veteran on a small fixed income Sally and I want to tell you what an inspiration you are to us, with prices as they are, to grow even more of our own food and keep a long term food storage as you do. And thank you for giving me hope to grow outside in our towers in the summer in 90 to 100 degrees heat. Indoors in winter on one of the towers we'll have a baby green extension kit (16 spots) and the regular 16 spots below it. That way I can have a system for lettuce whereby I have the seedlings in the nursery for 2 weeks, then place them in the baby green section for 2 weeks and finally moved them into the regular spots below for two weeks for finishing. This rotating then like that well have at least one head of lettuce per day to eat on a regular basis. On the other tower we will grow the other veggies we eat regularly but will pay attention to your planting strategy. Thanks again Stephanie from Sally and I.
Your cabbage looks so delicious ❤ I am on the same page with your thinking especially now that we are retired and living on a fixed income That is why I started watching your channel to learn as many tips as possible to live within our means. We already harvested 3 mini cucumbers 🥒 and they were delicious also harvested some lettuce and a few Arbol pepper And 2 kohlrabi I Can’t wait to taste more of our food 😂 and set up our new tower, where I have it the cord is too short, so I can’t set it up where I wanted it unless I drain one of the towers but I don't want to move it in fear of damaging the vining vegetables. So I may wait til the water level gets low and move it plus I watch your channel for our health too. ❤
Hi. Kenny here. So far I have two towers. I want to use them outside in the summer in my greenhouse but am worried about the water in the reservoir getting too warm for the roots. I live in the NE plains of NM at 6000 feet elevation, where in summer the morning lows are in the 50s but afternoon highs are ofter low to high 90s with humidities in teens to single digits. I love your channel and I thank you for all your great info but I never heard you say what your sumertime high temps are. Wondering if I have to worry about the water temp in the reservoir. Do you? And what are your temps?
Hi, my temps are very similar. You will be fine. When it's really hot out for a few days I will top off the tanks off with cool water but I have friends in Florida who grow in extreme heat without issues most of the time.
@@alternativehomesteadingchannel Thank you so much for your very timely reply! I do have one request though. I have a very analytical brain. I noticed that you do not pause at all between sentences as if there is no period lol. But my brain needs that micro second pause to process what you said in that sentence. Could you pause between sentences for a micro second. But I thank you in for your very informative videos and appreciate you so much in any case even if you don't pause😁❤️.
