They supposedly send you to kill a man who you turn into throughout the game; a misterious mercenary who is arming and helping both factions, and isn't that what you do the entire game in order to find him? When you're sent to prison, you destroy a weak concrete wall, then you kill everybody. Later on the game you meet the Jackal on the same prison but there's nobody alive, the prison is in the exact condition you left it, but more importantly if you go check that concrete wall you destroyed is magically "whole" again, as if it had never happened. At the end of the game, the last time you meet him, on the table where he leaves the battery and the diamonds, there's a flare gun which he could have used for blowing up the dynamite. What if the player is just the dark side of the Jackal, and he sends him to die in this two possible endings? For me this is just a mercenary version of Fight Club, which makes a lot more sense than a plain contract killer who goes out of purpose and then realizes he's bad enough to commit suicide

They were both physically sick. Also, symbolically they needed to end their presence in the country once and for all - the Jackal would be forever hounded by the country for weapons (reigniting the war), or someone would track the players history, causing affected people to rebel, fight, take over etc, causing paramilitaries to take action and a monumental shit-storm of further conflict in the future. They are the cancer, the cells that cause the wars to keep restarting.

I think if it comes to the setting and the story FC2 was the best of all. A realistic scenario in a very nice setting But in points of the gameplay the newer ones are unbeatable
I love FC2 for its location being realistically unstable (like many African conflicts in the past). In addition the weapons there are all and low-tech and worn down with their ability to rust, jam, and even disintegrate. For me the weapons are incredibly immersive for the setting. FC3 was good, but the abundance of modern weapons and electronics eliminated a bit of the immersion, even with the heavy mercenary presence.
The player is just as bad as the Jackal. That's the point of the story... Who has the real Heart Of Darkness the men who start the wars or the men who fight in them...
The Jackal had a flare gun so he could have detonate the dynamite with that instead and the player is in his last stage of malaria he would be end up dead either way. There's no good ending to this game but you shouldn't worry at least you died serving your purpose saving the people in Africa.
My personal headcanon is that regardless of the choice, both Jackal and the protagonist lived. Jackal would become Jack from FC1 (it looks more futuristic), and your protagonist would actually fake his suicide and got out of the country.
@Anakin Skywalker It's a stretch, but I'm assuming that if you choose the Diamond option, Jackal actually got a working fuse and blow it up from a distance.
I like this a lot. This is the only far cry with a proper setting. No sci-fi bullshit, no insane shaman chick on meth, no taking over a tribal kingdom, no cult shit with magical prophecy, only a heart of darkness, and a somewhat interesting portrayal of post colonial Africa's bloody struggle. It's the only game where in the end you're left feeling like a speck of dust in the grand scheme of things. You probably got played like a damn fiddle, or was merely a pawn for some big players' power game. You got nothing out of it, you didn't fix anything, and your sacrifice is ultimately in vain since you know damn well the cycle is only gonna repeat itself. All your struggle was for nothing, and it is this that makes the franchise's title truly meaningful.
Except you helped save millions of people, you made a good difference. Also so you're against tribal things? That makes no sense since you like this game for being a somewhat accurate portrayal of Africa
I really thought that if I have chosen the diamond case there would be no way Jackal would detonate himself and the cliff meaning that soldiers would go after the refugees, so I have decided that if I choose the battery then even if Jackal escapes and is not shot in the head, the cliff is detonated and people are safe. That's the only point in the game where I did care about the story at all, the rest was kinda boring to me tbh.
I perceived this as way to overly simplistic to evoke genuine concern. The portrayal of "soldier bad, war bad, eliminating soldiers ends war" oversimplifies reality to a comical degree. What about the countless children who witnessed the loss of loved ones and may harbor a vengeful resentment throughout their lives? Have they been conveniently overlooked? This game about driving Jeeps and shooting peeps, took itself far too seriously, especially given the lack of moral depth in its storyline.
I maxed up my player..but damn i chose the dynamite and i got killed. But can we throw a grenade inside the hut when the jackal closes the door?but i think he will not die though
This game is as old as me 😂 i remember playing this back then didn't manage to see the ending tho cuz i was just a child who spoke barely any english at the time so i have to figure out what every mission leads to
It was and not because we were noobs, but because it was programmed badly, many many times I had the AR's scope cursor RIGHT at the head of a standing enemy, I hit the trigger ONCE and it doesn't hit him, I quickly reposition the cursor on him, shoot again and it misses AGAIN, at many points I was like "fuck you my aiming is good, it's you who insist on making my shots miss"...and yes I had the accuracy upgrade purchased
jax to the max no wait, i thought that you were replying to the comment with the dude who broke his pc, and i was like "whats so cool about someones broken pc" so my bad
The story of FC2 is greatly under-appreciated. I, myself, have played through the game two times and here is what I got from the story. Throughout the game, the player does every single thing that a bad guy would do: he kills his own employers for money, and helps escalate the conflict by doing work for both factions, just like the Jackal. He realizes that he is no different from him, that he IS him. So they decide to end this horrendous situation. One man detones the dynamite, the other makes sure that the refugees go through the border safely. Then, both men die, because they are part of this whole thing, and they must be terminated also. Nevertheless, the Jackal never commits suicide. Even if you take the diamonds, he uses his flare gun to set off the explosion. Throughout the game, he has managed to get inside the player's head, so deeply that he can't see what's in front of him. The Jackal flees, while the player dies, and Africa doesn't win.
@@frogglen6350 you use that argument yet how was jason Brody a young kid able to become he most feared warrior of the rakyat/rook island so if you're gonna criticise farcry 2 for that you have to do it even more so for farcry 3
Isue I have here is you playing on Game Journalist difficulty.... I never trusted the Jackel to just turn over diamonds and cross the boarder... He likely survives lighting the dynamite, its not that hard, your mercenary character is suddenly comfortable playing the Marter for the jackals cause. However I do enjoy the roumer we will never find to be true, that Jackle was possible Jack Carver from the originals.
Can someone please explain to me is it actually possible to detonate dynamite with an electrical charge or does the blasting caps need specifically a spark in which case a car battery would work theoritically by short circuiting the battery whilst the other ends of the wire are tied directly to the blasting cap ? Ive tried looking up on google detonating dynamite via car battery cant find anything.
No, I frankly don't. I dont understand what these characters, whom are obviously the devil themselve, suddenly turn goody 2 shoe when they are almost out of it.
The Jackal probably was about to succumb to the cancer he had and decided he spent his life arming these factions and causing so much death and destruction, he would end his life attempting to save the refugees so his death meant something.
To me this was basically Blood Diamond and I love that movie but this game was beyond me too bad it should of have Lions 🦁 since it’s in Africa I hope they remastered it and add Lions in the wild
I hate this ending because I hate non-open-ended open-world games. I mean why do I have to load up a save point to continue exploring, super unsatisfactorily annoying.
hey i completed the game 5 minutes ago , and am i the only Person wich rockets are going crazy when shooting at the last mission? or was this a bug. And i had killed the Jackal after being in the prison with him and idk why i was able to shoot him outside the Prison
The only criticism I have for this game is that it is very hard to do stealth kills. I mean when I try to shoot one target they move their head so fast that it frustrates me a lot.
is there no start of the game ending like the other far cry games? Like instead of waking up and running out of the warzone, you kill everyone right there and end the game?
some notes. at the case of dynamite, there isn't any det cord...jackal played you. also, the jackal never shows any signs of illness and could literally just fucking stop what he's doing, and live out his days in exile. I mean hell, if he got some fucking plastic surgery you'd never recognize him, change his general appearance and go about his life, anyone who could buy guns by the ton could do that shit. now, another feature I love about the game is that weapons malfunction, what I don't like however, is that you can't clean them. AK's especially should suffer from that, as the ammo they used had corrosives in the powder and primer compounds, and finally, I didn't like that every weapon was entirely uniform, an AK is AK is AK. If you spend enough time with your weapon, you WILL eventually make it your own, not every M-16A2 (AR-16 in game) would have the obvious custom furniture and the same specific optic.though I'd have enjoyed seeing at the least the need for repair and maintenance carry on to the other games.
Meh, The Jackal probably blew himself up or shot himself based on the ending you choose. I remember in one part of the game you hear the faction leaders discussing how the Jackal has cancer and only has three months to live. So that is what he might be referring to when he says "We're both terminal cases" along with your protagonist since he is also about to succumb to malaria near the end and medicine no longer has an effect.
In my opinion FC2 had a better atmosphere, africa felt hot, sweaty and extremely unforgiving, you felt like you were in truly dangerous place while FC3 you feel like it's more of a play ground. That said, FC3 has much better gameplay.
I actually liked FC1 the most and was really bummed when FC2 wasn't about what happened to the agent... =\... and FC2 was so long.. the missions felt repetitive and going through EVERY fucking guard post made me want to kill myself. oh wells... time for FC3
+Chris Saravia Don't forget how the realism takes a break when it comes to the fact that the player characters come from military background meaning they should know how to fix and maintain firearms. As well as some player characters hailing from areas of the world where the inhabitants are either immune or resistant to malaria.
That's my gripe with games like this. They are long as hell and in the end you die because the devs wanted that. You grind so they can force you to accept their shitty endings with their twisted morals.
the diamond ending ended in a suicide too. the person handing them over would kill themselves. so both the jackal and the player character would die with either choice. also its possible to get away from the friends without killing any of them. i still wonder why they turn their backs on the player...
The player is dying from Malaria. Jackal is impled to have terminal cancer (he talks about cancer a lot, plus there's a conversation you overhear at the beginning of the game speculating about the very same thing).
@@iim4xii129 I imagine having terminal cancer is a pretty agonising death. As for malaria - well, the symptoms are described fairly well in the MC's diary; it's not pretty, and no less agonizing. They're both dead men walking that have accomplished their mutual goal, and thus, have nothing else left to live for. A bullet to the head in that case is is much more preferrable to a goalless existence filled with misery.
@@TheCakeIsNotLie True, but if I was the "diamonds" guy, even in chronic pain and discomfort, I'd wait maybe until the end of the day to make sure that it unfolds. Or maybe that's just me...
3rd ending, I run off with the diamonds to my friends, and craft a rocket launcher to blow up the dynamite instead of the car battery. I choose life. Jackal: "Then I suggest that you take the shortcut." Me: "Are you threatening me?" 🤨
Both conclusions in FarCry2 feel disconnected from the game. Despite the game's high praise, it's not something I would ever recommend. The vast open map amplifies a monotonous loop of boarding a bus, driving to a location, eliminating simple AI, and repeating. A standout gameplay moment occurred only once during my playthrough of the campaign, involving a thrilling assassination. The didactic conclusions, propagating the simplistic idea that war and soldiers are inherently malevolent, not only conflict with the game's fundamental focus on shooting and explosions but also reflect the moral perspective of someone lacking a well-developed ethical framework. The abrupt dismissal of you by your buddies, without logical cause, adds to this narrative discord. A shooter game should not burden itself with unwarranted moral gravity, especially when the narrative coherence is notably lacking. FarCry1, despite its simple, over-the-top narrative, surpasses FarCry2. Not only is its storytelling more coherent, but, crucially, it avoids pretentiousness. Additionally, FarCry1 boasts superior gameplay. My speculation is that FarCry2 garnered considerable acclaim due to its release during a time when open-world shooters were a rarity, coupled with its groundbreaking graphics that left a lasting impression. Playing FarCry1 followed by FarCry2, devoid of any nostalgic bias for either, unveils a significant downgrade in the latter compared to the former.

Now most of the people think that jackal used a "flare gun" to detonate the dynamite on the cliff side to block the road but he didn't he most likely will use the IED aka "explosives "
Which he did and he wouldn't dare put a bullet into his own head
So the jackal wins anyway
And if he did use the flare gun
We would have seen flare light flying into the cliff starting a fire and then the dynamite will explode which he didn't again he used IED
Second the jackal history
Everybody thinks the jackal is " Jack Carver " which he isn't because of 3 things
1: the jackal character personality is different than Jack Carver is more of sarcastic and funny personality and likes to survive not the bad guy who sales guns a cause war
While the jackal is a fearsome character that has mysterious personality likes to profit from selling his weapons and he doesn't have a sympathetic nature for his victims
And he most likely will kill anyone
That stands on his way
2: the year of the conflict in Africa was 2008 when seeing the jackal for the first time and seeing him selling weapons while Jack Carver is year is unknown but judging by the weapons and technology that used in jack Carver time was very advanced than 2008 bio genetic and new equipment and even the weapons them self
So that at the time m16 is very cheap to sell the old copies one
3: both Jack Carver and the jackal have different biographies Jack Carver was retired from the special forces
While the jackal retired from the navy
Very big difference between the navy and the special forces
And that is the last thing

If he shot the flare on the floor inside the hut I guess it will cause burst of flames and will burn the hut to the ground but it will not cause an explosion since he didn't put too much gasoline inside the hut to make an explosion rather to make it burn with big flames but if he left the gasoline canister it will probably cause an explosion and ending up with big flames as you can see this video not the flames of course but the canister at 0:53so ...yeah I guess
That how it would have worked in real life
So...why not
Hope that explains and answer's your question bro
Majed Alqadi maybe you could be right about him not using the flare but from the way the mountain looked it does seem like the jackal could easily mask the visibility of the flare
@@dream_killer-cc3vr
I don't think so bro
Flare can be seen in day light
And there is no way you can't see flare shot in low angle or the speed of the flare round
Because simply you would have seen a bright flash and of course flare is slow travel payload and flare is not an explosive round it will cause few seconds flames and then the dynamite will explode which gives enough time to see the flare light bro
It's easy to know bro
But I respect your point of view
Hope it answers your question
Majed Alqadi yeah i start to think you were right but it does seem like the writers were trying to hint that he would use the flare to blow up the sticks of dynamite
Why does either the player or the Jackal need to shoot himself after giving the diamonds?
They were both physically sick. Also, symbolically they needed to end their presence in the country once and for all - the Jackal would be forever hounded by the country for weapons (reigniting the war), or someone would track the players history, causing affected people to rebel, fight, take over etc, causing paramilitaries to take action and a monumental shit-storm of further conflict in the future.
They are the cancer, the cells that cause the wars to keep restarting.

Alladeen Madafaker Stealth easn't really a popular thing in video games back in 2008. You had some silenced weapons but it isn't like FC3 and 4
I love FC2 for its location being realistically unstable (like many African conflicts in the past).

How is the jackal even a villain? He sacrifices himself to save refugees

The only bad thing in this game is the fact that your character is a mute, everything else was done perfectly.
I maxed up my player..but damn i chose the dynamite and i got killed. But can we throw a grenade inside the hut when the jackal closes the door?but i think he will not die though

It’s not that it was hard, it’s just that the deadzones were completely shitty and the acceleration/smoothing was done horribly for controllers.
Some guns were pretty inaccurate in this game especially the worn out ones
Aiming with a joystick will never be accurate
It was and not because we were noobs, but because it was programmed badly, many many times I had the AR's scope cursor RIGHT at the head of a standing enemy, I hit the trigger ONCE and it doesn't hit him, I quickly reposition the cursor on him, shoot again and it misses AGAIN, at many points I was like "fuck you my aiming is good, it's you who insist on making my shots miss"...and yes I had the accuracy upgrade purchased

I don't understand the shooting yourself thing... I think that was just a sour noted ending.
Shawn Youtt no, it was because of the fact that the main character had malaria and it was killing him, plua some other stuff which I cant explain
The Jackal would kill himself because he knows people are after him and his crimes

some notes. at the case of dynamite, there isn't any det cord...jackal played you. also, the jackal never shows any signs of illness and could literally just fucking stop what he's doing, and live out his days in exile.
You can see Jackal's vision blurring if you choose to blow up the explosives. It shows that he too was suffering from a deadly disease called Cancer.
mikethemaniac1 He was dying, that's why he decided to do those tapes for the reporter, he had nothing left to loose.

FC3 is by far better than FC2
In my opinion FC2 had a better atmosphere, africa felt hot, sweaty and extremely unforgiving, you felt like you were in truly dangerous place while FC3 you feel like it's more of a play ground. That said, FC3 has much better gameplay.
I actually liked FC1 the most and was really bummed when FC2 wasn't about what happened to the agent... =\... and FC2 was so long.. the missions felt repetitive and going through EVERY fucking guard post made me want to kill myself. oh wells... time for FC3
Chris Saravia so true lol
+Chris Saravia Don't forget how the realism takes a break when it comes to the fact that the player characters come from military background meaning they should know how to fix and maintain firearms. As well as some player characters hailing from areas of the world where the inhabitants are either immune or resistant to malaria.
I couldn't play this game because of the coloring. It drove me crazy.
That's my gripe with games like this. They are long as hell and in the end you die because the devs wanted that. You grind so they can force you to accept their shitty endings with their twisted morals.
