      @@Ashby_Farms_NC I sawsome comment somewhere they are more likely to propolis rough sawn inside of the hive and that should be healthy for them. I saw some dipping them in a mix of types of wax mostly paraffin but I wonder why paraffin when trying to keep optimal health of the hives?

  • @woodlandharvesthoneycompanyllc

    Good how-to video. I feel your pain cutting out all those boxes. I make my own also. It takes me even longer because I saw my lumber out on a sawmill after felling the logs. Then I cut them to length and put the frame rests in. I do dado the end pieces on the sides because I feel it makes them stronger. I also leave mine rough sawn. The bees seem to really like them and they propalis them up on the inside. I believe propalis helps bees fight diseases.

    Hay Ashby. Thank you very much for your videos. I have big plans with my bee keeping adventure. as well. I just moved from Florida to WNC. Absolutely love it here.. So i would like to use you as my mentor if you don't mind... But i would like to advice you. You can cut frame rest with a dado blade. Easy to set and faster than 1000 cuts and flipping board twice....
    I wish you good luck and looking foreword to your videos.

    • @Ashby_Farms_NC
      @Ashby_Farms_NC  11 місяців тому +1

      While you can cut with a Dado, I run a 3/4"x3/4" frame rest. This produces a ton of shavings and is painfully slow to remove that much material. That's why I use the 2 passes on a standard saw blade. Thanks for following along

    When you're a one man operation, there's no doubt about it, efficiency is key. Really nice job. I have the same problem with my table saw, arbor is far too short.

  • @joetripp123
    @joetripp123 11 місяців тому +1

    I appreciate the short to the point format. Sometimes you just want to watch a 10-15 minute video, not an hour. Seems like that 1" material would equal heavy equipment. Should last a very long time though.

  • @thebeekeepersworkshop
    @thebeekeepersworkshop 10 місяців тому +1

    You could use the dado to cut the frame rests that would be more time efficiant and neater cut.

    • @Ashby_Farms_NC
      @Ashby_Farms_NC  Рік тому

      This is actually a problem I had last year. Gotta make sure your cuts are square. Then just roll with it. I actually end up with about 10-15% slightly out of square. It makes for small air gaps between the boxes which allows the hives to “breathe”. It’s not a bad thing

Significantly cheaper than big box stores. However it isn’t kiln dried, so you have to allow time for it to dry (6mos). Hope this helps!
