Ashby Farms NC
United States
Приєднався 17 лип 2017
Established in 2017, Ashby Farms started as a small produce farm, focussing on German Johnson Tomatoes, Lettuce & Field Greens. In 2021, we transitioned to honeybees. Today we keep 600 honey bee hives in 16 apiaries in/around Burlington NC, with a focus on VSH genetics (Varroa Mite Resistance). The main focus of our channel is to show our screw ups, as well as our successes, to help you become a better beekeeper! Thanks for your support!

Looks like good old Illinois weather!!! I hope Nate got steak to eat that evening!
Ha enjoyed your video, I am wet like that every time. glad u had some help, going to check out the hive u talked about. Hope u have a Blessed week looking forward to your next one.
Thanks, you too!
Our accent isnt that bad 😂
Right???
Nice to have a Nate.
I was so thankful!
No one needs to know outside dimensions, they don't matter. What matters is the internal dimensions and how tight the frames are set within and how high they should sit.
Yep!
Great video I really like the look at the hive IQ gonna give it a try
You should!
Did I hear right, the equivalent of 6" of wood?! That will help anywhere!
Correct! I was shocked too. Good to see ya Steve!
thanks
You're welcome!
I'm happy to see me videos from you. Have you thought of doing a regular Q And A? They seem to be popular and will help you boost your subscribers. You have a great attitude and great perspective on beekeeping. Just some of my thoughts. Thanks again for the videos.
Call me to discuss 336.693.4392
I've got 10 Hive IQ I picked up last year at the BEE EXPO. I've got to say they are doing great. Bee's built up fast this year in them and seam to beard less than my wooden hives. I'm looking forward to seeing how they do this winter.
Keep me informed!!!
@Ashby_Farms_NC any update on top feeders?
Just my two cents. But the couch is facing the wrong way.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is incredibly clever! Thanks for sharing your method!
You are so welcome!
Very helpful video
Glad to hear that
Tractor supply JobSmart 1000lb dolly $179.99
Thanks for the info
And you have that nice couch there for a nap!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I wouldn’t touch that smelly old thing with a 10’ pole
That's a dove tail 🕊
Say what?
@@Ashby_Farms_NC it's a type of trailer lol 😆
mine are pretty calm when moving in the evening but get really angry on morning moves. Dont know why the difference but I have quit doing morning moves for that reason.
Lucky!
Couch ?! Lol
Right!!!????🤣🤣🤣🤣
For me to nap while he works!
Ha ha ha good idea !!
lol couch bees maybe
Ha Ashby sometimes my bees eat me up just because I am there I do not have to move them. They just pen my jeans to my legs and tear my hands up Just because I open there top. It is not fun indeed. Hope you get honey for all your effort. Hope u have a blessed week
I know the feeling!
That last shot was pretty awesome to watch. Some very busy bees down there. Great video, shows the not so fun part of beekeeping. Lol.
Thanks! I thought I was a cool shot to include. Def not the fun side of beekeeping
My sourwood is half way done, mimosas is still in full bloom. Nantahala area...
Yep it’s gonna make the crop dark this year
Good stuff, but how does a handsome guy, such as my self, purchase one of you boxes?
🤣🤣🤣 I haven’t made any for sale.
Have you ever done a video on how you set up your bear fence?
Yes. Last years Sourwood video
@@Ashby_Farms_NC Perfect. I’ll look it up and watch it. I hope you have a great crop this year.
On one occasion after being in my hives, travelling home....I stopped my Jeep, got out, and in middle of the road removed my trousers. Worst thing was my wife was with me, she hasn’t and will not forget!
🤣🤣🤣
Wear a belt around ur suitu gotta close the window of opportunity for stingersto get in where it hurts
🤣🤣🤣
The sourwood might be tough this year. This weather is crazy in NC this year.
For sure
I wear swimming trunks under my pants. No stings
Nice!
Who sells the dolly for moving the small pallets?
Don’t have a brand on it. I got it from a seed supply company
I watch a lot of bobs videos as well
Love his videos
thanks
No problem
Just leave the colonies there year round
I wish
I wax dipped all my new boxes following your video. Couldn't be happier.
Fantastic!!! Glad I could help!
That seems like so much work moving hives! It gives you some appreciation what commercial keepers go through each year chasing the honey flows. Me? I'm good with my 3 months of nectar flow here on the coast of NC.
Yes it does!
You are living the dream!! A nightmare lol. Cory was smart. I see some Mimosas in the background and clover. They will be happy to find the fresh nectar. We had a big Sourwood flow this year but only caught maybe 8 supers because I didn’t get my wet supers put back on. Didn’t expect a big flow here in Virginia. Great to see you again!
Well I hope you had a banner year! Glad to be back. Thanks for following along
@@Ashby_Farms_NC As dry as we have been I’m amazed how good the flows were. Yes to me I’m having a banner year 3rd year and 1500lbs so far with maybe 6 full boxes of sourwood to pull. I hope they keep you busy with the Sourwood!
Thanks for making this video. I have been using this product for 20 years. I did a presentation that included using Certan and Xentari. Sometimes, folks understand visually better. Thanks again buddy.
Thanks for sharing that info with me. I haven’t been beekeeping that long (lol) and always appreciate the advice of those more experienced than myself!!!
Heya, thanks for the info! Is it safe to for food(honey) and the bees though?
Yes
How's the sourwood honey coming along
Just dropped the first of a few videos
@@Ashby_Farms_NC nice I'll check it out
So this is harmless to bees and humans.
I’m trying Certan for the first time this year. I’ve seen trials with other types of BT, and they didn’t go too well. I’m going to give it a go anyhow since para moth( I used the cakes from Walmart) is getting very expensive in our great economy. Only issue that is worrying me about the BT is that it kills chewing insects. What that means is they need to start chewing to ingest and the die. So far, so good in the combs I treated (I only tried 15 or so). Two weeks and no chewing. I still have some para-dichlorobenzene cakes left, and I’ll use them as well. I don’t lose much comb, if any using them. Store about 150 frames on average every year. If this certan pans out, it’ll be a game changer for me. Keep us up to date Ashby and take care my friend!!
Good to know! I hate I missed you at the conference. We were only able to attend one day. I’ll definitely make a follow up video in a few weeks to see how the product worked.
Ha Glad u are back. I am confused are u using certan or B402 or is it the same, and where did you get it from. 1 more question how do you store your boxes and frames outside Have a Blessed week
It is the same product. I stacked my deeps crisscrossed eight boxes high.
how do you like to introduce virgin queens to queenless hives?
Great you are back!!!
We’ve been so busy. Finally had time to start making some content again
He's alive! Glad your back mate
We’ve been so busy! Finally had time to make content t again
How long does it last after spraying, before wax moths & larvae appear again?
Not an expert but it’s my understanding you only need one application. I could be wrong
Nice vid. Good info.
Glad it was helpful!
Where did you get the large container od B402
Bailey Bee Supply
I've been doing the same Ashby. Cheers
Hope you’re doing well! And your bees!
We miss you bro
Glad to be back!
Nice to watch, but most annoying music ever.
Thanks!
I have a question for you if you have time for it. A few years ago a fella sold me some 5 frame supers I think I have 3 or 4 of them stacked. Well my bees didn’t over winter and I just noticed it seems that a swarm has moved into them. After watching your video I’m wondering if I should get conventional 10 frame supers and transfer them or leave them alone? Also should I be removing some of the top boxes and one more thing should I install a queen excluder. I have no idea what I’m doing I felt that the guy sold me all this stuff not caring how much I knew since he was making the boxes and profits. He wasn’t very forthcoming in other words.
Also I live in Michigan so I was worried that only having 5 frames may not be enough concentration for them to produce enough heat to survive the winter ?
You need to take a “bee school” class and they will answer this question as it is in depth. There is always someone who will sell you something in the bee biz and not care what happens after you purchase. Find a mentor will help as well
