    Confirmed w Superset - HRV calculation differences/numerical value differences from what you would see in Apple health, Superset tries its best to interpret HRV data by calculating RMSSD HRV from raw samples rather than using HRV that you see in Apple Health which is SDNN, and filters out erroneous readings, which is why you see the Recovery matches other wearables like Whoop/Garmin better. It won’t have the same granularity of data as those devices because the AW doesn't take samples as often

    Hello Fitgearhunter,
    Great reviews and up to date as usual. BWT I've a question. Does it mean that I've to ditch my Forerunner 965. Will superset on AWU be able to provide daily suggestions workouts ? Combine sleep, wellness and training readiness to get the most out of my training as Garmin Watch does?
    I'm already in the Apple ecosystem except the AWU.
    Thank you!

    The difference in HRV values, if I understand Superset ad materials correctly, is that they use the beat-to-beat measurements to calculate rMSSD, while the Apple HRV score is based on SDNN. They are two different measurements, with rMSSD being the "gold" standard for tracking and measurement.

      @fitgearhunter I used Garmin, the Fenix line, for the past 10y. I recently bought a second hand Apple watch 8 because after an accident I didn't see the use to keep my resent Fenix 7x anymore. But what a disappointment it is on several points. The biggest one of course is battery life. Oh my ! After now having already 9 version of the Apple watch they still could not make it better then an 18h battery life 😑 The inner space of the watch body of a regular Apple watch is not smaller then a regular Garmin watch ! With Garmin you get 10 days battery with full GPS,BT, wifi ON and all that with always on display !! Yes even with an Amoled display (See the Garmin Epix) Even the newer watches from Amazfit and Huawei give 8-10d full functionality and always on Amoled display. What's different ? Why can't Apple get better than 18h ? :-(
      An other thing I likes on Garmin is the Body battery indication !
      Also Apple watch apparently can't detect by itself when I go to sleep and when I wake, nor can it detect nap time ! All things that Garmin can do already for years.

    What are your thoughts on how accurate the recovery scores are? Compared to how you feel and other devices data. I have been testing SuperSet vs Fenix 7 HRV data for 3 days/nights and the nightly rMSSD averages were within 2ms of each other. Unfortunately I sold my Fenix so couldn’t make a longer comparison. But my first feeling is that SS is more reliable than Athlytic which gives me lots of 100% recovered.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  3 місяці тому +1

      I think the Phoenix seven is always gonna win the battle because it is truly tracking HRV, so it is always going to be more in line with how your body is truly physiologically recovering. The Apple Watch only samples 15 to 20 minutes, at best, and even has erroneous Measurements within those smaller sample set, so it's never going to be able to be totally accurate. That being said, it can serve as an ongoing baseline, even if it repeats the same inaccuracies the baseline will still serve as something of value

    Great review! The thing that keeps me with whoop is the new strength trainer feature that measures your muscle strain instead of just heart rate. So now it is 11 strain instead of 4. Does superset or athlytic have anything like that to give a more accurate strain score on weightlifting workouts as well as cardio? Thanks.

    What about the accurancy? Using superset and Athlytic both parallel the last days, i have to decide which one i will keep, i can confirm that there are differences between the metrics, especially in recovery data and sleep data, propably different algorithmics and data managment.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  3 місяці тому

      Great question - I have found superset to be definitely more accurate w how it calculates HRV and recovery. If you note the top pinned comment I confirmed they track it analytically differently, and it makes better use of the limited data the AW collects for recovery - plus they have a new strength training side coming out in the next few weeks which should be really good.

      probably the key for the accuracy between them is the RMSSD vs SDNN in the superset settings. Another thing especially for the IOS under 17 version users is that superset doesn't load any new updates and of course no apple watch app.

    The superset or now “bevel” app has a better interface (seems more simple and polished). I am curious to hear if others are noticing significant differences in the recovery score between it and Athlytic. I have free version of both answers trying to decide which pro version to get. This morning I woke up with fairly poor night of sleep, bevel had my recovery as 71% and Athlytic at 21%. I feel like the 21% was more accurate or reflected how I felt. Just curious if there’s a specific reason why they would be so different coming from same AW ultra 1 source ??

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  22 дні тому

      1000% bevel. It is a much better approach to calculating the recovery because it uses a better version of the HRV

    I was told that there is no actually industry scale for HRV. So every company's HRV numbers are unique to them. It's kinda a unstandardized number. Seems like it could be just a real joke of the health and fitness industry., Seems like a great marketing thing to get people to buy stuff. Same with the sleep tracking that at least is mentioned as totally inaccurate baloney.
