In case anyone is still curious a year later: the reason you didn't see any radio signals for so long is because all radio signals come from enemy fleets. You captured the only two fleets active in the southern region at the very beginning of the game.
Man that's harsh. Imagine being in the town, and calling your people and being like "THE ENEMY IS HERE!!!!" and they just launch missiles AT YOUR TOWN. o.O
Glad to see I'm not the only one who gets in well over their head with a lone Lightning, still well done to pull it out of the fire. I have a lot of trouble transitioning into bigger ships unless I get lucky with some early Tarkhans so I'm keen to see how you handle that. Minor note about plotting Elint, Radar and missile ranges, the compass rather then the ruler makes like so much easier. Plop it in a spot where you think you want to park your observer, set the radius and it'll give you an exact range and you can fine tune as needed. I also like to use it to plot ranges for the SGs; once I've got location, bearing and speed I mark a 5/10hr radius around them so I know worst case scenario where they can be in those timeframes. Keep up the good work, cant wait for the next one.
Yes! The compass! I know all about it I just brain farted and used the ruler instead. Next video I use the compass, no worries :o If all else fails the plan is to get the yars to a hidden city and refit it over a very long period into a big boy, that's if I can't get any nice Tarkhan gifts. But if I am fighting head on, I am doing it wrong.
I play HF for since is was released, watched many videos helping me get better, I beat the game twice - but what I learn from your videos change my game completely ! and I love it - multiple strike groups - slow moving flag ship, all the little things I pick up from you - amazing ! great job ! I play again - and this time I almost don't use the time speed up... I used to use it all the time....
I didn't know that you can find the hidden cities by following roads. That'll be super helpful for my next playthrough. I've only been able to find them by spamming radar.
this man needs to hear from our lord and saviror "compasse"super tense and thrilling lets play seriesawesome to see you play with vanilla shipsI really struggle going past the mid gameso this is perfect for me
Love your stuff! I'm totally hooked on your meta. Keep it up -- I will demonstratively like and subscribe all forthcoming videos. Sincerely looking forward to what's coming next, I'm at the edge of my seat!
Don't forget you have a compass to mark the radius of something. It'll save you some time and possible heartache when trying to set a strategy. That last fight was clutch. Are you going to rescue the crew at Karkemish to improve your morale? What's going to be the deciding factor for when you move to brawlers? Is there anything your aiming for?
Don't worry, I use the compass extensively in my next video! As for switching to brawlers. My game plan is to get some soon, either by buying one or refitting the Yars. One of the reasons I took it was because it was a cheap chassis to build off. However I don't intend to lead with a brawler if I can avoid it. At least for as long as possible.
Just can't stop complementing your Highfleet playthrough. The best part is the Lighting choice, seems like people really underestimate them. I usually didn't even change 100mm. If you're fully focused 2 Lightnings can carry literally any fight in the game, excluding strike groups (I still managed to take out one after missile preparation). Second ship lets you use full maneuverability potential. Get used to constant blackout and you can take as many fights in a row as needed. The only thing is after a few hours of this, any hit taken feels super painful
Just saw your comments pop up and they really made my day! I'll give your other comment a longer reply but regards to the Lightning gameplay. Just wait until you meet The Audacity and The Screamer
You messed up on the shipwork, the elint dome was the big one, when you uninstall and reinstall something it is halved until the install is done... for some weird reason
I thought I had gone insane! What a weird bug. Sadly I played the next but assuming I did have the small dome. You will see what effect that had. Thanks for letting me know.
This series is hyping me for this game, I bought it when it cane out cause I knew it was worth it, but getting into the headspace for it is hard. I really appreciate watching a playthrough A too learn and B to just experience the game without the mental slog of tryna figure what im doin and how I am doin it wrong. I have played enough to have an experience but I didnt even know about the planes until this series so yknow... It went well ^+^ I think another game you should look at if you haven't yet is Duskers, aka the reason I bought this game on a whim, cause when I saw highfleet all I could think was this got Duskers vibes and duskers is the shit ^+^
Discovering planes was a huge game changer for me in Highfleet. Suddenly I had a way to reach our and disrupt my enemy and it really helped me rethink my strategy. I actually have Duskers and have played through a decent chunk of it. It is really cool and very tense.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, if you leave a city and there is fuel left you can claim that fuel in the future? Like when he has defeated a garrison and refueled his small fleet there has been fuel left behind. Wouldn't it be a good idea to come past with the flagship to pick up the remaining fuel at each location instead of having to refuel in the one spot for long periods of time? Also I could imagine you'd have some extra funds in the early game if this does indeed work.
This is indeed correct, however the flagship is so slow and requires so much fuel that the amounts left behind wouldn't be worth the flight time. However, you can right click on the fuel purchase gauge and it will sell any excess fuel you can't load into your ships, which is a good way to make some money and not waste any!
I just posted the second last video of the campaign and this comment is sitting in the middle of everyone commentating on the extreme plot drama at that point. It made me grin to see that the drama was high all the way back in episode 4!
Tks a lot for your guide. It's very useful! In this playthrough I understand you're using 2 itinial small fleets to cover fast as much ground as possible. I was wondering if taking cities and grounds like u do has an impact on the macro angle of the game from a strategic point of view. For example, does taking cities make the economy of the adversary (the AI) weaker in some ways or limit their production capacity?
Sadly it doesn't affect the enemy at all. The bonus to the player is huge though. Access to more goods (especially as ammo exists in everyship everywhere as soon as it is bought) and places to hide your support ships.
The Gladiator is a great starting ship. It's got good armour, big guns and is more than able to hold its own. It can take hits but too many and your repair times get high. I haven't flown it too much, but if one shows up to buy in this campaign and I have the cash I will probably grab it!
I've found there's a great deal with you can do with the Glad on the fly without need a full redesign. My most successful so far; I fired the missiles then removed the mounts for them, swapped the guns for 2x 130mm and 2x 37mm. That let me drop one of the generators on top and close the top armour. Now it fights at low altitude to protect its weak underside, chew out the engines and weaker under armour of most things it'll fight and the 37mm pull double duty as both anti-missile defence and once the the bottom armour is open they seem to chew up soft internals and start fires everywhere.
In case anyone is still curious a year later: the reason you didn't see any radio signals for so long is because all radio signals come from enemy fleets. You captured the only two fleets active in the southern region at the very beginning of the game.
thanks 😂

Welcome to Gerat I guess. I hadn't thought about that but you are right what a horrible outcome!
Wins a fight seconds before his fuel explodes - "This has been a very tense session"

It is a real game changer, just need to watch for how much fuel you spend searching. Spamming radar is very risky if you show up on enemy ELINT.

I am glad this is useful! I am playing through a hardmode campaign on the channel as well at the moment!
Love your stuff! I'm totally hooked on your meta. Keep it up -- I will demonstratively like and subscribe all forthcoming videos. Sincerely looking forward to what's coming next, I'm at the edge of my seat!
Thank you so much. No pressure to not mess up then!
@@Phrosphor NO PRESSURE AT ALL, NO!

I always mount flares on lightning ASAP to conserve fuel in fights. Great fights though.
Flares are super great and this is a great way to hugely increase the survivability of your ships.
got a small heart attack at minute 25:33. too tense!
ps. terrific playthrough!
Thank you! And yeah this game does tension SO well.
Doesn't the little envelope mark on the map show the bearing to the intercepted transmission?
Yes it does!

man, the drama, holy sh33t

holy jesus this whole video was a nail biter!
Just wait till you get to the episode titled "Sky Kings"

I was going to ask about the Gladiator? would you recommend it as ship to pilot for someone who gets lightings blown up like great balls of fire?
The Gladiator is a great starting ship. It's got good armour, big guns and is more than able to hold its own. It can take hits but too many and your repair times get high. I haven't flown it too much, but if one shows up to buy in this campaign and I have the cash I will probably grab it!
modified your gladiator, remove the missiles for armor. the 130mm is the best gun in term of firepower and fire rate. AP is op in this game.
I've found there's a great deal with you can do with the Glad on the fly without need a full redesign. My most successful so far; I fired the missiles then removed the mounts for them, swapped the guns for 2x 130mm and 2x 37mm. That let me drop one of the generators on top and close the top armour.

15:10 I mean, the fleets you too didn't check in, so probably nobody sending radio to them.
this game is hardcore
But very satisfying!
