I purchased the 2024 2RS Metallic Black Trax 4 weeks ago and love it! I’m a retired GM employee who has driven Corvettes, Caddy’s, Impalas, Blazers actually every GM vehicle. This is perfect for me taking my grandkids camping & running around town. I’ve put 1400 miles on it in 4 weeks. Love the 19” tires and the jazzy interior. Perfect for the price!
I just got a 2024 black activ. I feel the same way you do, I love it. I'm also a GM retiree, general motors did a great job on this vehicle just wish it was built in the states.
How's the motor feel when driving? I have a 4-cyl Tacoma with 159 hp and 180 lb-ft. The Tacoma has enough HP/Torque to get me around, but feels like a slouch. Keeps me out of trouble with the law though. The Trax with 137 Horsepower / 162 Pound-Fee seems like it might feel similar.
@@ChunkyMonkaayyy it's not a race car, I have no problem with the output of the engine. Gets around town good, Cruise's the interstate at 80mph no problem! Performance seems to be better than the numbers imply.
Chevrolet estimates the 0-60 will be around 8.6 seconds. Also, you definitely won't needs premium fuel. Its designed to run on regular unleaded and you won't see any performance increase using 91 or 93 octane. That's pretty much the way any modern turbo in an average vehicle is unless recommended by the manufacturer (usually for performance vehicles). But yeah, definitely a huge step up for the Trax. The market needs more affordable cars that are not a penalty box. Some people just need something to get to work and back or pick up the kids from school that doesn't cost 40-50 grand.
I can remember when 8.6 seconds for a 0-60 was rocket like. It still is fast enough for me, but it all depends on how it feels in normal driving. I rarely ever put the accelerator to the floor. If it’s a dog in normal driving that would be a dealbreaker for me.
I'm planning on getting one and will be putting premium. In this Texas heat, the car will be more likely to pull timing. A bit of extra octane helps. Plus the cost of premium over regular isn't that large. Timely oil changes and premium gas are cheap insurance to keep engines running smooth.
@@lf4_greg That's up to you of course, but it's not necessary and I doubt you'll tell the difference hot weather or not. I have a '21 Subaru Legacy XT with the 2.4 turbo (260 HP). Even that's designed to run on 87 octane and I've never noticed any sort of performance degradation running regular vs. premium. I live in the Central Valley of California and its a guaranteed 90 to 110 degrees every day from late May to late September.
The most important thing for these direct inject engines is to use tier 1 fuel. Helps keep the carbon buildup off the valve, Shell gas is a good choice, all there octane ratings is tier 1 fuel.
As a 17 year old, I honestly don’t really know what everything you’re saying means but I’m excited to be able to pay for this myself because it isn’t super expensive. Never thought I would be able to pay for such a nice car this early in life but here I am. And fountain blue is sooooo pretty I’m obsessed
Picked up a 2024 2rs about a month ago and it’s still like waking up on Christmas Day every time i see it. It’s extremely pleasing to the eye, inside is super modern but nothing feels cheap. They definitely took some time with this redesign. I wish we had more than 137 hp but this thing can get up there quick! Tons of bang for your buck, highly recommended
The button on the shifter allows you to manually shift, kind of like paddle shifters on a steering wheel. When you put the shift lever in low, this allows you to push the button for each gear you want to shift into." A total of six gears." You can up shift, down shift with this button. Basically a manual mode. The owner manual says to use it when climbing steep hills, hung up in snow, with traction control, ESC turned off.
Excellent review. This seems like a lot of car for the $$$. If this powertrain proves reliable, this could be a sales hit and a BIG step up from 1st gen Trax. +100 bonus points for a 6 speed auto instead of cvt!
That's the one caveat. IF IT PROVES RELIABLE. Chances are, it won't. The prior generation has a poor reliability track record and this new Trax is still engineered by GM Korea with a tiny turbo engine like the last one. For around $25k that this one costs, I think the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Mazda CX-30, or Honda HRV are all a better value. No doubt any of these 3 will prove more reliable over time.
I for one don’t want to spend $40-$50,000 for a vehicle. At 67 years old I rarely drive long trips anymore and my needs are much less than they were. What I object to are dealerships charging $2,000+ over MSRP for an “affordable” vehicle.
This package does not come with all 2RS TRAX Models. We recently purchased a 2RS. The wireless charging pad, and the sunroof are part of what chevy calls a Sun roof package and it is another $895.
I have the 2024 Trax Activ, black on black with tints.. it looks really good. I was also very surprised at how it gets up to speed, it’s not a sports car by any means but it WILL move.. you can spin the tires very easily.. the torque puts me back into my seat. I’ve got about 2500 miles on mine and I love it
I gotta say, I'm actually kind of impressed. I *HAD* a 2013 Kia Optima SX. I said had, someone turned left in front of me, now Geico is totalling out my car. Surprisingly, they're going to give me almost $16k for the car. I just may be getting one of these. Being 44 years old I've had my fast cars, big trucks. Now I just want something comfy.
You have the LS LT 1RS 2RS Active but I ordered a package that's somehow not listed the 1LS it comes fully loaded except for sunroof, flat bottom steering wheel, adaptive cruise control and push button start, priced at $22,495
Hey WIll! I was wondering how long before you would get one of these to review. It's getting a lot of positive press. I think this is a Homerun for Chevy. It's going to sell very well. I really like that "Fountain Blue" color. It reminds me of the Rapid Blue but just a bit more calm.
I have a 24 Trax 1RS. Wanted the 2RS, but wasn't any in-stock. For 23K, not a bad ride. I like the 1RS 18" wheels the best. For the most part, 👍👍. Could use some padding on armrests. Miss the push button start on my old Trax.
I just bought one in metallic black. It’s beautiful, but the hood is a little heavy and the steering radius is a little bit wide the cruise control at least in mine adjust itself to the traffic it’s a really nice vehicle
Excellent review on the Trax. Like the RS trim, wish they had 17 or 18 in tires like on the 1 RS,not a big fan of the 19" tires.look forward to the other trim levels.
Me too, I’d even take the activ’s wheel option.. I just don’t like the design of the 2rs wheels, I’ve never been a fan of wheels that have a directional pattern to them because they don’t match ascetically when looking side to side
Always enjoy you extremely detailed reviews. Great looking car. I am afraid the engine is not going to hold up. Although I have a Evinrude that also has 3 cylinders has been running since 1976 with just basic maintenance.
I'm not a big Chevy fan, but I believe they knocked it out of the park with this vehicle, especially for the price when new car prices are ridiculously high these days. Yes, it's got a small engine, but the whole point of this vehicle to get you from point A to B in a stylish affordable package with good tech. Great for teens, college students, or adults that just want a decent SUV without the crazy high price.
The new Trax are only offered with fwd.. Chevy’s logic was if you want awd you can get the slightly higher priced trailblazer.. they wanted to keep the Trax as affordable as possible so they axed the awd option for it.
Fountain blue is growing on me. That said, for 2025 the new blue is Marina Blue which is also really sharp. I'm hoping to trade-in a '23 Ford for one of these as I want both, a lower payment and more comfortable vehicle. This also looks much sharper, too.
It states it has the HD rear vision camera. I believe that’s the rear view mirror and you have to pull that latch to turn the camera on. Could be wrong at this price point though
Is there any advantage to getting the Activ over the 2RS? I looked at both of them and thought the 2RS had the "sportier" or sleeker look to it. I wasn't able to get inside or drive them.
To add to what Carl said, the activ also has a yellow/lime color interior trim in place of the red trim the 2rs offers. Personally, the only thing I like about the activ over the 2rs is the wheel option.. they look better imo than the ones featured here on the 2rs
Maybe it's just me but I think they're cool looking. Its' like a lifted hatchback or something. Very cool and sporty looking, especially in an age where all of the "SUVs" look the same, like eggs with wheels. That tiny motor is scary though, I think 200hp/200ft.lb. would be more gooder.
That blue is too soft for me. It reminds me of a blue Honda would go with. I'm more into the weird yellow they have though, that's a pretty wild color.
Why are you recommending premium fuel??! Are you trying to screw with these peoples vehicles and their reliability? How odd..this can really screw up someone’s vehicle over a short amount of time.
I'm really not a fan of the color interior accents they don't really match the color of the car. Also it really is disappointing that you can't get the fountain blue color on the Active
No rear seat armrest is huge! It is a huge deal. I had a car without one and it was a complaint from everybody that came in my car. No drink holder, no resting arm. Chevy dropped the ball
I bought a dark gray leather rear console armrest for $80 works great in the back of my 2024 black chevy Trax activ. When not in use I put it in the very back.
Definitely will be unreliable Garbage Motors and 3 cyl turbo they can't make 4cyl turbos reliable on top of that a wet belt for a timing belt. What could go wrong with a rubber belt running through oil degrading over time getting into the oil pickup.

Anything for a buck wit these dealerships
Not sure why they chose to use directional wheels. Makes it look kinda lame. Other than that it looks good.
Wholeheartedly agree, out of all the trim levels they put the worst looking ones on the most sought after trim..
