I sincerely hope it sells well and other manufacturers bring out similar models for the average buyer who just needs a decent, affordable, nice looking car to drive to work in.
My 24-year-old daughter and I looked at the one the local dealer had in the showroom. Very impressed by the appearance, interior room, and value. She ordered one in this orange color and will get it in a couple weeks. Much better than the HRV. It looks like a baby Blazer at half the price. Great review Joe, as always.
As a Chevy Sonic owner, I really can't wait to get the Trax. I test drove one last night, and while the turbo lag is noticeable, it gets up and goes. For the price, the Trax is so worth it 🔥
The Chevy Trax is a good entry level crossover to have as long as you are realistic with your expectations. With that being said, GM need to speed up the steering ratio to match the vehicle's chassis, and reprogram the transmission to not always focus of fuel efficiency. The transmission programming is hindering the Trax performance. The only vehicles the Trax are able to outrun is the Kicks and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 AWD (maybe). The Renegade, Soul, and Venue will outrun it.
I like the price $21k what more can we ask for. Hope auto makers would consider 80% to 90% of hard working Americans. Lets go back to the 70s 80s prices, cheap affordable automobiles. Anything that gets us from point A to point B is more than enough. Great video btw 👍
I have never been a fan of Chevy however it FINALLY seems like Chevy is getting it. This Trax as much as it pains me to say it is just beautiful. That interior is something else

I just bought the 1RS a few days ago and I have to say, it's a great car and a good step for Chevy in general. If you can grab it for around 25-27k total it is a worthwhile car. It's a stylish car and for being an SUV, it isn't clunky or "mom-car" esque. Handles and steers nicely, smooth breaks, and good acceleration. It's primary use should be for students or those who have a little more money for a daily driver. If you are a purist, you should note the car isn't made with US parts but it is what it is. It's a solid 9/10.
I used to be a purist. But now I don't care. Principals are expensive. And I'm getting too old to bother. I just need a good car I can afford and this looks like it might be one.
@Josueezyy , he said, 25-27k total. Once you had all the dealer fees and taxes, tags, and title, 25-27K doesn't sound like much. I just paid fora 2RS with sunroof package for about 32500. That about $7K over MSRP, but there's about $4K to the dealer, and all the other fees. They tried to get $10k out of me a total of like 39, almost $40K. I walked away and got a call back for the 32,500 on the same car
Drove the Trax last week and was impressed with it great vehicle for around town. I ordered the2 RS in the red has everything but the sunroof no big deal. Left a deposit so when it comes in it’s mine. Told probably mid July no big my lease expires in November so plenty of time. Can’t wait will be less cheaper then the lease I’m in now. Can’t wait!
I’ve been doing a LOT of research on a new suv, and I’m down to this one and a Mazda C-5 and a Kia Sportage, but really digging this new Trax ! Love the wheels, the whole look actually, great gas mileage , and good reviews , and decent warranty ! Even loving the orange color , which I never thought I’d say for a car color ! I don’t need a sunroof, they’re usually leaking after a few years . ! Just hope the Chevrolet has improved from when I had a brand new 1994 Chevy Beretta , it caused me a lot of trouble ! So that’s my hold back .
I've been doing tons of research too, but my favorites are similar but different to yours...CX50 and Tucson. I really like this new Trax, too. I'd take one in Active trim.
I first test drove the Trax in LS trim. Since then I've driven Subaru Outback, VW Taos and last weekend I tried the Mazda CX-50. If you are looking at base level with these models- I think the Trax makes them look either overpriced or lackluster. If I don't end up just going with a smaller car and stick with the CUV segment it'll be the Trax. It's almost impossible to beat the value and features if you keep it under 25K.

Building an order on the Chevy Trax online, for an upgrade those fake vents can be replaced with real air shutters. I think this could be a replacement for my Cruze but I wish they offered the Trax with a manual transmission.
@@lenacheney I test drove one at my local dealership today and performance was "average" never really felt "peppy" to me but didn't feel dangerously slow either. At least engine was smooth and not loud or super buzzy - Unremarkable overall. Wife loves the styling and interior, has good standard features and we're getting ours for $22k which is the best part. Overall these are great deals.
Wow - my Chevy salesperson told me about the new Trax. I had an older Blazer, then Trailblazer, Trax, Equinox, on my 2nd Equinox and have been itching to get the new Trailblazer but he told me I might like the new Trax better - availability of vehicles has really sucked! I have also been spoiled with the LTZ/Premier versions of my first Trax and both Equinox models - including the moonroof, upgraded stereo and power everything...can't wait to try out the new Trax! Thank you for the "tour" - much appreciated!
Apostle Joe, nice nice Chevrolet Trax looks good & I wish there was a High Country trim but I love the fake vents. Without it, the sweet metal would look verz boring and I feel like this is good.
I like it Joe! I'm a former 18 year certified real estate Appraiser and now I am a home or property inspector so I have to keep an SUV of some kind. I wouldn't mind getting this one in the 2rs rally sport like you reviewed for work. I wished they would have uped the any to at least 190 HP because of the new larger size and weight but with that probably would have required a better suspension for handling but overall I like it. The price is very reasonable in today's economy with vehicle prices being at beyond record highs and some costing the same or more than a actual home which shows just how out of order our economy is and has been. Great review and it's definitely on my radar for a nice work SUV that I can enjoy because my vehicles have always been my office and my go to place as there are times I will sit parked in my vehicle for over an hour whether I'm working on a report or watching your reviews in between properties and some times closing my eyes and meditating/power napping during my days. I wished it had electric seats at least for the drivers side in the RS. I believe that to be a mistake that GM missed the target all together with. My best to you and Lori. Kashton The Dive Watcher
Great job Joe! Chevy on the right path here. Making me look forward to the first drive of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD! Heard they'll be a Zr2 trim by the way 😏
Do a test drive with 5 people in the car. See if it still runs good and not over working the baby engine thats in it. That's what we all are wondering.
YES!! Wider and bigger tires because I was really strugglin to keep traction with my 137 Horsepower screamer! Because everyone wants to buy 250$ tires for their entry level economy box!
Some cars , suvs and pickups are going back today with the light brake bolts! Some cars, suv, and trucks got some LED lights but a lot of suvs, pickup ,and cars got bolts I wander why?
Nice to see the platform as a FWD only to eliminate the AWD driveshaft tunnel and rear differential spacing. This allows for a spare tire & flat floor and lowers the center of gravity without having voids of space when choosing FWD on an AWD designed platform. Even in snow, AWD is not needed with FWD and good all season tires on plowed and maintained roads. Good review !
Got my Chevy Trax Activ Trim last weekend in grey, sunroof with the additional driver safety package, for about 27k and its my first SUV, its the perfect size since im not a tall person and neither is my family, really enjoying everything about it, except the no arm rest in the middle in the back and no vents or power outlet in the back like the trailblazer, but imo looks way better then the blazer. took on huge mountains in California and cleared the speed test on the i5. so overall really happy about the car, took time to really find the right vehicle but i cant be more pleased about my purchase. 👍
The 2024 Trax is such a beast for the price holy crap. I thought the 3 cyl engine would struggle but it can haul a lot of ass. Doesn't even break a sweat at 135 km/h
Lol not the 64 which you were jealous of...great video Joe...2 questions 1: how loud is the air conditioner in the 2024 trax rs 2: I saw another video of the 2024 trax rs and the backseat had the middle arm rest.
We were on the market for a RAV4 but every dealer in our area has new ones starting at 45k and up. After checking out the Trax at the dealer, we ended up picking up two for the price of what would be one RAV4.
Exactly ! That’s why I’m seriously thinking of buying one of these , Toyota, Honda, and Nissans are so pricey it’s ridiculous, and I currently own a Nissan , but they have went up in price so much, not willing to pay $600 or $700 a month on car payments
Same! Was totally dedicated to getting a Rav 4 but my 2013 Malibu is still holding strong and if the trax can atleast be as durable you really can’t beat this!
I test drove both and ended up with a Trax Activ. The HR-V had a few problems. The seats were stiff and the ride was harsh. I think they were going sporty, but I get groceries, drive to work, and want to take some trips. So, comfort is far more important than sporty. The 4 cylinder on the HR-V may be just a hair more refined. On the highway, the Trax felt a tad more refined. The Trax really separates itself by the features for the price. In terms of the power seat, that comes on the Activ trim, which I have. The power driver seat is great. I find the Trax a great-looking vehicle. They have some great colors. I went with Marina Blue, which is beautiful.
Joe! How does the Trax drive and accelerate compare to the SX turbo Kia seltos? I have a SX right now but it feels like the throttle stutters sometimes when accelerating, usually when going uphill. Wondering how the Chevy Trax and Buick Envista or Encore GX compares
Maybe there's something that I'm missing, but what sense does it make to make such a SMALL TURBO CHARGED engine with 137HP!!! For that power result, they might as well go NA and cut out the complexity. I know that the TURBO and ECU allow for torque manipulation, but I would rather a larger 2.0 4 cylinder that barely breaking a sweat for that power
I agree people would rather have the 2.04 cylinder & Awd option. Feeling a little disappointed . When you live in Md you get all 4 seasons so we need more options not less. This would’ve been a perfect retirement vehicle for my Dad & I wanted to downsize so bad but I guess I’ll be keeping my Equinox much longer than I wanted too. But my family would never buy a Suv without Awd that’s just who we are. 🤷🏽♀️
@@nichelegibson1188I don't know what's with this AWD obsession. I'm in Buffalo and always had FWD and it worked fine. Want AWD, upgrade to the trailblazer. This is an economy car.
I agree...I think instead of putting smaller engines in these vehicles they need to just keep the 4 cylinders in them and improve them. You are sacrificing so much horsepower. There's a major push in the car industry now to make these vehicles more fuel efficient and get better gas milage. That being said...I think a majority of us would rather have a bigger engine and more horsepower than better gas milage.
I've been looking forward to the review and on throttle action with the Trax. Curious to see how it drives and what your impressions are. I prefer this over the Honda HR-V and I love the Cayenne Orange paint. Thanks to you Joe and Steven for the video!👍👍
Depends on how long someone wants to keep a car - I'd have no fear keeping this to 100k miles - But if I wanted something for 150k miles or more than I'd trust Toyota much more, Honda not so much since I've read that their quality has slipped in recent years.
Just got a 2025 Activ yesterday. Great car. I traded in my 2016 SS black Camaro with 455 HP and six speed, but it had 115k miles. I honestly thought when I left the lot I might shed a tear, but for the value, gas savings, and looks no regrets. The black with the black wheels and badges looks great. Plus, no more Mustangs and Dodge Scats, and ricers, wanting to race. Car actually reminded me of my black SS. Even the interior brings some over from the Camaro. Great purchase.
There’s 2 models : 1RS which is on trim level above a only a few features and has key only . The 2RS is the top model equivalent, it’s push button start . Trims as follows on new Trax : LS > 1RS >LT > 2RS = Active ( equal top models , just different looks ) . Hope that makes sense
Good looking car at a great price. Would have liked to have seen the larger and more powerful 1.3 liter turbo offered on the RS 2 like GM does on the Buick Envista, even if compromises the fuel economy somewhat. Thanks for the informative and entertaining review. 😊
❤ Thanks for a great look at the new Trax. Improved styling styling, Longer wheelbase will mean a great ride. Will you have further reviews on the other trim levels?? Lori excellent camera work on this @ all other reviews as well Thanks ❤❤
A very compelling value. I think GM will do well in this entry segment. So few vehicles under 25k, and this represents an excellent compromise all around. It takes a lot more engineering skill to make a decent entry level car under 25k than to slap a giant V8 engine into a big heavy chassis and charge 75k. Every thing you add costs money and weight. Seems like the Corolla Cross is a slightly better vehicle, but this is competitive thank goodness.
Nice SUV, but I personally don't trust the longevity of a three cylinder engine. On the other hand, this new Trax looks light years better than the old stubby model it replaced.
I drove this for an hour at my local dealer as they had one for Demo, Exterior and interior nice, powertrain not so nice the turbo lag is bad worse than my Kia Seltos SX and Sportage SX. The vehicle needs more power to carry the weight it is way to heavy. The suspension feels nice and confident but again its lacking the power. Especially now there is no AWD anymore they should have given an option for it though. I have to drive a few more vehicles in its class to decide if I will rule the Trax out.
Agreed...I can see putting 3 cylinder engines in small cars but definitely not SUVs. As much as I like the design I would never go any lower than a 4 cylinder.
if gm ever reads these. I just bought my 24 Trax 2RS, it should be here in 2 weeks, big deal right? Oh my yes, I am a huge Ford guy! I haven't bought a new Chevy since 94. I wanted to buy a Maverick XLT but between price increase and dealers mark ups I couldn't find one with FWD for less than $34k. I watched a bunch of these reviews, went and test drove it and made the order that day. I'm getting 2RS with Convenience and Sun Roof packages. No dealer mark ups! So, I'm paying less than $30k, with tax/tags and getting a great value. Ford has given up the "Entry Level" and Chevy is going to outdo Kia and Hyundai because this is nicer than the Soul, Seltos and Venue. Definitely more exciting than the base Corolla Cross or HRV. I hated GM for years and this is what brings me back?
He didn't mention the shark antenna. We ordered a new Trask 2rs last October 2023 no shark antenna is available as an option. We're now in March 2024 haven't heard from Rydell Chevrolet. So is that an after market shark antenna?
Traded in my 2016 black Camaro 6 speed SS couple of week ago for a black Activ trim because the styling reminded me of my Camaro up front, and it looks good. I miss the power I had, but with the gas savings, clutch I was about to replace, I got a brand new vehicle for less than my 455hp sports car in the long run. I do miss the power, but the Trax is peppy enough. The thing that concerned me is the turbo, not being a normally aspirated engine, and the 3 cylinders, and the wet timing belt. But for 2500 through my credit union I got an 8 year, 120k bumper to bumper warranty, past what GM carries, so no worries. Great vehicle, and probably the best financial decision I've made in my life. Plus, I no longer have Mustangs, ricers, etc, trying to get me to race. 90 percent of the time I pass, but sometimes I can't help it. Lol. Now I fly under the radar. It's awesome. Chevy knocked it out of the park. I hope other auto makers follow suit.
I love your reviews .. but I suggest you do bit more on testing Adaptive cruise with lane assisit kind of features .. these are he ones that save life ... [ Piano black kills but not really , But Adaptive cruise and Lane assist does :) ]
Hey Joe, great review! Can you tell if there is much difference in driving the 17", vs 18" vs 19" wheels. I heard the 19" ride rougher but your drive on curvey roads with 19" wheels looked pretty nice. We like leather (or letherett) interior and the 2RS is only one that offers it...but have to take the 19" wheels.
Less gadgets, less problems, so be happy if it has less shit to go wrong. Many of those luxuries, you can live without. Seat heaters is an example. Once the cabin is warmed up, you don't really need them anyway.
This is slightly lifted modern day version of the Cavalier wagon varient. Like Regal Tour X this is a raised wagon. I've seen some reviews call it a hatchback which is true of a CUV but Trax is a back to basics beauty. I'm a wagon guy and would drive this. GM getting compared to Honda is amazing. It's the quality Detroit car manufacturer
Ya this is a lifted FWD hatchback. Which I have no problem with, I like it. State Farm calls it a "Sport Wagon". I wouldn't call it sporty but it's been getting me back and forth to work just fine and that's all I need.
I really love the new design...however I'm just not a big fan of putting tiny 3 cylinder engines in SUVs. If it had a 4 cylinder engine and a bit more horsepower I would be sold on it. Also not having any cupholders in the back I find kind of odd. Nice review and keep up the good work!
People should realize this engine is not made to last more than 140k miles. You need to do hard acceleration on American freeways to avoid getting rear-ended, 1 litre engine is not meant for such things in long run, this is also the reason why the main block in made of cast iron over aluminum.
Scheduled maintenance on the timing belt is 150k (and second one at 300k of course..😀) I don't think I've needed to press the gas pedal more than half way on mine in 5 weeks since I brought it home, driving 60 mile round trips to work and back everyday. This engine has adequate torque in the 2,000 to 3,000 RPM range, right where it seems to live most of the time when you're not driving like a knucklehead..
This vehicle does have a manual shift mode. Put the shifter down to low (L) there's a +/- button on the shifter knob that manually shift gears. Push this button with your thumb.
I sincerely hope it sells well and other manufacturers bring out similar models for the average buyer who just needs a decent, affordable, nice looking car to drive to work in.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.
Exactly. I think it will sell well.
its easier for car manufacturers to make money making expensive cars
Agreed!
Looks and seems to be a nice vehicle. My oly concern is the durability of this 3 cylinder, turbo, aluminum block engine?

I got an hrv because it will ultimately be more reliable but I do like the way this looks.
The HRV reliability is why I purchased one. Chevy can’t compare.
@@billyalexander7302 HRV most likely will last longer, but Honda had fuck ups with some of their engines. Don't be blind.

That is so wonderful to hear!
The price is really good. It seems it is a nice option for city driving.
I’m sold. Buying in at the end of this month! Thank u for the awesome review
How's it treating you?
Apostle Joe, nice nice Chevrolet Trax looks good & I wish there was a High Country trim but I love the fake vents. Without it, the sweet metal would look verz boring and I feel like this is good.
What a car! What a road!
My RS has already been ordered 😎
I have the (1) RS and I LOVE IT!!!
This will be my 1st vehicle to get one Joe.

Really wanted a Maverick when it was revealed but this is a serious contender. Just hope it doesn't have the production problems the Maverick has
Maverick was at the top if my list last year too, but went with a cx5. This looks nice, but I wonder how reliable that 3 banger is.
Great review Joe! A much better looking Trax. Finally brought it up to modern standards. Thanks for bringing it to us.
Great job Joe! Chevy on the right path here. Making me look forward to the first drive of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD! Heard they'll be a Zr2 trim by the way 😏
@@ericB3444 I would
My setup would be fountain blue. Joe Lori and Steven great job!😊 my only concern would be colored seatbelts for an extra 5 HP.
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
Do a test drive with 5 people in the car. See if it still runs good and not over working the baby engine thats in it. That's what we all are wondering.
If you're driving 5 people around on the regular, I don't think you'd be considering this car!
with 5 people you'd be lucky to do zero to 60 in half a minute, downhill.
How would you stack this against the Buick envista?
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING 🎯💯
Welcome to the Carolinas! We really enjoy your reviews!
YES!! Wider and bigger tires because I was really strugglin to keep traction with my 137 Horsepower screamer! Because everyone wants to buy 250$ tires for their entry level economy box!
ALL cars are over-tired, these days.
So do you recommend buy the Trax?
The 2024 Trax is such a beast for the price holy crap. I thought the 3 cyl engine would struggle but it can haul a lot of ass. Doesn't even break a sweat at 135 km/h
Lol not the 64 which you were jealous of...great video Joe...2 questions 1: how loud is the air conditioner in the 2024 trax rs 2: I saw another video of the 2024 trax rs and the backseat had the middle arm rest.
Number 1 for values for money.
The fuel economy is great too.
You are so very right!
Is there a way to move adjustable head seat forward or backwards , other than up and down on the 1rs
i don't know if i watch these reviews for the bells and whistles the vehicle has or what you're gonna suggest will fit in compartment spaces!
Thanks for letting me share it all with you.
We were on the market for a RAV4 but every dealer in our area has new ones starting at 45k and up. After checking out the Trax at the dealer, we ended up picking up two for the price of what would be one RAV4.
Great idea
If it wasn't turbo or belt driven reliability might not be as much of a concern.
I love it,so much so I ordered one and trading my 2016 spark in on ot
Looks nice, but the lack of power is disappointing. Great review Joe.
Have you test driven to determine this? Or were you looking to be impressed by a hp number on paper?
HP might sound low, but it does have 162 lb-ft of TORQUE, which is more than a 2.0L 4 Cylinder Mazda 3!
The shift "paddles" are actually on the side of the shift knob 😃 I had mine for weeks before I noticed lol
@@davidroehr1672 1.2 liter three and only 32 mpg on the highway? Doesn't sound good to me.
@boggy7665 completely agree.
I've been looking forward to the review and on throttle action with the Trax. Curious to see how it drives and what your impressions are. I prefer this over the Honda HR-V and I love the Cayenne Orange paint. Thanks to you Joe and Steven for the video!👍👍
Great video Joe!! Keep grinding out there!!
I will admit... it LOOKS very good. But which do you trust more?
A 3-cylinder turbo made by GM or a 4-cylinder made by Honda?
Depends on how long someone wants to keep a car - I'd have no fear keeping this to 100k miles - But if I wanted something for 150k miles or more than I'd trust Toyota much more, Honda not so much since I've read that their quality has slipped in recent years.
@@Stressless2023 Agree, but Toyota wasn't an option in Joe's hypothetical question. To Joe's question here, it's Honda.
Kudos to Chevrolet for offering an affordable vehicle.
Just got a Chevy Trax Activ trim and love it
How's the engine though? I'm considering this but it scares me
Just got a 2025 Activ yesterday.
Really impressed with how GMC is allowing Chevy to recieve Really good features and interior now adays
Does the Trax RS have push button start as 1 review I saw (maybe it wasn’t an RS) required a key start ignition which is so antiquated? Thanks Joe.
@@jasonstroud01 Yes sir, thank you.
24k is a pretty decent price for this vehicle.
Excellent value for money,my zonk is the body cladding , I think it is all around better than the Hrv . Great review thanks for sharing.
Old school price and horsepower. Not a bad thing. Why do we all need so much? We are all spoiled..
Best and most informative car review I've ever seen
your units of measurement are insane. subscribed.
Thanks Joey for being so supportive!
Good looking car at a great price. Would have liked to have seen the larger and more powerful 1.3 liter turbo offered on the RS 2 like GM does on the Buick Envista, even if compromises the fuel economy somewhat. Thanks for the informative and entertaining review. 😊
@@Jpmpmpm is* ,* the* would* ,* too* .* put these in there and people will take your comment seriously. :)
1.3? What nah put at least a 2.0
GM offers the 1.3 in the Buick Encore GX. The Envista only gets the 1.2, just like this Trax.
For people who want to buy American, it looks like a very good deal.
Thanks for sharing your feelings on this one.
❤
Thanks for a great look at the new Trax.
Thanks for sharing your great thoughts on this one.
Raiti's im back!!😂😂😂 love it
Great to have you back Angel!
Just like the Maverick, Trax is going to be a game changer. GM can't keep up with the demand.
I hope other auto makers follow suit.
hope that they offer a hybrid engine for a 2024 year car? would be very sad if not.
With all the changes and the low price point it looks like Chevy has a winner with the new Trax.
If it proves reliable, this will be a huge win for Chevy
A 3 cylinder turbo engine like that it will for sure break sooner then later
Not to worry. It's a Chevy so it won't be reliable.
Made in Korea. I'm sure reliably will be better than average.
@@mr.foxwiz1653 Chevys can be very reliable

I wish they offered another color of accent then yellow for the Active trim. Nice to finally see a test drive. Does the backseat have cup holders?
Unfortunately there is no cupholders in the back or an armrest which is crazy. I've never seen a vehicle yet that didn't have cupholders in the back
@@davidroehr1672 Thanks for the response, it is pretty crazy I'm sure my teens love having sippy cups again so they don't spill. Lol
Joe, the zonks are the old fashion old school Thomas Edison turn signals not led and the exposed rear wiper that is another zonk.
Realistically, I need the comp to the CX-30. Is AWD worth no seat heaters, sun roof, steering wheel heater, and more space?
Less gadgets, less problems, so be happy if it has less shit to go wrong. Many of those luxuries, you can live without. Seat heaters is an example. Once the cabin is warmed up, you don't really need them anyway.
My daughter just bought that same orange one this evening.
she still like it?
She loves it@@JayTeeRC
I’m ordering a yellow 2RS! Looks fun to drive!
Those opin yellow is shaaaaarp. I was torn but I’m getting this cayenne orange.
I just ordered this exact vehicle. I test drove the 1rs and 2rs. The 2rs is perfect and so is the price.
Happy with the color? Loving the orange
4100 pounds. 135HP.
Wow. I think a 9 second 0-60 seems pretty unlikely. More like 11.
Wow - between the Trax and the Prius - they take the co-crown in the "Most Improved" category.
I think you are right on that one,
The prius was a MAJOR improvement over the previous design.
This vehicle does have a manual shift mode.
Put the shifter down to low (L) there's a +/- button on the shifter knob that manually shift gears.
Push this button with your thumb.
You are correct!
While the power and MPG figures really aren't amazing, the size, space, interior quality, and PRICE on this new Trax is really awesome.
