    Going to be moving in a few weeks and this is the inspiration I need to do a new build for the new apartment. Excited to see the final product and drainage solution

    DIY cages makes a horizontal 2x2x4 front opening cage. That’s not a bad choice if you raise it up to eye level. I’m actually building two of those together.

      putting two of those together would give you a 4' x 2' x 4' so that accomplished the goal!

      What space do you have available? Building your own cage is awesome because you aren’t limited to the dimensions that are easy to manufacture and ship!

    Hey Bill- hope you’re doing well! I’d love to attempt a very large open air cage- near the ceiling and maybe 12-15’ long. Any tips for that style of keeping, or things to watch out for? Seems like it used to be more popular than it currently is…

    Exo terra Large X Tall is a great sized cage as well. Also Tamura Designs has some pretty sick custom cages.

    If using this info to set up my cage, what level do you put your food cups?
    Or how do you recommend feeding if not food cups? Thanks.

    • @ChameleonAcademy
      @ChameleonAcademy  Рік тому +1

      Put your feeder cups up at the level of your perching branches where they will spend their time

    out of interest, if i turned a zoomed xl on its side, and put it on the top of a unit so its as high as the roof would that work?

    • @ChameleonAcademy
      @ChameleonAcademy  6 місяців тому

      Depending on the species. It would work, but 24” tall is a little confining for a veiled chameleon. That would be an acceptable approach for a carpet chameleon.

      @@ChameleonAcademy thanks, i was looking at getting a panther as my local reptile shop breeds them and i trust them, i've had to buy a new rack unit to fit the cage in so have both options right now, i do plan to do the two together long term. but can't afford the extra enclosure yet

    You said the 2x2x4 has more cubic feet. But if it’s a bare floor setup that entire bottom space shouldn’t count😂

    • @ChameleonAcademy
      @ChameleonAcademy  2 роки тому +1

      Of course it does! How else would you calculate the internal volume?

    • @matthewsosa6270
      @matthewsosa6270 2 роки тому

      So chameleons use that bottom section of the enclosure on bare floor setups?

    • @ChameleonAcademy
      @ChameleonAcademy  2 роки тому +1

      @@matthewsosa6270 it depends on how you set up the cage. But you will have to remove the bottom 6” from every cage you calculate. So you are pretty much back where you started as far as relative cage volume.
