Why are these comments acting like this Omni is constantly jumping around lol. The only “incomplete” story is the resurrection of ras al gul which is a forgettable story to begin with. The rest of the stories in here are either self contained one shots or small 5 issue arcs
Totally agreed, I think this is perfect mapping except for the Resurrection thing. To follow the long story threads, you need it mapped like this, if you'd stuck in the stuff from the other writers it would have made it super choppy.
@@xposhboyx yeah I’m confused why on earth people would want a line of omnibus’ that simultaneously collect Dini, Morrison and everything in between. That would be way more or a slog to read. You’d be going from an issue of heart of hush straight into a random issue of RIP right after. That’d be annoying
I have the old printing of this omni. I think it would have been better if they had left the resurrection of Ras al Ghul out instead of just including part of it. Same with the Grant Morrison omnis. Or just put the whole thing in. I agree about heart of hush, it's the best hush story. Dini is a great writer, I wish he had written 'tec for longer or the main title
I love this book, it's also the main reason I ignored the Hush omni LOL. One day I'll get a deluxe hardcover for that however. Paul Dini is truly amazing.
This omnibus is perfectly mapped, except for the Resurrection thing. Otherwise, they were right to leave out what they did. The only thing weird about this is that a lot of times you feel like Dini is struggling to reconcile what he's trying to do with what Grant Morrison's doing. I'd love to say you should read this completely separately from Morrison's run. But, to understand some of the things that are impacting events in this book, reading Morrison really helps. But what you don't want to do is juggle back and forth between Morrison and Dini. The style and tone is so completely different.
Yeah I'm with others a bit confused seeing this reprinted, I only picked up my copy last year (I think after a reccomendation from Omar), and the price has only gone down since then due to a plethora of available copies. Maybe just more stock on this side of the pond? Great book, though, glad to see more chances for people to get it. Thanks for the recommendation!
Weird to see a reprint of this since I kept seeing it in stock here in Europe. And especially since we have the Hush Saga Omni right now. But Paul Dini is my favourite Batman writer, so I'm not going to complain 😅
I have a different opinion, I actually I think they did a great job making this nearly perfectly coherent. The only thing that's iffy is the Resurrection stuff. Otherwise, perfect mapping, to me.
@@projektvyking7521 hmm... well I've read this whole entire era multiple times, and yes this is only one person's opinion, but that would not make good reading. And I think DC editors know that very well which is why (I believe) they're never going to do that. First of all the triangle years were set up intentionally so that you would go from one issue to the next and follow a through-line story. Where is this era was written exactly in the opposite manner, with each writer pretty much doing their own entire thing, but with the other writers having to deal with whatever Grant Morrison wanted to do, Grant was in the lead car and everyone else had to follow along as best they could. Then in just in terms of tone and storytelling styles and what each author was trying to do, the Grant Morrison stuff is best read all together, all at once. Not broken up with the other stuff that was interspersed with his issues. Same with the Dini stuff, they mapped it this way for a reason, because to try to follow the threads of the long story is hard enough, without it being broken up with a lot of extraneous stories written by other people. If it were Marvel, I could see them doing some kind of "companion" books, to round up the other stuff from this era. But, since it's DC, they'll probably just leave that stuff on the cutting room floor, or do some scattershot collections. DC is not trying to put every single thing into an Omnibus, that format is reserved for "the good stuff " when it comes to DC.
Great one. It's a pity that that the whole omni does not follow the tone of the first 250 pages with self-contained detective stories that are smartly connected, which is what Batman is really about as far as I am concerned. The incomplete resurrection of Ra's al Ghul is a joke and I find the Hush plot line as rather predictable and average in comparison with the first stories that really convey a detective-driven Batman that had been missing in comics for a long time (and continues to be missed nowadays).

I do want this material collected in a bigger format BUT I don't like creator omnibus that jumps around. I prefer them collect the material chronologically.
Agreed, this era of Batman is a mess. You need Hush, this one and the 3 Morrison omnis and even that leaves a ton of stories out, like Tony Daniel's run, the Black Mirror, Paul Cornells Batman and Robin and more. It'd why I never upgraded my old trades.
Beautiful book but not for me. I like omnis that have one big long running story this seems like more of a collection of anything written by Dini. Which is cool! Just not for me

Same. I just bought this from in stock trades here in the US a couple months ago. I’m confused how this needed a reprint
aahh I wanted the page numbers...
Terrific stories; a more complete and coherent collection of this era is much needed

Hey Omar are we going to have a venomverse omnibus sometime soon
Yup 😎

Is there an overall arc to this omni, or is more of a grab bag/anthology?
Fourth d'oh
Why does this have a new printing? The first one never went OOP?
Probably out of print at the Distributor level.
Anybody know Omar's favorite Artist?
He loves Marc Silvestri.

Marc Silvestri

This Omni doesn’t really jump around tho. Outside of “resurrection” all the stories in this book are self contained and in chronological order
