It's crazy that I every time I watch your videos you're playing my favorite courses. That place is easily my favorite course. Thanks for the recommendations too; Disccraft should sponsor you lol
As a 45 year old player that doesn't have a strong arm and just started playing about 5 months ago, I'm absolutely loving my Latitude 64 Opto Sapphire disc. At a 10 speed I can run it up to 300-350 without overthrowing. I would suggest it to any beginner looking for an easy to throw distance driver. **Plus they're easy to find in stores or online.
I recently got an Axiom Insanity and that thing is sooooo good. 10 5 -2 +2. Flights very straight with a bit of fade at the end. Very comfortable and easy to throw backhand and forehand. Beauty
When I first started I had a Z heat as well as an assortment of other discs. The heat was the first disc I got to turn over and really taught me a lot about shot shaping. I still use it to this day for flip up shots since my arm strength isn't the craziest.
DX Wraith until its too understable then straight to Pro Wraith. Hit 400’ on a left turning tunnel shot 2 years in. Champion Wraith in the wind. Innova Wraith for life.
Valkyrie in pro plastic and the sidewinder. Great understable discs. One you've got your form down and good snap, you find a nice s curve. Plus pro plastic beats in a lot quicker than the more premium plastics. So you'll get to see multiple stages of wear.
@@marks9444 yes the Valkyrie is a 9 speed driver. But if you can't throw 10-12 speed drivers, it's perfect. It's a good disc to shape shots especially once it's worn in and you've improved your form. Get nice hyzer flex shots.
I agree. My first 2 drivers when I was a beginner were the Valkyrie and a Destroyer. 🤣 Needless to say, I preferred the Valkyrie. I still bag it and I love it for hyzer flips.
The Valkyrie is a great disc. I’d also recommend the beast at 10 speed. The beast is great for stronger beginners and intermediate players. Although my first driver was a wraith, the valk and beast are both used more in my bag. I got my first ace with a champion beast. Another great disc for beginners with slower arm speed and just starting out is the latitude 64 diamond. It’s a super forgiving 8 speed with plenty of glide. Once you get better it becomes a great recovery disc. You can give it a light toss from out of the brush and it will get a full flight still.
So funny you put the hades on this list, I was at a pro shop and saw one with a sick color and sick foil and want to fill my bag with some Paul Mcbeth discs Iso I got the hades. Excited to throw it and figure out how it flies.
I stopped playing for a few years. When I got back to it I needed to go back to slower disc's. But my wraith star and pro are always in my bag and definitely preferred.
Disc golf buddies and I cut our teeth on Innova champ plastic in early 00's, we had no idea what we were doing but more experienced dude we played with preached Beast -> Valk -> Orc -> Wraith and now we're all rich and married to supermodels who love to caddy for us 🕺
The first DD I had luck with was the Innova Mystere in Star. Bought it on a whim, liked the name.😆 Some reviewers absolutely hate it. But it works for me. Got it in Champ plastic. Still works.
i prefer the DGA Tempest over the Hades. i've found the hades is more wind sensitive and has a narrower sweet spot between flip & fade; while the Tempest is more forgiving.
I'd consider myself a novice and most of my local courses are par 54-56 and the only 2 aces I have have been with destroyers. It's good to understand stability and why stable discs like the destroyer can be useful even when you cant turn it over as well as the Sockibomb. That said, I have found that the Innova Mamba is really good for beginners to understand how stability effects their throws and can give an beginner a bit more distance on those wide open shots.
Definitely agree. The Destroyer can be a useful disc even for those of us without the arm speed to utilize it to its fullest potential. I have a max weight Star mamba that is more stable than the numbers would suggest. It flat bombs though. I could definitely see it being a good mold to carry several weights and plastics in for noodle arms.
Innova PRO Turn!!! Been playing for a little over a year and have struggled with distance drivers, then I found the turn and it “turned” my idea on distance drivers all around
My game improved the most when I gave up throwing 12+ speed for distance and focused on fairway drivers. I find the shot shapes much easier to control which leads to having easy approaches. Courses in my are having 280-350 ft of control is much more important than bombing 400+.
I’m very new to disc golf but I have long distance because I’m a baseball player (rotational power). I picked up a star destroyer and am really loving it.
😂 I’m a beginner who did exactly what you said not to do I literally looked up best distance drivers and went and bought the champion destroyer but I actually really liked it.
@@davidmontgomery1442 kinda hard to generalize beginners having bad form, beginners shouldn’t be throwing a driver past speed 10, with the exception of the mamba
I bagged Avenger SS and Hades for awhile and they were great. I still bag a hades for max distance hyzer flips. My current go to discs are raiders. I have a couple in fuzion raiders that are flying a tad more understable than others but still fights left and they're just bombing like crazy. Also supper good for hyzer flip forehands that don't flip over.
im int to advanced (MA1) and i bag basically four hades. the first was the first discraft disc i bought new. i have a thrasher that is new to the bag, and i have two swirly blend paul mcbeth hades. the first one has an about 420ft ace and was a flippy gliding monster before. my brother got me the two swirly blend hades and they are much more stable and workable for me now that my arm speed is getting there. highly recommend for everyone. the thrasher which is essentially the same disc will be my go to roller and maybe the first one until i get used to the thrasher.
@@PerplexEnigma that was always my perception as well. But I’ve had Mambas and Wraiths recently that were more overstable in Star than Champion. But I think that’s the result of the Champion versions being more beat in.
Good video! I wouldn't recommend a CD3 for beginners since Discmania isn't selling them right now and they may be OOP for awhile from the look of things. They aren't the easiest to find and they will only get worse
Good point Ty, but I am hoping they will be back in stock eventually. Everyone is taking some time recovering from last year, but hopefully we'll see the originals line back on shelves soon!
I love the hades. I have 2. One is a 159g and one is 172g and both are awesome. For a beginner lighter weight really helps. The rest of the discos I have all fly the same because I suck! My longest is 230ft

I would angle your camera a little to the right. Not to the left cause you always walk that way before the disc has even landed. Anyway, love it man! Keep it up
Im on my 2nd season of playing more, and i like more overstable disc If i dont throw downhill. I currently bag 3 Zeus (one that is as overstable as Force then bit less stable and one that is nearly as understable as stock run hades).
Been playing for 8 years and for 6 of them I only really used overstable wraith. Recently bagged a hades and couldn't agree more. At 8 years I get my most distance from that thing. I feel like KJ with the hyzer flips. Great disc in general
The best 10speed driver hands down is the ESP AvengerSS. Easy distance and you get any shot out of it with some practice. Ive seen nothing even touch it
Love Destroyers got 4 of em. But my go to disc when I want max distance is my Shryke. I could probably throw my Avenger SS farther if I throw it right but I don't seem to have much control with it. Most versatile disc in my bag is the Titanium Nuke. Love that -3 3.
Awesome recommendations. I would like to add the the Archer from Discraft is another good driver for beginners. It's my roller disc but I've seen beginners bomb them like Nukes. I love the Wraith but my favorite driver is the Flash. It's a shame that they are out of print now. I still bag a Z line Flash though. The Beast is another disc that I threw early on and it helped me learn how to control distance.
My first ever disc was a dx teerex. However I've noticed all these videos say beginners will see it fade out then come back right on understable discs I never had that problem when I started so does that mean I was never a beginner if I never had the beginner flights?????
