Putt BETTER after this Video | Disc Golf Basics

- I putted (?) 100 times to see how many I´d get in the basket. Then I had Tomas Ekström teach me, a beginner, how to properly putt. Then I tried 100 putts once more to see if there was a difference. Hope you´ll enjoy and putt better after watching ❤ /Jonathan

So is this guy the new marketing guy, and he's just learning disc golf? Because if he is, THIS IS AMAZING.
Haha I started reading this and was like "oh here we go". But nice twist at the end of your comment. Thank you and that´s exactly what´s going on here, haha. :) /Jonathan
Yeah it’s actually pretty damn helpful to watch a guy learn
Love the vibes in this comment section
@@Joshleslie871 I´m glad its helpful :) /Jonathan
Excatly. Much more helpful to see someone actually overcome some issues that i have aswell, than just watch pro guys do their thing. Very well explained tips and tricks. Hope this series wont stop and we will see more of his progress!!!
"Stroke the board" & "Use the a$$" - Very helpful and easy to remember!
Don't forget the safe word when you're out on the course!
I'm new to the sport, and these videos from Tomas, showing proper techniques are easy to understand and have been extremely helpful.
Welcome to the best sport ever 😁
I am NOT new but these videos still seem helpful! I haven't actually been able to get out yet this year, too lazy to walk to the park and I also don't like to play by myself!
Am Tip: The different putters are gonna have mostly the same flights within 30 feet, so pick your favorite putter based on how it feels in your hand. Also once you pick, try to only practice only with that mold, it will help your consistency. Love these videos by the way, keep up the great work
Hey Mark. Thank you for the tip.
@christopher allan 8 is just too much if you are just a casual player. If you got those free then but you dont need that many, like 3 or 5 is enough. But if money isnt a problem for you, then go on.
This^^^^^^
Made me go from a terrible putter to an average putter INSTANTLY! Find a putter you like and stay with it!!
I get so excited when I see these uploaded. Thank you Jonathan, Tomas and Lat64.
I´m glad you like it :) /Jonathan
Me too 😁
Loving this beginner series. Even people that think they know it all can learn a thing or two, and it's extremely helpful for someone just starting out to get the basics
Thank you. Glad you like it. 😀 /Jonathan
When you sensed that the "Putting Paradox" words had popped up behind you at 0:13. Perfect
These videos are fantastic. UA-cam is going to be sad that I don't need to watch all the other tutorial videos they're recommending now, because I really only need this series!
😅😅 that's great /Jonathan
This has helped out a ton! It’s super easy to understand, especially the “push the disc” part, that was a better explanation rather than throwing or tossing it. I use the Luna disc and I’m hitting 90% of my 35ft putts. Thank you!
I absolutely love this guy! Keep up these videos. I have been watching them all and absolutely enjoy the commentary and skills being taught.
The comedic timing in this is just great. Informative and entertaining!
After seeing this, I went to the course, stroked the board, hit 92% of c1 puts and beat my old pb by 5 shots... wow.
I will try it this afternoon!!
One of the best putting videos I've ever watched.
Thanks so much! This video is so underrated, it’s one of the most key topics that needs a lot of focus for beginners and pros.
I have been watching you for over a year. And I keep coming back to the older videos to remind myself of the basics. Or when my putting is just terrible as of late. Still got me laughing. Cheers
Dagger!! Because I have struggled with leaving it just short hitting the rim, and now I can keep my style but that extra glide just floats it in! Love it =)
This video helped me so much. The imaginary line and focusing on 1 chain. I saw a huge difference in my put. Thanks!
That´s great! /Jonathan
"I have the board, and I'm stroking it." They knew.
But I do it this way
Yeah, you have to stop that
Haha
😂
This video cracked me up, but seriously very good stuff here, the stroke the board tip is gold!
I lol'd at that part
"Oh, I have problems." :D
I have just begun playing and I like to see these videos from the perspective that another new player has.
It's different from other videos and more relatable for someone like me.
Glad you like them and find it helpful :). Is there any other topic you´d like to see? /Jonathan
@@Latitude64 If you could make a video that explains why I can't throw a driver much further than a putter, and how to change this, that would be good, but I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.
I'll have a think :)
I just started disc golf and I’m finding that some discs just work better for different people. I think that not getting caught up in what’s recommended and instead throwing what feels good will help beginners like us get better.
I'm just a beginner and watching this video has been most helpful. I can't wait to get out and put this instruction into practice.
I love how new you are to disc golf because it reminds me that I am still new to the game and it’s funny when I see you making similar mistakes that I made in the beginning
He's not new lol. Just roleplaying
@@WakeNBakeDK He says he's new in a response above
I'm mostly using a Luna for putting and I love it. It has so much grip that it never bounces away and also stays in when it finds the chains. I also feel comfortable using it in rain because of the grippy plastic.
One thing I like to imagine when putting is that the motion sort of is like sliding a pizza into the oven, that worked for my girlfriend.
Thanks!
Great info. I have only been playing for a couple months and just discovered your videos in the last two weeks. Since discovering you videos I have played 4 rounds and have improved quite a bit. My game went from averaging about +15 down to +10 after watching a few of your videos. What a great sport. I must say that I think I may have a disc golf problem. Hello, my name is Frank, and I am a disc golfaholic. Thanks for the help and I look forward to learning more.
Thats awesome!!
These videos have been so helpful. Best tutorial videos out here… and I’ve been looking. Ha! Great work guys
Last friday morning i watched the latest Lat64 video with Tomas, then went playing on one of our local courses.. guess who was playing? Tomas :D.
Damn, that's awesome.
These are great videos! The explanation, the comedy, work really well together. Even myself an experienced player found this useful and look forward to more of these videos
Thank you, Chris. Glad you like it :)
I am a huge fan of a Classic Soft Judge for putting. And for up shots they don't skip or roll away much at all.
I like to remind myself to shake hands with the basket. Really helps me to follow through and reach out. Thanks for sharing. Great to see your improvements. I'm sure it is helping a lot of us improve our disc game.
That´s a great way of thinking about it. Ima try that. Thank you :) /Jonathan
Wow, who knew that watching disc golf tip videos at 1am could actually be helpful? I've gotta try these tips out in the yard when I wake up.
Yesterday was my first time ever playing disc golf, me and the dude I played with are now making it a weekly thing so thanks for the advice, he is also teaching me as well, I finished yesterday +6 on 18 holes 💪
Dave feldberg is a great teacher of mechanics btw
I have watched how tos from all current pros and have learned 4xs the amount from Thomas in these. Thank you so very much!
That´s awesome!
"I do this thing, yeah, but you have to stop that" Funny. Some good insight!
My favorite putter is definitely the Atom by MVP
Had my first ever ace today with my favorite pure soft skull print putter!!!! I was sooo stoked I’ve been playing about six months now and it felt so freaking awesome!! Good luck Jonathan and stick with it bro for real! Pic and witness signature as proof on disc if proof is needed 😂 🤘🏼🤘🏼
That´s awesome!! Congratulations 😀🤘
Love watching this guy's videos. I'm new to Disc Golf and he's helped me a lot!!! Keep up the great work!!!
Glad you like them, Ryan :)
Ever since I discovered the sport, everyone I’ve met has been so willing to help me learn and grow my game. I’m still no good, but I’m having fun and gradually getting better.
I am pretty new to disk golf also. I find when it comes to putting, I just don't over think it and toss it at the basket. Seems to work pretty well.
Everything else, I just try to keep it out of the woods. I did watch your videos on throwing straight and that helped tons! Distance is what I have the most trouble with now.
Some people just get it right from the start, some have to struggle to find their form. Good luck with the distance! / Johannes
Wow! Just the part explaining your grip & where you should point your body helped me instantly! Thank you 😊
As a beginning disc golfer, this video has helped tremendously with the mechanics of putting, and dialing in averages. Putting is the weakest link in my game, and this has helped a ton! Great content!
That´s great! /Jonathan
I'm liking these videos. Glad you've been able to get Tomas to help out so much. Also, I love the sense of humor. And yes, putting is a mind...game... ;-)
Thank you James :). Glad you like them. /Jonathan
Just getting into disc-golf and these videos are amazing to let me know what to focus on. You are a good team
Glad you like the videos =). Glad you´ve found the sport. Have a great day! /Jonathan
Pure for any kind of putt lol love that flutter flight it'll give you. Thomas your awesome!!
I had a friend give me a great piece of mindset advice for putting a long time ago. The basket is your enemy. So 2 take-aways. (1) Throw hard enough to leave a bruise. You aren't trying to be nice to your enemy. (2) Don't be angry when your off-center putts spit out. That's to be expected. Your enemy isn't trying to be nice to you.
This helped me a ton. I switched from soft-arming my putts at the basket to driving my disc into the chains, and I also stopped getting worked up over chain-outs. It also made putts feel like winning over an opponent instead of just surviving the environment.
The Luna is my favorite not only for putting but it also flies super straight for drives and midrange shots
My favorite putter is the innova aviar, super forgiving and works well for me in all conditions, great video!
These videos are gold! Aviars all the way, although I want to try a Luna soon
Aviars kinda suck to be honest. I’m glad I moved away from them
The kc aviar3 is one of my favorite discs. Also love a voodoo or a wizard.
Loving this playlist! I'm definitely recommending this to my friends
My second date with a new guy was disc golf. He's great, me not so much. But I've got his extra discs to practice with and I'll watch a bunch of these videos and practice!
Pure. Bestest putter. Perfect grip depth and glides straight for days.
I'm not sure if it's easier for some people to spin putt vs. push putt, but for the life of me, I could not get any form of spin putting to be accurate while I was learning.
Push putting is certainly more tricky to learn the body timing for, and takes more energy (especially for me being 5'6" on a good day,) but if a beginner struggles a lot with Spin putting accuracy and this video doesn't help, I would recommend checking out a different video that focuses on the Push putt, or even the Straddle putt.
my favourite putter is Pure zero soft, the grip and control of the disc is perfect and it makes the realase solid and correct in my opinion.
You guys are great. Every video IV arch my game gets better thanks guys
Glad you like them 😀👍
@00:47 This was the most awkward transition I have ever seen...and I loved it.
😂👍
I've used a judge as my putter for while and love it
Good God, I needed this video. Easy ass putt cost me par 30 minutes ago. Thanks!
That´s awesome!! Glad you liked the video 🤘😀 /Jonathan
K3 Reko. Got a K1 Reko for drive on shorter holes. The k3 plastic for putting feels amazing.
Funny moments were hilarious 😂 great video
Thank you :) /Jonathan
Banger-GT, jawbreaker plastic I LOVE THE THUMB GROVE
My brother bought me a Lat64 Diamond and its my favorite disc. Plus you guys are putting out great content as well, thanks you for your work now excuse me while I shop for more!
That´s very nice of your brother. And thank you /Jonathan
Best instructional vids in disc golf right now
Durple Haze I really like this guy too. Has helped me a lot. Would love to see more content.
Berg is prbably my best putter atm. Though i really enjoy your River and Fuse. Amazing discs
I really enjoy this guys videos. Both he and Tomas seem like genuinely nice guys and I have learned a lot of tips from them. Would be cool to actually meet them.
Fairly new to D.G. so have enjoyed watching Thomas's training you. He is a great teacher and you are a great student. Now to transform my skill. 🤭
My favorite putter is the GateWay Eraser Wizard, it feels great in the hand and is super grippy
Stomach against the pin at 2:40 is amazing.
Im quite new to Disc Golf so these videos are super helpful.
Im glad :) /Jonathan
@@Latitude64 A question if you do not mind. What distance was those putts made at?
@@abfhgurye Edge of circle one. Maybe a little bit closer :)
@@Latitude64 so 9-10 meters? Yikes. Not sure I'd be able to hit 35 of 100 from that distance.
That board thing really helped me out, now i make like 80% of my 7m putts
Pa3 is what I use. Very stable with just the smallest amount of fade. I use a fan grip with a push putt.
Mercy. Mostly because it does not fade that much when dropping it in. And has decent glide when needed.
I put mercy soft b/c it grips the chains better and I get far less spit outs than other harder putters I feel. 😉
My fav disc!
This is the best putting video I have seen on youtube
That´s really nice of you, Viktor. 🤘😀
Helped a lot. My struggles has been putting. In golf and disc golf
(Shows Tomas his putts)
Tomas: (SIGH) Alright...
Luna. This is after trying out the wizard, aviar (and classic aviar), warden and Luna. And been liking the Rhino for approach. Luna feels right but the wizard and warden also work great. I was at the store and the Luna felt so good in the hand. Softer plastic blend... it’s weird like if you mixed felt and plastic together (maybe like a casino table but much smoother) but it still was sturdy without much bend. I love the lack of bead it has, didn’t like the aviar classic at all. The warden, Luna and wizard all have similar shapes and are beadless. But this warden is a hard plastic. It definitely has more durability but the Luna has the grip. They both fly straight as an arrow.
Super helpful! 4 out 4 right out of the gate!!
Pure. Dead straight for both putting and throwing.
My favorite putter is a Zero Hard Dagger! I do have massive hands so it basically being a deep dish pizza does not bother me and now the glide they have!!
“The board is more for so if you have proble-“ “Oh I have problems” 😂
I putt with the Lat64 Dagger!
I like it because it has a really wide rim that fills tha hand. Mainly i use a push/spin put, it suits me well and help me get consistent extra distance outside C1. I do swich to pure for longer puts and if its windy, I believe the Pure cuts the wind better and does not lift in a headwind putt.
Great videos! They are realy fun and I learn from them. Keep it up!
The next video is about this, haha. Choosing a putter. We choose different ones. Sort of. It´ll make sense if you watch the video 😂. /Jonathan
These edits are so good. Always makes me laugh :D
Well, now I wanna get a L64 putter, so... This guy is doing his job!
😂😂 /Jonathan
I’ve been putting with an X-line P1X. I have a Classic Blend Judge coming in the mail that I’m looking forward to trying out. I’m pretty new, as well, so looking forward to putting into practice Tomas’ instructions.
Let me know how it goes 😀 /Jonathan
There was some good tips in this video. Thank you.
These videos are fantastic, thanks for such useful and entertaining content.
Glad you enjoy them 😀 have a great day! /Jonathan
These tips will help anyone who's struggling with putting! Mercy is my top choice. Keeping different plastics in more or less stable shape in the Bag.
best disc golf vids on UA-cam
Honestly my favourite all time putting putter will always be Discmania P1x :)
my absolute favorite putter is the Innova Aviar. its good for strait forward putts and getting around trees.
for putters, I like the Warden. I'm warming up to the Luna (trying to, it was expensive). But since I began, I actually had more luck putting with a Shark(!), and later, a Roc. Just a much wider variety of distances I can glide it in from, but the fade cancels out the extra glide should I miss.
This was really helpful. The idea of "stroking the board" sounds weird but absolutely works.
Haha yeah I agree but it totally made sense :) /Jonathan
My putting is too inconsistent so I'm excited to try this
When I first started I imitated Paul McBeths' style and I tried about 20 different putters before adopting the Spike. I did very well putting but found an old shoulder injury was causing serious problems with practice and forward motion became very painful. So I switched to a sideways stance spin putt and although the spike still felt great in hand it wasn't holding in the air very well for 20- 35 foot shots and I too often fell short hitting the rim of the basket. I have since switched to the Pure to see if the glide will do better. I like how the Mercy flies but it seems a little too tall for my throw. I have tried many other putters from other brands but the Zero medium (what I used at first) and Zero soft (what I use now) are perfect putter plastics.
I see. Does the side stance take away the shoulder pain completely?
@@Latitude64 Not 100% yet but it is getting easier the more I develop the throw. I've been trying to do a short straight draw similar to the pull of a drive but slower to sort of aim the throw then use a "soft" wrist snap/roll out to power the shot and reduce movement of the shoulder. I still need to let the shoulders roll/rotate a bit for smooth follow through and I have found that the waist needs to stay locked and not rotate.
I picked up a wizard. It is super stable and strait. I like it a lot.
I used to love the Pure, now I use it for throwing since I've really fallen in love with the Link that Latitude 64 manufactures for Discmania
Is the link as shallow of a putter as the pure? I got really small hands and im putting with the pure rn because it has a super low profile so its easy to get a good spin on it
@@Oeugh I never tried Pure but I have pretty small hands and I love link!
@@Oeugh to me it feels like the Pure with a small bead, it is just a tad bit more stable though which fixed a lot of my issues missing right. I still prefer the Pure for throwing and for really long attempts at the basket or tough straight putts through small gaps but usually I prefer putting with the link. Like I said, it is a bit more overstable, not a lot more overstable, just enough for it to make a difference for me
6 9 try Maiden from Westside Discs - low profile as Pure, but more stability. Perfect disc.
Jakub Kříž the maiden has a fade of 1 and turn of 0 tho, so it will fade. I like putters that go dead straight so i think the maidens not for me
Now I have more reasons to go buy discs and try disc golf because of videos like this
Very comprehensive! Thanks a lot
Firm Warlocks. Gateway makes such great plastic for putters.
Cheers from Norway. Great videos and very good for learning how to disc golf!
