    Great video I'm a certified electrician myself and I'm so sick of seeing videos of people who don't have a clue what they are doing making a tutorial that is honestly just dangerous I'm glad someone is showing how to do it correctly. I don't know if you are a certified electrician as well or not but at least you are doing things correctly and that is much more than can be said for most people who post videos like this.
    If I had the time I'd make my own videos but glad to see some that are done correctly. Anyways keep up the great work.🙂👍✌

    Looks like I'm going to need to hire an electrician. Installed these switches no problem. They are to operate the outside lights. one switch is in the garage the other at the front door. My problem is when I turn one of the switches off the other one gets killed. However, when on both are on.

    I saw a UA-cam video on installing a TP Link 3 way switch. In that video, it only requires one TP Link 3 way switch installed. The other switch was the original slaved 3 way switch. Does the Gosund require 2 WiFi switches to be installed?

    I tried to install mine but the wiring is jacked. The ground wire was not connected on the original. Left it off since it would not turn on/off with new one. I have 1 black wire that was connected on top of original. The other is 2 black combined and extended into one giving me only 1 wire. No white wire that I can see. How the heck do install this! :(. I loved your video!! ❣️

      🤔 Hi,. Oh boy sounds like there some interesting stuff going on there. Normally the neutral wires are bundled in the back of the box. What you could do is get a wire tester and test the wires on existing switch in off position. The wires that cause the tester to been in the off position would be live wires a the one that does not should be travel wire. But for safety you should always have a ground wire. Since i not sure of wire make up of the home the best thing is to test and know what your dealing with if you can't determine or are unsure it would be good to get a electrician to help out. Different location and years built sometime create different obstacles let me know if I can be of any further help

    Maybe I missed it. But will the switch fit in a regular gang? And if you use the regular switch (the dumb one at the other end of the hall) does it interfere with the smart one? (Smart one thinks it’s on but you switch the dumb one to off)

    • @BruceHunsaker
      @BruceHunsaker  3 роки тому

      The dummy switch communicates with the smart switch on its status. So they stay in sync

      Three way would be used for a area like a hallway where you have a switch that turns on the light at one end and another at the other end where you can turn it off at a two way is for just common switch that you use to turn on/off a light or ceiling fan hope that helps

      The switch in this video is a three way switch normally used when you want two switches to control a light or fan for example a switch at one end of a hallway and the other end. If it is a single switch these switches would not work... But there are ones out there that would

    I have installed one of these in a 3-way situation, and it was straightforward and easy. Since you only need one of these for a 3-way setup, I have another one for a separate application. Would it work with a 4-way situation?

    • @BruceHunsaker
      @BruceHunsaker  3 роки тому

      Looking at a 4 way wire diagram the the extra switch would be a area of interruption now I used a single pole switch in a three way in the past but what I did in that case was just eliminated the need for the second switch and completed the circuit. Since the intention was to voice control the switch there was no reason to have the additional switch. Guess you could do the same in a 4way wiring just complete the circuit in the one of the boxes. Not sure that's what you are looking for though. Hope it helps

      @@BruceHunsaker My plan was to take the Gosund 3-Way Switch, and use it at the switch box that receives the mains power, connecting all the wires in the identical way as the dumb switch is now configured, and then do nothing at all with the other two dumb switches. So the new smart switch location would have one connection to main, one to neutral, one to ground, and two travelers. Supposedly just like the existing dumb switch currently in place. The tricky part for me of course is identifying which of the three switch boxes receives the mains power.

    • @BruceHunsaker
      @BruceHunsaker  3 роки тому

      @@jackdozier4269 so I used a single pole switch in two of my 3 way switch areas but one was main and the other was not but in both cases I just completed the circuit by wire nuts the traveler to the main in the box that in completed the circuit in I tucked the wires back in the box and just used the old switch to cover the spot. So if you complete the circuit then what ever box you choose becomes the main. Now I am not a electrician. The best way to find your main is to get a wire tester

      @@BruceHunsaker Thanks. I've got the tester already. But the way that the switches are wired in a 4-way (3-switch) setup can be a bit confusing unless you disconnect some wires which I don't really want to do if I don't have to. Or if you are a true electrician, which I am not. I do everything outside of the panels, but I draw the line there.

      @@jackdozier4269 As Stated in previous comment, I am Not a electrician. I personally would suggest if you are not comfortable then don't attempt to do the wire work. As for the 4 way I believe that unless you can complete the circuit on one of the three switches basically turning a 4 way to a 3 way then i not sure it can be used in that fashion. Because the 3rd switch may continue the interruption of the power to the fixture.

    Uhg I need help. They become desynced and stop working I've tried a smart 3way at each end AND an analog at one end. But if the smart in position 1 is "off" then the analog or smart at position 2 won't work at all. If position 1 is on then position 2 works fine. But if position 1 is on but position two is turned off position 1 stops working for either on or off until position 2 is turned off again.

      The red wire should be your travel wire the white should be your neutral wire and the chance are the two black should be live wires. I would suggest getting a wire tester that check current they are normally 15 bucks. It will be the best money spent .
