There are so many layers to this song and ways of interpreting it. From addiction to a toxic relationship to just a general loss of control. Brilliant.
Or we could interperate literally and think of how scary it is when this song came out was what 2001? To 2003 somewhere between those years & then look at all these theories about cern & even the marvel avengers movies and the stories that inspire such movies the testimonies n conspiracies behind it all especially Donald marshall. UA-cam his name omg then listen to this or Ya know the lyrics lol so keep it in mind then ask yourself wait how'd an indie punk sub rock genre who's not so well known back then aside from mtv playing this songs video how did they know of this stuff that's soo deep? Creepier goes the rabbit hole
Look into the band's history and you'll realize that those interpretations probably aren't what Geoff Rickley imagined while writing... He lost a very close friend in a car crash and wrote this song about the aftermath. His song. Standing on the Edge of Summer was also written about losing someone close to him; he saw his grandmother once shortly before she passed and it affected him pretty deeply to see her so frail. The whole album (Full Collapse) toys with the ideas of loss and transience. No Devolucion as an album lingers on his divorce quite a bit. In his genre, and given his tendencies, I doubt his themes are so abstract and grandiose as a band like Muse. Instead, his songs are very introspective and ruminant.
Aaron King I'm aware of all of it (long time fan). But it's, for lack of a better word, just really cool how it's written in a way to be personalized to the listener in such a way. Most can find some kind of period in their lives where these words have meaning - and it's always a deeply emotional experience.
Agreed! I was responding more to Mr. Conspiracy Theory who interprets the song as something clairvoyant ^^; Music can have a lot of meanings, but of all bands to attribute accidental clairvoyance too, this is one of the easiest to refute. Muse would've been plausible.
One of the best song ever!!! I grew in a latino and hip hop music era in Massachusetts and New York, and this album changed everything for me. I never heard a sound like that. Truly amazing. I'll be playing this album forever..Thank You
I hope that everyone here is okay. If you are struggling, maybe professional help is the answer, or talking to a trusted friend about what you are going through. Please be safe and remember that people care about you, even if it may not feel like it sometimes. I wish you all the best.
I got into a car crash that everybody was surprised that I am alive. I lost control of my vehicle and did a 360. Luckily I hit a wall that stopped the vehicle completely. To this day I’m thankful that I am still alive and I didn’t hurt anybody
back in 2003 i broke up with a girl I loved and this song echoed in my head and on my car stereo every single day. i can't believe the time has gone so fast and the search is still on. i will always love this song. as for the girl, there were unfortunately a few many more i loved after her, and now they all mesh into a blur of regret. whether the song is about relationships or substance abuse, it doesn't matter to me, both of them i can relate to.
God, so underrated. Songs Like This should go down in history like any Queen song or Journey or fill in the blank. I understand it's on the sadder side of songs and tbey tend to not resonate for quite as long..people like to be positive, but still..
Man, memories- junior/ senior year of high school there were these 2 places that had shows and the entire crowd was high schoolers- nobody in the building over 18, so many hookups and so much sex- THIS was my jam back then

it's about taking a shit when so strongly constipated that time stops.
This song is so timeless. It hasn't aged a breath since I first heard it so long ago.

I wish music had more talent these days. This is worth more than gold. Music now is trash. I just want the emo fashion back. Rip
Well the “emo fashion” is back and real emo is struggling at this point
