I gave my best friend so much shit for liking this band, this song. He passed away years back, and I finally get it. This song, this band is special to me now.
I think this song is about gang violence and, specifically, gangfights over turf. First of all, there’s a lot of references to borderlines. If you have ever been/lived in a city with a lot of gentrification, then you would know that, in most places, you just have to cross the street to be in another gang’s territory. To me, the phrase “cross out the eyes” means to see people who are “different” as being less than you. Since the soul is shown through the eyes, and all living things come from the same source, if you cross out the eyes, then they don’t have a soul, so shooting them or hurting them you can do without any remorse. There’s also a line in there that says something about being in a hospital bed and it “happening all the time.” I just see a direct correlation between gang-violence and most of the lyrics. Even the reference to the address-change towards the end of the song make it pertinent that there was some danger in that geographic location. As far as the love-song-twist at the end, I think the lyricist is either A. Reflecting on someone he loves who was killed. Or B. Remembering someone that he had to leave behind who is still in the ghetto. I heard That a lot of this album was inspired by his friend who died in a car accident. Instead of having songs all about that one incident, this genius decided to write songs about all types of death. I believe that the last portion of this song is stringing together his experience with death (his friend in the car crash) to other tragic losses (gangster warfare). That’s just my interpretation. I love the fuck out of Thursday and I think they’re one of the best lyric-writers of the emo-era, next to Chiodos and Cursive.
@ Miiparader90 Thursday was around before TBS. If anything, you see so much of Thursday in Taking Back Sunday. Even though idk where you see any of that. haha
OG Designs I was talking about in general, you moron. I listen to all type of rock music with screaming in it. Punk rock isn't the only type of rock music that has screaming in it, ya know? Elitist fuck.
a silent dance that we did, into this hospital bed - probably one of my favourite lyrics ever! love this band.

The lyrics of the chorus remind me of the Sherlock episode "The Blind Banker"
High school vibes in the 2000s for me.

it's about being drunk, like me, and not exactly remembering what happened tonight...
Agreed, my friend. I was just thinking the same thing.
One of the most overall over-the-top, overintensived Rock songs I ever heard when it comes to screaming.
Randy Dubin you must be new to hardcore music. This isn't rock my friend.
OG Designs I was talking about in general, you moron. I listen to all type of rock music with screaming in it. Punk rock isn't the only type of rock music that has screaming in it, ya know? Elitist fuck.
Here I am ten years later
The screaming at the end is so over the top, it sounds like he is going to burst a brain vessel.
Weird lyrics, love it :)

Call me crazy for thinking this, but I think this song is a tribute to Salad Fingers.

I have a feeling that atleast 23 people dont understand the lyrics since they think theyre weird.
Was the part at 3:51-4:06 Even fucking necessary?
