I am an 82 year old male crocheter who started at age 11 (yes, I’ve been crocheting for over 70 years). I first tried Tunisian about 40 years ago when making the background fabric for a Bernat cross stitch afghan. The instruction sheet walked me through what I now know was the simple stitch to make the afghan strips. I finished the project, put away the afghan hook, and forgot all about it until I started watching your videos and tutorials about 2 weeks age. You fired me up, girl! Now (after a couple days practice) I’m working on a lace stitch Tunisian scarf project. Can’t wait to see where I go from there.

Tunisian is one of the first things my grandmother taught me over 60 years ago. Until I found you, I only knew the simple stitch, which I grew up calling it the Afghan stitch. I’ve definitely moved on, making several of your patterns. Your tutorials, and your book, are wonderful. Thank you for promoting this wonderful craft.

I learned Tunisian crochet via your UA-cam channel. I bought your book (Absolutely amazing!!!), and made the braided headband, made it a bit bigger and added more yarn to make it a cowl and then emailed you a picture of my daughter modeling the two pieces. When you emailed me back with positive feedback, I was completely blown away and felt like a school girl meeting her fave celeb!
My advice to any newbies is to learn from you! Your voice is comforting, your instructions and tutorials are simple and easy to grasp, and your glowing personality brightens up the darkest days!
Thank you, Toni, for all that you bring to the world of crafting!

Hi Toni, I'm excited to try Tunisian crocheting. I've been crocheting for 2 years and still learning. I have question after watching some of your videos. When making a blanket do all of the stitches have to fit on the hook. Saying like if you have 130 start chain. And when you are changing colors I see you pick up the color along the side does it stay that way when the project is done or do you do some special to finish it off. My brain is on over load and excitement 😅
Thanks for sharing and teaching. ❤

I’m 75 now, but when I was young even though I crocheted (Grandma taught me), when I saw a book with how to Tunisian crochet I just assumed it was hard - I was thrown off by the name “Tunisian”. It’s foreign like learning a new language, so it will be hard. I had enough hard things in my life so I said I'll pass. There were no videos and definitely no Toni Lipsey to show me how easy it really is. After I retired and saw your videos I gave it a try and I was hooked. My favorite blanket I made is Tunisian. Love you❤️

I just started Tunisian crochet and coming from someone who has been doing “traditional” crochet up until now I am in LOVE with this style. To anyone nervous to start I actually think it’s much easier than traditional crochet especially when working with difficult yarn such as a stiff cotton. I am having difficulty learning how to add on to pieces that I’ve created to extend one side or another, if you have a video on that? Just found your channel and I love it so far! The craft community on UA-cam is top tier 👏 !

I love tunisian crochet because it's fun and it creates beautiful fabrics! I taught myself in 1988 by reading a pattern book so I could make my firstborn's special blanket. We still have it and it was so much fun to learn something new in crochet as I was going to learn life lessons as a new parent. I love it most because it looks like knitting(which I don't know how to do) and can follow a graph to make pictures and color changes easily. I also love watching your videos! Thanks!

Hi. A question for help with the starts/endings.
I fell in love with T.C just a couple of weeks ago but has spent the last days to solve the Smoch/k stitch pattern's ending. Very thoroughly... Still, I have problems seeing an understandable (to me at least) "pattern" on 1. the starts vs endings and 2. How these alternates from row 1 to row 2. And the more YT videos I watched (including your nice videos) the more confused I got: It SEEMED that the approach to the four endings and starts on the two FP's, were/are slightly different in order (yet still "ends up" as it should after four rows, apparently?) IS that possible to do? 🤔
Or is it somehow me mixing it up every time? One tips I use is keep an eye at the loop count toward each FP row, but it still doesn't help me all the way.
So to wrap my start up: If anyone has some smart tips on how to make the start and endings on FP1 and 2 easier to make out or understand, I'd be forever grateful! 🙏
Bcs the Smoch/k stitch pattern is d(y)arn beautiful! Thank You for amazing video-tutorials on T.C.

I tried Tunisian crochet at last year's Crochet Academy and bought your book! You are so right that it is meditative and addictive. I'm making the Tunic and the yarn that was recommended in your pattern I had not used before so I thought I would try it. It is very smooth and easy to work with. (unfortunately, I'm drawing a blank on the yarn). I'm so glad that you have made several patterns using this technique. I have arthritis in my hands and find that Tunisian Crocheting isn't as hard on my hands as straight crocheting after doing a long bit of knitting projects. Hi Toni! I just ordered your Tunisian book and can’t wait to get it. I found your channel a few months ago and my old arthritic hands and I just want to say thank you! I do have a question, when I crochet, I lug my stuff downstairs and for someone who is disabled, this can be a task. I can’t leave my stuff downstairs (long story, I’m trying to fix). I have a notions bag but omg is it heavy. What do you keep in your travel notions bag? I tend to keep all of my hooks with me just in case my tension is off that day. Then I keep needles, measuring tape, scissors, stitch markers, my Amour Clover hooks, my Tukani hooks and a set of double ended Tunisian hooks. I was wondering what you ( or any of you! ) typically carry. Oh! Thanks to your recommendation, I ordered that metal Tunisian set from Alixpress. I found I do prefer metal hooks.

I have been interested in Tunisian Crochet for a long time(about 4 years). However, I thought I needed the Tunisian hooks. I didn't know how or where to find them. I learned Tunisian from your videos, but I never really mastered it in the flat (in the round was really easy). My problem, which I would love if you could maybe make a video on if it's a common enough issue, is uneven tension. Specifically, my ending edge is rather tight, compared to the beginning of the row, so I end upwith a very lopsided project. Any advice?

I’ve been trying to learn Tunisian crochet for a few days now (not new to regular crochet) and I cannot figure out why it’s so hard for me to get my hook into the back bumps in the foundation chain! I relaxed my tension, went up hook sizes and I still struggle! Im also struggling with which two loops I’m supposed to put my hook into at the end of the forward pass. Other than that, the simple stitch is working up great! It’s absolutely beautiful and definitely addicted. Sad I missed you in Chicago! Hope you head back or to Milwaukee soon!

Love all your 'costume changes' like you are hosting an award show ;) I really enjoy the process of tunisian crochet, but I find that my tension is uneven across the row, so my stuff is coming out wonky (my the time I reach the left side, I've tightened up some). So I haven't yet invested in more expensive projects. I do enjoy scrap blankets in panels though. I will get there eventually!

I love Tunisian crochet. I was purging and found a bunch of skeins bought for a project and decided to make a rectangular Tunisian Entrelac blanket for my livingroom. One skein matched my new couch. I also found an old pattern for a dinosaur Tunisian blanket. Squares are 12x12 and then you cross stitch the dinosaurs onto the front. Tunisian simple stitch makes it easy to make and X. I plan to sew flannel on back of completed blanket.

I started my Tunisian crochet adventure with Toni's Entreat Shawl. I watched a bunch of TLYC videos on Tunisian and few in Enterlac (that is the technique in this shawl) and bought my yarn. Some would say this is more difficult than standard Tunisian, but who doesn't love a challenge - right? Now I have made a bunch of shawls. For me they are a socially acceptable blanket to take to church. The ONLY shawl anyone has ever stopped and asked about is Toni's Entreat. They admire the intricacies of it. Little do they know how simple it really is. I am now making my third version for someone from church. They pay for the yarn and I stitch. @tlyc if you are looking for a content idea - a tutorial for this would be great. I couldn't find one on your channel. If it is there - pls point me in the direction. Also, if you could also do one showing how to do it straight across for a square or rectangle and also how to decrease a CTC to go from a triangle to a square or rectangle would also be great. Just food for thought!

You inspired me to try out Tunisian Crochet!!
I must say, it's super fun, but I find it just a tad limiting, bc (to my knowledge) you can't do amigurumi or granny squares with it :0

I absolutely LOVE Tunisian crochet! I can't seem to get my samples to be square. The left side always comes out longer that the right. It doesn't matter what stitch I use it's always lopsided. Any advice?

I love regular crochet but I don't like to knit. So I'm on the fence about Tunisian cause it really is a mix between the two. I haven't found any projects I want to do so it could be the aimlessness. But generally I don't like doing the same thing for too long. I need fast progress and I can do Tunisian crochet for hours and barely get anywhere 😅

When you said Kansas, I first thought Canada. Please come up north of the border!
If using a regular crochet hook, tightly place a small rubber band at the end of the hook. It'll keep your stitches from falling off and won't be permanent.

Hi I just learned about Tunisian crochet and I just got my Tunisian crochet hooks. They work great for knitting and crochet. I am still practicing with the Tunisian crochet stitch. Right now I am single crocheting a towel yarn blanket for my cat. This yarn is hard to work with. I did make her a peg loom blanket from this yarn. My needles are not long enough to Tunisian crochet her a blanket. I am back and forth between the single crochet and learning Tunisian crochet. This is probably my third day into it. I just made about 3 jasmine stitch hats and my granddaughter a jasmine stitch blanket.

I'm taking a beginners Tunisian crochet class toward the end of May. I want to buy just the hook I need before I invest in a set because I want to know I'll continue to do it.
Why are a majority of the hooks wood? I've never used wood hooks and I'm willing to try them but not when I'm learning. I much prefer in-line hooks but those are hard to find. Do I just have to go with a tapered hook until I decide if I'm going to spend money on a full set?

Toni, I learned from you and bought your book! Tunisian is easy! I love the way it can look like knitting without messing with a million needles! I’m looking for some patterns for a tight weave Tunisian crochet sock. I love the idea of making my own wool socks but I don’t want to knit! Love your channel and spirit!! 😊

I realized that the simple stitch felt familiar when I worked 5 sets if your Kitchen Trio as Christmas gifts. I have an unfinished afghan for my middle son which I started 8-10 years ago. It uses a 35mm tunisian crochet hook and 2 different colors of yarn. I hope to finish it soon.

I'm just learning Tunisian crochet and I feel pretty good about it except for one thing. The right edge of my work is so much looser than the rest. I try to make the tension tighter there, but it still ends up being kind of sloppy. If I lay my piece down, it's bigger on that edge even. It is like this no matter what stitch or pattern I try. What am I doing wrong?? Stitch count and everything is consistent. It looks like stretched out on that edge, just the furthest stitch on the right. I can't make anything until I get this fixed 😩

Hi....I tried a small swatch using the Tunisian simple stitch for the first time. I'm looking to see how well it will go for a top/smock project I want to try out. I'm glad I found your channel to learn more on Tunisian crochet

I would like to do more Tunisian crochet, but my hands get numb when I do it. It doesn't happen as much when I do regular crochet or knit, but Tunisian crochet I can't somehow relax and do it comfortably 😢

I absolutely LOVE Tunisian crochet! I have now made 4 Elfcoats in tks and working on my 5th. I can look daunting in the beginning but as you say it is not hard to learn at all. I've made a blanket too in the entrelac style from the middle and out as a gift that was very loved. Love your channel ❤ ❤

Hi Toni, have you heard of this stitch? It is the half double tunisian crochet stitch. There is less curling with this stitch. It is my favorite. I enjoy watching your UA-cam tutorials. Thank you.
