- From 1926 to 1928, Gordon Stewart Northcott committed at least 20 murders on a chicken ranch outside of Los Angeles. His nephew, Sanford Clark, was held captive there from the age of 13 to 15, and was the sole surviving victim. Here, acclaimed crime writer Anthony Flacco tells the real story behind the case that riveted the nation. Buy the Book: search.barnesan...
May all those children rest in peace, this is TERRIBLE :(
Sanford even looks sad as a grownup :( I'm glad he found some peace. Had his own children and wife.
I am aslo glad that he had a loving
family
So sad. My dad was abused by his father. He never told me everything he just said the beating stopped when he got older and stood up for his mother. He said he grabbed his hand and said 'if you ever put your hands on her I will kill you!'" Years later when my dad beat my mom for years I called the cops on him. It was horrible but I needed it to stop. Physical abuse is the worse. Someone in the chain needs to make it stop. This little boy made it stop. It took courage.
That's not even one percent bad as this story guy...this is like nightmares
It is sad what happens to these kids! My uncle who is a very sweet and loving man was kidnapped with his friend and they were both molested and tortured. They were lucky to get away. The man that kidnapped, tortured, molested, and killed numerous children and luckily he was caught and died by lethal injection. My uncle has a lot of demons but he is one of the most peaceful, loving, sweet person that has ever walked this earth. He had to go through many years of therapy to get to where he is now
Wow ,Julie that’s so sad.
May God bless your uncle and you too! I hope you both are okay
Julie Amaral tell our uncle I LOVE HIM
God save him from those demons.
Love to your uncle, his friend and all of their loved ones. You must be very proud of him. ❤❤❤
I read this book and feel so bad about Sanford Clark. He was terrorized, beaten, raped, sexually tortured and forced to participate in murder. Also he was buried alive several times. He was seriously messed up for the rest of his life, although he functioned in society. It's sad that he was never able to psychologically overcome his ordeal, but who could?
I agree, yet it is possible to overcome. I know someone who did. Help through a caring therapist, and faith in God has made a great difference for the better, almost unbelievably.. Never give up. Life is a gift and we can all overcome with the help of the Lord.
@@alexandraasbury9974Parfois la réalité dépasse la fiction ... moi j'étais victime d'un inceste d'un viol beauuucoup d'abus par ci par là et le comble c'est que ma fille subit le même sort
@@sabahbella8087 I’m so sorry.
Just finished the book. I cant stop crying, I feel so bad for Sanford but happy that he had a wonderful life after. Why people treat kids this way will allude me my whole life. I would love to have a son like Sanford, a caring, smart kid. Im so releived he had a good life.
Jennifer Devereaux have you watched the changeling. It's based on this story. It stars angelina jolie
The Balamory no, I heard its pretty good. Will catch it on youtube. Thanks.
Jennifer Devereaux I also read this book it was horrifying
Sanford Clark was plagued with nightmares, depression and often thought of suicide for the rest of his life. I wouldn't call that a happy ever after. Upon his death bed his son told him he loves him. Sanford's last words to his son were "Why would you".
Jennifer Devereaux This is America they have been doing this since 1492
he is indeed a hero. Imagine if he didnt had the courage to tell the truth at that moment..oh goshhh
This book was such a hard read for me in terms of the subject matter. What this poor boy went through and what the other boys that were murdered went through. It's hard to believe such evil exists in this world. It's been a while since I've read it so I may have to give it another look. But I'm glad Sanford's son went and told his father's story because it takes extraordinary strength to be able to survive something so brutal and traumatizing and go on to have a family and be a warm loving man.
RIP to all those poor innocent boys he killed and RIP Sanford Clark, truly sorry for everything you all endured.
I feel sorry for him, the little boy was abused and forced to murder kids his own age. Just sick
The way he was treated by his Uncle and the torture must of been etched in his brain for the rest of his life.... Poor Man!!! Just read about the Chicken Coop Murders... Absolutely Horrendous!! So much sympathy for Sanford...so glad he managed to live out the rest of his life contented! As for Gordon... MAY HE REST IN HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY!!!!!
why has no one made a documentary about this ? the movie changeling misses lots of the story out
It didn't even mention how the killers mother came from Canada and also took turns hitting Walter with the Ax and hammer while he sat in a chair and he also molested those boys.
Keep in mind that it was just a movie they couldn't really fit everything in.&&& I think it was an attempt to bring awareness to what had happened. Just to get everyome in the know. (Who would want a guy molesting kids in a movie anyways)
+justine tate the true story is to horrible n freaky, scary, to be a movie. Dammit, the Changeling freakked me the hell out n was so upsetting when we find out what happened to the boys :''(
+Jacob Meehoff i actually read the back the road out of hell it was so fucked up what that creep did to those boys and his nephew. The whole entire family was fucked in the heads!
IKR!
It is impossible to comprehend how any child can go through what Sanford Clark experienced and emotionally survive.
Flacco takes up the challenge of telling this story and obviously dug deep to extract the horror and heroism of this amazing man and his son who wants to honor his father.
Truly Flacco is to be praised for taking up what I'm sure left him with many sleepless nights.
Thanks for this. Just saw the Changeling, and have been wondering how Sanford did. Our hearts go out to all who suffered.
I've just finished watching "Changeling", i was curious of the real Sanford Clark and his story. It breaks my heart seeing this horrible sadness in his eyes, when you look at those old photos. I'm soooo glad the rest of his life was much better. No one should go through horror like this.
I read all the materials written on this particular case, including movies and it should be noted that although kids see and experience horrible things. they don't all grow up to be serial killers. some make hillbilly music. hey we can't win them all.
RIP Sanford i feel bad for him :(
just found out about this story a few days ago and im really interested in it and reading the book.
i absolutely hate that sanford never forgave himself for something that wasn’t his fault. but i’m comforted knowing he’s in heaven happy now
This book was very good, and awful. He went through too much. Reading it made you almost feel his pain. It's an terrible story.
That book has disturbed me. I regret reading it. Poor boys, including Sanford.
In 1962 a young Saskatoon nurse named Alexandra Wiwarchuk went for a walk and never came home. Two weeks later her body was found sticking out of a shallow grave not far from her home next to the river that runs through the city. Her case is unsolved to this day. Except her neighbour across the alley was Sanford Clark. Her mailman was Sanford Clark and her paperboy was Jerry Clark. Both were considered as suspects. In that book, Road Out Of Hell, the only mention of her is one sentence “that nurse in the neighbourhood” and nothing is mentioned about the case. It might all be coincidence but it’s a pretty big coincidence.
And avoiding to include it in his story makes it even more suspicious. Just like talking about the war in Ukraine and leaving out that the Ukrainian side for 8 years prior to this war have been equipped and trained by specialists from USA and Canada.
Jerry Clark submitted DNA in 2003 and there's been no word about it since then, so I think it's safe to assume he's been ruled out as a suspect. As for Sandford, unless he has blood relatives who can submit DNA we may never know unless there's a break in the case and the killer is identified.
@@Muirmaiden Yep. In 2004. One of the articles about the 60th anniversary mentioned the victim’s family still has three suspects in mind but that one was exonerated via DNA. I think it’s time to get a genealogical DNA search on the DNA found on her body. I wondered if they could get a sample from Clark’s uncle who was executed but the potters field where he was incarcerated is a mess of an abandoned field now and no one knows which grave is which. What boggles my mind is local police is still asking for witnesses to come forward, instead of just doing a genealogical dna search.
@@ryancoulter4797 Sandford Clark had at least one sister who could have had children and grandchildren, so that might be a place to start (and probably easier than trying to find Northcott's body). It's possible there are witnesses, but I doubt anyone saw the murder happen.
@@Muirmaiden yes I doubt anyone is going to come forward willingly. I’m curious about the family’s third suspect. Rumours still swirl about the son of a local politician. Except there are two names mention, one being a guy who was later tried and convicted of another murder (was the ‘trial of the century’ in Saskatchewan).
They should really really really make a documentary of this . I just watched the movie today on Netflix Changeling , omg omg omg such a sweet brave Nd courageous boy Walter 😳😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭I cried so much how can a man kill children children oh like why God after all this he had just death by hanging after killing up to 20 kids Oh GOD please help ya and kids 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
WTF the mother helped kill those children and she only got 12 years in prison and was released?
She got life long and died there
yep isnt that crazy? cant believe they paroled her after 12 years, she literally got away with murder
RIP Sandford Clark.
D: R.I.P
Sand for didn't die
+Teleesha Hinton He died in 1991.
+Teleesha S He died at the age of 78
are we sure he died... There;s a singer who looks just like him who's calms to be 83 now and has no bio history...but i think he would be older than 83 look him up
This is no trailer. This is a mini-documentary, complete with a host every bit as engaging as the story. The production value is Ken Burns -- the storyteller is vintage Anthony Flacco.

im reading the book, now, picked it up from a librarian. i've only read up to chapter 11, and i have yet to find out what Gordon will do with Sanford afrer he's helped the family....horrifying to read, but i can't put it down...
He truly was in hell. I don't know how many people could have gone through that without completely losing it.
The Publishers of this book state that "Gordon Northcott committed at least 20 murders on a chicken ranch outside of Los Angeles", attributing this statement supposedly to Jerry Clark and Mr. Flacco. If any of you reading this are interested in the historical and legal record of this statement, then you can know that the Los Angeles Police had a possible theory, but completely discounted it, as they had no evidence to support the theory. That is just 1 of the problems with this book. Certain parts are sensationalized and glamorized in order to sell books and make money.
Would sure like to see a FULL documentary on the topic. Does anyone know if there is one (or more)? Is it here on UA-cam? I was actually quite surprised, being a true-crime fanatic, that I'd never even heard of Northcott nor could I find a good documentary on him. I believe Clark's story would be equally interesting to watch, if not more so.
RosieFbxAk watch the movie it's called the changeling and starts angelina jolie
Changeling only skims the surface, but it's a very good place to start
@@imtoounimportantforagoodus9598 It's awful. (It's a biopic) but WOW! Soo long & unevenly paced.

The house is still here in Riverside, ca on wine Ville & limonite . It's the 5 house on the right. ..
I live 20 minutes from the house here in Canyon Crest riverside ca
Good book--some producer ought to pick it up as a movie script in its own right. It is interesting that, althought Flacco was highly tactful in communicating this, Sanford married a rather abrasive, controlling woman. I wonder to what extent his early experiences with his mother, and especially his uncle, influenced his choice of companionship. It chills me to think that he may have felt compelled in this way to keep a vestige of the "Stewart factor" around him throughout his life.
Judith Shipstad I read somewhere a long time ago that people tend to marry the personality type of the parent that had the biggest effect on them, een if it was negative. He likely needed somebody strong, but she overdid it.
There is a movie, Changeling, with angelina jolie, came out in 2008, very good movie
Enserio era una mala persona la esposa de sanford?
Concuerdo deberian hacer una pelicula sobre sanford clark
Took place in Mira Loma, Ca. I've heard they found several more remains when they started construction
Anyone know what happened to his son jerry after the book ? Can’t find anything
Sanford was a damn good singer songwriter and you can hear the pain in his songs but the grace of God he made it

I'm so looking forward to reading this book. Seeing the other side of the story should be even more interesting than the story itself. It's scary how reality can be horrifying...

Canadians... nice people...
I just finished reading the book. Utterly riveting story. This is THE real "hero" story from Wineville Murders. I had known and learned about the 1928 killings but always wondered about Sanford Clark and how he survived all that hell. I couldn't wait for the book and it was worth all the wait.
Watching this because its on netflix
It’s not on American Netflix :( I live in jurupa valley not too far from where this happened... super sad tho

? Probably executed by Gordon, Gordon's mum and Sandford who was force to join.

The greatest trick Satan's ever pulled is make us believe he doesn't exist. This story proves he is real. Period. Bless you Mr. Clark for your courage. I hope you found Jesus♡
@Ilovethebeatles98 he's in his late 60's.
Why didn't he do this in his own Country of Canada?
Herbert The Pervert America is the place with this type of behavior it is breed it and nurtured here
The Northcott family left Canada under a cloud of suspicion.
Easier to get away with here he new the police didnt care he read the papers too
He fondled a kid in Canada kid was lucky and got away without being raped. Boy told his parents who went to the police. Gordon and his mum said the kid had an active imagination, nothing happened. They moved to the USA after the incident. I guess easy to melt in and disappear in the USA.
