Shorikai is great... UW having a scepter and HbH outlet in the command zone is big. I don't like the polymorph list though, you lose too much from not having any other creatures, and you hit yourself on the foot with humility

@@Kallastin Imo ppl should not be focusing on the shrine part but on the enchantment part of that card. Enchantment matters like sanctum combined with stuff like constilation is surprisingly good. I agree that its probably not CEDH good, but I would like to see it tried out.

It is really easy to get an insane amount of enchantments. The enchantment theme gives tons of mana and card draw, and constellation or other etb-triggers are good finishers/stacks. One great thing about this is that the effect triggers on etb, and many cards that are real good with tokens are also enchantments. Again, this is probably not good enough for a CEDH, but it's a very strong and explosive midrange/grind deck. I am not a good deckbuilder, but the one I made is strong in comparison to the rest of my group.
Loving this set so far. Decided to build Isshin and Satoru. Slotted my boy Jin right into Satoru, pulled the phyrexian version in a pack. The lands are gorgeous too.
I learned the 1 polymorph target problem over 12 years ago, sad to see you youngsters are just now learning it ;) Also, the best part of this video was having to hear Dylan read out loud "anime tiddies" with a straight face. Great show as always, excellent editing. As usual, the most threatening deck for casual level play (Hinata in this case) didn't get to do its thing. I look forward to all of the twitter threads asking for a Hinata ban because of WotC overlooking all of the X spells the card interacts too favorably with.
I don’t really like watching game play but you guys are pretty great. I’d still rather have a deck tech or set review to watch but I have to say this is the second time I’ve watched this game. You’d take that as a big compliment if you knew how rarely I watch a game once thru. I’ve never watched another game twice ever. My fiancé jokes about these people she watches on UA-cam being “her friends” and I do get it now. You all remind me sooo much of all the guys I used to play with in my twenties (I’m 42 now and some of those guys are not even alive now) but somehow you create videos that literally produce a sense of nostalgia in me. I’m one of two entire people working on Shorikai on the discord. I’m glad you guys were preaching the gospel. I was trying to convince the other dude on there that he should run vanquish the hordes and out of time in his poly version (I’m not doing poly things). I feel like out of time should be in that list. It’s a white/x control deck that can make tokens that only plays one creature and even it’s damned commander isn’t a creature. If Out of Time fits literally anywhere at all.. it must be there, no? And I think we all sorta angreed it was a good card.
@@trainspartan4464 The commander is a scepter outlet. You can use dramatic scepter to draw your deck and generate all the mana. In my list I just have one copy of Nexus of fate in the deck. That way when I draw myself out I play that and take an extra turn to attack with my nigh infinite army from all the commander activations. He’s also using polymorph (I don’t) so he can hit Hullbreaker horror and use it to tap and bounce mana rocks then replay them and tap and bounce to make infinite mana (as long as he has a mana positive rock and at least another he can go mana neutral on. Then he can bounce the commander and replay it to continue to activate it as many times as he needs. Basically the win con is “draw your deck”. As to how he literally closes out the game, in his list he just has to cobble something together that wins. It’s easier than it maybe seems w unbounded mana and access to all your cards. He could use codex shredder to mill everyone out by untapping it and activating it over and over with dramatic reversal/scepter.. he can do that same trick by bouncing the codex shredder and recasting it with Hullbreaker horror. He can make an immense army and then bounce every single non land permanent his opponents have, he can cast time twister over and over a couple ways with Narset in play to make sure his opponents are all hell bent. He can use copy artifact to copy his scepter and imprint swan song on the copy then he can make infinite bird tokens by using dramatic scepter to get a bunch of scepter activations on the stack and then start countering his own copies (dueling scepters) to make an army of 2/2 flyers and then bounce all his opponents things and then wheel their stuff away with Narset out so they have no permanents and no cards in hand and you have an infinite army and he has a perfectly sculpted hand to stop whatever feeble attempts the table might top deck on their last turn. The simplest thing for his deck is prob just to mill everyone out with codex shredder. In my version I just have one copy of nexus of fate and I deck myself so I cast and draw it every turn for as many turns as it takes (likely just one more. It almost says “give your army haste” but has backup text of “take all the turns if that isn’t good enough”) Hope that’s not too complicated. The simple answer is “imprint dramatic reversal onto isochron scepter and use your commander as an outlet”

Since “reveal” is different than “look,” activating Counterbalance WITHOUT topdeck knowledge does mean it’s just blind sometimes. You can’t look and then decide not to reveal unless a separate card says you can.

16:55 teeny weeny correction, you actually don't need to name your choices for Turnabout because it's not a modal spell. That also means that if you copied it, you can choose different choices for the copy.
I think they played it correctly. You don't have to say whether you're tapping or untapping, or whether you're choosing artifact, creature, or land, but you DO have to declare the player you're targeting as you cast Turnabout. I assume that's why Dylan floated mana and activated his Top in response, which interestingly allowed Nate to choose to tap Dylan's creatures.
Yeah, having only 1 Polymorph target can be dangerous, unless you're planning to abuse the 'set your library order' with Proteus Staff, and even in that my build uses 2 creatures, Sphinx of the Second Sun and OG Jin, Sphinx can be a free roll even, since he untaps everything for you, and finding your Jin first doesn't exactly feel bad I must say. Hinata is a tough cast, which is a huge balancing factor, Shorikai seems fine (looks good with wipes though, your Commander almost always survives them), and Reality Chip looks more interesting than I expected, though it does also seem to be on the clunkier side (needing a suite of creatures to reconfigure onto seems like it's asking an awful lot). I think this was a better game than usual for a Commanders (and Otawara!) from Standard mostly game, in part because these are decent Commanders.
Just curious. When Dylan tried to Swords Jin-Gitaxias and Nate cast Miscast and started a counter war. Shouldn't he have made copies of all his counterspells? Absolutely great game all the control and card draw keeping everyone interacting

This was the most intense stacking game I've seen come out of this channel and I loved it. That was amazing.
All of these are impressive. Reality chip and shorkai was the biggest surprise tho.
Shorokai was obviously busted from reveal.

As a resident blue player I really enjoyed watching that stack get bigger than a commander deck several times.
Although not the most powerful MTG set it’s been my favourite set in ages! Just the flavour, the story, the art!

You don't have to say whether you're tapping or untapping, or whether you're choosing artifact, creature, or land, but you DO have to declare the player you're targeting as you cast Turnabout. I assume that's why Dylan floated mana and activated his Top in response, which interestingly allowed Nate to choose to tap Dylan's creatures.

Yeah, having only 1 Polymorph target can be dangerous, unless you're planning to abuse the 'set your library order' with Proteus Staff, and even in that my build uses 2 creatures, Sphinx of the Second Sun and OG Jin, Sphinx can be a free roll even, since he untaps everything for you, and finding your Jin first doesn't exactly feel bad I must say. Hinata is a tough cast, which is a huge balancing factor, Shorikai seems fine (looks good with wipes though, your Commander almost always survives them), and Reality Chip looks more interesting than I expected, though it does also seem to be on the clunkier side (needing a suite of creatures to reconfigure onto seems like it's asking an awful lot). I think this was a better game than usual for a Commanders (and Otawara!) from Standard mostly game, in part because these are decent Commanders.

Just curious. When Dylan tried to Swords Jin-Gitaxias and Nate cast Miscast and started a counter war. Shouldn't he have made copies of all his counterspells?

Jin only copies one spell per turn.
