    I turned 40 last week.
    - put work into friendships and people who mean a lot to you.
    - don’t waste time trying to convince someone to like you
    - Spend quality time with your parents if you have a good relationship with them. My dad died 5 years ago and I would give anything to have him back.
    - Buy quality items like clothing. It’s worth the extra money for it to last longer / take good care of the things you have
    - everything is cyclical. Life is not always great, but it’s not always difficult either.

      @@shruti3000Take it from a 31 year old (and this is still an opinion ofc), you're not old. You still got time to do so many things. But DO them. Use your twenties to work hard, do the things you want, but also very important: find things you enjoy and do these things too. Find your balance. You've got time, but not all the time in the world to waste.
      You've got this! ❤

    The only thing I'd tell my 25 y/o self is that consistency is more important than anything else. If you remain consistent at something you will improve no matter what. Stop trying to do things fast just do things consistently.

    Do your strength training, sun screen, water, fibre, and sleep! Most people who meet me at first don't realise I am in my 40's. Stress can make you age. Laughing is important. Laugh EVERY DAY! It doesn't have to be all day, but laugh for at least 5 minutes. It will help you feel good and look young.

      i try to take a fiber supplement (metamucil) but i get so bloated, i stop taking it. does that go away? i really want to be getting enough fiber

    • @ivylovesrunning
      @ivylovesrunning 5 місяців тому +12

      @haleymillis I wouldn't bother with that. The cheapest and easiest way is to have porridge/oatmeal every day. If you don't have time to make it, I find boiling the kettle or getting hot water then pouring it over the oats just enough to cover the amount with water. Put a plate, lid, or in a sealable jar and letting the oats sit for 30 minutes before adding whatever you want to when ready to eat. Extra things I have added to give myself more fibre and health benefits are chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and whatever desired fruit. These days my usual go every day porridge looks like this, 20g chia seeds, 40 to 60g Scottish porridge oats (rolled oats), 2g ashwangandha powder, 1g maca powder, dash of turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp ceylon cinnamon powder, 4 teaspoons stevia powder, and 1 apple. Turmeric bitter tasting, if you add it is best to add a tiny amount and build up little by little over time. I can eat this without stevia. But I also like to eat it sweet too. I add in almond milk a good splash of almond milk if it looks too dry, but I have added extra cold water too.

    • @kaktuskukkarossa

      @@ivylovesrunning i make my oatmeal similarly! But i also add berries (for taste and nutrition), cottage cheese (for protein. However the taste differs in countries so i probs wouldnt do it everywhere) and sometimes i slice a banana if i feel like it. My friend smushes a banana into the porridge to give it a sweet taste.

    I'd like to add that another healthy hack. As a woman approaching 40 in a few months I've learned that avoiding drama is CRUCIAL to your health. There's no need for gossip,don't worry about what people think of you, stop trying to please everyone and most importantly YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE THE LAST WORD. That one was a tough one for me because I felt like if I didn't have the last word than thar means the other person won the argument. Honestly, winning the argument I when you walk away from the bullshit and be at peace. My mental health and sanity are more important than getting them arguing with someone.

When my grandkids tell me I am old, I smile and say, “yes, and I am so glad I am old because that means I am still here and I get to watch you grow up🥰” I had a very special friend who died in her early 40’s and when I get depressed about being “old”, I just remember her and how she wished so desperately that she would survive her cancer so she could see her kids grow up. Trying to every year I have left!

I wish I had followed some of your tips when I was younger. Especially the sunscreen! I have so many age spots on the parts of my body that got the most sun! When you one day (sooner than you anticipate) become a mama, you’ll really realize that you are only irreplaceable to your family. That’s where your priority should lie. Also: wear sunscreen & moisturizer every day! You will feel so much better about yourself.

    Five years ago I was 23 and I would tell myself not to fear getting older. I feel like I get hotter and stronger every year now. Working out has been so important in my life. Getting in a good pump when life seems to be falling apart really puts things into perspective. The worst day of my life was when I was 27 and I had accomplished a 45 minute workout that morning at 6:00am. I’m 24 but what I’d tell 19 year old me is to stop worrying about a routine or what my new “go-to” exercise was that I was convinced I had to find and enjoy moving your body in ways that make you happy. I was a dancer and I was used to such a strict routine so when I lost dance after 16 years it was hard not to find the new dance replacement. This week I’m at an ocean and it’s jumping around in the waves for many hours and a nice walk to the pier and back. That’s just as valid as playing pickleball with friends or a mountain hike. Health is meant to be enjoyed so enjoy being young and moving your body in ways you can:) routines can be helpful but routines can also control your mental health too much.

    - Don't be scared to gain weight.

    INVEST IN A GOOD BED. In your 20s, sleeping on a futon or a floor mattress or some crap feels romantic and bohemian. It is a recipe for a bad back. There are some things you should try to save money on, and some things you should be willing to tough out. Then there are things you should absolutely spend money on. A really great mattress is one of those things. Your back will thank you.

    Every time on my birthday I'm just amazed I've managed to keep myself alive for another year. 😂
    Some advice for younger people from a 45 yr old who's made many mistakes;
    - Just as Keltie said, use sunscreen! Every time the index is over 2, protect your skin. Over 1, if you're very light skinned. And don't forget your hands because if you don't protect them, the backs of your hands will look absolutely reptilian by the time you hit 40. Also, don't forget to use sunglasses. Your eyes also need to be protected from the sun. Also, when you don't squint you don't develop extra wrinkles.
    - Eat a wide variety of foods, and remember to have something healthy and something delicious at every meal; you never know when it's your last. Eat least 5 different colors every day, as my nutrition teacher used to say (and no, different color gummy bears don't count, I checked!). At least 500 grams of mixed veg and 1-2 fruits a day will help keep your bowel movement regular. Trust me, when you get older, this becomes very important! 😄
    - If in your every day life you go a bit to the overboard side with one meal, compensate for it both beforehand and afterwards if you feel like you have to. Don't miss full meals because of it. Never feel guilty for pleasure, because that takes away the point of it all. Always make sure you have days when you don't give what you eat a second thought, just have what you want and enjoy the heck out of it with no guilty conscience.
    - Start building your corset muscles and keep them in shape. At 40, your back (and the rest of your body) will remember what you did at 20 and 30.
    - Do more of what makes you happy. You can't buy happiness, unless it's a donut or a dog. Use your money for experiences, and don't give consumerism too much space in your life. If you take nothing else from what I wrote, please take this with you.

    I would tell myself to stop worrying so much about doing everything the right way, in fact stop worrying so much in general. The fact is that your mind will make everything seem like a big deal, an insurmountable mountain, a terror you can’t face. But in reality, none of that is true, it’s just the mind trying to convince you to stay “safe” by preventing you from doing anything. And also, there is no one right way, and the best way for you to do something is the one that will actually get you to do the thing.

    When you completly accept youself , then you can accept others and circumstances.

    #8 is a real one. Most of my massage clients have lower back pain that's caused because their hip flexors or pelvic floor are weak and their glutes are tight from being weak or over contracted. As you gain strength you can begin to work on your mobility to get more pain free range of motion.
    Seeing a physio, osteo, massage therapist etc. can really help if you don't know where to start or what to focus on. Their treatments typically will relieve pain in order to do the exercises without being restricted by the pain you might normally be experiencing, IT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM! Any hoodless hope this helps.

    The staring part is true. So when you are at something that is near you (phone, book, laptop, etc.) some muscles in your eyes are contracting. If you do that for a long peroid of time you are basically causing fatigue and you can notice that when you go to look up, everythings blurry. They have actually made some lenses that help you relax your eye mucles when you look at something near you by adding a bit of rx for reading only at the bottom of the lenses. I, personally use them (in particular the Eyezen) and have felt the difference.
    Great video btw, I like to just skip through vidoes like this or just read the comments; but I couldn't stop listening to this one.
