👁 About this video : The install for this is intimidating because you are not going back to stock, but working through it step by step, it was easy. It's not a hard project to do, but very time consuming and you have to be perfect on the cut. Removing the stock bumper is not hard, it took about 10/15 minutes. Switching over the wiring to the new bumper is straight forward. After that we spent about 4 hours measuring, cutting and getting everything prepared for the bumper. This has to be perfectly level and straight so by following our method you should be good. Then it was time to install the new bumper and get it bolted in. I will be adding some wire to the harness to extend it, just using similar gauge wire or larger will work and that shouldn't be too hard to do.

Looks like you're using a diamond cutting wheel and instead of a regular cutoff wheel. Diamond wheels are more for tile and other ceramic or stone applications. Bumper looks good!
I'm watching this video on my TV and that's exactly what I was going to say for comment
Looks nice, cant wait for someone to damage my rear bumper so I can order one.
Haha yeah I have definitely loved this so far! Looks like it could've been factory!
Nice job cutting and fitting. I'm surprised you didn't heat shrink all of those wires though. Tape will eventually start holding moisture.
I had all the tubes ready to go, but from soldering it made it bigger than the tubes I had, otherwise I would have.
I’ll tell you what you guys got my respect you tackle everything.
Thanks! It was intimidating but just taking it step by step made it a lot easier to do, not a crazy amount of work looking back!
I'm currently buying my first Taco and you guys inspire me with ideas. Awesome truck!!
That is awesome! Congrats! You will definitely enjoy the Tacoma! So much to do and so many different directions for the build!
Use heat shrink tubing next time for a better and moisture proofing the wire harness.
Can you time stamp where you saw that? I used heat shrink tubes on the wires for the hitch connection..
Your bumper really looks great and the added 4 inch clearance is really helpful for rock climbing and all your off-road fun.👌
I'll be filming a video on it offroad here soon! Can't wait to share how much better it is!!
Flux the wires before you solder. It’ll let the solder flow into the connection and you’ll have a much stronger and dependable joint. 👍🏻
Thanks for the tip, I've done it multiple times this way and it seems to do fine!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed you’re rolling the dice, but ok. The sharp edges and random strands will work their way through the heat shrink and tape eventually. If it came from the factory like that you’d be upset. Do it the right way or not, it’s your truck.
@@alshackleford7906 They won't come apart the way it is.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed you half assed your solder job and that’s obvious. If that’s the way you want to do it then do it, just stop trying to justify cutting corners when it’s so easy to do it right.
@@alshackleford7906 Honestly it's connected fine man, I don't see anything wrong with it, it works and not much more you can do. I'm sure it's not 100% off the text book, but that's what I did. I actually did flux the wires, but it's unnecessary in most applications.
Lots of vids on Tacoma upgrades. Downside is adding lots of extra weight reducing mpg and slowing it down. Not to mention adding massive tires that's not recommended by Toyota. Then people complain(not you) that Tacoma is under powered. My mostly stock SR v6 is plenty fast. I've taken it over several mountain passes to go skiing and some off roading and never felt it was under powered. Use it for what it was intended and it has plenty of power. Don't get me wrong I did add A/T tires. Tires that are recommended size and some minor aesthetic trim pieces. When adding larger tires it effects power because the rear gearing won't match the tire size.
That's all true, but I don't really care about the mpg as much and I haven't noticed it being underpowered with the larger tires so I don't know why people complain about that. I don't use this as a sportscar so I don't notice lack of power! I might be going up another size this year, but looking to regear the truck and see how that helps!
Impressive install. I'd never be confident enough to make those cuts. Final product is awesome!
Yea it was a little intimidating, but not bad after seeing how it looks!
Absolutely agree, it turned out perfectly.
Nice job, I bet you feel much better now and it was worth the money and time. Thanks for sharing.
This has been one of the best mods I could have done!! I have no clearance issues offroad so it's so much more capable now!
Bros four speed.... you do know we drive tacoma's right? 😆 😂 😆 😂 😆
Lol that’s cool you have one! I love the Tacomas!
For measuring use a board that is long enough to span the bed and overhang by 6 inches on side , and attach a 20 inch board.
That's pretty much what we did. Came out perfect as shown in the vid ;)
So I would in the future try and cut the plug back a little bit so just in case you ever need to use that as a repair pigtail. Also might want to upgrade your head shrink or get you a heat gun to try and help seal that heat shrink better. The way it looked that is a good place for water to get in and rust your connection up. As much as I like the bumper I don't think I could ever cut my truck up.
I'm not sure what you mean by using it as a repair pigtail, it's been fine and functional since I've installed it! It's been the best mod and great for offroading!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed the plug you cut off of the tag light plug where you wired up the new lights. Cutting it right at the plug makes it to where it can't be used again. I do love the look, but you have more courage than I do to cut my truck With the RH side damage I can see why. You are where I got my exhaust idea for my 2017 Trd Tacoma from.
@@johnredden8728 I use the plug all the time, it’s completely functional! Just needed to extend it to fit the new bumper location! But yeah it was a big project and happy with it! And that’s awesome to hear! I’ve had a few exhausts but it always nice to see videos on that helping others!
I had no idea David Spade drove a Tacoma. Very cool.
That’s about 4” added clearance... nice
Oh yeah! It'll be great for adventures!
I have a basic sr that someone backed into in a parking lot now I'm looking into my options for a fix
Oh wow! Sorry to hear that! There are plenty of steel bumper options if you don't want the high clearance route! I've seen some for around $400-600 if you want something basic!
Just finished the pick up for the bumper video. And boom the install just got uploaded. Great video. I really appreciate how you show how and teach a bit on each mod install.
Glad you liked it!!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed yeah i decided a while back i want a tacoma. Test drove a trd offroad last week and loved it. So until i get it im making a list of mods i want lol. And i love your videos showing how to do some of them. Other mods id like to do is upgrade sound system i love good bass. And to chip it for performance. If your thinking about it id love a video as im not good with electronics lol.
@@praiselordcthulhu2428 There's definitely a lot you can do with it, not sure if I'll be changing that electronics but we'll see!
full send on the rear bumper, sick!!!
Haha yeah!!
Very nice job on the cutting! Love these install videos. Keep them coming!
Thanks!! I'm just glad it was a level cut!
Looks good, nice job boys!
Thanks!
good job, dad. Thanks for the well done video. BTW cut-off disc are better for sheet metal.
Glad you enjoyed the video, I didn’t have any issues with the one I used. Seemed fine to me.
It looks spectacular.. Good work brother.. Is there anyway you can tell me what is the part number of the black plastic piece located under the taillight that has never been taped..thank you
I tried looking it up and I'm not sure what it's called to be honest! Maybe your local Toyota dealer can give you a number on that and then you can look that up to get it for less!
It's been a while, looking back at 2021, appreciate your different builds. what is new over on the East Coast?
Glad you enjoyed the videos! 2024 Tacoma is the next project to work on later this year!
Try using an actual metal cut off wheel not a literal one lol that blade is for cutting concrete and brick
This is all I had to use. So I made it work with what I had
I take it that your taco doesn't have the Blind spot monitor system and backup sensors... Dang.... I'm getting ready to upgrade my 2017 with aftermarket replacement bumpers and was curious on the removal of those monitors and any code issues... I'll find out soon enough!
The blind spot wasn't available on 2017's and I didn't get the tech package to have the sensors. Didn't need or want them. They make this bumper to accommodate the backup sensors! It will have cutouts for you to install them into this one! The blind spot is integrated into the tail light I believe or side mirrors so that shouldn't be an issue.
Great vid but please ya have to work on your wiring skills and really weather proving those connections. That heat shrink and tape isn’t gonna cut it. Ya truck might get automotive gangrene its not fun. Especially in humid climates. My advice is use high end heat shrink with the adhesive inside and maybe even some split loom for protection against rubbing...nice truck man 👍
Thanks for the comment, I've used these heat shrink tubes on other projects and it's worked just fine!
looks fantastic! Matches all the body lines real nice
That's the main reason I went with this one!
Nice job! Also, by just going down you were inadvertently using the file correctly. They only cut in one direction anyway.
Haha true, glad it worked out!!
At the beginning I was thinking this would be the bumper I get for mine but then I got to the cutting part haha. Looks super clean tho
Haha yeah! There was no going back after that! But I love it! The best bumper I could have put on the truck and I have no issues offroad with it! Definitely worth it if you hit the trails a lot!
Good thing u r working on the Takoma. When the Vette comes in I think the truck might be neglected
Haha possibly!
How'd you address the exhaust being so low as to fit under the original bumper versus the new?
I have a high clearance exhaust ;)
Looks great. One of my favorite high clearance bumpers for the Tacoma. Im looking for one myself now. Just wish the lead times weren't so long.
Yea that's the biggest thing about products like this but well worth it!
Awesome bro, the effort in the measurements paid off! That looks so good
Thanks a ton! It's been the best mod I've done so far!
Nice job, looks good!!
Thanks!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed you're welcome 🤜🏻🤛🏻
That bumper definitely gives that truck a much better look, if I ever do this to my truck I will call you guys 🤣 you guys are like pros at this
Dakota Hamilton haha. It’s an awesome look!
My question... Is they measured 21 inches from the top of the 2x4 or under that 2x4???
It's from the bottom of the piece of wood!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks!! It was 20 inches I re watched it alot. Have mine now and have to cut this weekend! Awesome how to thank u guys.
So my question is can the hitch be reinstalled? I still need to be able to tow.
The new bumper came with a hitch! I've used it and towed around 4500 pounds with it!
I been trying to replace my stock bumper but I need the hitch you doing a beautiful job congrats 👏
Thanks 👍 I have seen a lot of regular bumpers with hitches, but if you want more clearance, this is a great one to get!
If you want a high clearance bumper with a hitch you could get CBI's bumper they hide the hitch behind the license plate
@@look92vean98 I saw that as an option too, either one, they are both great!
Amazing job guys! Looks professionally done👍🍺
Thanks 👍
When you open the tailgate, does it brush against the bumper?
It doesn't! I was hesitant first time opening it, but even sitting on the tailgate or having my motorcycle in there, doesn't touch!
toyota financial is gonna be tight after seeing this one 😂
lol how so? I own the truck outright ;)
Look good think of get one then get one for front high clear bumper so can go over some rock without hit also can fit big tire under it
haha nice! I'm looking into a front bumper too at some point.
Maybe go back and try the same river crossing where you dinged your truck earlier and see how it clears that big drop now? Will be a nice reference!
I want to! But that area has got very sketchy since then lol
Man I wish I had the balls and confidence to do this to my 19 Tacoma trdpro voodoo blue! Great job looks awesome and done right!👍
Haha thanks, it was intimidating, but after doing it, I'd do it again!
Dude I’m such a fan. Look forward to ur videos more then most. Keep it up. Would love a blue vinyl patch for my truck. Just a suggestion. Make it happen lol
What would be the blue vinyl patch?
Bros FOURR Speed idk like a blue Tacoma shaped patch. I know a lot of guys that put patches all over their trucks headliner. Would be cool.
@@justingarnick6021 That would actually be pretty cool!
One thing to consider is the weight you are adding is rear of the axle which is why people only recommend you minimize the weight of objects in your rear. Lol. Also, remember the next mods you will do are adding a dual tire swing out as that will house your tire and possible Jerry cans. As doing a high clearance bumper and keeping the tire underneath is kids pointless. Nice vid and strong work.
I do have upgraded add a leafs which help with the weight, but I only added about 70lbs which is really insignificant I think. For the spare I'm just going to keep it, I don't plan on buying a true full size because to me that's a waste of money, so if I have to use this one, I'll have it! This was definitely a fun project though! Thanks for watching!
Where do u put new rear parking sensors?
I beleive you need to specify when you buy the bumper that you have parking sensors if you have them
Do u guys think the paint alone will be enough to stop the rust? Maybe re apply after a while? I don't wanna put black edge guard on silver
It's probably fine. Can always check it every now and then and use a wire brush if anything starts to rust
I like the stock better not a big fan of changing things on truck besides little more here and there
Fair enough, at least I won't dent the bumper anymore though, that's the main reason I did it.
It's nice to see the mods, but I love Toyota Trucks so much that it hurts me to see you guys disfigure this truck every chance you get...I have an idea...the next Toyota truck you buy, can you please give it to me before you Mod it?
I usually like to do mods that keep the stock look of the truck going, but this has been the best mod I've ever done! Also to fix the dent that I put in the side would have cost almost just as much to fix, so figured I didn't want that to happen again! Everyone has mods they like, but yeah the Tacoma is such a great truck!
So I convinced my dad to buy a 2020 off-road and for some reason he missed his g37 too much so he gave the Tacoma to me😂 There is so many mods I want to do to it but I’m going to have to wait until I’m out of college and have a career because these Tacoma mods are really expensive . Definitely want to do this bumper at some point. Thanks for making another great tutorial vid!
Glad you like it! Definitely plenty of mods for the Tacoma! I started small and worked up to these ones!
Great job👊🏼
Thanks! What kind of truck is in your profile pic!?
I watch many builds on video and this video tops the list for rear bumper installs... nice job, excellent detail, and thank you. Would you please share the video editing software you use to produce this? Thanks
I appreciate that!! The coolest mod I have installed for sure! And I use iMovie!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Thanks for sharing the editor. I have apple so I will download it. Thanks so much!
Nice work, gents. 👍
Thanks! 👍
Outstanding job! I'm always amazed at how you guys can do just about everything with your vehicles right in your own driveway and it always turns out great. I would have accidentally sawed through a tire and made a complete disaster out of the project.
Haha, It's nice that we've been working on the vehicles a long time to adapt to a new project like this, it was nerve racking some what cutting but glad it came out nice!
Nice work, have to check out that bumper looks so much better than the stock one
Thanks 👍 I've been really happy with this bumper setup!
Great video!!! Looks good! Is that y’all friend? Helping y’all out
You need to link this vid from the one where you busted your stock bumper on a trail.
I do have that as the end screen, but forgot to put it in the description!
What about the weight of the sheet metal that you are removing? The difference isn’t as great as just the difference between the bumpers.
The sheet metal was maybe 2lbs each. We had filmed that, but I think cut that out of the vid. So it was negligible weight.
How has everything worked out on the rear bumper? I am looking at relentless fab for a high clearance rear bumper with swing out tire carrier just wondering how you like it now that its been a while , would you recommend it? I am trying to decide between them and C-4 fab and possibly at the helm fab.
I love it!! Best mod I could have done! I've been offroad with it and I have so much clearance, it was worth it! And it looks cool haha..I'm glad I didn't go with the tire carrier because I use the bed a lot with the tailgate down, so if you don't have to worry about that and like the look go for it! I feel like all the bumpers are very similar, just based on the style you like. I like how the bed sides had the curve to them and not just a straight line.
great video! thanks for making it. my only critique is your solder job. did you use flux?
Yea we did! The rod that you saw was it.
Very nice and very clean. I'm was surprised to see how well the cuts cleaned up with the cutting weel of choice, because that looked like a concrete cutting weel and not a actual cut off weel which would have left a thinner and cleaner cut! But overall all I love the look and the video.
You have a good eye, of the wheels I had this seemed like the best one to use!
good job. i have to do my 2021 zr2 now.
Best mod I have ever done on a truck!! I love the function and the look! I have so much clearance now on the trails!
Does anyone just sit here and rewatch this video? If so please answer this, is the towing capacity the same? Or is that the sacrifice?
Towing is just the same! The bumper is still bolted to the frame just like the stock one and I towed our 4500 lb boat just fine with it! Best of both worlds!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I appreciate the reply! Thank you for your time.
Yeah man that looks solid
Appreciate that!
That looks great!
Thanks! It was definitely a big project, but I love how it turned out! Makes offroading easier lol!
Nice mod bro! Looks amazing. What size edge trim guard did you use? 1/8 edge?1/16 edge?i’m doing that soon on my 18 Tacoma. Thanks in advance!!!
Honestly I don't know! I've only seen it in one size so whatever is the "regular" size for it!
Looks nice. Good Job
Thanks! Working on a brand new front bumper now! This was a cool project!
Do they make an aluminum bumper?
I don't think they do, but being only like 60 or pounds more, I'd take this just for that durability!
And where did you get it
I have the link to relentless fabrication in the description!
Where did you get the bumper from?
It's from relentless fabrication! I have their website in the description!
Great job on the bumper! I really like the vinyl decals too! Gives it that Raptor look
Thanks! That wasn't too bad of a project especially comparing it to this one!
I would love to get one of these but I have backup sensors and they are very flimsy. Has anyone had success taking them off without breaking them?
I watched the Victory 4x4 guy take his sensors off to put them in a bumper, I don't think he had any issues with that, but I'm not sure. I would hope it's easy to switch them over.
Thank you for sharing.
It was the best bumper to install in my opinion!
What kind of blade did you use?
Only one I had lol. But i'd recommend a metal cutting wheel
Very well done video, looks great on the truck!
Appreciate that! Can't wait to test it offroad! It's already make a huge difference!
Great video. I am waiting on my Relentless bumper with the tire swing out carrier to arrive in OCT. . Ordered the bumper and swing back in July. Course my measurements will be different as I am installing it on a 2011 TX Pro Edition. Your install video will help me get mine installed. Thanks for making the video. \m/
Just make sure to measure measure measure lol, I spent a good amount of time on that and glad I did because it came out perfect! Good luck with the install, it's a fun project!
I ordered mine back in May and just got it last week, but you never know
I know this is changing the subject but is the Vette on time for production?
It might be delayed slightly, but hopefully 2 weeks or so, I am very ready to have it!!
Sweet looking bumper. I am new to your channel and I have learned a ton. Plus it's also a great way to spend your social distancing. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks for checking out the channel! And yeah great project for sure!
Looks awesome and honestly the best looking rear bumper on the market but I’m biased, I’m running their front bumper.
How long was the wait time for the rear?
I think I waited about 3 or 4 weeks, but they happen to have one, just needed powder coating otherwise it might be a little longer.
What tow hitch did you guys go with?
The hitch came with the bumper! I've used it to tow a 4500 lb boat and it works just like the factory one!
You guys do such nice work. You make it seem so easy ,but we don't see all the added work. Haha.
Honestly, that added weight distribution will be nice. I think you will notice it handles and feels better with the weight in the back, because it won't be so light and feel like it's swinging around, esp on windy days. This was fun to watch. 👍
Thanks 👍 I think I have noticed it not being as bouncy in the rear which is nice.
Looks great! Mine should be here in a few weeks. Can't wait!
Oh nice!!
Looks amazing. Great job guys. Hope you are well in these crazy times. God bless you both and thank you for the great content.
Glad you enjoyed it! And stay well also!
Bros FOURR Speed i sure did. Thank you.
Damn guys freaken awesome awesome job on the installation of the high clearance rear bumper. It actually looks like it was purchased with that bumper already installed by the dealership
Thanks! I love how it turned out! Can't wait to hit the trails and test it out!
Hi did you fix your bumper
The high clearance bumper was the fix..what exactly do you mean?
I love it but You didn’t paint your body cuts which is gonna lead to rust
I actually did paint them, it's in the video.
Love the new bumper!!! It looks a whole lot better than before!👍
Thanks! I was ready to fix that dent and this was the cheaper solution so that works with me!
the rear of your tailgate is that a decal where it says tacoma or an actual piece that you put on with 3m?
It's a piece with 3m on the back, start at 8:41..ua-cam.com/video/IE3u7cIiYlc/v-deo.html
Nice video! And good on you guys for actually soldering!
I wanted to do this right since I tow every now and then, I didn't want that acting up on me! So far so good!
Que buen video ii trabajo isieron 👏👏👏👏👏
Gracias!
Looks really dope how it cuts in like that, perfect fit for sure.
Oh yeah!
Do they have this bumper for a Tacoma with parking sensors
I believe they do, just the website to see the options!
Looks awesome!
enjoyed the video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job guys!
Thanks! This was a cool project for the Tacoma and I've loved having this bumper! It's been great for offroading!
Tons of props for doing it yourself! Looks good!
Thanks! It was a fun project!
Damn that look really good. Really thinking about that for my Tacoma now
Haha yea! I love how it turned out!
Great video guys!! Where did you get the trim molding that you used after cutting the plastic?
I actually had some left over from a different project, but you should be able to buy some at Lowes or Home Depot or any auto store!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed what is it called?
@@mmunoz5875 I'd say door edge guard, something similar to that.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Thanks brother, much appreciated 🙏
