      How many levels of feeling can you express once you already hit the guitar as hard as you can? Advice of a novice! Get real, yo, Taaleek's "Jesus Look theory" is obviously the true mainstay of the technique.

    After you finish an artist series, you should jam using all of the techniques to see how close you can get to sounding like the artist.

    You miss one important: reggae strumming. A typical example is the bridge of Can’t stop. He muted all the downstrokes and only plays the upstrokes. It gives a rly chilling vibe. The technique is also featured in the outro of Under the bridge

    Excellence! You are a true Master of the Electric Guitar! As one of your dedicated students and subscribers and a player for over 56 years, I’ve watched all of your lessons numerous times with growing respect. The overall vibe for me in “Your Guitar Magic” (and by no means the only thing) is your genuine and readily apparent lifelong love affair with and respect for the Electric Guitar. The excitement and love you continually and naturally express are obvious in your your playing , emotionally speaking, and is absolutely genuine and well expressed in your instruction. I love how you successfully capture great legendary players’ styles and are able to pass those styles succinctly and coupled with all of your personal Guitar Magic directly to your students. Anyone with just a little bit of experience knows that you have and continue to put tons and tons of personal time and work and rehearsal effort into your own learning. Then you capably distill famous players’ styles and skills and present the style as opposed to teaching songs or riffs. This is absolutely difficult if not impossible for most. This magic, your magic, enables your electric guitar students that have the vision to develop their own style (as opposed to simply learning songs and riffs) by learning and understanding how others express themselves “technically with emotion” and letting that style affect how they develop their own style. One sweet example you share in this video lesson about Frusciante is where you are able to express “his emotion” in his vibrato with several fingers on several strings up the neck. So seemingly simple on the surface (but not really) and you captured that “technical magic” and expressed it so well to me; I was jamming last night with some friends and found myself trying to use a little of that technique with my personal “emotional vibrato” in my playing. So cool!! Yes indeed! You have reignited my love affair with the EG. Keep up the Excellence and🙏 thank you!!

    I didnt know you made a frusciante episode!!! Man, he is the greatest guitar model for me and he is my motivation to keep learning how to play. I think you really captured some of his sounds and did a great job explaining. And now that i listened to you breaking down his techniques, songs sound clearer to me. Btw listen him play 19. Jam at the end jam of 2006 chorzow consert. You can really hear the techniques you talked about!!

      I reckon he so thoroughly found his voice with guitar - think about how amazing niandra lades is with just a clasical guitar and a tape recorder - that there wasn't any further to go. So a new medium had to call. I can;t blame him for quitting RHCP because for him that journey had gone as far as it could go.

    It's pretty good for me to revisit his style. I was in a freaking mood of playing, kinda his way, in 2014-2017.But after a long break and many downs in life, including hearing loss gettin' worse, I choose to came back to understand this style again. And man are my fingers weak if I try to doin' the shredy solo end of dani california or turn it again. Your Video here is a pretty good recap amd refresh🙂

      Dave Simpson literally goes over the theory John uses, the tone, the way scar tissue is made and how you can make a scar tissue like song, he teaches you how to come up with embellishments for the songs and how to solo the music, is it "practical" maybe not but it certainly improved my playing and my ability to make music by miles

    I can understand that using thumb and middle finger is easier to play. But pick is the key to get the tone of Scar Tissue. In the riff you can hear something like gnawing. That’s because his uses the pick to hit the two strings amid (muted). Also, don’t strum it hard, do it mildly, just like quickly going through an arpeggio. Then you ll get the magic scar tissue tone: clean yet dirty, warm yet despair. Also, Frusciante never does hybrid picking. It’s just stupid: your pick hits the low string and your finger hits the high string, which makes the low F sounds louder

  • @IGotSoupProductions
    @IGotSoupProductions 4 роки тому +7

    This is a good academic way to explain his playing but I think you really missed out on the essence of his punk rock and funk influence that he brought to RHCP. There are a lot more percussive aspects to his playing that you would call "crude" or "sloppy" but it's a very purposeful sound. He's stated before that he likes to vary his attack and sets up his strats with different actions to play a certain way for certain songs. It's sort of the opposite of proper technique because it's intentionally inconsistent to add nuance and character to his playing.
