My mom used to pile all the pie scraps and roll out the scraps. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and roll it up like a nut roll, bake and slice. Nice memories 😢
I learned how to make fried chicken exactly like you describe doing it with the exception of peanut oil. I learned using lard. I am 62, learned from my mother who learned from her mother. They came from southeastern Kentucky. I treasure every moment spent with my mother. I pray we get a second chance in heaven to let our loved ones know just how much they were loved while God allowed them to be on His earth. Ms. Lori you are loved.
Ms. Lori I wish I could give you a big hug right now!!! Because of you, I made strawberry jam today for the first time ever and it turned out amazing! You are so encouraging and your videos are easy to follow and you take it step by step as if you are right here with me. I can't tell you how much joy it has brought to me today. I kept repeating your words in my mind, " take your time and if you make a mistake it's ok", I always trust you for the best advice and I just want you to know how much I appreciate everything you do. I know this doesn't have much to do with this video, but I needed to share my day with you and let you know how special and what a blessing you and Pa are to me. I love you and Mr. Brown and hope you have a blessed weekend.🫂❤😀
Hi Miss Lori, you have just made some good food that is fit for a KING!! Oh my goodness, you are awesome!! Yes, yes I would l would love to see a video about meat pies. God bless you and Mr. Brown!!❤️🙏🏻
Ms. Lori, this is how I learned to fry chicken and pork chops. My grandmother taught my mother and mom taught me. And the white gravy with the mashed potatoes....YUMMY!! Thank you for the reminder. You and Mr. Brown are livin' right, and it your channel is my absolute favorite.
My grandmother, my mother and I all fry our chicken just like this. We don't let it sit in buttermilk or batter it with eggs. Simply dip in flour, season with salt and pepper and pan fry. So delicious, but for some reason, my Grandma's chicken was the best of all of ours.

I love growing Herbs! I love to smell them and the Mint is delicious! This is how all us southern women fry chicken. Salt, pepper and flour and put in a pan of hot grease or lard! I like using lard but its gotten so hard to find. I don't get enough fat to render down anymore! Can't afford it and our pig farmers are hanging on to what they have for harder times n family! Nothing as good as homemade fried pies no matter what kind you make! That's the way my Mama and family, neighbors, or anybody I ever knew made their crust! My mouth was watering so bad when I saw the pear preserves! I love to eat them in pies, biscuits, on toast, English muffins or by them selves! Love to sop my biscuit in the juice! Absolutely delicious. I grew up on homemade and lived homemade. With 13 of us, we were just simple plain ole poor country folk and at 67, I'm still that way! One thang for sure, we had love, happiness and Jesus in our family! Can't get no better than that here in the mtns of Ga... Thank you Miss Lori.. Happy Fathers Day Mr Brown! Love and Prayers to y'all.. God Bless. 🙏🙏❤❤
Hi Ms Lori… my favorite food videos are always about homemade dough of some kind. I remember watching my Granny Daisy making & rolling out dough for biscuits or dumplings & she’d give me a lil ball to play with. I was in my glory! You & Mr Brown are such wonderful down to earth people & I love y’all! GOD BLESS! 🙏♥️
I still give my grandson a dough ball...he even made an erupting volcano once with baking soda and a few drops of vinegar and food coloring! Now that he is older, he'd rather be rolling and cutting biscuits or dumplings, but he will still play with a ball of dough. 💙
Miss Lori my mother made fried pies all the time. My Dad was a coal miner here in southwestern part of Virginia, and mother would make fruit pies and meat pies. Daddy would take them to work in his dinner bucket. My Dad’s mother or Mama as we called her, made the best fried chicken. It was like she had magic hands, every thing she cooked was mouth watering delicious. And when I watched you making fried pies and your grandmas fried chicken, the memories of those Sunday’s at Mamaw and Papaws house came pouring over me. Thank you and Mr Brown for all you do to encourage and teach people of all ages on how to live a sustainable life, whether you have just a plot of land or 10 acres of land, any thing is possible but you have to be willing to work at it. Mr Brown I wish you a very Blessed Happy Father’s Day.
I just noticed 401 thousand!Yay!Yay!Yay! So happy for you, and I hope your channel continues to grow,I know that it will!Looking forward to how you spend your retirement. I hope you don’t retire from YT!
I just recently found you and I have been binge watching your episodes. I love you guys! My mama passed in February of 2023, after 11 years of my caring for her with Dementia. At the end she did not know me, which was so sad. But watching you reminds me of how she used to cook when I was growing up and beyond. I am 70 years old and I had lost much of the cooking skills my mama taught me. You are rekindling my love of cooking and reminding me of many of the recipes I used to make. Thank you so much for all you do and I hope you continue for many years.
Miss Lori this brings back so many memories. My grandmother would make fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans or corn with rolls an fried apricot pies on Sundays. I miss her so much an she help raise me.!! Happy Father's Day Mr. Brown!! Y'all have a blessed weekend!!
Buttermilk brine will make the chicken super tender and it also adheres the flour to the chicken for a wonderful crust. I love Miss Lori’s videos. They warm my heart. It just makes me miss my childhood so, but in a good way. God bless you Miss Lori and thank you for sharing your life with all of us.
Here in Michigan as far as meat pies go. We have a thing called the Patsies the originate out of upper Michigan. We call the U.P. and they have meat in it, Rutabagas, potatoes. A lot of people put different things in it, but that's usually the main ingredient. Little bit of gravy. Very delicious. That's my remembrance of meat pies and all. There's tons of different versions out there, but they are great. They're one of my favorites. They're absolutely delicious! I would love to see you Do another meat pie recipe that'd be awesome!. I love this version as well. God bless you guys!
Buttermilk acts a tenderizer for the chicken and that's why My late beloved G'Ma always marinated her chicken pieces in Buttermilk for a few hours or overnight before flouring them and pan frying them . Always made for a delicious yummy crispy crunchy crust !
OMG!!!! My Grandma use to take leftover pie crust and put jelly or cinnamon and sugar in strips and nothing went to waste. We could hardly wait for it to come out of the oven. Great memory. Thanks for sharing and bringing forth old memories. I'm 70 and can still remember her kitchen and love.
Thank you Mrs lori & Mr.Brown for another great video ! I truly appreciate all the hard work you put into your content . God bless you both Mrs josette Tharp Montgomery County, Texas 🙏

My mom always made rice and country gravy with fried pork chops. It was one of my favorite meals as a kid. I still love to make it myself. There's nothing like country gravy made with those crispies from the bottom of the fry pan! Fried pies......goodness! I, like my mom and my grandmother, add some corn starch to the flour for extra crispness and double flour the chicken. We never forget the small amount of cayenne pepper, too. It does something to the chicken that makes it delicious. Lol. Love all your recipes......they bring back wonderful memories. ❤️

My mom made a pot roast pie that she called a meat pie..... basically leftover pot roast, potatoes, carrots, onion and gravy covered with a crust that was a cross between biscuit and pie crust baked like a cobbler. So good on a cold day.
I was born in Kentucky and my grandma had chickens. On Sunday mornings she would get up early kill and dress a chicken and fry it up for dinner after church. Talk.about fresh...... and it was delicious. She always saved the pulley bone piece for me. Love those memories. Love from.Missouri
I would love to see a video using meat and potatoes in a hand pie. I’d love a hand pie like that. Hopefully you’ll have time to do that soon… That’s kinda what Hot Pockets are… homemade would be so much better.. Thank you… Happy Father’s Day to Mr Brown. ❤

Thank you for reminding me of my Mamaws and my Mom’s cooking, I so miss them and their love shown in the delicious dishes they prepared for our family. My TEXAS Mamaws never knew anything but hard work but their homes were full of love and I loved staying with them and helping in their kitchens with my Mama. My Dad’s Mom made the very best fried chicken in her cast iron skillet every Sunday for our dinner (lunch) after church. My Mom’s mother would let me help snap fresh green beans from her garden on her front porch in the summer and my Papaw would bring us fresh small round watermelons he grew for our dessert. The very best memories are these simple ones that were the fruits of their hard labor. PRICELESS! ❤❤❤
Thank you Miss Lori! I just picked all my basil from the garden...I have 4 different kinds and wondered if you ever tried the Cinnamon, and Opal, which may be your purple basil? My favorite is the Thai! So good in your homegrown salad! Normally I use my dehydrator but I watched your video again yesterday evening and did what you did...hung the bundles from my kitchen ceiling fan! Smells so good! I love your place, looks so welcoming and a home of love and peace. May the good Lord continue to bless you both with all His provisions and watch over your health and home! God bless! 🙏 ❤

Ms. Lori, Many Thanks to you. For years I've heard about cast Iron skilletFried Chicken yet I had no clue regarding the flour ingredients and most importantly the frying/cooking time w the lid in place. You absolutely transformed my life today! God Bless you and your family.

I didn't know preserving herbs was so easy. I have a lot of basil, thyme and rosemary to dry. I have tons of houseplants so the herbs hanging around will fit right in. Thank you Miss Lore, Melaney from SoCal
The fried pies do look perfect, perfectly delicious! The chicken looks so good. My grandma, my mama and I all salt and pepper our chicken, coat in flour and we fry it in shortening in a cast iron skillet. It might not be the healthiest method but it sure is delicious! That makes me crave some fried chicken. God bless you and Mr. Brown and your family.

My stress level kinda goes away when I watch your videos 😊. I loved watching the fried pies come together and that delicious plate of fried chicken, rice and gravy and peas and carrots. You just can't get much better than that. ❤

Oh Lori my goodness this meal has my mouth watering so bad! Fried chicken is absolutely my very favorite food and I’m a Texan who loves rice and gravy. You hurt me tonight, Sister 🤣😂🤣😂
My mom and grandma always made the best fried chicken like you did. Brings back great memories. the hand pies look sooo good, yum! I’ve got mint and lemon balm that I need to harvest. I’m going to hang some in my kitchen now! Blessings and Love!
Oh my gosh Miss Lori…you brought back a memory from the days of going to see our great grandma. We would travel to see her about 3 times a year and every time we drove in the drive there would be 3 chickens hanging on the clothesline bleeding out. When we went inside for the first greeting of the visit her house ALWAYS smelled of an Italian restaurant. She didn’t have a fancy home and 9 kids filled her house to the brim but she wanted us all to sit by her feet on the floor and “tell our story” and after 9 great grandchildren were finished like magic dinner was ready…she never left her rocker but somehow dinner got done and to me that was so amazing. The only other thing I remember about Great Gramma was that she always wore a hairnet. Oh my but those were the days! Thanks for stirring up the memories…priceless!!!:):):)
I remember as a kid every Sunday we had fried chicken dinner with the works🥰 and a coconut cake for dessert so delicious 🥰my mom fried chicken the same way you fried yours so yummmmmy🤗 Thank you for sharing your recipes 🙏🏽God bless you❤️
I could listen and watch your videos all day!!! I’ve learned so much from you! You explain detail to detail in all your videos. Your voice is so calming. Thank for all you do for us !!

I just watched your video with the Q and A. Thank the Lord that you've always enjoyed cooking and WANTED to. Your children needed it back in the day and others wouldn't know how. You were blessed.
Hey, Miss Lori 💚💗. I love your herbs hanging around! My grandma always had her own chickens and wrung their necks, dipped them in hot water, plucked them, singed them, gutted them and cleaned them up. Quite a process! My mama always used whole chickens and taught me how to cut one up getting the pulley bone out. She just used SR flour, salt and pepper on the chicken and everyone thought my mom’s chicken was the best, and it was ❤. Love your fried pie dough recipe!!!

Tell your neighbor (and you also) to put a chunk of Irish Spring in an old sock and hang it on the fruit trees and garden and the deer will stay out because of human smells. Works in our peaches.
My family is from Indiana. My maternal grandmother loved to cook. If she was in the kitchen, she was coolin'...and hummin'! Always while she was cookin'. She never measured anything. Well, the Indiana state pie is Sugar Cream Pie. She made the best! Her leftover pie crust always got baked with sugar and cinnamon. Us kids enjoyed that as much as the pie.
These recipes brought a big smile to my lips, also your plants are some of the prettiest I have ever seen, love your garden plants and spice plants, they are Beautiful.
My grandmother made pie crust with cinnamon and sugar out of the leftover dough. She called her meat pies hobo pies. She also made fruit hand pies. Sometimes she would have juice left over from the fruit and she would make a syrup to pour over the pie.
My mom used to pile all the pie scraps and roll out the scraps. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and roll it up like a nut roll, bake and slice. Nice memories 😢
My mom did similar only didn't roll it up. She was raised in Raleigh NC..
My mother did also .. thanks for the memories ❤️🤲🙏🏻🕊
@@rainicascadia5514 I liked how she did that, because even the scraps looked nice. She would dust with powdered sugar on top.
My Aunt did this for me. She made the best pie crust ever. Thank you for sharing .
Amazing memories ❤
Great video Ms. Lori. Loved it. Those pies did look delicious. 💞

I just love the white with blue stripe mixing bowl you made your dough in - love watching you cook - so homely.
Thanks so much
Thank you for reminding me of my Mamaws and my Mom’s cooking, I so miss them and their love shown in the delicious dishes they prepared for our family. PRICELESS! ❤❤❤
Yummy on the pear preserve hand pies Mmmm. 😋😋😋🙏❤🙏❤🙏
God bless! 🙏 ❤
Thank you

Mmm Mmm .. Sunday fried chicken dinner & fruit pie for dessert. We were poor, but sometimes we savored farm chicken.

Mom let us roll out the scraps and use cookie cutters and sprinkles. Yummy 😊
I didn't know preserving herbs was so easy. I have a lot of basil, thyme and rosemary to dry. I have tons of houseplants so the herbs hanging around will fit right in. Thank you Miss Lore, Melaney from SoCal
Thank you SO MUCH! I would love to see meat pies too!
You have a beautiful place enjoy watching you cook and can as I use to do
Sure enjoyed my time watching your day at the cabin. Loved it.
LOVE your new intro!!
I agree with everything you said about growing and drying your own herbs! Such a satisfying homemaking activity and the end results so yummy.
Just praying that you and your family are safe!

My stress level kinda goes away when I watch your videos 😊. I loved watching the fried pies come together and that delicious plate of fried chicken, rice and gravy and peas and carrots. You just can't get much better than that. ❤
Thats sweet we appreciate you so much
They look so good! I made them when I was younger with canned biscuits! I know homemade dough is better.
Blessings ❣️❣️

I so enjoy your videos. Your voice is so motherly. Thank you for researching me how to really feed my husband.
My mom made those Krispies after making pie too! Us kids just loved them❤. What great memories ❤!
We always waited for those cinnamon and sugar pie crust trimmings when I was a child. So great!
I love you guys. So refreshing to see true love and an easy style life. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You make my days!
Now, I know I'm going to start growing more herbs. I've got two big rosemary. I've use it for roasts. The deer don't like them either!💗👍👏
Oh Lori what a great video! Thank you for sharing ❤
Oh Lori my goodness this meal has my mouth watering so bad! Fried chicken is absolutely my very favorite food and I’m a Texan who loves rice and gravy. You hurt me tonight, Sister 🤣😂🤣😂
Those pies look so good. Thanks for reminding us that they don't have to be perfect.
My mom and grandma always made the best fried chicken like you did. Brings back great memories. the hand pies look sooo good, yum! I’ve got mint and lemon balm that I need to harvest. I’m going to hang some in my kitchen now! Blessings and Love!
Would love to see the meat pie video! And this recipe looks great!
Miss Lori! Everything looks so delicious. Thank you and God bless. Love you❤
I learn something new every time I watch your videos. I thought self rising flour was a modern invention.😮

I just watched your video with the Q and A. Thank the Lord that you've always enjoyed cooking and WANTED to. Your children needed it back in the day and others wouldn't know how. You were blessed.
Thanks so much
Hey, Miss Lori 💚💗.

So peaceful and wholesome living! Love and hugs and God's blessings to ya'll
Tell your neighbor (and you also) to put a chunk of Irish Spring in an old sock and hang it on the fruit trees and garden and the deer will stay out because of human smells. Works in our peaches.
Love listening to ur calming voice during your videos…❤
My family is from Indiana. My maternal grandmother loved to cook. If she was in the kitchen, she was coolin'...and hummin'! Always while she was cookin'. She never measured anything. Well, the Indiana state pie is Sugar Cream Pie. She made the best! Her leftover pie crust always got baked with sugar and cinnamon. Us kids enjoyed that as much as the pie.
These recipes brought a big smile to my lips, also your plants are some of the prettiest I have ever seen, love your garden plants and spice plants, they are Beautiful.
Your herbs are so healthy and gorgous. I agree, mint tea is so refreshing iced!
I love watching you cook. Thanks and enjoy your weekend!
Beautiful channel.. I watch on my tv but I had to send you my thoughts… love what you provide…💜💜
I appreciate that
I love everything that you do!! God bless you & your family ❤✝️
My grandmother made pie crust with cinnamon and sugar out of the leftover dough. She called her meat pies hobo pies. She also made fruit hand pies. Sometimes she would have juice left over from the fruit and she would make a syrup to pour over the pie.
