Lukewarm street beers rule. Sometimes I go hang out with the dude that stands in front of the liquor store. Can never understand the word he says and he's got scabs all over his nose. He's drunk from the time he wakes up from the time hepasses back out and wakes up and gets drunk again.
I love seeing people experience Sierra for the 1st time. I know this is 4 years old, but I’ve been watching her for a while and it never gets old seeing people experience her for the first time.
Sierra is actually from W.V, believe it or not. Her brother was my 1st boyfriend lol & back then she was a little girl. She was in a band 600lbs of sin with a guy I also grew up with, Josh T. & they're both (individually & together) seriously undiscovered pure magic! She was living in New Orleans last I heard, not sure about now, I think shes touring & recording an album or 2 which is AWESOME bcuz man! Her voice is something we havent heard in decades!🙌❣🎶
@ryanbyrd3022 you gave me one too ryanbirdart on my back for my 21st birthday @bent Schrader too funny u of all ppl wld comment bcuz I have 2 tattoos and u did 1 of them 😆& ofcourse u cldnt possibly remember us all
Love that tune, especially his version....But Tod plays banjo, right? Would love to see a guitar teacher try to explain that. Not being sarcastic....I'm a guitar player and the banjo is a mystery to me.
Its time to re-visit Sierra and check out something from her recent liver performances. She's got herself a super tight, very solid band and you can see her genius coming through in being a band leader. It's a spectacular show. I credit this reaction video for introducing me to Sierra. Thank You Michael.
Talk about off the beaten path. I traveled all over Virginia for business over 28 years and visited Galax exactly once. Grayson County was still dry then (don’t know about now). Went to a bar/restaurant in Galax called the Broken Wagon Wheel or something like that. Seemed pretty rough - I don’t stay long.
Glad you found and like Sierra Ferrell, you will be hearing a lot more of her in the near future. She is incredible. My personal favorites are “Made like that and “The sea”
Hahaha so cool to literally watch you fall in love with that woman by the end of that first verse the same way I did when I first found her 😂😂😂 Cool shit man, glad you chose to check her out 👍🏼
That was jaw dropping good. Your enthusiasm for it is so fresh. Most people would pass this by and not wait enough time to show how cool this is. I love these videos you’ve been doing and it is quickly becoming my favorite thing on the internet in general. Thanks brother, keep them coming.
This is awesome and so pure. Love the layering of the guits n’ vox. Another great artist I’d never heard of until your channel. I’m surely gonna check out her other music. Thanks, Michael.
I usually shy away from reaction videos, but you did a good job on this one. I liked the theory breakdown on the chords and what was happening throughout. I need to watch again a few times for sure, but this was great. thanks.
I'm absolutely blown away by your skill; it's incredible how quickly and easily you're able to translate what you hear to the fret board. I'm definitely checking out your lessons. Also, spectacular run of artists you're reacting to of late.
Another blinder, what a great duo. It made me think of 'Striking Matches' - ' trouble is as trouble does, 1mic, 1 take. Not that it's the same genre, just bloody good like this one.
she's a fine guitarist but it's the voice that gets me, just the right mix of fire and honey I only came across her thanks to UA-cam a couple weeks ago but have been caught humming the lines as I work :-)
Sierra is incredible. Definitely checkout Lost Dog Street Band. September doves, terrible as true, to heaven from here, being back someday. They have so many good ones.
everyone else has pointed out Lost Dog Street band, and I know you are a guitar guy, but one of the most transfixing songs by Ben Tod is his banjo cover of The Mountain by Steve Earle. Gems on VHS is a gold mind of artists and songs, that project is well worth supporting
She used to live in my town, and play in a band called " 600 lbs of sin". She hung out with my son's friends. She definitely talented! Rumor has it that a certain Tyler Childers song was written about her, too.
You should really listen to "The tallest man on earth" he is a great picker, would recommend The tallest man on earth "Revelation Blues" - City of Music The Tallest Man On Earth - "What I've Been Kicking Around" (Live at WFUV)
Hittin all my favourite artists. I imagine you’ll be doing a Ben Todd song soon. Lovin your channel. I seen Sierra Ferrell last year in Sydney touring with Pokey LaFarge. She IS as dialled in live as this, nothing short of a wonder. Pitch perfect.
"Shit" i'am late have only just found her. so obviously she toured OZ hope she comes back. I be ready if the world get back to some sort of normality . would love if she teamed up with Paul Kelly ✌
FYI Tyler Childers song "Charleston Girl" is about Sierra. Give it a Listen. I remember when Sierra couldnt even play guitar. She is so talented and has come a long way over the past ten years.
Really love your channel. So glad you did a vid on Sierra. Found her a few years ago on Gems on VHS channel on youtube. She's from WVA. Keep going man! I like your passion teaching us the theory behind the sounds we love.
Thank you for this, I was just barring the D and doing the intro on that which sounds good with some picking. Also then Barring the G And A down the bottom of the neck.
If you dig this, Gems on VHS also has a session with Benjamin Todd, where he plays his song Using Again. He's also in the folk band Lost Dog Street Band, and they're very very good as well
I think she's from Carolina but I don't know for sure. she is touching, hunting, classic, with an old eery sound from a1920s album, one of a kind, mixing string band, bluegrass, and gossip keeping it old, with sound and tech quality modern.
Dude you are so on the right track of new artists! I want to add the most recent one I’ve come along, Nick Shoulders! He is some what of the same feather as Ferrell, you MUST check him out! I’ll put a link below
Need to check out that channel in general. Matt heckler, Benjamin Todd (they do some stuff together as well), lost dog, Willie Watson is on there as well as others it’s all raw real music. Great stuff.
Willie Watson's cover of Gallows Pole is outstanding. Definitely something to check out. I KNOW you know Gallows Pole, but its totally different vibe from the original.
She knows well how to play to an audience, even if its a camera and she's giving little looks. Years of practice, experience, and amazing natural talent on display.
Lukewarm street beers rule. Sometimes I go hang out with the dude that stands in front of the liquor store. Can never understand the word he says and he's got scabs all over his nose. He's drunk from the time he wakes up from the time hepasses back out and wakes up and gets drunk again.
Yup. I had a friend like that when I lived in downtown Baltimore. You sir, get the pin.

600 lbs. of sin is a line from a Grateful Dead song called Dire Wolf. Love that you have a connection to this amazing young woman.
So glad she beat her heroin addiction! So many young people don’t. Love her!
Thank you for sharing that!
I gave him a tattoo once. Sieriously, Her brother that is.

Id like to acknowledge the guy playing with her. His guitar gives this song much more
The second guitar player is Joseph Faison. He's an incredible banjo player: ua-cam.com/video/A40M5_vM06c/v-deo.htmlsi=vXsXmrcQkb-vcOeF
The jewel of WV! This woman dominated my music ingestion in 2022!
Benjamin Tod - The Mountain
It’s a cover but my god is it a masterpiece
Everything Ben does is gold.
is that the gentleman with a broken arrow on his neck?
John Smith it is
Love that tune, especially his version....But Tod plays banjo, right?
Would love to see a guitar teacher try to explain that.
Not being sarcastic....I'm a guitar player and the banjo is a mystery to me.
Ben is one of the most talented and underrated musicians in country real country music

Sierra Ferrell - Rosemary
completely different vibe than this one but her voice just fits into so many different feeling songs.
absolute must watch
one of my favorites hope he checks this one out
I especially love her performance of it at the Gladden House session here on UA-cam (timestamp @14:15)
Yup that's a dang good song
Sierra is from my home state of WV. She is amazing!
Yep, from Kanawaha County. WV. That is my home state too.
Huntington here !!!! Proud
I’m from Tyler County, that is so awesome she’s from WV. It’s even crazier that I share the same last name. I’m honored haha.
I love when we have good ambassadors of our state (i’m from martinsburg)
I heard her at a live venue once from another room in the establishment and her voice drew my ear like a magnet.
Sierra's from West Virginia. Raw and real. Love her stuff.
I have been trying unsuccessfully to turn my friends on to her. It's good to see I'm not the only one who digs her tunes.
Sounds like you need some new friends 😂
I'm 74 and she swept over me like a tidal wave. I'll learn as many of her songs as I can.
@@williameason1194 I am 65, live in Australia and I am a big fan to.
My buddy turned me on to her yesterday.... AFTER he just saw her last week in Memphis. My Bad Sierra. Never again. I'll be there next time:)
honorable mention to light foot tapping, mic'd just right.
I love the look of Appreciatetion you show as you listen the this marvellous talent. Shows a true love of good music.
She is unreal. I’m so glad I got to hang out with her in the beer line after she opened for a shakey graves show.
She's amazing God bless her 👏👏👏
She is amazing. Set on the front row last year in Asheville mesmerized the whole time.
I found her surfing youtube about 2 months ago.... just totally taken it and hooked.
The sounds they get from them funky old Kays!!!
Literally any of the gems on vhs artists will be good. That site is a gold mine. Check out Benjamin Todd or lost dog street band
MrRoboto I’d pay to upvote this 100 time. Lost Dog hits DEEP. Excellent song writer and even better story between Ben and Ashley.
Yes please!
Leave link to something!
ua-cam.com/video/FI214Jezxxw/v-deo.html this one isnt Benjamin todd but goddamn is it good. I would love to see a vid on this
He has covered Benjamin Tod before, I'm not 100% sure about The Lost Dog Street Band, but yeah
Love it. They come out of everywhere, except LA.
i love sierra
Absolutely enchanting..... A Fine specimen..
I love sierra sm. I’m also from wv and her music takes me back from when I was a kiddo.
She's amazing. So talented and authentic.
I'm from Sweden and love Sierra Ferrell and her music, saw her on a Swedish program from Nashvill, "Jills Veranda"
My favorite female country singer.. so raw and soulful
Just saw her plaay in Galax, Virgina and she has one of the best voices in all of country music imo. So thoroughly appalachian.

I want to see the reaction of Billy Stings cover of “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright”
ME2🙉🙈🙊🐱🐈
She has the most spectacular voice. I can listen to it all day. But also. incredible musicianship. This lady and her band should be stars.
The dude playing with her met her playing at a Legion either in W.V. or Tennessee and has been with her ever since.
she is so dope glad u found her

Thank you very much. This is helping me develop my own taste, and theory. God Bless.
Great comment here. I've been playing for years and can honestly say she's done the same for me.
Another new one for me. I love this channel.
This is good stuff you do. It reminds me of when I was first learning guitar, and we would pick apart songs, bands, and albums for hours. Great stuff
You're going through bascially my ten most watched artists over the last year. Quite a few great artists on the GemsonVHS channel.
Definitely a solid group of artists on the Gems channel
Love some Matt Heckler and Benjamin Todd
@@nathanr3432 That version of "Blue Eyes Dancing" is one of my favorites. And Lost Dog Street Band is a hell of a group too.
Bopflix is good too. That's where I first saw Sierra do a solo version of In Dreams.
@@technoboarder27 I love Matt heckler so much 🥺
You have got to listen to rosemary by her that I feel in my opinion is a great display of her talents and the story told is something else

I'm glad someone is finally doing instructionals on artist that matter 😉
She is the real deal.
This song kills me. I tear up sometimes it's so damned beautiful. Love this girl.

Love the energy and genuine reaction! First time catching this channel but been digging Sierra Ferrel for a bit. Great energy and watch!
That look on your face is the same reaction most of us have had as we listen to SF
Sierra lives in Nashville. I love the positive genuine stoke you get from these. Makes my soul smile. You should do the song rosemary by her.
Another blinder, what a great duo.
It made me think of 'Striking Matches' - ' trouble is as trouble does, 1mic, 1 take. Not that it's the same genre, just bloody good like this one.

Of COURSE you covered her. I really love that you allow such a wide scope. Broad palette. As long as we can agree that Dr. Ralph Stanley rules…amen
Wow i love her..

she's a fine guitarist but it's the voice that gets me, just the right mix of fire and honey
I only came across her thanks to UA-cam a couple weeks ago but have been caught humming the lines as I work :-)
she's been one of y favorites for awhile now, so unique.
Love that you watched this. Simple music, beautiful music. I love guitar, but not everything needs to be guitar-nerd-good to be good.
I’ve come to say how I love the emphasis on the L and T of “Busch Light” at the beginning. That’s all.
i love this channel man
shes the best, big vibes
GemsONVHS and WesternAF are the two islands were all the good things are in store.
She's amazing. Doc & Merle Watson - Summertime. Merle goes off. Shout out Appalachia

I'm glad you said it was 2020, otherwise I'd wonder how Sierra Ferrell made this in the thirties, it's got that GREAT old sound to it.

"I hope you're in my dreams, the way you are... in and out of mine."

Lost dog street band. Either September doves or terrible and true.
Or When I Went Down To Georgia! My personal favorite by them.

September Doves is a favorite. Any song of theirs. Literally any. And the live versions
