    I got a 24-inch TV/VCR/DVD combo for free today. A Magnavox MWC24T6 from June 2005. The VCR didn't work at first, but after messing around with it, I managed to get it working again. Gonna gift it to my closest, personal friend for his birthday next week.

      You're a good egg! I recently came across a 19" Funai three-in-one CRT, and for $45, I was willing to attempt a mode select switch clean-up. Fortunately, however, the problem seems to have fixed itself, after repeated rewind and fast-forward cycles.

    I got another Funai-built TV/VCR combo recently. Symphonic WF0213C from June 2002. It wasn't working when I got it, but after messing around with it and sacrificing two tapes, I managed to get it (mostly) working again. Such a satisfying feeling giving these faulty devices another chance.

    Oh man. A Rugrats tape in a 19" TV/VCR combo. If that doesn't scream late 1990's "stuff at my friend's house", then I don't know what does.

    Enjoyed the video, but would have loved to have seen all the screws/cables that you have to remove to get the vcr unit away from tv. That is the one thing I needed to know how to do.

    These combos combine a CRT dust magnet and a VCR with precision components. It's no wonder they have problems. Meanwhile my standalone 1990 Sharp VCR has spotless mechanicals (although a belt started to slip.) Good job fixing what you have though. If you can find how to access the service menu you should be able to adjust the horizontal sizing.

      Why CRTs are dust magnits is that beacause of heating up componants?

    33:47 actually, the mode switch still may have needed some more thorough cleaning, I had a similar problem like that with an Emerson Funai made combo that did the same exact thing.

    I found a 14" Panasonic TV VCR from 1998. The VCR had nothing wrong with it except being very drity so cleaned VCR before I played tape and it worked perfectly. The TV was a Lowe hour set so the CRT has very good picture.

    You are very good at repairing. If you find older McIntosh hifi equipment that needs repairing, a lot of their amps and tuners sell for $1000's when working.

    I'm from Brazil and here TV/VCR combos are very rare, the only one I saw in my entire life was a little Sony Trinitron wich is even rarer lol. The TV part worked beautifully but the VCR was screwed up. It displayed "DEW" on the screen all the time, the drum kept spinning and the cassette door was always open

  • @SouthernGameNerd
    @SouthernGameNerd 4 роки тому +1

    In that mechanism, there is a common problem that may happen eventually, and that is that worm gear that controls the Camgear can jam, and it's going to keep doing it until eventually, the worm gear will break, meaning the VCR part will be totally busted and it will kill the TV (obviously known for Funai TV VCR combos).

    • @themaritimegirl

      This is good information! I have access to a third one of these with yet another broken VCR, so I'll pay attention to that when I get ahold of it eventually.

      @@themaritimegirl Also, my aunt has a TV VCR combo branded GE, with a Samsung mechanism, I don't think the VCR part ever got used, but I tested it, and it was acting weird, I already know what the problem is, it could be a dirty mode switch, and I'll also keep the grease in mind.

  • @und4287

    The reason why this TV has captions while the 9 inch one does not is because of U.S. regulations requiring built in caption support only on TVs 13 inches or larger, built after 1993.

  • @VENUEATHENS

  • @austinthevhsvideogamelover5265

    5:20 look at the loading motor and it is held by a cheap plastic piece that can get cracked easily due to aging. Some don't have that issue and these older mechanisms by funai are from 1993-2000. When this happens, the vcr will jam and that is,what causes the tape to be stuck in it and not come out and it gets pitched. But you can fix it by putting Krazy glue it it watch the vcr king's video about the funai vcr pulley issue to find out!

However if the tv is off I can put in the tape and it will actually play about 10. 20 seconds before it statics out and ejects the tape again.any ideas on what's wrong?

    What Year Did They Start Making TV/VCR Combos?

    • @themaritimegirl
      @themaritimegirl  2 роки тому +2

      TV sets with built-in Cartrivision (a failed videocassette format) VCRs were available for a short time in the early 1970s. Sony also made a Trinitron console with a built-in Betamax VCR in the mid-1970s.
      Beyond those, the common combo units that we know today appeared in the late 1980s.

    • @themaritimegirl
      @themaritimegirl  4 роки тому +1

      Because Philips has owned Magnavox since the 1970s, and in the 1990s they wanted to increase awareness of the Philips brand in North America, so they piggy-backed off the Magnavox name for a while.
      I'm not sure what's so horrible about that.

    I love your video. I have a 19 inch Funai combo unit and the tape loading mechanism is messed up. A tape barely enters and stops going in. With no tape I hear a motor starting run and then grinds down to a stop each time the TV is turned on. Shutting off the TV I hear a motor run and then stop. Unplugging the power cord I hear a motor run for a few seconds.
