Thank you so much for the absolutely excellent overview of the game! As usual, it's a pleasure to watch you weave a story from just a few rolls, and really make the setting your own. As for the number of encounters that's something that I agree with, actually, and the next edition of the game will have that adjusted. It is true though that Branded characters are killing machines, and if things get ugly you can just spend one Luck point (if you haven't already, of course) to simply avoid the encounter altogether. But yes, some of the numbers where too high, and they're being adjusted. Thanks again for your work!

I just picked this up, it’s on offer on Drivethru rpg right now, same price for the printed book as it would normally be for the pdf

Thanks for this look through. I picked up Sacrifice for solo play a couple of months back, but it fell off my radar since I was getting sucked into Starforged at the time

I never considered playing a solo rpg before, but then you did a video on starforged and I have been hooked. I've been told about a game called fallen its supposed to be a sorta solo game. I'll have to look if you have done a video on that.

Indeed I have done one on Fallen -and have talked about it a bunch too. It’s wonderful. My vid is here: ua-cam.com/video/AWjJDHepb_U/v-deo.html

This is a great video! I appreciate how thorough you are in it (as always). I have ordered both Sacrifice and its Companion book now as a result. I look forward to playing it when it arrives. But I agree about the monster balance in it: Yikes! It looks way off for a single PC. I'm going to try adding some damage-conversion rules from Scarlet Heroes asap to adjust for that. But I'm also interested to see here that an update to Sacrifice is going to rebalance it. Whatever works is good.

Good idea to use SH to adjust…. Glad you enjoyed the vid & thanks for the comment.

I missed playing tabletop RPG games for years now. I mostly do night work so doing stuff like that is hard. Bit my copy of Across a Thousand Dead Planets came not to long ago i am going to write up a short story and game events woth its rules (sort of dead space event) get my girlfriend to try it out with me abd have her so stuff and keep it more streamlined to ease her in. I am going to back Alexs current project tonight as well as get some this one for Christmas 😊 I am super into 3d printing have lots of models to print and have anyway plus many RPG stuff to draw from that suit this setting perfectly I can work in and if my girlfriend wants to try after the other game thst would be perfect 😁 also saw some of your links I will check out if everything goes well with the games thabks again.

I am now imagining a game that is nothing but a series of tables. I wonder if that would work?

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  Рік тому +3

Absolutely. That is essentially playing with no rule set at all. I have demoed that in some vids but can’t remember which ones! I may do so again in an upcoming vid showing more of the Tome of Adventure Design

Your reviews are the best. I've been searching through your past videos looking for mention of Gloomhaven. Have you done a review of it? If not, will you?

Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed this one. I don’t have Gloomhaven and don’t plan on getting it… just didn’t click with me.

@@GeekGamers01 I can see how Gloomhaven is not your style. You're incredibly creative and the hyper-programmed nature of Gloomhaven is very limiting. You would have virtually no control over game mechanics, the story, the characters and their builds, and so on. But up until I discovered your channel, my own attempts at solo RPG play were pretty feeble. Gloomhaven gave me many hours of fun, not overly creative fun, but still fun. Now that I've got your channel as a major resource, I am set!!

Have you ever tried Quest RPG? I've fallen in love with it for solo play for the simplicity of the mechanics.
Following the advice in your book I now never roll a character until I have a narrative trajectory firmly in mind. The selection of skills and abilities in Quest is fantastic because it has "learning paths" which function like skill trees, but linear.
Each specialism has a few learning paths. Fighter has: Duelling, Tactics, Leadership, Body and Cameraderie for example. Each of those paths has a series of abilities where you must learn one to make the next available.
For each role, there are multiple learning paths, so if you have 4 abilities to 'spend' you could take all 4 in fighter abilities, or one in invoker, one in doctor and two in ranger. Meaning whatever narrative you imagine for your character can be realised through the abilities you pick.
There are no stats and rolling always resolves on the same scale of a d20 roll with narrative consequences for poor rolling. It slots so easily into solo play. Also the core book is free in digital version. Unfortunately I can't get a physical copy because they have stopped shipping internationally.

I haven't heard of it but when I look it up online it is hard to see enough samples of the rules to know if I'd want to get it. What you describe sounds interesting, however. I didn't find a link to the free version of the core book. Can you provide one?
