    Thanks so much for the awesome review! This was a game I designed, wrote and laid out in a month so my goal was making something simple and not super exhaustive, assuming that most players would have tons of other D&D-related resources to pull from, hence the lack of some basic stuff such as a terrain generation tool. I'm planning on adding some ruin exploration rules in the next Companion, the first of which will be released together with the Tomb Robber starting occupation, which is going to be my entry for the currently running Sacrifice Game Jam. Again, thanks so much, this was a blast to watch!

      Just wanted to let you know I really love Sacrifice and am even trying to write my first suppliment for it for the game jam based on adding a mysterious Eastern Wanderer character archetype to play (since all souls games tend to have that one mysterious eastern character). I have been playing solo with hex maps and osr solo when I have some free time and it is very immersive. I look forward to all your future ideas for it.

      @@Naruga I really appreciate your words! I have tons of content planned for Sacrifice, but the OGL business has really complicated things. It's looking like I'll not be able to publish new content for it under its current incarnation, so most likely I'll need to re-release it without the OGL and some of the most D&D bits. Still 100% compatible with all OSR content, of course, and specially with all Sacrifice content.

    I picked up Sacrifice a month or so ago and really enjoyed reading through it. Very interesting OSR take in the dark fantasy vein, a nice set of rules and an engaging read. Definitely worth a look for people looking for something darker than your standard (dare I say boring) fantasy fare.

    I said I wasn't going to keep buying new game books without having read all the ones I have...but...this one is different! I'm so glad I follow this channel as I've gotten the heads up on so many good games and systems. The Incense element of this is so intriguing to me, and I'm thinking I'll become a incense guy as I sit playing this solo at my desk.

    Bestiarum Miniatures full of maps, story, fights to use to keep it simple for myself as well as 3d print off some of their minis (I have lots already) a perfect mix mostly :-)

    Always nice to see someone who appreciates light armour and a weapon that's too big to be called a sword. Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. Indeed, it's a heap of raw iron.

    I have given up on finding a print copy of _Disciples of Bone and Shadow_ anytime soon, I am eagerly awaiting _Across a Thousand Dead Worlds_ (and am jealous the KS backers have their dirty paws on the alpha pdfs but late pledges don't), and I've got _Seekers Beyond the Shroud_ on the way to me in the mail. Would love to see a full interview with Alex T. or see him invade "Alone Together" for a little roundtable one week.

    Having watched it, buying a copy for myself and a friend for a late xmas present. Great video showing the points of the game. As far as I know, usage dice first make their appearance in Black Hack, which is why Forbidden Lands mentions it as inspiration. But I guess it’s not too far off of DCC’s dice chain, in that the basic idea is “dice are cool, let’s use all of ‘em”. I like usage dice too, so much so that I tend to hand wave inventiry in most games, and just tell them they have D6 bullets, or whatever.
    Great review, by the way! This game is on my list now (though perhaps not LFOSR’s version, but that’s fine, I’m getting other stuff from him).

    Great video! This game looks really neat. Im new to solo rpgs. Im trying to decide between this game and Across a Thousand Dead Worlds. Any thoughts on which would be better for a beginner? Id prefer something that is a little more guided without forcing me to generate too much story myself up front.

      I'm unfamiliar with Across a Thousand Dead Worlds, but I wouldn't recommend Sacrifice to a beginner. If you want something to start with from Blackoath and Alex T., I would look into Ker Nethalas, Riftbreakers or Broken Shores. I have very detailed reviews of Ker Nethalas and Broken Shores (originally called GodShard) on the channel.

    Great vid and great recommendation! Finally a berserk themed game (Shadow of the Demon Lord is the closest but with a different vibe and backdrop). Have this on my shopping list right away.
    Pity that the expansion is still missing the interior rules. The claustrophobic atmosphere can add a lot when venturing alone in ruins and dungeons (in contrast to battling in open wilderness) in a grim dark setting.
    The usage dice mechanice iirc comes from Black Hack.
    Disciples of Bones and Shadows sounds similar, though Sacrifice seems even darker. How would you compare these two titles by the same author?

    • @blackoathentertainment5617
      @blackoathentertainment5617 Рік тому +2

      Author here, so maybe I can help you with your question! Disciples of Bone & Shadow is closer to something like Dark Sun, it's kind of a post-apocalyptic fantasy game, so basically no civilization, and you're going to die sooner or later. Sacrifice's setting is the typical European Medieval one, if you know Berserk then you know what to expect. System-wise Disciples is D100 based, whereas Sacrifice is D20. All in all, Disciples is a more complete game, simply due to the fact that the current edition was the result of several reiterations and adding contents from different supplements together. Sacrifice is just a few months old, and I have no plans on stopping with it so eventually it will have a much richer community and wider arrange of content. Disciples is pretty much dead, since the publisher doesn't seem interested in publishing new stuff for it.

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  Рік тому +2

      For me Disciples is more complex. It has a lot going on, and could really benefit from a rules and procedure summary, and an appendix / collection of all the tables in the book - there are a ton of useful tables, but they're just scattered about the book. The system and world are really cool, but I personally find it too difficult to play because of the lack of those things above. Also, my book is misprinted so the pages listed on the index are always a couple of pages off in either direction.

    • @blackoathentertainment5617
      @blackoathentertainment5617 Рік тому +2

      @@TheDungeonDive I'm slowly learning that I need to provide that kind of support with my games, haha. Too late for Disciples, but moving forward I'm planning on doing so!

    • @TheDungeonDive

      I'm a big fan of gameplay / procedure flowcharts, especially for systems that have a lot of little rules.

      @@TheDungeonDive they are definitely a must. Across a Thousand Dead Worlds has them, and with the Seekers Beyond the Shroud KS we released a booklet with all the rules summaries and procedures. Like I said, I'm trying to learn haha.

    a very sad and weird choice to omit spellcasting regardless of the video makers (odd) opinion on magic. because Berserk literally has tons of magic and the "good guy" party has at least 2 dedicated Mages by the current arc. glad the video covered that or i might have bought it though, so appreciate the review

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  10 місяців тому

      Not weird or odd at all. There are tons of games out there with lots of magic. Just find the game that has the stuff you want, and play that, and let other people enjoy the things they like without calling them weird and odd.
