I'd just add to what was said. Foxton and Buckler were the tightest kick arse backline ever. The Jam were three individuals. Without Weller's songs and presence wouldn't exist. BUT they did. And without Bruce and Rick would be a very different entity. It just seemed to coalesce. These people saved my life as a teenager. I was slipping down the drain. And these words and music quite literally saved my life. Without them I'd almost certainly be dead by now. That attitude ! and belief. Evident in every note or hit. I recall an NME interview where Weller said something along lines of 'we all have to take responsibility and whatever you do you do it as well as you can'. I've always lived by that maxim. I saw them live a few times and it was always an almost religious experience. These 3 people gave me a belief system, they instilled discipline, gave me an anchor to something. This is no exaggeration. They really were that important. Listen to everything and look at everything. Quite astonishing really that a 'pop group' could have such a profound affect on someone's life. But my word they did. Thank you. I'm still alive. C
I'm in my 60's. I have seen hundreds of concerts. I clearly remember and frequently testify that The Jam were the tightest band I ever saw. Period. They were three individuals, but they were one band, one sound coming from that stage. I know the minute whenI turned my back to the stage to walk up an aisle and I felt the music coming from a place above the stage. I had to turn around to see if there wasn't something besides a band playing behind me, if the band hadn't risen above the stage. I stopped in the aisle and watched, and didn't move until "In The Crowd" wrapped. What a band...
Amazing mate, hope your ok, I know ever single lyric of every jam song , absolutely amazing band. When I was 18 I was obsessed with the jam, I’m now 60 and they are still my favourite band of all time!

It is just plain ridiculous what this trio can do... when people talk of the "best" and things like, "the best rock bassist" ...John Entwistle comes to mind, but Foxton was his equal entirely as a melodic bassist, and sang better to boot... and the same with Weller, strum for strum could play and sing like Townsend, and had just as keen a pop song mind.... And there are many good drummers, but who can drive the Weller song structures like Buckler, the rollercoaster of parts and crescendos. This stuff is just crazy. The songs are crazy good... On record they are tops, and live even better, although a different animal... the sign of a real band. Obviously, reminds me of the Who, but like an alternate universe Who with a different style of pop, born of a different era and generation and creative aesthetic. Mort Business I love the jam too for all sorts of reasons, if you watch the Who in 2000 Albert hall, where Weller does a brief guest spot , the extras show Paul asking for an easier guitar part, Townsend solos and virtuosity ( as indeed Entwhistles) are mind boggling in comparison, but horses for courses, they were certainly the best of the new wave era.

Man what an intense show. That Weller intensity, elsewhere someone says he’s just spitting out the words. Utter conviction. You won’t see that today. at shows
think i was 16 and this was a bit of a diissapointment to me, not musically wise, that was out of this world, just the set list, i was still hard core punk and the Jam had moved on, still got to pogo and upset a few mods, so all in all a great night :)

Just three mega talented young men playing and singing their hearts out... Hope you’ve achieved some of your dreams - never give up on them.. 🖤
What great memories. They came to Connecticut and I was teaching 150 miles away. Made it for the show, drove back, getting in around 3, then up and ready to go at 6:00. Don't think I could do it now, but damn, what a great show and a great band. Thanks for the smiles.
Proud to say I was there , this was my very first live gig at age 15 I am always grateful I got to see them live but regret It was only once A happy and special memory from a very tough adolescence As is said , youth Is wasted on the young
In my opinion, The Jam was easily Paul Weller’s best period of Music. I can’t believe these Guys split so early. What a waste. You watch a great concert like this and realize how brilliant they were.
It wasn't a waste at all. The Jam were brilliant but the songs Weller would go on to write would never have sounded right with them. People need to grow up and accept that as a rock band The Jam had a particular sound and theme. Could you imagine Long Hot Summer, Headstart For Happiness, Speak Like a Child, Shout To The Top, Wanted, The Paris Match, etc. with The Jam? It would have been shit. Just like Down In The Tube Station at Midnight or Precious or The Eton Rifles would have been shit with The Style Council.
The thing you notice here is the huge influence The Jam had on so many of the contemporary guitar bands. But this gig takes the breath away with its ferocious speed and energy. stunning.
I'm a Bass player and a lifelong JAM fan. Bruce Foxton is one of my all-time bass heroes. I love the way he launches into "Town Called Malice" with such frantic nervous energy that he realises he's actually going too fast and has to pull back the tempo before Rick and Paul join in! ;-)
that kind of bands where the lyrics alone without any song ,are pure poetry. Even when english is not your native tongue, like me.And miss the gigs with that openers/presenters ,a lost custom. Thanks
Damn, I wish I'd seen this band play live. As a bass player I'm super impressed with Foxton -- he really fills a lot of space with his playing and vocals. Fantastic band.
Bruce Foxton was still playing, I saw him in Leamington Spa in 2019 just before the lockdown. For an old man he's still got it , he and his backing group were amazing.
Saw these guys on my 19th bday in San Francisco (1981), standing on the armrests of the front row seats of the Warfield theatre looking Weller in the eye the whole time. It was life changing.
The greatest. Saw them Saturday and Sunday 3rd and 4th April at Newcastle City Hall. Loads of money in my pocket after Grittar won the Grand National. 18 on the Friday. My world was an oyster… When you’re young😢
Touch my heart and feel winter Hold my hand and we are doomed forever , if you gave me a fresh carnation ,. And he was in his early twenties when he wrote that it's fuckin unbelievable really
What a band, as a teenager I was mad into them wearing all the mod stuff boating blazer, bowling shoes , parka union jack on the back with the jam through it getting chased of punks what great memories going to the local youth discos asking for the jam to be played great times ,
You are so right. Bruce Foxton ma5ched Paul in energy and vocal on every song. Love this concert so much. Wish they would do a reunion tour. I'm old and would love it.
Bruce Foxton did more for Bass playing than just about anyone else. Most of the energy , aggression and musicality was all down to him. Excellent Bass player with superb harmony vocals backing up Weller.
@@jamesnoble2753 Your so right and without Foxy their would have been no Jam, the best punk era bass player without a doubt, such a shame they all fell out :(
JAMES NOBLE Your so right about Bruce, a superb bass player who’s snarling, growly bass sound was such a huge part of the Jam. ‘Down At The Tube Station’, ‘Going Undergrond’ ‘Beat Surrender’ and many more wouldn’t have been the same without Bruce’s bass parts. Same goes for Rick Buckler, a very underrated drummer!
Not only that he is my favourite bass player all categories but also that the bass is so prominent and melodic in almost all the Jam songs. Much more prominent than in the Who’s songs for ex. The intro to Pretty green is amazing to just mention one. And it is as if the guitar, drums and the bass take up equally much place and space and that the bass is so far much more than just keeping the pace and a complement to the guitar. Brilliance
This was without the shadow of a doubt one of the best bands we ever produced. One of my all time favourites along with The Stranglers. We will never see or hear their like again.Fantastic live performance here.Best three piece ever.
Back in the mid 80s, in my rusty Mk II Escort, the cassette version of the compilation album Snap managed to get jammed(!) in the cassette player. No amount of prodding and poking with a screwdriver would shift it, so short of taking apart cassette player was going to get it out, and I wasn't about to do that because I knew it would never work again. I used to give 3 mates a lift into town every morning, and drove em nuts with the same music EVERY SINGLE DAY, monday to friday. 2 of those guys, it turns out as I met up with them 40 years later had become serious Jam/Weller fanatics. Eventually, the tape snapped and after a few weeks of just the radio playing, I took the player apart, got the tape out. Prised open the casing, rejoined with sellotape and it's still in existence today, allbeit in a TDK D 90 shell.
The Best...this was a soundtrack of my teenage years in the late 70's and into the 80's, cruising my Vespa with my scooter pals listening to The Jam. So damn great, it sucks getting older but I would NEVER trade those days for anything in the world, it was magical, stylish and fckn cool to experience while it happened.
Megan, I just read your comment and wish I had a time machine to take you back, they were fantastic. I discovered them around 1977 when they were just up and coming. I saw them three times in London where I lived. Would have been more but I joined the military at 16 so was away a lot. The soundtrack to my youth though, still love the music and have all their vinyl. Check out the Stranglers too👍
Awesome band live, incredible records. We just couldn't believe anything could be so good at the time and we weren't wrong. They made it the luckiest time in the whole of history to have been a teenager.
Nobody could touch the jam live .bristling with energy and power they had it all.leeds and my fave jam live gig bingley hall Staffordshire .no band had a more profound effect on me and millions of working class boys and girls than the jam.weller wrote about the here and now .till my dying day I will be eternally grateful to Paul Bruce and Rick for the literally thousands of hours of music listening pleasure .quite simply the greatest band in the f ing world the jam.🎤🎸🎸🥁🛵😎
An unbelievable gig! The Jam was a superb live act. This gig shows others how it should be done; a real benchmark. Was - and always will be - a huge Jam fan, just a shame I was just too young at the time to go to see them live. Thank God that this video exists to give me an idea of what it would have been like.
My God, when 'Move on up' starts they are enormous. Foxton is locked into Buckler's drumming to create a force of nature and then there is the incomparable song writing and delivery of Weller. How pale the 80s were without groups of this stature.
This is amazing. I grew up in Alabama but there was a neighborhood kid a couple years older who turned me on to all the British punk bands when I was about 13. So glad this exists since I never had a prayer of seeing them live.
What a show I’m only 9 years old born in 2014 my dad was born in 1974 and he grew up in the 80s rocked to indie in the 90s and he got me into this music and his mates me and my dad are like brothers if it wasn’t for me dad I wouldn’t be a mod or be here this music has been helping me through these last months my mum walked off stole all my dads money and now i’m flabbergasted but all these bands the jam small faces the BLUETONES ocean colour scene supergrass and many many more currently I’m just sitting in my garden deck chair and listen to this full blast what a band THE JAM FOREVER 🔵🔴⚪️
Absolutely phenomenal. What a fantastic find. The Jam have been part of my life ever since I saw them do All Around The World on Top of the Pops…that was 45 freaking years ago… That’s Entertainment is taken to a whole other level. Thank you for posting this.
I was 16 in Canada in ~1980 when I saw them the first time ..then again during their last tour of The Gift ... really great memories. Afterwards I followed Pauls amazing new chapters , TSC and finally an amazing solo career.
What I still find amazing is that this is Only 6 years since they started...6 albums..loads of stand alone singles and B sides... sessions, tours and a live album...all in 6 years Incredible First band I ever saw. Brid Spa 1981... Wonderful
Come on, When your young is the greatest Jam song, isn't it?, the best song Paul Weller has ever written, that song is just, just genius, so so fucking good.
I went to this concert, best Jam concert ever, saw them many times, at the end of the concert, as we were at the front, I found PaulWelles’s plectrum, treasure.
I remember when a great deal was being made about the old Britpop resurgence of the '90s. Good lord, not a one of them - Oasis - could even hold a candle to this band live. The Jam is fucking amazing. If Noel Gallagher saw the Stone Roses at Spike Island and thought "this is something I could do," If he saw this show he would have thought "this is nothing I could ever do in a million years."

I grew up as a spotty Scottish teenager with this band and loved everything about them, the tunes, the look, the attitude, absolutely mint 😜😜 They were up there with The Specials and Madness, enough said 👌👌😜😜
Happy happy memories seeing this band all over England growing up and in France. Superb energy commitment to each song. Rick on drums is without a doubt one of the best, Bruce outstanding bass player and Paul electric. Forever the best band in the world to me then and now. Up there with the Beatles and Stones for what they brought to the music of this country and youth of their time. Just a shame how it ended so bitter like a lot of bands and time has never been able to heal how Paul feels about bringing them back together for one last time. Thank you though to the three of you for all the great nights I had seeing you play and for making my time as a youth magical. 💜
Must be the last year they were together. They sound great live, thanks! I was so into The Jam even though I lived in the US. I would buy their stuff and listen to it a lot and really rocking out to their last album (Happy Together driving on the fast road alone, lol). Then, I remember The Specials (another favorite) and them breaking up around the same time and I was like, WTF. Luckily for me, I still had bands like Elvis Costello, Talk Talk (for a little while), and others. Elvis C was one of my last concerts I saw before Covid hit in 2019!

@@keithwellerlounge74 Yes and when Weller does some Jam songs nowadays they lack the passion and ferocity.
Weller now plays the same old jam songs.
The thing you notice here is the huge influence The Jam had on so many of the contemporary guitar bands. But this gig takes the breath away with its ferocious speed and energy. stunning.
What a sound Everyone in the jam was busy, nowhere to hide, hard working band
I'm a Bass player and a lifelong JAM fan. Bruce Foxton is one of my all-time bass heroes. I love the way he launches into "Town Called Malice" with such frantic nervous energy that he realises he's actually going too fast and has to pull back the tempo before Rick and Paul join in! ;-)
Noticed it too lol his tempo was MENTAL at first
that kind of bands where the lyrics alone without any song ,are pure poetry. Even when english is not your native tongue, like me.And miss the gigs with that openers/presenters ,a lost custom. Thanks
The best songs are always like poems put to music
Damn, I wish I'd seen this band play live. As a bass player I'm super impressed with Foxton -- he really fills a lot of space with his playing and vocals. Fantastic band.
Bruce Foxton was still playing, I saw him in Leamington Spa in 2019 just before the lockdown.
For an old man he's still got it , he and his backing group were amazing.
Bass drinker ffs
Saw these guys on my 19th bday in San Francisco (1981), standing on the armrests of the front row seats of the Warfield theatre looking Weller in the eye the whole time. It was life changing.
The greatest. Saw them Saturday and Sunday 3rd and 4th April at Newcastle City Hall. Loads of money in my pocket after Grittar won the Grand National. 18 on the Friday. My world was an oyster…
When you’re young😢
Down at the tubestation at midnight is still my alltime favourite song. Wish I could have seen them live.
Same here my friend
Nothing in the world comes close to the talent of this band, pure class x
Sad that they are not all on speaking terms now, such a great era in music.
What a band - 40 years on, wow, what a rhythm section - 3 guys, 3 chords and the truth
you got that quote from Adam Reader "Professor of Rock"
Pretty much nobody could top these guys in 1982. They went out on such a high note its baffling.
Touch my heart and feel winter Hold my hand and we are doomed forever , if you gave me a fresh carnation ,. And he was in his early twenties when he wrote that it's fuckin unbelievable really
Best English band of the 70’s! Shame they didn’t carry on for a few more years. ✌️😇
What a band, as a teenager I was mad into them wearing all the mod stuff boating blazer, bowling shoes , parka union jack on the back with the jam through it getting chased of punks what great memories going to the local youth discos asking for the jam to be played great times ,
i saw them twice in small clubs here in boston, what a fabulous band live
this band were insanely brilliant live
Perfect, their voices just blend to produce best band ever..no debate..I was there, god bless The Jam..addressed a generation
You are so right. Bruce Foxton ma5ched Paul in energy and vocal on every song. Love this concert so much. Wish they would do a reunion tour. I'm old and would love it.
It's nice to the Bruce Foxton love in the comments section. He is by far the most underrated bassist in music to this day!
Absolutely true. Always one of my favourites to this day.
Probably underrated by joe public but many bass players have him in their sights ! That's what really counts 👍
Bruce plays bass like a rhythm guitar, the tones he gets from the instrument are so rich, you instantly know it’s him playing when you hear it.
Bruce Foxton did more for Bass playing than just about anyone else. Most of the energy , aggression and musicality was all down to him. Excellent Bass player with superb harmony vocals backing up Weller.
Not even close, James. John Entwistle was in another league. Bruce was good, but nothing more.
@@LaughingStock_ ...John Entwhistle never played bass for The Jam.I prefer Bruce Foxtons playing to Johns anyway.
@@jamesnoble2753 Your so right and without Foxy their would have been no Jam, the best punk era bass player without a doubt, such a shame they all fell out :(
JAMES NOBLE
Your so right about Bruce, a superb bass player who’s snarling, growly bass sound was such a huge part of the Jam.
Brilliance
Brilliant. Can't believe they stopped. Gutted still . Long live the jam
I know , wish they had done one more year 😢
This was without the shadow of a doubt one of the best bands we ever produced. One of my all time favourites along with The Stranglers. We will never see or hear their like again.Fantastic live performance here.Best three piece ever.
My favourite band of all time. Honestly.
have you ever heard of led zeppelin... B real.
Led Zep are great no question. But The Jam are also great no question. Goodcmusic is good music. No need to.compartmentalise. smile and enjoy
Criminally underrated band, at least here in the USA.
brodel77 imagine if they were about today. Global.
I’m American, I love The Jam and so do all of my friends!
Paul Weller was, and is a cunt
@@michaelkennedy5126 Did he run over your dog or something?
@@michaelkennedy5126 FUCK YOU DICKHEAD
Best Band in the World!
The Best...this was a soundtrack of my teenage years in the late 70's and into the 80's, cruising my Vespa with my scooter pals listening to The Jam. So damn great, it sucks getting older but I would NEVER trade those days for anything in the world, it was magical, stylish and fckn cool to experience while it happened.
this makes up my teenage years now, i never meet anyone my age who listens to them as much as i do. i feel like i was born in the wrong era lol.
@@megan8617 I am so sorry that you missed it, trust me, it was amazing then, and we all new it...
Check out the Stranglers too👍
Good old scooter riding , gum chewing , sharp dressing , mod school flashback nostalgia.
The year after I saw them at the same venue, sadly no longer there.
An amazing night... loud, relevant, personal... Unbeatable.
I think this is the best Jam concert I have ever heard. Quintessential Jam in top flight, pure class.
Still one of the greatest Three piece bands every to strap on a Rickenbacker.
Gavin Hunter What about Rush! The best three piece in rock history.
How ironic that a guy with "Hendrix" in his name would say Rush is the greatest three piece. LOL
Peter Hendrix Uuuh ok LOL!!! Then again, to each his/her own I guess.
But they are not a three piece band, there two other musicians behind the band hidden in the darkness
@@johnbarton3252 backing musicians for the tour, not official band members.
Oh, the memories! What a band to grow up with.
This is amazing. I grew up in Alabama but there was a neighborhood kid a couple years older who turned me on to all the British punk bands when I was about 13. So glad this exists since I never had a prayer of seeing them live.
Watching this in summer of 2020. What a band. What an energy. Jamtastic. Weller forever.
What a show I’m only 9 years old born in 2014 my dad was born in 1974 and he grew up in the 80s rocked to indie in the 90s and he got me into this music and his mates me and my dad are like brothers if it wasn’t for me dad I wouldn’t be a mod or be here this music has been helping me through these last months my mum walked off stole all my dads money and now i’m flabbergasted but all these bands the jam small faces the BLUETONES ocean colour scene supergrass and many many more currently I’m just sitting in my garden deck chair and listen to this full blast what a band
THE JAM FOREVER 🔵🔴⚪️
So glad I found this. I was at this concert with my girlfriend. I don't think she was that into The Jam but I loved every minute of it!
Absolutely phenomenal. What a fantastic find. The Jam have been part of my life ever since I saw them do All Around The World on Top of the Pops…that was 45 freaking years ago…
That’s Entertainment is taken to a whole other level.
Thank you for posting this.
Ghosts is absolutely brilliant in this vid.
A band who's legacy will go on the best 3 piece to ever walk a stage
You obviously never saw Motorhead
I was 16 in Canada in ~1980 when I saw them the first time ..then again during their last tour of The Gift ... really great memories. Afterwards I followed Pauls amazing new chapters , TSC and finally an amazing solo career.
This really needs a vinyl release!
These guys were awesome. Foxton's punchy bass and backing vocals are exceptional.
the best English band ever!
What I still find amazing is that this is Only 6 years since they started...6 albums..loads of stand alone singles and B sides... sessions, tours and a live album...all in 6 years
Incredible
First band I ever saw.
A great gig from late in their career - 21st March 1982 to be precise.
+buffscrag71 Thanks mate ...was wondering !
+I'm a MOD Proud of it. Inspiration mate!
1982 at the Afon Lido, I was there. :)
Cardiff
Seems to be too many Liverpool fans there for Cardiff. Or Birmingham.
Fun times.
Rick wrote a brilliant song in this set. A truly incredible band. So sad that they broke up.
Brings tears to the eyes !!! Ordered Wellers bowling shoes from Shelley’s after watching this 😎!!!
one of the best bands amazing
Nice video like this
I remember when a great deal was being made about the old Britpop resurgence of the '90s. Good lord, not a one of them - Oasis - could even hold a candle to this band live. The Jam is fucking amazing. If Noel Gallagher saw the Stone Roses at Spike Island and thought "this is something I could do," If he saw this show he would have thought "this is nothing I could ever do in a million years."
never a true word seen them at deeside leisure 79... ive seen o jays the temps. ste wonder smokey all the rest jam anytime proper white soul boys and football band [the itk will know what i mean]
So true, so true, Oasis a poor parody of how it should be done,
Could not agree more. Simply awesome. The Gift best lp ever. I would only crush its tender petals.
Fucking amen to that!
What about The Small Faces ?
Santa Monica Civic, CA 1980!! THE JAM Rocked!
It was my junior year in high school and it was fantastic. So much energy and excitement.
When You’re Young sounds very Clash now I hear it years on
Agreed! But their own spin on that sound still.
Bruce Foxton! He played lead guitar on the bass. He made the band rock solid. Rick Buckler was excellent too.

SO MANY HITS, sSO LITTLE TIME Metrobilbao. They played much different sets at different concerts in '82 !
Show me anyone who's ever had a better set than that and I'll show my bare arse in (the recently saved) Beatties' front window.
Private Hell
A tune and a half!!!
cant you put timecodes in ffs?
I grew up as a spotty Scottish teenager with this band and loved everything about them, the tunes, the look, the attitude, absolutely mint 😜😜 They were up there with The Specials and Madness, enough said 👌👌😜😜
The Jam,The Clash and The Ruts were the soundtrack to my life as a kid.
Their Dedication is in every Move they make . Amazing
😎👍
Happy happy memories seeing this band all over England growing up and in France. Superb energy commitment to each song. Rick on drums is without a doubt one of the best, Bruce outstanding bass player and Paul electric. Forever the best band in the world to me then and now. Up there with the Beatles and Stones for what they brought to the music of this country and youth of their time. Just a shame how it ended so bitter like a lot of bands and time has never been able to heal how Paul feels about bringing them back together for one last time. Thank you though to the three of you for all the great nights I had seeing you play and for making my time as a youth magical. 💜
I was there, just stopped by to revisit the soundtrack of my life.
SO MUCH POWER! JUST 3 GUYS! Grew up with them!
Wow, what a concert! My favorite band of all time. Lucky you if you were there. xo
how good to see people just enjoying the concert rather than sticking mobile phones up
