I forget where I read it, but there was a concert when Kansas opened for Rush, that Neil approached Phil and asked him about the off time signature during at around the 6:50 or so mark, and Phil said "you just keep counting '1,1-2,1-2-3,1-1, 1' " or something to that effect. Take that in: The Professor..asking Phil.... Wow
@@carlsylvester425 Starts at 6:19. Ehart explained that the sticking is actually simple (123 12 3, 123 12 3), but confused a lot of people (including Peart) because of the counter-rhythm being played at the same time.
Not that there's ANYTHING to dislike..but notice there are ZERO thumbs down? This was ASTOUNDING. There was; nothing.....ZERO....lost from the album. Such a great song!
Thing that kills me about all this is how the guys can keep all those ridiculously intricate parts straight in their heads. I die if I don't have sheet music in front of me. :D
@@zackscruggs4543 The riffs are pretty solid too, they're comparable to many prog and tech death metal bands today in terms of complexity and odd timing.
According to setlist.fm, the band has played this song 251 times live, but I guess you have to factor in that not every member was constant. After doing it that many times, it gets essentially ironed into your head, not to mention that they're all really stellar musicians.
'Leftoverture' was a rock masterpiece! One of my all time, top 5 rock albums!
Definitely a MUST HAVE rock album!!!!
Not even within my Top 50. But yes, it is a masterpiece!
I wish they played this whole song at every single concert. Would be a dream of mine to see live in person.
Tonight on Top Gear: Jeremy is playing guitar in Kansas. James is playing bass in Kansas. Richard is playing violin in Kansas.
I was there! You can vaguely hear me screaming "MAN OVERBOARD!!!" at 2:56!
I'm sure Phil Ehart has played this song a thousand times, but he is incredible. Reminds one a little of Neal Peart in his precision.
Hands down one of the most underrated drummers of all time. Heck, most of Kansas' members are severely underrated musicians.

@@thatmatt41 that is high praise of Phil.

Phil is one of the best drummers on this planet ,only a few heard of him which is a shame really.
Phil kicks ass, those parts are so tight and powerful, no scraps in his scrapbook. Lean and mean.

Such a great song!
Seen the 40th anniversary tour at the benedum in pittsburgh in 2013 met the band they signed our big ticket they gave us what a show

Mainly, it's all the arrangements for the keyboards that kill me but, I'm sure after playing enough 11,000 times you get it down lol.

like 4:10
or 4:32

I love the fact there are 51 👍's and ZERO 👎's
Great!
Nice!
Nothing to do with the live version from 'Two for the show"
Other than this crap can't possibly hold a candle to that amazing tour way way back then with Steve and Kerry!
Who is the keyboard player?
Shame that everyone was sitting down
"but mom why should i have to learn violin? violin is stupid and lame"
