      I have the same illness as the woman in the clip (ie Sickle-Cell Disease), and am very used to the "you don't look sick" question. As presumptuous and inappropriate as the question is, I also wouldn't want to associate an outwards, physical expression of being sick (such as our extreme pain episodes, for example) as being ugly, either.

      This quote is dangerous advice, it's possible people can be bad or good, if they are a danger to you, and you don't perceive them correctly then your actions won't coincide with the actual reality that's occurring, so to conclude much in reality is good or bad or even both, even if you don't think of such.

      @xXLuckyJeroXx 2 місяці тому +1

      @@Lee-ws4fr this is also incorrect. You can have the worst people around you, yet there are still other people out here who would disagree with you for hating on a person. This goes the other way around as well, where a charismatic, positive person can be disliked by others.

I went to a correctional program for truancy when I was young because I missed a lot of school for general health problems. Next thing I know I'm going from an innocent 13 year old who had never done anything to hanging out with kids who stole motorcycles and did drugs. But I will not show it and still act the same around you afterwards, even though I'll never forget that one moment. Don't know if that's healthy, but I've been burned twice by people I considered best friends and both times I did not listen to my gut, so this is kinda my way of learning from it. It's happened a few times and I have a difficult time getting that moment to stop replaying in my mind. For example, never had a problem with my bff's boyfriend until he got drunk and hit her [roughly!] across the face with a coat and pushed her off the sidewalk. That's forever burned in me. Drunk or not, that was in him and I can't get past it.

      Hi Rachel and Kelcey, that was me! My NDE happened when I passed out (because I actually got stuck on the tree for 15 mins). I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and thought “so that’s what it looks like.” It really is beautiful. I then had a vision of my family sitting around my parents family room and it was so sad. I knew that wasn’t how I wanted to leave this world. That’s I woke up and decided I had to get “unstuck.” Eventually I was able to shift my footing and pull my foot out of my shoe and a group of people who had come to help me pulled me out. They stayed with me until the helicopter came.
      I DO believe that experience has connected me deeply to “otherworldly” realms as well as my own spiritual nature.
      At the time I was the Director of an English Language school and my supervisor was extremely difficult to work with. I hated it. I decided when I came out of the waterfall that I would only do things in life that I absolutely loved. I am now a fitness & wellness coach and also work in the cannibas industry (shoutout the the girl who got sent to Juvi 😂)
      I recently did an AMA on my instagram account and posted it to my highlights. You can find it on my profile @jenjnyjnfr titled “nde”

Same thing with me, I go somewhere and people think I’m some white boy who don’t know spanish, but if they only knew I am from Honduras and fluent in spanish they wouldn’t try to talk mess. Which is why I say I feel what she sayin.

      @@srodriguez721 I have nothing against Conservative Christianity, but growing up in it truly was one of the hardest things ever. The expectation to be Godly and Biblical, the judgement, the fear, etc. Yes, there are many Christians who are not like this but there are many who are unfortunately. My parents believe I had spirits in me during my teenage years and still do, even though its normal to be rebellious during that time and develop my own beliefs. I hardly ever talk to my parents about what I am struggling with and though it is tormenting I would rather deal with that than constantly being judged for failing to know better. My parents expect me to have an almost identical relationship with God to them even though its not like that at all. If my parents knew I was gay they would disown me without question.

    I hate to see the New York accent disappearing. People nationwide are adopting the California accent or some facsimile thereof.
    I’m African American and my family is from the northern east coast since we got off the boats from Africa and the Caribbean in the Colonial era during slavery. We’re from Philadelphia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and mostly, New York City.
    My grandmother, born in 1910, had that old New York Jewish accent a la George Burns. My mom, who was born in 1933, spoke classic “Brooklynese”. Think, a young Barbara Streisand or a young Diahann Carroll. I remember growing up in the 60s listening to her use words like “frankfurter”, “dungarees”, and “sneakers”, words no one else we knew ever said.
    My siblings and I were born and spent our formative years in the Ocean Park neighborhood of Santa Monica, CA. We had that classic, post-war, white-kid L.A. accent. You can hear it in kids from predominantly white L.A. areas who were born here in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. A perfect example is Tony Dow who played Wally on Leave it to Beaver and Greg, Marsha, Jan, and Cindy Brady and some of the other youngsters who were guest stars on the Brady Bunch. The accent eventually became synonymous with surfers and young people from the Valley (the San Fernando Valley in particular). Today, the accent is slightly different than its mid-century version. But for some reason, as of late, everyone thinks it’s the accent to have and they’ve decided to adopt some version of what they think it’s supposed to sound like.
    In New York, only small pockets of people still speak with a New York accent. Mainly, it seems, it’s an expression of their neighborhood and ethnic identity. Jews, Italians, Puerto Ricans (who in the old days were referred to as “Spanish”), and African Americans all had their own versions of the New York accent which also varied by burrough.
    Elderly New Yorkers still have accents, but as the City gentrifies and more transplants move in, the New York accent is rapidly going extinct. 😢

Truth is, I got ignored a lot growing up and my parents didn’t really care about me.
