Looks like the one my neighbor wrapped around a tree because it needed a primer bulb. I told him to get one and I'd put it in for him. He just warped it a little and gave it to me. I straightened out the bent tube somewhat, put in a bulb and ran it for a long time. They'll do the job. Thanks and Blessings!
@@HomeGaragechannel It was a speedometer cable drive so the straightening wasn't as critical as a shaft drive. Close was good enough and a curved shaft at the end too,
Good job.You saved its life! I own the same trimmer. date code 11/99 full maintenance every spring, and it still runs like a champ!! thanks again for the video!!
Have the exact same one. My dad bought this in the late 90s and I have.it now . Still used it one a week in the summer only thing I have ever changed is the spark plug, fuel lines, and primer bulb. I hit the air cleaner with the air compressor each year. Never had the carb off to clean it because it starts literally everytime
Hi I picked up a homelife weed trimmer it was given to me so I brought it home I pulled it just to see if it turn over it did so then I went to prime it and the the primer bulb broke no surprise so then I pulled the spark plug out and checked for spark and no spark I used a short screwdriver and put it near the spark plug hole and put the plug onto the screw driver and no spark so i think the coil might need to be clead should i check something else to see if coil might be Bad Thanks
I was given a Homelite st-175G weed eater, and was wondering if this is the same type or do all Homelite weed eaters work about the same? Need to do some work on it. Missing a hose and primer bulb. Never did any work on a weed eater before this has been help full though
Good video man, but I have a query, I have a homelite f2015 22cc and it did not start, change fuel, I put a new spark plug and it sparkles, I disassembled the carburetor and it was very dirty, I cleaned it and assembled it again, all its gaskets are in good condition , but there is no way to make it turn on, do you have any idea what that could be? Both in the user manual, as in your video and other pages they recommend me to do all the same but nothing worked
all your steps were correct. Have you confirmed the compression number? I was just wondering if its worn to a point where it won't start. If you think the compression is fine and its not worn out I would buy a replacement carb.
What would cause primer bulb not have pressure to fill. I changed bulb and it don't seem to suck gas up. If I spray starting fluid in carb it runs for 3 seconds or so
great video I have the same trimmer as this one can you tell me where I can buy a new carburetor for this home lite trimmer model any link to a store where I can buy a new carburetor for this trimmer model thank you, I wish you much success
I just replaced the starter rope on my 1994 Homelite built in the USA trimmer. Then I went out and trimmed my yard. Had to rebuild the carb a couple of times due to the crap gas sold today. Think about it. It's 30 years old and functions perfectly. Yea, I could have bought a new one a couple of times but I feel keeping it out of the landfill and using my brain and doing some research, I can keep it going instead of buying a new throw away piece of junk made in China.
@@HomeGaragechannel I've heard the fix is just temporary , to get you out of a jam until a new one is ordered and delivered. Some say it gives you about 7 days of operation until it stiffens up again. Have you done any tests to see how long before it reverts back?
well kinda. unfortunately some of my fixes go back into storage, I don't have a way to count days of use. But the last Time I used it on one of my own pieces of equipment it lasted for more than a season. However I have a feeling the diaphragm wasn't too bad to begin with. Yes it's for emergencies or trying to get a tool up and running to find out if it has other issues.
As long as it has spark, sufficient compression, and fuel, it should start, providing it don't have a severe cylinder scoring, etc. Fuel lines in the tank break off and you don't know it. If you add fuel, it starts. Listen for a loose filter. Get 12" hemostat pliers to replace filters and lines.
I meant to ask what the original setting is on these carbs. If I removed the screws when cleaning the carb, what would the initial setting be. Thanks for the response Jim
Hi HG .. I can not for the life of me figure out how to get the black metal high speed limiter cap off this model zama carb, I cut a slot in it with a hacksaw but its really hard to turn and I don't believe its actually tuning the needle, only the limiter cap is turning, any clues ? ty
@@titomontano7231 is it leaking from the carb? If not where is it leaking from? If its leaking from the carb the fuel lines might be backwards. It could leak from the fuel cap also.
Thank you Gerald Schober for the comment I appreciate it. It depends try this test. Grab the trimmer head and try to turn it. If it spins freely then there is a clutch on the engine and it's not supposed to spin when on. However if you turn the head and it trys to turn the engine then there is no clutch and it should spin all the time.
Home Garage no problem I need to replace the carb on my home lite as it keeps flossing I removed the spark arrestor and rebuilt the carb and replaced the primer lines and fuel filter and it keeps flooding
Thanks for watching and commenting. The seal is achieved by the fuel line being bigger than the hole. If your fuel line moves easily thru the hole then I would suggest moving up in fuel line one more size.
That's kind of making it sound too simple. You can even get sub problems of those two issues not to forget compression. Not to forget a carb tune as well.

Great video! I had heard about the brake fluid trick. Wasn't sure if it would work. Thanks for confirming.
it's like CPR, if the diaphragm is just too far gone, no amount of fluid will work. But if it's just starting to stiffen, the fluid works well.

How do you remove the plastic off the high and low air adjustment, on the carb?
Just use a flathead screwdriver and pry it off
Brake fluid on the diaphragm. Well that’s a new one on me, I’m gonna give it a try tonight.

Brake and carb choke cleaner as well as fluid can work wonders on small engines and carburetors

@@titomontano7231 no problem. Let me know.
Can you adjust the high screw on these at all?
I believe the screw is a mid adjustment so neither Low or High. It easier to adjust since theres only one screw but it not very flexible when tuning.
why is it leaking gas from the side of the gas tank when you started it?
The cap has a gasket that's messed up so its leaking
What size fuel line does it need?
i think its 3/16"
