Always amazes me that people throw out equipment like this when it's such an easy fix, just bought a 5000 watt generator today from a yard sale, old man said he couldn't get it started, 40 bucks, I took it home and cleaned the carb , fired right up
I have lived a full life with things people pass down due to fear and ignorance. Americans are mpney spenders and throw away and destroy what they spent their money on as they go type idiot population. During the 1979 gas shortage fear of morons that practically gave away full sized cars and switched to compact junk cars, I bought up many Cadillac and Oldsmobile big cars for around 800 to 1500 each that had another 100 k miles left in them
I come from a generation that if something stopped working you fix it, or get someone else to fix it if you weren't able to and keep fixing it until you couldn't fix it no more. It IS enough to make you cry when you see the wastefulness around us. Great video Brad 👍.
Screw that guy. I like the tinkering videos. But for real, are you not doing amp repairs anymore? Just wondering because I can send you my Peavy Triple X. It's kind of noisy (dont know if it will get quieter or not) and I have a fresh set of 6L6's to put in it (currently running EL34's).
I rescued the same trimmer, the same way. When I see a primer bulb that's gone brown like that, I replace that, the lines, and the metering diaphragm and check the fuel tank for debris. It's so cheap and easy to do. The Trimlite is a very lightweight trimmer with a dual string head and a clean curbside find is absolutely worth a try.
I was almost positive it was a primer bulb when you began this video I graduated Vo-Tech in 1991. I would have immediately ran out to the hardware store bought a new primer bulb. I would have had it running within 15 minutes just like you. Glad to see somebody else doesn't want to throw stuff away and would rather fix it just like me good man Brad.....✌🤩✌
One mans junk is another mans treasure is so true. You would have a field day here picking up items and repairing them after people throw it out its really something else. You could literally open up a repair shop picking junk out of the trash and reselling it as a part or full time buisness if you appoached it right. Nice fix simple at least you didnt loose spark...Good Video!
Been through this very same thing last week to get the string trimmers running. I think I hadda buy a couple carburetors for the pair of them a couple years ago, they were really cheap, like $15 each. I use the premixed fuel from the hardware store, seems to be more stable. Now to do the same thing with the leaf blowers and the chainsaw.
Brad, you could do anything on the Tube & it would be interesting. I think maybe that's because I haven't quite figured you out yet. You're part hippie (I don't think you're gonna like that), part old-timer, part hmm...(redneck isn't the right word), part artist, and ALL real. Am I judging? I guess so! Anyways, THANK YOU, Brad, for doing what you do. I like the weed eater thing. By the way, around here what we call a weed whacker is a glass of tequila and a shot of beer. No, wait! Oh, hell! I'll have one of those!..... PS Which is better? Straight shafted, or curved like your Homelite?
@@TheGuitologist Yessir. I do believe she likes a curved shaft. I do like it straight, though. It's just the way I am. I love the idea of live streaming AS YOU TRY TO FIX something. The unknown quality of not knowing whether you're gonna succeed lends a bit of mystery that makes it interesting. I'm putting that in my plan for when I start making fix-it videos. AND I'm gonna keep score, too. After each repair, I'll add that item to a spreadsheet or a chalkboard or dry-erase board & keep a running percentage. Quick story: I had a talk-box - the blue one that sometimes says Ibanez, and I think some of them say Maxxon on the label - I bought it about thirty years ago, broken. It didn't work. I swear I must have moved and carried that thing with me 5 times. I meant to "get it repaired" when I could afford it. Eventually, about ten years ago, I decided to just look inside. Maybe I would see some clue. IT WAS A LOOSE WIRE! God damn it! I promptly sold that one for about $300 (pretty sure it was $20 broken when I bought it) and built my own. Fix stuff? You damn right I can fix stuff. And if I can't fix it, I'll eat my hat! -- ...Excuse me. I have to go get a hat made of blintzes or tortillas or pancakes or something. Just a little thing to make life easier. You're right. It's pity that so many perfectly good things are tossed away as rubbish. Let's fix the whole world! Yee Haughw!
Also, those little engines need a little more RPM on the idle adjustment they're made small displacement to be more fuel efficient but they don't have a lot of power so they're made to run literally full tilt even damn near at idle. Just my experience with little engines. Good deal for a 30 bucks. 😁👍
Found this vid trying to remote solve a homelight trimmer issue, exact match for the one I 'm working on. Was able to pull the model number off your vid - thx for the high def vid! :)
I saved an old disused weed Wacker. Same repair essentially. Use 50:1 remix and it starts after winter no issues. Thanks for the worthwhile content Brad. Enjoy the rehabbed tools. Maybe you will find a riding mower next. Convert it into a go cart?!
This video reminds me of the lawnmower I bought second-hand three years ago for NOK 350 (= $40). Didn't run properly, needed fuel poured straight into the carb to even get it started. The seller told it was left behind in the garage by a former resident, so he just wanted to get rid of it for cheap. I brought it home, removed and cleaned out the carb, put in a new diaphragm, cleaned the air filter and replaced the spark plug and motor oil. Ran great and still runs fine. The blade might need to be sharpened, though.
My string trimmer has a cracked primer bulb. Yes, it's sad how people throw things out. My issue is twofold: 1, my vision is going, and 2 use of my hands coordination. I was paralyzed . After 22 years as a deputy sheriff and 5 firefighters, EMT-A. I hate that I'm limited in fixing things. But your video is good. Now i need to find a primer bulb. Cheers
I haven't got a recommendation or notice of posting for this account in like 8 months I just saw something from channel 2 and was like oh yeah, this guy exists.
When you pulled that carb I was like ",Oh oh" Because it wouldn't prime with a vacuum leak via the bulb. Then it all came about and voila' another great video.
the ethanol in the gasoline eats rubbers. rubber hoses, rubber primer bulbs, gaskets. nice save and fix brad. steve's small engine saloon. good youtuber who can help ya with the idle ans other carb settings. should be 3 different screws to adjust. one of them you fiddle with at full throttle to set things up proper. have a great weekend everybody!
I've got about the same trimmer but it's much newer and it's still running great at almost 11 years old. I also have a homelite leaf blower from about 6 or 7 years ago and it still runs. They key with these small engine is to use non ethanol gas and stabil is your friend. I have a lawn mower that's probably over 20 years old and I got it for free 11 years ago and it still runs great in fact I've picked up a couple of free mowers that weren't running and fixed them up and used them for awhile and sold them for a profit.
He hold a throttle half wide open and just the high side screw into it clears up the best way I learn to do this was not watch another seasoned mechanic do it
this is hilarious, neighbors put "trashed" weed eaters on their sidewalks, an hour later hey hear em running and whackin weeds over at Brads... too funny
dood man you're going to be able to start your own lawn care service here soon, maybe you can do those "I mowed this old ladys lawn for free and her reaction was priceless" or not, charge her wth.. lol

Whats the fuel mix in that can? 60/30 or 1/1 im sure were getting lower grade gas (they're not checking every truck)

HI, BRAD ALWAYS CHECK THE SPARK PLUG FIRST, AND NEVER USE ETHANOL IN
GAS & OIL MIX... HIGH TEST DOES NOT HAVE ETHANOL IN IT, MOST OF THE TIME ?

Brad you need to go pro camera, that hat is ridiculous 😂😂😂
