    Todays Video i'm working on my 2003 Jeep TJ that has a Dana 30 front axle and a OX Manual Locker. The issue I noticed this winter is that the Dana 30 axle seal on the passenger side was leaking. This is a time consuming job as you need to remove the brakes, calipers, wheel hubs and axles to get to the differential. Then you need to remove the differential carrier to access the leaking seals.

    LOL "When I'm filming it takes forever". When I tell my wife I'm doing a job and I'm going to video it for my channel, she said she multiplies the time I tell here it's going to take to do the job by four! So no I figure out how long it's going to take and I do the same, then tell her. She thinks I've gotten better at it, LOL Thanks for sharing. I'll be doing this next spring on my front Dana 30 on my F350. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    Didn't see any RTV or gasket maker go on before you drove the seals in! Not saying you didn't do it, just that I didn't see it. Replaced my 1st set without RTV and one side still leaked. Local gear guru told me that was more than likely the reason for the leak... So I got to do it all over again but this time with a good bead of RTV around the opening of the seal seats. No more leaky leak! Thanks for the videos

      No need to use RTV, that’s why the seal has that coating. If you need to use RTV then the tolerances for the seal are out and that’s why you needed to use RTV...... lots of times as well people replace a seal and realize the shaft surface is too worn and needs a Speedi sleeve to repair.

      @@TestDontguessGood to know. I probably f'd up that seal driving it from inside the diff with a hammer and probably the wrong size socket! Used the method you did my 2nd time around and was sure to drive them in straight. I guess if nothing else, the RTV helped to hold the seals squarely in place while I lined up my socket and extension

    Great job Jerry !!! Thank you for posting this video . I think it would help someone out that is thinking on replacing the inner diff seals. Did you ever find out what made the seal fail ? Just had 4wheel parts replace my rear output seal on my SYE ,under warranty of course and they could not figure out why the seal was leaking . They ended up putting a double lip seal in and I also had them get a extra one for my parts bin , just incase . They showed me the old seal and it looked perfectly fine . Dunno . Take care my friend and give some loving to Tomcat from uncle Dave .

      I don't have a jeep, I've got a Bronco with the dana 30. But I BELIEVE that he has installed the wrong seal on the passenger side in this video. In these jeeps there is a different seal for the drivers than the passengers side. I absolutely could be wrong, but it appears he has installed drivers side seals on BOTH sides. If that was the case, a seemingly fine passenger side seal would be leaking simply cause it doesn't fit properly. That's my guess, and shown in many other videos explaining this procedure.

    My daughter just let me know she was getting some vibration driving her 2007 JK. I looked and saw that diff fluid drip from front passenger side. Not sure how long that has been going on of course. Would a low level of fluid cause that vibration you think and if I put some more in temporarily solve the vibration? I could probably replace the seals myself but wondering what a shop would charge to do this work assuming only the seals need replacing. Great video BTW of the procedure.

    What is the tool that you are using to hammer the old seals out with? It looks like a long chisel, maybe? I also have outer axle tube seals and I was contemplating pulling the outer axle tube seals out with a slide hammer in order to get at the inner axle seals until I stumbled upon your video.

    Hi Jerry. Did you use blue loketite on the bearing caps and do you have to check backlash every time you remove the pumpkin? Thanks for the video.

    • @AndrewBrowner
      @AndrewBrowner 6 років тому +1

      blue loctite is not a bad idea but ive put them back together without it no problems, if you just pull it out and do this without altering the bearings shims caps or gearing then no backlash check is needed everything should go back as it came.. you may have to remove the pinion if the carrier wont pull out but usually not the case, removing the pinion on some models requires a replacement crush sleeve, on my dana 44 it has shims instead of a crush sleeve, some people say the sleeve is reuseable ive never tried it, but none the less you should be able to leave the pinion alone

    Hi there my friend! I have to say that I have run into some of your other video's where all the f-bombs are flyin' and I just had to quit watching....but this one is legit! I see that you actually are a good mechanic and a good teacher! But the f-bombs just minimizes the audience. I mean, I cuss all the time, but I have a good filter around people that don't know me. I appreciate your effort in the video's! I am in the middle of my '98 ZJ Dana 30 new bearings and seals.
    I hope I wasn't trying to be offensive, just actually wanted to Thank you.
