I used to have a rat colony brawl deck id use for my arena dailies. It's wild to think that a deck that cheap on arena would cost $200+ in paper
Ahhh sinkhole. The memories, the decks, the lost friendships....
First one without an Arabian Nights card! For those wondering about Oubliette from there, the cheapest printing was sitting at $1.79 for the Double Masters version when this video came out. So not even close.
And every other Arabian Nights common has an under $1 reprint somewhere.
It's also an uncommon in Double Masters.
I don't think it matters if it's an uncommon in a certain printing as long as it's a common somewhere - the rat colony (#8) here is featured as an uncommon version.
@@stuflames4769 But it's not? Video's showing the Dominaria printing, which is a common. The only other ones seem to be Mystery Booster/The List, also as a common, and as a rare in a Secret Lair.
Except for one big fat asterisk -- using Card Kingdom as the source mean you miss the clear winner as Stone-Throwing Devils is far more expensive than any of these if you can find someone selling it. Card Kingdom won't, but eBay and Cardmarket will.
I turned to dust when you said urzas legacy was a quarter century old
That’s when I started magic, well Urza’s Saga…. I have many grey hairs now
Bro got hit with both modes of a sorcery speed Return to Dust 😂
4:00 - I always assumed you were some sort of uncommon pet person, wasn't guessing rats. Thanks for all the great content .
When Dominaria came out and it was when I bought more mtg product, when I found Rat colony I thought it was so cute I had bought 21 of them (my favourite number) in foil. A pleasant surprise to see it do well!
In the days post Ice Age/Tempest/Alliances, whenever I perused through cards for sale, I pulled out every Darkness and Oubliette I’d run into. Always liked the weird, obscure-yet-powerful cards.
Darkness is my favorite. The art is awesome and Gigeresque; the quote gives me shivers, and the effect is something no opponent ever expects.
Damn, time to dig up that box box of bulk commons at my mom's place to see how many Cabal Rituals are in there.
same
I always thought Darkness's Legends print had some of the most metal looking art in the game
Yes. Very Gigeresque. The Shakespearean quote is perfect, too. I miss the days when MTG put real-world literary quotes on their cards.
A signed Rat Colony by Nizzahon would go for more than the 1/1 One Ring.
Signed Zodiac Rat would be an even bigger flex.
The one Card > The one Ring
Depends on if Post is a fan or Nizzahon or not
Signed Teeka's Dragon would go for more than an original Van Gogh.
No
Bruv I just gave somebody around 20 rat colonies a couple years ago
Culling the Weak received a JPN comic promo insert recently, but it is in Japanese.
Culling the weak saw a lot of play in hatred when tempest was legal.
Maybe move cards from PTK to something like "Honorable mentions"?
sinkhole is good with overpowered lands in Commander examples being a strip mine, urborg, and in a certain green cradle card
A Nizza Notes on price gouging in the secondary market would be nice.
Actually, I wish we could see more MTG trading content creators talk about the importance to the community of people pricing their resales FAIRLY instead of going for just under a hair below the current average at best.
These videos really make me feel good about not selling off my old cards when I first quit the game. I have 7 of the 10 (I guess 11, since the last entry had two cards), and several copies of a few of them.
Worth noting that the crazy values of Portal Three Kingdoms cards is pretty much contained to English printings. Last I checked Japanese printings were *much* cheaper.
this video is awesome! Pauper is a strong format in latin america, we love it.
#10 and #3 I had no idea. I've been sitting on a stash of them because I liked the card but never put it to use in a deck.
It amazes me that sinkhole is banned in pauper, but lotus petal is legal.
Lotus Petal doesn't end frienships. Sinkhole does (an old-school land destruction deck will make you the most hated person in a 100 km radius).
Most hated person by people who don't like fun, or haven't seen a politician maybe.
Just look how much better old cards look compared to what they print nowadays.
I really enjoyed this list! It's funny because Black isn't even my favorite color; I like Blue, and then Black is probably second, but one of my better non-EDH decks is Rat Colony, with several other powerful Rats backing them up. The real reason, though, is a card that says nothing good about me; Sinkhole is one of my literal favorite cards in M:tG.
It needs to be said that I am not particularly "good" at playing Magic. I'm more reserved, and nonconfrontational, so I'll always prefer a more gimmicky, alternative way to win than just amassing big creatures, and turning sideways. My preferred play group was good with this, but I obviously rarely ever won, and I reached a point where I decided ivDID want to build aggressive, but I still didn't want to do so conventionally. I build what I refer to as my "scorched earth" deck. Basically a Rakdos combination of player burn, and land destruction, hiding behind a wall of Goblins because Earthblighter Priest, and I thought of this because I hate how Green ramps SO WELL. It, too wasn't great, and then we shifted to primarily EDH, which suffered for both competitive multi-player burn AND multi-player LD, since that's frowned upon in the "social contract" Commander entails, but Sinkhole just made me smile.😊 lt's also nice because I sometimes watch these lists, hope to see something I like, and then discover it wasn't good enough to make that list, like Skittles and Infect, somehow, or Sinkhole and Land Destruction cards, so to finally see it get on a list is wonderful, even if my appreciation for a targeted LD card just depicts me as one of the worst type of players, by many people's metrics.
gonna have to find my copy of **Culling the Weak** out of my boxes in the room and into a sleeve..
How close was Oubliette to making the list? I guess the recent(ish) reprint brought the cost down.
According to Scryfall, the original one from Arabian Nights is currently over $30, but its reprints are under 1½ bucks at this time.
I have most cards from this list since I played between 1999 to 2003 (Urza’s to Scourge). Those cards were so bad that I threw them away. I want my money back 😢
As a Nitirat, I approve of your list.
I’d like to see a video about the pet rats
damn, how long ago was it when cull the weak and cabal ritual were less than a dollar? because I have at least 8 copies of each that I bought online and I know I didn't pay 12.00$ each for them lol.
I’m curious for the ratmander players if y’all prefer Relentless rats or rat colony? Colony cuz it’s cheaper I’m assuming?
I like Colony since they can be cast for B after you've dropped a Jet Medallion or Bontu's Monument
@@TehSeksyManz oh that’s hottttt🔥🔥
Had a roommate in my college days that had pet rats. I thought they were awesome i would let them crawl around on me and they didnt creep me out like they did my girlfreind. Super cool pets!
I have 2 copies of Cabal Ritual from Torment. I thought they were worth almost nothing!
i would have thought Oubliette would have made the list, i remember them being pretty pricey
The original one from Arabian Nights is over $30, but it got reprints in Double Masters and The List that are only about 1½ bucks right now.
Wtf is a "Mana Source" how could I be playing for so long and never even heard of this card type wow
Only in the first sets. They dropped that eventually same way they got rid of interrupts and made them instants too
Stop making me feel old because I was playing when Dark Ritual went from Interrupt to Mana Source! From Mirage to Urza's Saga, Culling the Weak and Dark Ritual were Mana Sources. Prior to that Dark Ritual was an Interrupt like all the Counterspells (yes, even I thought this made no sense). When Wizards overhauled the rules, Interrupts and Mana Sources became Instants.
Your soul!
-- my mom, in 1994, probably
(5:11) I know I own at least one Exhume somewhere in my collection.
(9:42) I think my brother owns a Snuff Out, but I don't happen to own one myself.
(11:20) I got lucky to find a Culling the Weak in a 10-cent bulk box not too long ago.
(12:21) I may or may not have a Cabal Ritual somewhere in my collection. I don't recall for sure off the top of my head.
(13:35) And of course, it's a Portal: Three Kingdoms card that takes the top spot.
Rats❤ of course
There are 420,000 rat colonies on edhrec. Nice
How about a top ten of unwritten rules? Ex: Creatures in front; lands in back or don't bridge shuffle lol
Fun fact #1: Lands in back is actually a written rule.
Fun fact #2: Bridge shuffling is fine as long as you aren't an ogre with your cards.
Sinkhole! Is the goat!
Best place to sell magic cards?
What do you mean commander decks are less consistent, thats definetly not true you can build extremely consitent decks my deck can consistently win turn 3
No plain old Dark Ritual?
Quite a few reprints, you can pick it up for like two or three bucks
Oubliette?
It was printed as an uncommon in Double Masters, which is the cheapest version of it on Card Kingdom.
@@MosoKaiser but is not common right?
@@glitchyikes Yes and no. Originally, in Arabian Nights, it was indeed printed as common, but that's not the cheapest printing of the card, which this video's listing based its ranking on.
Exhume is a group hug card lmao, more like a game ender in a kriik son of yawgmoth cedh deck.
Why is zodiac rat so much more expensive than zodiac snake? It's a better card, sure, but aren't they both pretty unplayable?
Sinkhole was an uncommon am I wrong
Yep, you are.
haha i have like 10 cabal rituals.
In Europe, 5 years ago I bought 6 snuff outs for 40 cent per card. These prizes are bullshit. I always buy at magic card market, card Kingdom is so expensive, I always wonder about the prizes here.
Prices can change a lot in 5 years tho, regardless of where you buy cards.
Good luck finding a snuff out on cardmarket for less than 6€ nowadays.
Well pretty much any card is expensive using Card Kingdom Near Mint pricing.
I mean he can’t reasonably be expected to find the one guy selling the most torn up copy of Bubbling Muck for cheap out of the back of his van. Has to be some sort of standard.
I vote for relegating the Portal: 3 Kingdoms cards to honorable mentions entries for these lists going forward.
Snuff out is really bad honestly. Should be unplayable
lol
