Have you checked the geometry of the cylinder block? It is believed that the cylinder block also deforms under load. What was the mileage on your car before the repair? Thanks..
I have checked the block, i did not spin a bearing, just found metal shavings and did this preventetively. Car was at 260k kms, done 13k since so far so good
What was the issue for it to be rebuilt? my 640d will need the same rebuild, but i dont know how bad t is inside the block as been knocking sounds are loud
Every crank journal has its own tolerance lasered on the block. There are bearing sets with all the same dimensions, but as much as I know you need to lookup the numbers on the block to determine which actual bearing size you need.. i hope your engine will last forever, it was a lot of work! edit: this is what i mean, here it is all bearing size 2: ua-cam.com/video/de-UdtVROgI/v-deo.html
Yes block and crankshaft both have their own numbers to tell which bearing size you need. Bearing sets are for conrod bearing i dont believe there are sets for main bearings as theyre all sold individually. All was done according to ASO instructions either way same as in the link you posted
Nice job, but - I think You should also replace the oil cooler - some of this meal shavings can stay at this place. Also are You sure is your block is straight and all bearings are concentric? I hope yours engine works well, regards.

Hows it holding up? Hope it lasts 100k for you! I'm tempted to get a spare engine just because i dont trust the n57 bottom ends!
What mileage was your failure?
Not that long ago, BMW 3.0 diesel engines were known for reliability. Now it seems that 2.0 diesels are more reliable than 3.0.
They were with the M57 very very tough engine this N57 has had alot of problems

Did you leave the gearbox in the car or take it off?

Hi Maciej, Admirable work. My Irish reg’d F06 has 143,000km. I will need to change the timing chains etc sometime. Do you work on other people’s cars?

From BMW directly. Crankshaft had 0.006mm run out on main bearing journals

I think you have too many decimal places in your runout specification. Actually, .006mm is well within the manufacturer allowed tolerance.
Yes i ment 0.06mm, max acceptable runout is 0.02mm, ive mixed mm with inch decimals
never wait more that 5 seconds, because otherwise you going to burn the starter
Bad crankshaft for just 0.006mm runout? Can't be true, that's 6 micrometers!
Far beyond most machining capabilities, even a dust particle is larger!
