german command: proceed slowly and probe the enemy.
Rommel: I CAN'T HEAR YOU BACK THERE!

It was a classical cavalry attack, only with tanks instead of horses. And Rommel wasn't to worried about the troops left behind. He knew they could fend for themselves, he had handpicked every commander, and knew he could trust them to carry out his orders.

Rommel Leroy Jenkins'd himself across the border so hard and deep into French territory. That he convinced whole companies that they were in enemy territory.
But he was actually a pretty good dude, he lead from the front, he treated prisoners fairly, he refused to kill captured Jews. He disagreed pretty strongly with the nazi party in general, but he took pride in being a soldier for his country.
Dude even tried to assassinate Hitler, and when it failed and he was forced into suicide, (I forget if it was Churchill or Patton) had said "we lost our last gentlemanly opponent".

He never tried to assasinate Hitler but he wasn’t against it either.

He was asked to take part in the plot but didn't but he also didn't rat anyone out. but later when it failed he was accused of being part of it. and was given the option of suicide to save his family and his honor and the German people were told he died of his wounds (as he had been wounded in action)

You're probably referring to Rommel's image after the War, which was mostly a myth because the Allied needed a German general to humanize again after they propagandized against Germans the entire war. It actually has a name called "Rommel myth"
      From wikipedia
The Rommel myth, or the Rommel legend, is a phrase used by a number of historians for the common depictions of German field marshal Erwin Rommel as an apolitical, brilliant commander and a victim of Nazi Germany due to his presumed participation in the 20 July plot against Adolf Hitler, which led to Rommel's forced suicide in 1944. According to these historians, who take a critical view of Rommel, such depictions are not accurate.

@@166Cybershot plenty of German WW2 survivors that fought for Rommel or knew about him at the time, can confirm the actual "myth" being true.
Sounds to me like you want to make every German a demon, so that can work both ways if you ask me.
Historians are people with theories , survivors are witnesses and after such a war there's no point for them to lie.

France: Um... Germany? Did you lose a division of yours?
Germany: I know! I keep trying to find them! I think they went under your couch!
France: Actually... I think they're in my bedroom, but when I went to collect them in a box I found them in my bathroom on my way back to my room. NOW they're in the kitchen... I think.
Germany: *Visible stressed* I need to put a bell on them.

Erwin Rommel was even quoted as saying: "If I had to take hell, I would use the Australians to take it and the New Zealanders to hold it

Rommel was a pure genious. They still teach his tactic today in every modern army. Along With Mansteins and Guderians tactics. Erich von Manstein even worked with Nato after the war as a advisor.

And despite all this, it's not what he's famous for. Rommel was transfered over to the Italians in Africa with orders to help the Italian forces defend against the Brits. Rommel didn't agree with the Italian high command and went on the offensive. For the next two years he threatened the allied presence in Africa despite being more or less outnumbered most of the time. The allies gave him the nickname "The Desert Fox".
    Wikipedia:
On 15 June Wavell launched Operation Battleaxe. The attack was defeated in a four-day battle at Sollum and Halfaya Pass, resulting in the loss of 98 British tanks. The Germans lost 12 tanks, while capturing and seriously damaging over 20 British tanks.[170] The defeat resulted in Churchill replacing Wavell with General Claude Auchinleck as theatre commander.
Following his success in Battleaxe, Rommel returned his attention to the capture of Tobruk. He made preparations for a new offensive, to be launched between 15 and 20 November.[176] Meanwhile, Auchinleck reorganised Allied forces and strengthened them to two corps, XXX and XIII, which formed the British Eighth Army, which was placed under the command of Alan Cunningham. Auchinleck had 770 tanks and double the number of Axis aircraft.[177] Rommel opposed him with the 15th and 21st Panzer Divisions with a total of 260 tanks, the 90th Light Infantry division, five Italian infantry divisions, and one Italian armoured division of 278 tanks.
...In four days of fighting, the Eighth Army lost 530 tanks and Rommel only 100.
    *Fun fact*
The joint US / UK bombings of Iraq in 1998 was codenamed "Operation Desert Fox"

Now that you know the story of Ghost Division and you know who Rommel is, after you do the music reaction you should do Resist and Bite. (I can't believe that you haven't done a reaction about that! Great story and music)

Yup! I almost always listen to them in that order. Here's Rommel - amazing commander, soon-to-be the Desert Fox. Go go go go ... aaaand then they hit Belgium, and those few lads said "Oh, no you don't." WOW.

The best video to listen to Ghost Division would probably be at Woodstock 2012, just because there were 600,000 people in the crowd. It's INSANE.
