  • We finally got our new Patriot Campers X3 trailer! After taking delivery in Oklahoma, we head into Texas and begin our first overland adventure with the trailer driving 120 miles on the beach at Padre Island National Seashore. Along with some great beach video we will give overviews of what we like about the trailer inside and out. Come along and let's see how it does on its maiden voyage and where we are going to take it next!

    I see a perfect place on there to mount the KX3. Put a tilt-up bracket on there and she'll be all set for some awesome HF 📻😆🤣😆

    My husband and I are considering buying the X3 soon. We enjoyed seeing your beach journey to the Gulf. Thank you for commenting about the functionality of the camper. It’s good to get a woman’s perspective. I have a burning question; where did you get your spice bag? I would love to get one. We’re excited to join the Patriot Family!

      The blue spice bag is actually an Arctic Zone "High Performance Lunch Box Pack Cooler". It was an older one that we repurposed for carrying the spices. The individual spice boxes came from Walmart.

    Just found your channel. Love your setup. I’m driving a 21 ORP. Gonna checkout your walk around video. I’m familiar with this beach, since I went to high school in Corpus back in the 80’s. Great job on the video.

    We were there 1st of March 2023 and had the same experience at the visitor enter as you, lady told us the tides were unpredictable and would come and go “willy nilly”. She obviously has no understanding of what controls tides, anyway we had a great time. We enjoyed your video thanks for sharing.

    I'd say PINS is definitely a great place to visit. But I can say I've never had a great experience camping there though. The trash on the beach is a real problem there. It's usually very windy all the time and the few times when it's not windy, the lack of wind lets your camp get overrun by mosquitos (bring the bug spray!). No matter what, you'll track sand into your tent/camper that will just live there forever. And you'll wake up in the morning with everything damp from the humidity and ocean spray. Despite all of that, it's still completely worth it at least a time or two to camp on the beach at PINS. It's a fun and unique experience for sure. And most of the time, there are plenty of spots to camp where you won't see anyone nearby in every direction you look especially after mile 10-15ish.

      Hans, thanks for the comments and for watching the video. Yep camping on the beach, any beach for that matter, is sandy, damp, and frequently windy. I always take care to knock most of the sand off my feet before getting into the vehicle. It won't get all of it, but most. And I agree, after about mile 10 - 20 the people really thin out.

    Hey! great to see y'all again! I'm Brett, one of the people in the group of Toyota's you stopped to talk with on PINS (Padre Island National Seashore). I drive the gold Land Cruiser in your video. Doug and Crystal had the other Patriot trailer. Great to see your trip down the island and it was wonderful to sit and talk to y'all. Hope our paths cross again!

    What an awesome trip, thanks for sharing! Padre Island has been on my list for a couple years and because of your video, it just moved up a few spots in priority. =) We have a X1N with an RTT and have been debating about switching to an X3. Really love the idea of an enclosed space... but we carry ALOT of gear in the X1N so we'd have to really slim down on some of the bigger items. Probably worth it though. We live in CA also. Hope we can cross paths sometime. =)

      Yep not quite the storage in the X3 as in the X1. We still stash a fair amount away inside, but we also use the 4Runner too. In fact taking out the rear seats and adding Goose Gear drawers etc in a couple of weeks. Hope we do cross paths sometime!

    I'm picking up my X3 on Saturday, in Sacramento, then jogging up to the Oregon Dunes before heading home to the farthest western corner of Washington State. Looks like rain the entire time, but I'm so looking forward to the X3! Thanks for the video. Was a delight to watch.

      @@adventurebeyond60 Check out Point Roberts, Washington. A remarkably beautiful spot to visit. You'll need passports. There's a state park campground across the road from the Straight of Georgia (Salish Sea.) Make it this way and we'll treat you to dinner, and if the timing is right, an excursion on our boat to the San Juans or Gulf Islands.

      @@adventurebeyond60 I can tell. We need a West Coast Patriot Campers Jamboree!. (West Coast is anything west of the Mississipi.) I suggest Malheur in Eastern Oregon. Lots of campsites, boon docking... and miles and miles of ATV trails.

    What stove re you using? It does not look like the Eureka or the Dometic it comes with.

    • @adventurebeyond60
      @adventurebeyond60  Рік тому +1

      We bought a Cook Partner by Partner Steel out of Idaho. Exploration Outfitters in Durant, OK fabricated the mount for the stove and installed it when we bought the trailer. It’s all welded stainless steel.

      Well still waiting to see how the Gen 2 works out. Patriot certainly listened to what owners have asked for in the way of improvements. I’d like to see how it works out long term. The gen 1 is working great for us at the moment. We are on day 55 of our Alaska trip with no significant problems with the X3. Reliability is an important feature when one is so far away from home!

    Quick question: Are you guys running the same size tire as your X3? and are you running 35s?

    • @adventurebeyond60
      @adventurebeyond60  Рік тому +1

      Both the X3 the and 4Runner are on 33s. But the 4Runner runs on 12 1/2 width. Can't quote the trailer width off the top of my head but they are narrower. But in a pinch I could use one or the other as a spare.

    • @JoMonki
      @JoMonki Рік тому

      @@adventurebeyond60 got it. Thats been my dilemma. When i run a setup like this i want to be able to utilize tires from my trailer and my rig. I would essentially be carrying 4 spare tires. But im running 37s and so far havent seen other trailers running anything above a 35

    • @adventurebeyond60
      @adventurebeyond60  Рік тому

      Ray at Exploration Outfitters, where we bought the trailer, told me that running larger wheels can make the wheel bearings more susceptible to failure. However, if you check your bearings from time to time and tighten them when necessary that might help. I haven't seen anyone running 37s on their trailer. Not sure what Brad at Trailrecon runs on his X3 which he typically pulls behind his Jeep 392.

    Is getting hung up in the sand a big concern??

    • @adventurebeyond60
      @adventurebeyond60  Рік тому

      Well depends on what you are driving, the tide levels, etc. if the tide is out then no not a concern. If the tide comes in to the dunes then yes it is a concern. Also depends on what equipment you have to get unstuck e.g. Maxtrax, Deadman Offroad, etc u are good. But you dont want to get stuck and have the tide come in on your rig.
