5 Minute Nacho Cheese Sauce

INGREDIENTS
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp flour
1 cup whole milk
6 oz. medium cheddar, shredded (about 1.5 cups)
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp chili powder
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Add the butter and flour to a small sauce pot. Heat and whisk the butter and flour together until they become bubbly and foamy. Continue to cook and whisk the bubbly mixture for about 60 seconds.
2. Whisk the milk into the flour and butter mixture. Turn the heat up slightly and allow the milk to come to a simmer while whisking. When it reaches a simmer, the mixture will thicken. Once it's thick enough to coat a spoon, turn off the heat.
3. Stir in the shredded cheddar, one handful at a time, until melted into the sauce. If needed, place the pot over a low flame to help the cheese melt. Do not over heat the cheese sauce.
4. Once all the cheese is melted into the sauce, stir in the salt and chili powder. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. If the sauce becomes too thick, simply whisk in an additional splash of milk.

@@dadrunk5213 I store personally. Throw it in the fridge and usually go for microwave later. Never as good as the first time, but still delicious. If it looks really firm that’s ok just add a little milk to it when you heat it up.

Following this recipe, I inadvertently created a very delicious bechamel sauce and I didn't even add the cheese. Takes me back to the mid 90s when I ate Woolworth's family size lasagne with it's amazing bechamel sauce.

I think a fork will be alright as long as you don’t scrape the bottom or edges of your pot! The goal is to mix everything, not necessarily through a whisk

I’d use some vinegar from a jar of sliced jalapeños instead of the chili powder. Sweet recipe tho. I’m following this tonight.

Yes sir just microwave for 10 seconds and stir. Do that about 3-5 times. Make sure container is microwave safe haha

We don't recommend storing past 3-5 days. You could try and freeze it though!

I just made this and put it in a small crock pot to keep it warm. I used store bought shredded cheese and it came out really good but i had to add little more milk to keep it runny and not kinda thick also my butter and flour didnt look like yours it was clumps but when i added milk i whisked it and turned up to high then to med high to get it to be the right consistency...best recipe so far all my others was a fail.

I did it finally but instead of coming out creamy it came out a little clumpy, could that be because I used normal household milk that we use for tea and coffee instead of full fat cream or something?
Could be! But yes full cream is recommended.

Can u use already grated cheese for this?
We don't recommend using already grated cheese because it has ingredients that prevent it from melting really well like in our recipe.
