We are from Michigan but have lived in NC since 2017. Cost of living is similar. Mosquitoes are way worse in Michigan. Will be moving back to Michigan next year to be near family. Love a lot of things here except the summer heat. Fall is my favorite time of year here. We love the mountains. They are fabulous!! Will miss them so much! Miss Lake Michigan though and the Great Lakes!
I've lived in NC for 11 years. Never encountered a giant roach, poisonous snake, a killer mosquito. I'm retired and I love it that my retirements income is NOT taxed in North Carolina.
Honestly they’re not bad… The state tax rate is 4.75% w/ a max local rate of 2.75%. That translates to a 7.25% sales tax in Raleigh. Property taxes are about 1% of assessed value. We have a gas tax that’s not as compatible as some of our neighbors and NC does make you pay tax on your car, boat, trailer, etc every year based on the assessed value which kinda stinks. Lastly our income tax is a flat 4.99%.
Been in Raleigh area for 11 years , worst drivers. No turn signals , people constantly cut you off no basic road edict. Almost as bad as Massachusetts. Flat and no views in the triangle. Plan on leaving in the next 3 years.
I had a 3 day interview a few minutes north of Durham, YUCK! Not for me, homeless everywhere, feet sticking out from bushes at the Wal Mart, begging everywhere, talked to locals and they said that all the benefits they give homeless people are attracting more and more homeless people on a daily basis. There are nice homes over $450k, but MOST of the people there can't afford that so there were trailers and run down homes everywhere! The only thing I loved about the area was the food, the restaurants I went to were AMAZING!
I moved to charlotte. I had more mosquitios in iowa. I have not seen many snakes. I have not seen roaches. Not too hot in summer in charlotte. Night cools off. Not as humid as florida. Alergies in iowa more with ragweed.
I'm from Florida, my girlfriend is from Texas, we are planning on moving out of North Carolina due to the blue politics, price of living and taxes.... guess you guys need those pickers paid under the table. Slavery still exists here.
If your worried about high prices, poor roads, extreme heat most of the year, Snakes, Gators, mosquitoes, horrid traffic, an inability to get home insurance due to our hurricanes and flooding, and hopeful for good old southern values, it's too late. The liberal northerners have all but ruined it. We're looking at heading north!
Hello Sir - I am your new subscriber. Appreciate your time & efforts explaining those 10 reasons. But I have already decided to move to NC from Minnesota and made arrangements. Not sure how I will feel after moving in. I am also planning to buy a home 🏡 there.
Good Luck . I Now can't afford to buy a home there since the SNOBS from the NE ,and FLORI-DAHH has moved up there Jacking up prices , Beware , the Locals don't like YANKEES .
Most of the people living in the larger cities are non native immigrants from the North and Midwest. As a native from Gastonia, I avoid these places to avoid high real estate prices, crime and traffic... the others can have it to themselves! I moved to rural upstate South Carolina where land and taxes are cheaper. One of my brothers still lives in NC near Raleigh, the other moved to West Virginia.
As a native.... Everything here has gotten so expensive for no reason... Your property taxes will keep rising... We also have horrid humidity.... So yes pick another state we are full! 😂
Prices have pulled back here in Raleigh a bit as higher rates have lessened the demand. I think Raleigh will see modest appreciation in the next couple years, but that all depends on how far the FED has to increase the FED funds rate to cool off inflation. Most of the states or regional areas with the fastest growth rates are going to get crushed so there will be some good deals out there imo!
@@ThatsRaleigh But isn't Raleigh and NC part of those regions with super high growth rates and would therefore get crushed? Obviously the flushed the market with money and bought mortgage backed securities etc. But the supply remains low and therefore it seems that there are enough people who have the money to pay for these houses. It's obviously a frustrating time to be a buyer and I'm not sure if I should just wait another year. But buyers could even get more priced out.
@@luperamos7307 yes, I totally understand! Without trying to favorite Raleigh or anything I would tell you that when you read stats on Raleigh it generally refers to the Raleigh metro area which includes the Raleigh suburbs. Some of theses areas saw more price growth than Raleigh because they still have land to develop, but are much smaller than Raleigh. All of the suburbs came about as a result of the success of the research triangle park (RTP), which is the engine that drives both the Raleigh-Cary Metro and the Durham-Capel Hill Metro and is positioned in between them. I’m telling you this because this is what brings people here and leads to a population increase and salaries. So there is a real catalyst in place and our housing inventory was at historic lows when rates increased and we are still at very low levels. So we just don’t have tons of new construction sitting idle and I think builders will be cautious not to add excess inventory until they know what the FED is going to do w/ Rates to control inflation. Right now your monthly payment will be higher, but your risk is minimal compared to before when you were competing with 20-30 other buyers for a property. Hope this helps!
@@ThatsRaleigh Thanks for the detailed reply. Overall risk seems to be much lower there bc of the RTP. I'm in L.A. and am completely priced out. Even Raleigh isn't that cheap for me, but I like that universities, schools, etc are nearby. In which areas would you foresee massive drops in the US if you don't mind me asking? I have lived away from California before, but ended up moving back.
NC isn't NC anymore, Too many transplants and they're bringing all their northeast political views with them,It's starting to get overcrowded, overpriced,Even NC natives are leaving because of outside influences moving here.
Thank you for that video. I'm highly disappointed living here. You might want to do a new video to include crime and inability to employ carpenters and/or the exorbitant amount of money needed to rebuild, make changes or add additions to your house once you get here. The hourly wage is ridiculous and the workers are often "no-show" and expect deposits and run with your money. There are no consequences do make sure you have a bonafide contact signed with ET of completion. The Mexicans with no licenses and are learning to build as they go on YOUR house want too much money. If you go with a set price, they put you off while they go with on other homes. Best to pay for the materials yourself, as you go along, and just ask for a total figure price. However expect the bill to be 3-4 times as much out is worth compared to the time it takes multiple by the hourly wage. They do not line up. Bottom line: unless you are pretty handy you will be getting ripped off one way or the other. There is not enough competition here in New Bern. A lot of retirees coming here living on fixed income. Contractors in Carpenters think you have money if you are retired. Nothing could be further than the truth from that! Yes I'm from the north, and the pace here is like a turtle which is excruciating. I have painted, wallpapered, put up backsplash and replaced tiles in my kitchen. Although I've done a really good job I'm so frustrated because I do need help. You just can't get people to come because their small jobs and you can't get them at a decent price. Nice people yes but not really. They smile as they rip you off and they laugh all the way to the bank. So no thank you. The weather is nice but I can't wait to move up north again. In fact I may give up owning a house has become a renter again. However this time I can rent out my house which hole pay for my apartment and then some, all the while increasing the value of the home. Southern hospitality is a dying image. Before coronavirus, buying a house in North Carolina was a good financial move. Not now though. Retirees are better off in Florida. I'll take the ocean any day over the lakes in the rivers that are filled with bugs. The only thing I like in North Carolina so far is Wilmington and the outer Banks. If you want to live like a turtle, come on down. Unless you have a boat to get out of the heat and the bugs, it's no picnic here.
Florida is having MASSIVE issues with home owners insurance and insurance in general. Over 17 insurance companies have left and others are going insolvent. Insurance is a nightmare. If you think FL is better, you haven’t thought of Florida.
I WANNA LEAVE JUST AFTER MOVING HERE JUST 7 MONTHS AGO! Toomanny bugs to hot and to expensive to live here not to mention they tax your pensions if everyone keeps moving her it will get worse ! The true southerners are pretty much gone or have died off.
I'd take NC over crazy Florida any day! I live in Alaska and I've spent plenty of time at both places. NC always feels like home. Florida is a sweatbox with meth addicts and stupid backwards people
It's not a terrible thing- the more of there you bring here, the more here becomes there. Also Realtors are up there with pimps and drug dealers- they don't care who they sell to or how they destroy a community, as long as they get paid.
I strongly agree, here is about them making money they don't care about the good people who move here trying to live a good life. NC does not support people from other states, they may support their own.
@tommytomtomt I mean, they are gonna be first on the list for a lot of people come the collapse. Pretty sure the local drug dealer gets a reprieve thanks to them.
I do regret moving in NC because the job market in the medical field is getting real bad. The facilities mistreat some people from different states. The people here do not welcome outsiders from Louisiana. I'm from the South just like these people are. But they don't care they just bully, mistreat, talk bad to you, no respect at all when working at medical facilities. The schedulers booted me out and not accepting none of my shifts. I work through a medical agencies and I pick up shifts at facilities but they reject them and give them to their favorites. I need to live and eat too. Again they don't care about outsiders. I don't like the bugs at all but I can deal with them. But paying such high cost for Orkin. That's an extra cost coming out my pocket? They can fire you for any reason is another problem and literally take your job from you. They said the people here has hospitality in their blood. That's not true at all!! They do not treat certain outsiders real bad and who wants to be around people who mistreats them for nothing. I have also respect and treated people with the upmost respect that's the way my parents raised me. If I knew this was going to occur towards me. I would have moved towards the Midwest or North where the people in Baltimore Maryland New Jersey will treat you better. Trust me I have experienced dealing with those people. I need to finish my bachelor's degree in psychology and when I graduate from college I'm moving away from NC and never turning back. Being a mixed race woman living here really sucks!!

What jobs? This State has a problem with hiring people over 65. It's not cheap and the meat is horrible. I lived in this state for 4 years. I have not met friendly people. I say, Hello, I get no response.
We've lived in NC since 1995, and are considering leaving because we can't make friends here. It's not for lack of trying. We reach out and reach out, but nobody reaches back. Churches, groups, neighborhoods...we've tried to fit in many of them. We live in Durham, but we have also spent time in Raleigh, Gastonia, Roxboro and Chapel Hill. It doesn't seem to matter where we go. People are nice on the surface, but that's as far as it goes. You can't make any lasting connections. We are originally from Ohio, and I think that's part of the problem...the way we speak. I think people assume falsely that we are very liberal because we live in Durham, have Northern accents, and I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill. We are not liberal. We are conservative Christians and have been since about 1998. We were Christians before that, but we are stronger Christians since 2022. We were not always conservatives since we are from Ohio and our families were involved in labor unions. But we realized the problems with labor unions after we moved here and studied the history of that movement and the roots of it. We are good Americans and want nothing to do with Communism, unlike some of our Durham neighbors who tend towards socialism. But, people judge us by the way we talk, our education levels, and where we live. We get discriminated against and ostracized. People don't want to make friends with us, and we are horribly lonely. We have given this a lot of thought and have decided it's discrimination. We are not bad people. and we have tried very hard to make friends to no avail. We don't know if we could stand the cold up North where we came from, but our only friends are relatives who still live in Ohio. We might return there, but we don't know. North Carolina is warm and beautiful. Ohio is beautiful in its own way, but it's very cold, wet, and mucky much of the year. The summers there can be very oppressive too with muggy heat in the hottest months. My husband's job may keep us in NC because of his business connections, but we are very lonely here, and we have tried everything. Pray for us.
OK I live in Arizona and a dry climate allergies are bad here don’t move here. Cost-of-living is very very expensive. I had to go to a ENT doctor I’m on prescriptions plus no spray and I have an ointment to put in my nose. This is 12 months out of the year so I’m trying to move to North Carolina to get away from Arizona because of the cost of living allergies is very very dry so dry sometimes I have nosebleeds so I visit Clayton county justice, pastier and wake county. I definitely want to move to North Carolina maybe I’m going to go up toward North or Buford is .
Not only are there snakes and bugs but they are also vultures Hawks eagles coyotes owls muskrats foxes Gators on the coast but the most dangerous animal there is the people. But if you associate with the right people you can make it in North Carolina but if you associate with the wrong people you're building yourself a world of trouble. I lived in Durham as well as Charlotte in Raleigh and I've been all over North Carolina
Question. On a lot of "moving to NC" videos, I look in the comments and unfailingly see comments basically demanding that no one else move to NC. Is that truly the attitude of local North Carolinians? I just want to move my children AWAY from the awful place we live in now, and TO somewhere they will thrive (besides, we have family in NC). We want to live in a more rural area, not in the cities. Will we be discriminated against just for being from out-of-state? Honest question.
No, you will be just fine moving here. I moved here in 1998 with my 2 small children from CA. and 25 years later we are all still here. I was a native Californian that grew up in a very small town. It too changed over the years and no Californian was "unwelcoming" as a result. This is life and all things eventually change. Forget all the gloom and doom posts about living here. It's a wonderful place to raise a family and most beautiful to boot. I don't even notice the bugs or humidity anymore. I love the slower pace and friendly hospitality we all grant one another as a way of living here. Best decision I ever made.
It completely depends on where you move and how many people have moved there in the past 10 years. My small town for instance so many people have moved here that when I get sick and call the doctor in July they tell me march is the earliest app. The locals here are super close to hating people that move here. I stopped to get gas yesterday on my way to an appointment I had to keep and I waited in line to pay for 1 hour because there were so many retirees buying lottery tickets. My town wasn't designed for so many people and is completely overwhelmed in every way. Its hard to not get bitter when the people (who are mostly northerners) that have moved here don't care that they are making your life harder. They don't care about your culture and are actively trying to take over and change everything about your home to the way their's was. I know not everyone who moves here is like this but enough of them are that it changes things. This is not everywhere though you could absolutely move here and be happy just if its a small town check to see how many have moved before you lol.

Well, you made it clear to me, if not to everyone else who listens to your message, that you are trying to dissuade people from moving to North Carolina or to leave it you can have your life back the way you used to have it before foreigners , or should I say northerners came to live in your comfortable culture! Where is your southern hospitality?
Excellent Video , and how true you are , I love NC and escape the Hot ,Humid , heat from FLORI-DAH as I been here for 71 years , back before covid we were looking at buying a 2nd home in Waynesville or Hendersonville , since we go up there twice a year , I now can't believe what they want for homes , a 2 bedroom /2 bath home at 1500 sq ft they want $ 450 ,000 dollars ,Engles grocery store is now so expensive as we look for a Wal mart to shop. So many Floridiots have moved to the nice mountain towns and alot of the NEiner SNOBS . The local people do not like Half backs from FLA or NY, NJ , MASS , RI , NH and now CALIFORNIA , which is driving the prices Sky High , Same here in FLOR-Dah , now that houising is so expensive the younger people can't afford a home .
Oh know! There will be a big difference between Ohio and NC. If you’re not a beach person that’s probably ok. I would say having easy access to many east coast destinations would be the big difference… along with the summer heat!
New York is a state not a city very diversified we live in the Adirondacks and we are libs surrounded by a sea of Red the city gives New Yorkers a bad name but we are not all know it alls give us a chance we can be friends.
My husband and I are planning to move there from MN. We love southern charm! We are hard core conservatives! That's one of the reasons for leaving the north/MN. And, it's just getting worse and worse with the lack of morals, our taxes getting higher and higher (one of the highest taxed states) to pay for all the far left, immoral people coming to MN to be taken care of by our welfare system, while they complain about everything. And, the foreigners that are moving to the entire country are trying to bring their ways here... and that IS destroying our country. It's like, if that way doesn't work where they came from (a specific religious group-not saying who...), then why do they think it's going to work here?! So, I get what you're saying about not wanting people to bring their ways... but, we've got to get out of the north!
I lived and grew up in NC for over 30 years. I moved there and back 3 times as an adult. I have to say this, many of these videos refer to NC as being very conservative. They are sugar coating it. In NC the word backward applies. Prior to the civil war, NC was known as the "Rip Van Winkle" state. Reason: they are always 20 years behind everybody else. That's a historical fact. The place hasn't changed. In the cities there are a lot of folks from other parts of the world. These areas would seem very normal to most folks. But once you cross the city limits into the country side, Watch Out! You will start to here people use the "N" word when referring to black people. You will be ask loaded questions after you first meet someone like, "so what church do you go to?" As if it was any of their business. But that's NC, other people will make your life their business. If you don't measure up to their values, you will be outcast. These are some shallow people. Be ready for it.
Humidity, northerners, horrible allergies that last for more than a month in the spring and then again in the fall, it’s almost as humid as parts of Florida in the middle of NC and there’s no ocean or mountains it’s like being stuck. Bugs are bad. This state sucks
I definitely agree, I moved here in 2017 thinking I would be able to live a good life but that dream had shattered real quick when the allergies start to kick in my system and I still have allergies as we speak. I never ever had start coughing and sneezing until I moved in NC And you are so so right the bugs are too much to handle. You have to call the Orkin people and spend your money because the landlord does not spray houses only apartments for bugs. Now that too sucks. This State does not support you anyway. Yes they talk about other states being so hot and humidity when NC is very hot with humidity also. Okay?

I’ve heard NC called the NY of the south because of the taxes being high
Honestly they’re not bad…
The state tax rate is 4.75% w/ a max local rate of 2.75%.
And crime
What planet do you live on where NC has high taxes
The income tax rate jumps if you don't have the right deductions . Low wages & high taxes are always the worst nightmare.
The state is horrible on raping you in taxes...
That is really sad 😔
There are a lot of homeless people even in Cary
I lived in Cary, NC for the past 24 years 3 months since I was 16 or more than 60% of my life. I love 💕 living in the Triangle.
It's slow down here because it's too hot to move fast! Keep those molecules from agitating and making unnecessary heat
Too many people already. Which equals more traffic and higher taxes lower quality of life !!
Traffic here is no joke for sure!

@@Mr.Krovic maybe you shouldn't have had them.
@@W81Researcher i dont have Kids and i already move from USA with my companies
@@Mr.Krovic then why would you have an issue with that?
Hello Sir - I am your new subscriber. Appreciate your time & efforts explaining those 10 reasons. But I have already decided to move to NC from Minnesota and made arrangements. Not sure how I will feel after moving in. I am also planning to buy a home 🏡 there.
I think you’ll really like it. Which part of the state are you moving to?
I think you’ll really like it. Which part of the state are you moving to?
Wouldn’t do it and if you do you better have money
I lived in nc and I respect the culture there. I’m a northerner with family originally rooted in the south. These northern states are a hot mess😩
Where else can you still move in the country with those prices? Even NC us getting ridiculously expensive.
@@luperamos7307 there will probably be lots of opportunities, but I think the odds are really good in Florida if you want to be on the coast.
NC isn't NC anymore, Too many transplants and they're bringing all their northeast political views with them,It's starting to get overcrowded, overpriced,Even NC natives are leaving because of outside influences moving here.
Good
Man i have not seen so much hate for no reason crazy
Cary was a nice little town in the 1970s. In 50 years the population went from 7500 to 185,000.
I thought for 3 months I would move there, but have changed my mind. I will head from CA. to Missouri instead.
@reginaldfigueroa4570 Yeah it was way different 20 years ago we still had heat and bugs but the more people who move here the worse everything gets.
😂😂😂😂
I strongly agree, here is about them making money they don't care about the good people who move here trying to live a good life. NC does not support people from other states, they may support their own.
Thats every state realtors act that way lol
Being old and white sucks also, they treat them really bad here.
So,
If I may ask....
Would I, being an African American, be mistreated if I lived or moved there?
@@tnt4648 I don't know how they will treat you as an African American if you come here. I'm just explaining my negative experiences that I have to endure until I finish my bachelor's degree in psychology then I will be moving.
Everything about hospital's/Healthcare/doctors sucks in NC even the people who don't work in that field can see it lol.
That's the craziest thing I ever heard. Not sure where she's located but she would never be treated that way n the smaller cities or towns. We are very respectful and treat everyone the same and being bi racial absolutely has nothing to do with it. That's ridiculous. We could care less what color your skin is. Not racist here at all. I live n a smaller town though. And yes we are conservative which is a good thing. If your liberal you can stay where you are. That's the one thing we do not want. Liberal cry babies
What jobs? This State has a problem with hiring people over 65. It's not cheap and the meat is horrible. I lived in this state for 4 years. I have not met friendly people. I say, Hello, I get no response.
The American dream is now to retire somewhere out of the United States.
Even India 🇮🇳 isn’t that bad nowadays
North Carolina is a Right to Work state if your pro Union you probably shouldn't move there
We've lived in NC since 1995, and are considering leaving because we can't make friends here.
To many people have moved here. And turned it into exactly what they just left. Absolutely destroyed a once great place to live.
Ok buddy
You seem to see the glass half empty
!
We're moving back north we are experiencing the same of not being wanted and this just being here 10 months.

Well, you made it clear to me, if not to everyone else who listens to your message, that you are trying to dissuade people from moving to North Carolina or to leave it you can have your life back the way you used to have it before foreigners , or should I say northerners came to live in your comfortable culture! Where is your southern hospitality?
I see what you are trying to say
Shit that's all you got! Sounds like heaven 😂

I feel the same. My area in WA has been inundated with CA people.

Okay?
@@darlenemurray5873 being super humid t and hot in the middle of the state is the worst. My wife and I would move to Asheville but then the drugs and crime are horrible, east coast is underdeveloped. Time to move to Florida, AZ or Utah.

Too many Yankees. As a Yankee whose father's side came from Rutherford county. I spent a lot of time there decades ago. Now I work remotely on contract for a company in NC. 75% of the people I work with there do not have a southern accent. Oh and once you see your first Rhino Beetle you'll be moving. I would spend a week every year of my childhood at my grandparents in NC. They didn't have A/C. I visited during the Summer. It didn't seem to bother me then. At 60 now? Yeah, it would bother me. All in all, too many Yankees. They've ruined the state.
Left NC after 21 years. This state does nothing for the people. Hight corporate and individual taxes. Good luck.
Move away! Stay away! Our infrastructure can’t support you
You move away then.
Yes, the snakes and bugs. My top reason. The heat was another reason…. I was born raised in Kinston, NC…1964… “the best barbecue”
