In this video, we will be looking at the 10 statistically best cities in South Carolina to live in. South Carolina has some great cities like Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Columbia, and Greenville. But statistically speaking the cities on this list would be the best. If you are surprised about one of these cities are on the list or one that isn't we would love to hear about it in the comment section.
South Carolina is an amazing state that I think is often overlooked as a good option for relocation.
This series is about the Best Cities to live, in the United States. We will be uploading 1 a week until we run out of states. I hope you enjoy the series.

I’ve been diligently working and saving and contributing towards financial freedom and early retirement, but the economy so far since the pandemic has eaten away most of my portfolio, what I want to know is this: Do I keep contributing to my portfolio in these unstable markets or do I look into alternative sectors.
Just try diversifying your portfolio to other market sectors, that way your investment is balanced and you don’t get to make so much losses.
I think stocks will plummet further before actually experiencing steady growth and there are still quite a few stocks that makes for a good buy this season, you just have to do your research, but to be on the safer side and not second guess your market decisions, I’d suggest you reach out to a proper investment manager for guidance, they’re better equipped at understanding market patterns/movements and adjusting portfolio to match up with these market trends.

We lived in Pendleton, a tiny town sitting close to Clemson. Loved it...after extensive search on east coast, bought a large, historic home empty for 25 years. Moved into one room and bath , with three light bulbs and a resident ghost. Restored the building and opened Liberty Inn and Dining. Locals were friendly and supportive folks!!! Hope to visit sometime soon!

It has had many problems mainly because no local law enforcement and it takes sherrifs out of Anderson a bit to get there. plus no affordable housing. My Mother grew up there and my Grandparents had a general store on the square. We went to the Baptist church there.

Real estate in the South has doubled and tripled since everybody from up North started moving down here
People in the Northeast Megalopolis rave about how cheap the South is but honestly, the South by and large is a lot more expensive than the Midwest. Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, hell even Chicago isn't too pricey compared to places like Dallas, Atlanta, Charleston, Austin, Miami, Orlando, Charlotte, RDU, etc.

I work in Mount Pleasant. It is a pretty nice town, though you’ll have to get used to snobby people and heavy doses of traffic.
Sounds like Greenville, but at least you’re closer to the beach

our roads are NOT made for this many people... at all. It's ridiculous how long it takes to drive 15 miles in the morning and afternoon now.

I live in Lyman SC now but lived 5 mins away from Five Forks in Simpsonville. I love the Upstate so much I drive an hr and a half to work in Columbia and back everyday. Just a great area for a family. Not to mention were 2 hrs from Atlanta, 1 hr from Charlotte NC, 45 mins from Asheville NC and 2 and a half hrs from Pigeon Forge TN.

I spent 22 years in the Navy and have lived in Many places in the US and I have retired in #5 Fort Mill and I really love it here, it's a nice area with a small town feel, Very good city gov't and public works, close to shopping areas and malls and Carowinds amusement park "when not in COVID shutdown". Housing costs and such are reasonable. And the big factor for me......NO SNOW!!!
Nice list. My family and I have lived in Columbia, SC since 2009 but moved to Newberry about a year ago. It’s another one of those small towns that is growing a lot and it’s a much nicer place to live than the capitol.
Summerville is beautiful. Been here since 2003 from NJ. Love it.
I love Summerville! It’s getting even nicer with Nexton being built with all the new restaurants and gyms etc
Summerville is turning into a horrible version of everything wrong with the northeast.

And Nexton can go straight to the 9th circle of hell for what they did to those pristine forests.
That level of clear cutting is straight up land abuse.
And what they are doing all over Dorchester county should be criminal.
It is and will be an even worse heat island. Just wait.
I will agree that it is getting/will get to crowded to have any fun in Nexton but that pristine forests was just a tree farm for years that they just stop harvesting it
I think Summerville has some good sites
and stores by Knightsville, Lincolnville, and downtown. Just by the Newton area by Lowe’s gets a little crowded but it’s still a nice place to live. I would rate it a 8/10 just because of the Nexton area being crowded and stinky.
Please do video on small towns to retire, budget focus, for lots and possibly mfg/ modular homes zoned. Great information!

I live in Blythewood, just north of Columbia. It’s great here and housing costs are fairly priced.

Charleston,SC is my hometown and will always have a place in my heart. Columbia,SC isn’t bad either.
Columbia Native here. I like Columbia for it's low cost of living (compared to Greenville, Charleston, or Charlotte. I loved there too). The only thing that bothers me about Columbia everything is slow meaning slow to change or adapt to get new things (entertainment, different stores, etc) and ideas. You can tell McMasters does not want to change anything. Very old way of thinking and it can get boring. Yuk if you are young and want something exciting I would not recommend Columbia. If you are coasting like in your retirement years, I would recommend.

I was born and raised in Greenwood, SC which is about 1hr away from Greenville. I love Greenville, I always go there to shop. My granddaughter's father lives in Bluffton SC, and she loves it when she goes to visit him during summer and, spring break.
I have been in Fort Mill for 17 years, the growth is staggering. We have friends that are real estate agents, and for them it is easy money, homes rarely last a day and they are overbid. One thing about Tega Cay, pretty much one way in and one way out, traffic is brutal, and Lake Wylie is, well, nasty. If you really want nice lakes to visit in SC, try Lake Jocassee, or Keowee.
As mentioned in another comment, Travelers Rest is a gem.
We have an RV trip planned stopping in Fort Mill. Looking forward to it, I haven't been there in such a long time. Want to revisit Charlotte and Rock Hill as well.

Yep. Those two lakes in upstate.
Lakes Keowee and Jocassee could go up against any lake in the country in my opinion! Of course I live near them both. Also not many lakes can boast having waterfalls spilling into it.

The traffic around charleston is a killer

Yeah but it's nothing like Atlanta. We go to Charlestown all the time from Columbia. It used to be amazing till they renovated the slave market and dredged out the bay at Rainbow row to bring in cruise ships. They did ruin downtown. Those people do nothing but take up space. They aren't shopping they are walking. Meals are all included on those ships. So there is no real uptick in the restaurants it's just crowded with people. We go out to the Isle of Palms. Coconut Joes rooftop bar 🍻 anybody

Mauldin SC...we have almost 5,000 new homes under construction right now...they are due for completion by the summer of 2022! It is a great community to live in and you are correct about escalating property values! What used to be a bedroom community of Greenville, SC IS now on the verge of being a destination all on its own.
I was born in Illinois, but after a stint in Georgia, I've lived in Midlands and now Upstate SC for 3 years. I love it here.

I love Hilton Head island and Edisto Island! Both are beautiful. I like Edisto because it's not commercialized like a lot of places, they have kept it local and it's just a very interesting place with lots of history and beauty.
Just got back from two weeks in (hopefully) one of these places in SC, about five days ago; really looking forward to the move in a couple years.

just moved from fl. currently in liberty. i have previously lived in anderson and powdersville n loved it. i was glad to get out of fl. the vibe from people in comparison is so much better here. only bad thing is the traffic lol
I live outside Fort Mill,SC in Rock Hill.Its a great city,like 10 minutes from Charlotte,3 hours from Myrtle Beach&3 from Ashville&Maggie Valley
Wow! Hanahan must have change A LOT! I was at Charleston Southern in the ‘90’s. We were warned to avoid going there especially after dark!
I researched South Carolina years ago. I fell in love with it! My two picks are Charleston and Greenville.
2 very different cities. I have lived in both of them and prefer the eastern part of the state.
Both great cities. I was born in Greenville and grew up there but moved to Charleston and currently live on James Island.
@@daughteroftherepublic7166 We just got back from an RV trip to James Island which is 100 miles exactly from our home in Myrtle Beach. Amazing place, surprisingly close to downtown Charleston. Lots of historic charm all around.
I was born and raised here in Greenville it's a great place for family and for starting a business we have fall for Greenville every year great showcase for businesses some okay schools but I wouldn't recommend a long term stay it's becoming congested and a little pricey in my opinion
@@cookingwithsoul1498 I've lived there but would never go back. Greenville is an "average" American city in every way it seems. It's what you make of it, I guess.
Fort mill is awesome! But getting super crowded, this small town wasn't designed for its population. But alas they keep building more subdivisions and are currently building a huge medical center right down the road from me.
My jaw dropped when you said five forks, because I never thought of it as a town, just a place to drive through to get to work. But you are right! In the past 5 years construction hasn’t stopped, growth for sure.

I live in mauldin sc and houses are being built like crazy right now. New subdivision popping up everywhere. Best part about mauldin is you're right next door to Greenville and Simpsonville.

I've lived downtown in Greenville, Greer, Mauldin and Simpsonville. As houses and apartments went up and traffic got worse and worse I said screw it and moved West of Jocassee near sr130. Life out here crime rate, high school graduation rate and neighbors income are the least of my problems... Its finding those dang .223's and .224's
You should have mentioned Simpsonville. We are sandwiched between five folks and Mauldin.
Excellent video Mr.Briggs !;the Palmetto state to me has always caught my eye, I’ve only driven through it a handful of times, but I reckon at some point I’ll visit some of its cities and parks, maybe live if that’s in my future:).
Go in the summer so you'll experience that heat. Make sure it's not a deal breaker.

I recommend the Beaufort area which includes bluffton and Hilton head, good tourist area if you don’t want somewhere crowded like myrtle beach
My wife grew up in Mount Pleasant. You are right about the prices. However, it is, according to her, entirely too congested now. I have to agree (we live in the Summerville area now: pretty decent with regard to crime, education, etc., and much better with regard to housing price. Decent houses start at 200K).

I live in Summerville and love it! Although I do agree the traffic is getting unbearable. I'm retired so don't have to deal with it that much.

I just moved from yonkers ny to spartanburg SC... it's slow not fast like the city but very nice and cheap to live I love it....I had a little apartment in yonkers have a nice house and my little apartment in NY rent is more than my house down here I have four bedrooms and front and back yard
I'm from N.Y. but my Mom's side lives on James Island, S.C., close to the beach - with downtown Charleston about 5 miles away.
Very, very nice little town.
Went to the Tiga Cay lake once, as well. Great place but expensive.
Fort Mills, SC is probably more affordable and is the home of Pastor Rick Joyner's church, MorningStar.

I lived in Five Forks some years ago before moving back to Mauldin. It was wonderful. My house was nowhere near the price range you are quoting, but it has been sixteen years since I lived there.
I moved from PA to Easley sc a month ago loving the quiet life.
Basic Training at Fort Jackson and I can remember SAND for soil. Also, not doing morning PT twice b/c at 45 degrees, it was too cold outside. Some of us, from the north east, thought that was hilarious.
I did AIT at Jackson, and our drill sergeants didn't give AF what the temperature was outside.
Definitely #1 should realistically be Greenville, no question about it. Greer, Travelers Rest, Simpsonville, and basically everything surrounding is growing and are all nice areas to live. I work in Greer and I have many customers that are moving here from the North. The beach is 3 and a half hours drive away, mountains are less than a hour, big lakes are less than an hour, Charlotte and Atlanta are about 2 hours away. We have a really nice baseball stadium in the west end and our downtown is second to none. Great colleges like Furman, wofford, Greenville tech, and Clemson are all close. There's good food like middle eastern, Thai, Indian, pizza, sushi, and of course southern.
Moving to Greenville next month!! Im soo excited. Need something smaller than Chicago, but all the big city fun. I love downtown, have stayed there twice!

Lived in SC my entire life and it’s growing pretty fast particularly a lot of the more rural areas Elgin, Blythewood, Chapin. The cost of living is pretty low so I see a lot of people who move here to retire. As far as crime yes some areas are better others but it’s everywhere most of the time kids in the neighborhood. Taxes are pretty high in some areas. Some of the areas on this list are good places but they are becoming very congested with the new neighborhoods popping up on every corner. So do your research ask locals before you decide coming here. Also if your looking for entertainment some of the areas don’t have much so if you like the mid paced lifestyle it’s right for you.

Used to live in Tega Cay, it was a really nice place. Only thing that I hated was the traffic.
I grew up in Tega Cay when Dean was the golf pro and we had 1 cop car. Those were the days
Mt. Pleasant population is more like 90,000 and growth is nuts (as is traffic) Great parks, schools, close to the beach
You are right, rich people now think they own the beach, parking meters, rules on renting 3 days for a beach wedding. It was beautiful once … no open beaches unless you are rich…
I live in five forks! I would say it’s definitely up there with one of the best places to live. There is a lot to do here! Granted we moved here before it really started growing but we are super happy here!

Some nice places here. I am partial to James Island and Mt Pleasant, but surprised beautiful Beaufort did not make it. Maybe they scored poorly in HS grad rate, but it isxmy favorite - roughly halfway between Charleston & Savannah - about an hour or so in either direction. I also like GVL, so your #1 is probably a good investment.
I think aiken sc is really nice, its rated the best small town in the south by southern comfort magazine. its 20-30 min from augusta and theres a huge forest in the middle of downtown for hiking and horseback riding. might be on the higher side when it comes to housing prices but its a great place with amazing vibes. Plus theres always live music somewhere.

Crime is horrible in Aiken.
I seriously thought about retiring in Aiken until I found the Savannah River Site.
@@Atricks861 it is not. I literally live in Aiken and crime isn't bad. Aiken is the best town SC has to offer. Sure it has its ups and downs but overall great place.
@@noone.1509 I left in 2012 but the last month I was there there were 3 police officers murdered downtown in one month.
North Augusta is an incredible town with very little traffic but has all the amenities within a short distance. We bought a nice home on the edge of the woods and with taxes and insurance our mortgage is $800 a month. No drought, no hurricanes, no forest fires, no earth quakes and mild winters. It was a great move and the folks are, for the most part, courteous and respectful.

Northerns moving to FL then to SC or NC is totally a thing. They're affectionately known as Halfbacks. The Charlotte metro is awash with them as well as retirees moving directly to Carolinas. So much so there are two Del Webb Sun City communities within unincorporated Fort Mill Twp, one of them is 2.36sqmi over twice the size of the towns I grewup in up in NJ.
Lived in Fort Mill, SC from 2007-2020, it's a beautiful, friendly, & largely safe community with most major crime issues being related to spillover from Charlotte. We'd still be living there if a job opportunity hadn't presented itself to allow us to move to the beach. Now we're enjoying the beautiful South Carolina coastal life.
Wish these northern go back home! We don't like their political view in our state! They screw up their state! But don't want to fix the problems they created! So if you are a Liberal Northern go home!
Pretty much the same thing for my family, we just moved to Pawleys from the Furman area of Greenville, That little spot between Berea and Travelers Rest.
Beach life is so much nicer once you find a quiet section away from MB proper.
I'll admit as a person living in NYC lots of us have had enough so we'd obviously look for a place the opposite quiet and peaceful

Wow, Hanahan is #2? I lived in Goose Creek, the connecting town, and we thought of Hanahan as a place to avoid. When I found a great looking house in a decent looking area, my realtor said, nope it’s on the outskirts of Hanahan. So we opted to live on a property out at Lake Moultrie, in the country. Cheaper, but further from everything.
No way in hell I would live in Hanahan. Goose Creek HS looks like a prison.
@@Mike-yj5yw most people who live in Hanahan don't go to Goose Creek HS they go to Hanahan HS. There is a small section on the border of people who might attend Goose Creek HS because they are on the border of Hanahan and Goose Creek.
I guess the main issue with Goose Creek is Red Bank Rd.
Hanahan!! No way!! Trust me though, after the halfbacks finish running out the natives, then maybe I would consider.

This was pretty good. Anywhere around Charleston is the pits. The traffic is awful. Greenville and her surrounding towns are lovely. Ft. Mill is also charming, and known for excellent schools. I am staying put in Beaufort.
It is the traffic. Not the people, the food, the prices, the paper mill smells from over yonder, so no offense to all those who battle the traffic. My husband does work in Charleston, after all!
Add Myrtle Beach, Columbia, Clover, York, Greenville, Rock Hill if you can
Myrtle Beach is a very big crime area anymore.
The funny thing about Mauldin is that it's so close to Greenville that there's a Mauldin Road that you can get on in Greenville and be in Mauldin proper within 10 minutes. Mauldin is its own city, but because it's so close to Greenville native residents just treat it like it's Greenville to the chagrin of Mauldin residents, LOL. 😂

I was born and raised in Beaufort SC? I lost my home to a fire a few years back? And I miss SC so much! I currently reside in southern Ohio it’s cold as crap here! I personally don’t like the cold myself .

I live in Bluffton. I can see Hilton Head Island when I take my dogs for a walk. Can't get closer to the island than actually living on the island where I am. Right before the bridge on the back road that the tourists found out.

Great information for a native looking to move back
My Grandmother lived on Lake Murray back in the early 70's, in a small town called Balentine. About 30 miles from Columbia.
Ballentine is within what he refers to as "Lake Murray of Richland" (this is not a actual town or municipality but a Census Designated Point) which would also have White Rock, and parts of Irmo within it as well. I boat there and it is a nice place, although currently the densest population Point around Lake Murray..
I used to live in Fort Mill we had to move away for work. I’d move there above Florida any day. Drivers are insane though.

It’s a suburb of Greenville but we live in Simpsonville which borders it and to me Simpsonville is just as nice if not better. It’s where Five Forks is also, the other area mentioned which isn’t a city.

As a resident of James Island (# 9 on your list) there are TWO municipalities on the island; The Town of James Island AND The City of Charleston. The City of Charleston has annexed most of James Island over the last 50 years, the rest is in the Town of James Island. In my neighborhood it goes "house to house" what municipality you're in. I'm in Charleston like my neighbor on one side, my neighbor on the other side is in James Island as are the ones across the street. Enjoying your videos and I thought you did a good job presenting the facts in your video here.

I’m from Cali, once I got out the army I lived in fort mill and loved it. I recently moved back to Cali October last year and we are moving back to fort mill by the end of the year. It’s the best place.

PDX used to be a great city until Antifa, Weenie Wheeler and Dopey Brown trashed it. I lived in Seattle 5 years, and one in Lake Oswego, right on the Willamette. I enjoyed it then, but likely NOT now. You will like the sun and milder weather, other than the heart of summer, where the Rose City was more pleasant than Southern heat & humidity.

I was born in Charleston. I grew up in Charleston and Mt. Pleasant. Recently I moved from Summerville to Alabama. We got hurricanes or floods every single year for six or seven years in Charleston. Real Estate prices are outrageous. Traffic is awful. People who are moving to Charleston will only like it if they are coming from Buffalo, NYC, or Washington D.C. I despise my hometown and the entire area. I could tell you where heaven is in northeast Alabama, but I don't want more people here! You get an amazing house here for fixer upper in Goose Creek.

I live by Lake Murray. Moved here from Atl years ago. I love it here. The towns are IRMO, Chapin, and Lexington. Not far from Columbia. Great Lake, shopping, restaurants, schools, etc.
Which of the 3 would you recommend for someone who is artistically inspired and like the idea of tranquility?
I'm a coast type of guy. So anything on or very close and easy to get to the coast. I'm for that city. I'm actually surprise Beaufort wasn't on this list. It's the best looking and friendly city there is. I was actually living in Port Royal. But spend half and half my time at Beaufort, SC. Plus it's affordable to live here, by shopping around of course.

I was shocked to see where I live at #1! My property value is definitely up almost 50% from what I paid 7 years ago. The sad thing is that with all the growth all of the natural spaces are getting torn down for housing and the roads are getting pretty strained with the increase in traffic.
