- I open a box of 22/23 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey Hobby Box trading cards featuring 24 packs and 8 cards per pack. Matty Beniers, Owen Power and Matt Boldy headline the YG crop.

Upon first glance I love the base design this year. I'd even say it is one of the best they've had recently. The nameplate area is minimal to give more space for the action photo, and the color-matched "ball-of-energy" texture accents the entire card very well with the jersey in the photo. Only tweak I would do is maybe increase the player name font size a point or two, and maybe add the team logo bottom right. The photography is top notch. The backs look crisp as well and makes good use of space (last season there were weird gaps between the player's informational blurb and the footer). Looking forward to grabbing these, especially any Kraken!
Thanks for this! I was debating on grabbing a box. Decided not too. Sticking with hunting bedard. His acetate stars card just sold for $2000! Can't imagine what his exclusives or high gloss would go for. For 90 bucks a box its a pretty fun rip. Not to mention, you're garenteed a acetate card which is dope! Please make a hunting bedard series lol 🙏
I just bought a fat pack from Target and it was just base cards, and only play from my favorite team. And it was my first hockey break.
The look of the Debut Dates and Rookie Retrospective are an improvement over previous years. I had one Young Gun that had the rough cut like they were cut with a butter knife, but overall the quality seems improved.

Quality control from the 7 boxes I recorded tonight were all pretty good. I enjoy the inserts this year but that dazzler is more of a salmon than pink lol
It sucks that Upper Deck has watered down the young guns with the release of Extended. There’s no need for 150 young guns each year

Maccelli photo is from 21/22 season. He played in Liiga (Finland) the seasons prior to the 21/22 season.
I love the color match on the base cards, freestyles looks pretty cool, and I love the dazzler design this time around
The color coordination of the young guns list showing the top 5 and so on was very helpful/cool, I like that!
Oh boy don't want to jump the gun but at two packs in , considering the cost of the box, I'm not buying one flipping box of this. I'll wait for series two, possibly.
Nice to see the new stuff. Inserts look nice, especially the Freestyle one. Gonna try to pick up a box or 2.
On players found together, I did see a box for Sabre Lovers. It had both the Owen Power and the Jack Quinn YG's.

Purchased three hobby boxes. Pulled two Beniers that at absolute best are PSA 9 quality, but more like 8. None of the other "top 15" except Spence. Love the design of the inserts this year and Free Style is super slick. Like almost everything else in the hobby it's too expensive for what you get (unlike prior boxes that had Caufield/Kaprizov your top YG doesn't even cover the cost of your box) but with that said this is a big improvement on quality and design imo

I got a box. Best hit was tim stutzle clear cut base. Yeah not the best box I got. I just want the ygs set and base. I like it.
