Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

David is so inspiring. To know that he could get out of a depression with no job, living at home into something he'd always dreamed of really gives me hope.
I’m from Cambodia, a poor country in Asia, and my career dream is to direct a feature film in Hollywood in the future. I believe in “Workhard Payoff”. Thank for sharing, man.
great!
Best luck on your journey Seakieng
good luck and all the best brother/sister
Be strong and confident you can do it
Good Lucky , my friend!
As an aspiring filmmaker, this has to be one of my favorite interviews of all time
David has an amazing story. It inspires us all.
This video is pure magic. 30 minutes after watching this I got a call with an offer to be a director on a very interesting project. I feel like it gave me so much positive vibes and hope that it affected the Universe.
The best part is when he's asked if he could've ever imagined his movies making USD800M and he's like "well... yeah" xD It's so honest and I think to make that in the end you need to have some of that mentality. He's still really humble and doesn't think he's better than anyone, which is just really, I guess, pure.
I bought Lights Out on Blu Ray today, because he is one of the most humble talented film directors in Hollywood. Even after his success, still down to earth. This a person I support 100%...
David F. Sandberg is such an inspirational filmmaker. Who not only experiences well-deserved success, but continues to give back to the community through his UA-cam channel. What an amazing talent. And what better channel to interview him than Film Courage.
Best interview ever , David you are my new favorite motivational director
The kind of interview I was waiting for. David Sandberg is just an inspiring Cinderella story from making home-made cinematic horror short films for streaming which went viral... to make of his 3rd film a superhero blockbuster! I still would love to see a David Sandberg horror movie shot in Sweden, his culture, his language, his vision, since they have beautiful cinematic horror pieces. His behind-the-scenes & tutorial videos are such a film school for me, and that makes him so down-to-Earth and very humble, being now a Hollywood filmmaker sharing his secrets not many of them would dare to do that. And he’s a fantastic film director! I still remember when viral film “Lights Out” came to my mail, and fell off my chair by how scared I was. And now “Annabelle: Creation” and then “Shazam!”... just WOW!!!
I love David Sandberg in this interview, he is down to Earth and humble. Really inspiring.
I remember seeing Lights Out on Reddit all those years ago. Amazing job and so happy for you and your success! Thanks for sharing your passion with us all!
love this channel. Thank you for always providing these gems. Inspirational indeed. Love David's attitude and approach all the way.
His five part behind the scenes on Annabelle creation , to me is film school 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I’ve been making shorts for a while and more recently submitting to script contests. As I reach my 30s I find myself getting really depressed thinking I’ll never be able to reach my goal while maintaining life and work. Right now I’m working a job that leaves me absolutely no time to work on film projects and now I’m scattering to find something a little more doable with my goals. I found listening to your experiences starting out really refreshing. Thank you.
This guy is the real deal. So much great information.
This interview should play in every film class. It’s quite inspiring
We've been waiting for this!
Glad we are finally able to deliver. Hope it is worth the wait.
Everything he says is so unbelievably relatable to me! An underrated director!
Been waiting for the full interview. Thanks! Being a filmmaker from Sweden, seeing David F Sandberg, and David Sandberg (Kung Fury) getting noticed/discovered is really inspiring. It's great that studios is taking a chance on unknown talent. Hope they both have a long and successful career.
Refreshing to listen to his perspective
Thanks for the comment and for watching Matthew!
honestly thanks to David he has inspired me that I can do anything if I try hard enough and never give up because one day I could make a short that brings me to Hollywood so you never know when you are going to hit success.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thanks Braden, we are grateful for your support. Keep creating.
One of the best interviews you guys had made. Thank you.
v down to earth dude and loved lights out the short - legend in my book - not to forget his wife who supported him on all the shorts and his journey - (much respect to them both).
Great! Great! Great! Interview! Such a fan of David F. Sandbergs! This was awesome to see how he got his start to where he is now! I’m only wishing nothing but the best for him and can’t wait to see what’s next for him!!! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Yess been waiting for this to come out!
Glad this one found you Thad, hope you enjoy.
Film Courage you really have done a great job, you deserve more subscribers... I really learn a lot about filmmaking thanks for everything FC
I just watched 30 mins of this without realizing it was an hour long
Thank you so much!! You guys are the best 🙏🏼
Cheers Jose!
An insightful interview and an inspirational story. I look forward to watching his films. (I've only seen the Lights Out short film.)
this fella is one of my favorite sources of insight
Awesome! Thank you so much for doing this =)
Your channel is my favourite!
Thanks, we're fortunate that we were able to spend a little time with David. Appreciate your support!
He's a fantastic role model.
"It was pretty crazy because i had never been on a movie set before so first time I actually stepped on a film set it was as a director".
David is awesome. Thanks for all your help!
amazing interview, thank you Film Courage!
Cheers, this one goes to David F. Sandberg for being awesome!
Thank you David and fc😍
Wow! Such a great Interview!!
Never clicked anything faster
Wisdom. David is sharing serious wisdom here about each phase of filmmaking.
Wow! Straight to directing a big Hollywood studio movie from UA-cam horror shorts!
I enjoy the short vids, but appreciate these long full interviews as well. Great for putting them on in the background while working.
I assume you have, but have you thought about turning them into a podcast?
Here's a link to our Soundcloud - soundcloud.com/filmcourage-com It's not as extensive as our work here on UA-cam.
@@filmcourage Oh, right on. I mainly use UA-cam for them but this might be nice to have. Thanks!
You guys should do a podcast series with David!
@@user-jf8wb3tt8b Thank you for watching, Thad. Here is a podcast version: soundcloud.com/filmcourage-com/david-f-sandberg-podcast
The humbleness is wonderful
Your Channel motivated me to start making short films with my 5yo son.. Thanks for making these video interviews 👍 from Germany 🇩🇪
Cheers! Keep creating! 🇩🇪
great interview! thank you
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Great interview! And 2 years later, that second $100M movie is coming out.
I love this channel and these interviews! I suggest to interview Katie Locke O’Brien! She is so talented, so down to earth and so inspiring!
I for one, welcome our new king of Spain
Love this guy.
always you are my inspiration Sir
14:56, love that. How insane and overwhelming that must have been. Lights Out is a fantastic movie.
I could listen to him talking about film making all day
David S. talking about David F., at some point. 2 of my fav directors.
I'm amazed at how folks from Nordic countries often speak English with almost no accent. I'm not sure if that's because of their education system, or if their native accent just lends itself well to speaking English.
what a mind! this guy is really something👏
love this guy!
It's interesting that aftermath depression he talks about. I kinda felt the same after finishing my first short film
It's like he's my predecessor. The only difference besides him being a pro is that I never got a camera when I was younger. This was interesting to see nonetheless. Thank you for this.
It's never too late man
This was just amazing
Thanks for watching!
Only 16k views??? This interview is awesomeeeee
Thanks Israel, we're glad this one found you.
He's the proof that studios are currently looking for news faces in the business that comes with quality and a better PRICE
to shoot something, rather than a guy like James Wan that would be millions dollars to shoot the same stuff. There's hope!
like a corporate company, hiring new talent, cheaper can be trained, letting go of the old ones that are expensive old tricks, nobody is safe in life
Good questions. Articulate answers. Glad i watched this.
🎬🎥🔥
Would you ever consider making a video about how someone who is introverted or has social anxiety can make it into the film industry as a director, screenwriter etc.
Here's one - ua-cam.com/video/pZfMjFJVS_s/v-deo.html

Lights out
He's great
Its so weird to see a Swedish director ignoring Bergman. Glad that you've ask him but still his response was a bit surprising.
Shoutout to the dude on reddit who linked to Lights Out!!
"Do you believe in the law of attraction?" - Oh, come on interviewer!!
It works. You watched our video. Thank you!
@@filmcourage David doesn't subscribe to it according to your interview.
I actually liked that question.. 👍 Law of attraction or called different but worked for me.
I wish I work with this guy
A really good interview and as a Swede, I´m very proud of David. But as a typical Swede :) I have to insert one minor complaint: I wish David would wait for the interviewer to finish her sentence before he would start to answer the question. Just out of respect for the interviewer. Other than that it was a really enjoyable interview and refreshing to hear some other answers than what is typically delivered in theses kind of interviews.
Will this be out in podcast form?
Yes, we will be releasing it on our Soundcloud soon.
Thanks again for watching, Rubel. Here it is: soundcloud.com/filmcourage-com/david-f-sandberg-podcast

The lesson from his story is you gotta marry your middle school sweetheart and stay faithful to get that good karma. 👌👌👌

Expensive
From UA-cam to trying to scam other UA-camrs: ua-cam.com/video/_HrR5X72_LM/v-deo.html
Why is this interviewee obsessed with the money aspect? No art should be driven by money and he is politely expressing this but still the questions keep coming.
Sweden failed to give money to a guy that end up making 800 milion bucks with his first movies... this is an example that tax money dont go where they need to go ...
I don't believe that he actually directed Shazam . They just wanted his viewers . His shorts was very good but not great, not that great. It's just a publicity scam to create hype . Like kid Producers who don't really produce but use Ghost producers .
He's proud of Shazam? Wow. Next: Cats Part Deux. We all know holly wood (the wood used to make magic wands of the Druids) are multigenerational acting families and is CLOSED. There are a few here and there that are allowed to eat the poop or other nifty things required to be in high budget movies (take The Rock for example. He said you have to be willing to do ANYthing to make it, and he sure did ANYthing), but seriously, no one doesn't realize what holly wood is: ChiCom employees with the Moloch/Baphomet/other fairy tale here belief systems.
Wtf are you even talking about?
@@hellonhead5905 Who tf promoted you as my judge. I know learning is hard. You are dismissed.
@@jeffspinner6579 wtf? Do u type the first words thats predicted in your keyboard or what?
@@hellonhead5905, better sophistry and ad hominem attack, but unfortunately, if it's ONLY ad hominem, you concede you cannot attack my argument, but only _some projection of yourself as a person named jeff._ I humble accept you concede defeat.
2/0.
Please try again. As an ancient chinese proverb once said: Place a rock in water and it sinks. Tie 3 rocks together, ..., and they still sink.
Exactly, what was the theoretical benefit for trying to be insulting? You _do_ understand that the only time an attempted insult is insulting is when the _target agrees._
That's why I've always laughed my head off when feral humans go berserk when cliche insults are hurled at them: they believe it to be true. Otherwise, it's just sound signifying nothing. Like a queef.
Food for thought, between your grammar school invectives. They do allow for a teachable moment, which is like pearls to swine anyways, as quoted by Keanu Reaves character in Cyberpunk 2077... I'm on a break from CP2077, so I could waste this time. Back to something I enjoy now.
@@jeffspinner6579 where's the insult bud? You feel insulted?
Thanks for this great interview. I'm gonna become a great artist in the film industry someday!
