Thank you U so much, David. This mastepiece I was looking for a long time ago. The track has been released only in a floppy disk format in an issue of Guitar Player. Back in 1988, I discoverd Robben Ford thrue this amazing song. The guitar solos are really amazing, full of feeling and musicality. The phrases are really into the real blues but with a bit of modernity. Well done.
David thank you so much! What a hit of nostalgia. And a reminder of how hard that track hit me back in 1988. I couldn't believe such playing was possible. That GP issue changed my life. Not only did it introduce me to Robben but the boogie quad preamp review convinced me to buy one. Still got it! And I still love that track!
Me too ! My first teacher made me listen to this when i was about 13 ... And i was- ¿¿¿What te hell i just listen man ??? Then a i bought it and lost it overtime ...
Thanks for sharing David ! Robben is such an amzing and unique guitar player!!! I remember seeing him play in Amsterdam, the Netherlands a long time ago. And I still have this soundpage from Guitar Player Magazine too....!
I bought this in 1988. Was a game changer for me. I did not realize how cool blues could be until then. Here i am in 2023. Been playing guitar since 1982. Thanks to modern technology (line 6 Pod GO) I can get pretty close to this tone thanks to the amp simulation technology.
Thanks for uploading this track! I had the flexidisc when I was a kid and this brings back so many great memories of sitting with my guitar and trying to figure the riffs out. I had lost the disc years ago and couldn't find this song anywhere so this is a pleasant surprise to hear it again!
funkyguitar01 Flexidisc -- thanks. And I never knew it was a Dylan tune. Apparently Robben didn't consider it good enough for TTYD. But yeah, lots of work figuring it out !
Outlaw Blues is apparently a Bob Dylan song, from Bringing It All Back Home (1965). I used to see Robben at Mikell's in NY around this time (check out this recording with Benson !). I was disappointed when TTYD came out, because it wasn't as good as the live shows. ua-cam.com/video/OrcU8gwxN8g/v-deo.html
I used to see Robben all the time at Mikells, such great shows. Do you remember the different bands he would bring in? Bob Malach,Chrris Hunter, Bill Boblitz, Dr Lonnie Smith , Gary Gold, Mike Clark. I have never heard Robben play again the way he played at Mikells.

I’ve never heard this! Some of his best recorded playing! That’s the Robben I saw play in about 1987. Phenomenal playing.

Ah yeeeeeah just found this track on an old cassette, and forgotten how much an influence Robben is on my own playing, absolutely brilliant

This song was part of the recording sessions of Talk to Your Daughter and regrettably not included on the record.
Maybe Robben was embarrassed that he played too well ! 🙂

Soooooo grateful to find this. Even if I never will be able to dial in this tone, which I've been chasing for over 30 years...
thank you for sharing this rare song from Robben Ford! So nice to listen XD
For those of you who never heard what a Dumble sounds like this is it. The SOUND. Thick and Juicy.
