Always--that's what makes him one of our musical treasures. Nothing but tons of soul and sophistication along with some serious down and dirty blues abandon if he so chooses. What a master!
His solo in this tune is Amazing. Blues, Jazz, and Soul. One of my Favorite blues along with a few others like I love you more than you’ll ever know,/BST. Love Robben.
Thanks for this, have a couple of versions by Robben. Totally unique player for me, cross jazz, blues and rock and the combination if his technique, finger plucking and heavy strings.... Rips me up every time.
Not to mention the soulfulness in the playing, singing and song choice. When the blues have you down and need to know you're not alone, Mr. Ford let's you know your not.
Always great . I had the privilege to play (a few years back) on the same stage with this gent, and my band warmed up for a man Robin was playing with at the time in Monterey. I believe it was the San Carlos ballroom. Unfortunately it doesn't exist anymore, but i will always cherish that night!!
+JoUtan01 I agree! - I searched eBay and bought a Fender Flame (the same as Esprit, without the coil split switch- which he almost never uses.). But it still sounds like me! - lol - not robben - I'm glad i got it anyway, though, as It is a great guitar.
Always thought that was one of the finest signature axes ever. With that beautiful guitar, I wish that would have been his go-to axe forever. I play the Ibanez AR420 now; close as I can get to that Esprit, and it's just a wonderful guitar too!
I agree. It was his signature tone. I snapped one up about 25 years ago and it's one of my favorite gutars all tiem. I later got a custom shop Elite and didn't like it very much. FWIW, Eastwood has "reissued" a faux-Esprit that with a few tweaks is awesome
Of all the Blues guitar players Robben Ford is my #1. Sorry SRV, B.B., Jimi etc. Guthrie Govan says "No one else can sound like Robben Ford" - and he is right!
Yeah finally a sax player that is using his head right to compliment Robben Ford and still do his thing. Band helps a lot of course but as a saxophonist my self I know it's important to phrase off the line as well as the lines in this setting. So thumbs up for this one; big fan of Robben Ford if he tours Europe and needs a sax player - Harp player Id be more than happy to do it as long as its on these lines . The problems arise when you hire a horn player usually a jazzer to play this stuff.,who run their lines irrespective of who or whatever there doing. Really like this
Yeah, I hear you on how well the sax player is really complimenting Robben on this. Superb phrasing like you said, yeah a guy more of a jazzer running hard bop lines wouldn't be good on this. I'd never heard of the sax player, he's quite good. I love his tone and how tasteful he is-just like Robben!
So I'm loving the video and the performance, when I realize I'd seen the drummer before somewhere... turns out I'd seen him live with the Head Hunters at Music Inn in Lenox, Ma
You know as much as I love him on the Tele and the 335s, I must say his Fender signatures really sound good. They have a such a thick, robust tone. I see them for 4 to 6 grand now and that's just little out of my range-ha ha. Someday maybe. I see you're a Strat dude too, can't go wrong with them. Totally prefer them now. I heard Robben on one a few years ago and woah, he sounded awesome!
HOW CAN THIS BE FROM 2014? I wish it was accurate of when it was performed , it looks like he is in his 30's, could be early 90's?(in 2014 he was 62yo) His band are so excellent here. Yes! that Bob Malach on the Sax, his grooves are so beautiful...perfect match for Robben & his friend Bob Boublitz on the Hammond B3 & Mike Clark on drums.
+Avisek Ganguly Every great musician has a "change of season/ direction" in their musical career. If you listen to whatever he plays, the signature playing is still there to be heard. This is one of my favorite Robben Ford songs! I wonder where these sidemen came from -I've never saw/heard of them before.
Mike Clark playing a slow shuffle for you... That's a real luxury.. (well deserved).
Geez what a player. To my ear, one of the best bluesmen ever.
Robbens playing is always right where it should be. Never too much, or too little. It is so soulful, and his knowledge and technique are perfect.
Ever notice how much Robben LOVES what he's doing?
Ever notice how much we love it too ? 😊
That’s why he’s so good.He loves what he’s doing and he’s got the musical knowledge to play just right!Classy blues with a touch of jazz.
Always--that's what makes him one of our musical treasures. Nothing but tons of soul and sophistication along with some serious down and dirty blues abandon if he so chooses. What a master!
THAT SOLO IS INSANE DUDE SHIEETTTTTTTTTTTTT
Best version of this tune I’ve ever heard and I’ve heard a lot of them.
So true. I always come back to this version. The solo is killer
Robben Ford just genius. So much passion
One of a kind. I have quite a few of his cd's, and all are fantastic.
His solo in this tune is Amazing. Blues, Jazz, and Soul. One of my Favorite blues along with a few others like I love you more than you’ll ever know,/BST. Love Robben.
Sax, organ, drums and Robben and you've got magic!! Wow!!
I REALLY wish this exact same band lineup had released an album or that there was at least more footage of them performing!
Yeah, they really sound good together-brilliant!
I enjoyed that...
The man is a fine musician...
I could listen to this all night and day.
Incredible guitar solo by Robben.
I met and talked with Robben Ford once, such a laid back unassuming dude.
Holy Kamolie, this is soooo fantastic, great tune, great musicians!!
From another world… wow! Love it ❤
Thanks for this, have a couple of versions by Robben. Totally unique player for me, cross jazz, blues and rock and the combination if his technique, finger plucking and heavy strings.... Rips me up every time.

wow Nick you hear so much in this...
@@nicksinderson3302 Yeah, so true-it's like I'm home when I listen to him. Total soulfulness in every note he plays.
Always great . I had the privilege to play (a few years back) on the same stage with this gent, and my band warmed up for a man Robin was playing with at the time in Monterey. I believe it was the San Carlos ballroom. Unfortunately it doesn't exist anymore, but i will always cherish that night!!
Wow! Jazzy blues! Epic! Loved it!💪👌
that's the best kind.
Tasty sax solo to boot 👢!!!
Robben is so fkn incredible as is the band
If you've seen the sheet music for this, the number of fancy chords in this arrangement is bananas. It's like 50+ or something.
Yep!!!
All kings!!! Mike Clark - superb!
❤ this song & him playing it!!!
what a happy man
Thumbs Up If You Want Robben Ford To Play His Old Fender Esprit Signature Guitar Again!..It Sounds Awesome!
+JoUtan01 I agree! - I searched eBay and bought a Fender Flame (the same as Esprit, without the coil split switch- which he almost never uses.). But it still sounds like me! - lol - not robben - I'm glad i got it anyway, though, as It is a great guitar.

Yo tengo una Fender Flame Elite !!!
@TD Welch I've got a regular Esprit and I can guarantee you they are no where near as heavy as the Les Paul he plays a lot these days
Of all the Blues guitar players Robben Ford is my #1. Sorry SRV, B.B., Jimi etc.
Guthrie Govan says "No one else can sound like Robben Ford" - and he is right!
I agree, it’s just not about how fast one plays. Robben has the feel that no one else has.
Love him! Love this song!!
I think Robben FORD gives exactly ELLINGTON's wishes and attempts
and perhaps even more about playing and feeling nothing but the blues !
Well stated, my sentiments exactly.
Great! Wonderful guitar work. Wow.
Yeah finally a sax player that is using his head right to compliment Robben Ford and still do his thing.

Assolo fantastico di Robben!!!
Che chitarrista
Welcome to Jazz Club... Nice.
Love this !
grande assolo di robben!!!!!!!!!!!
Bob Malach on Sax solo WOW...I had a chance to get a Black RF Fender ...bad time to not have $600.00 wish I had it now.
Sublime.merci beaucoup

Wonderful..
AT 3:28 TO AROUND 3:34/35 ROBBEN KICKS IT INTO ~SUPER-OVERDRIVE~ THAT'S PROBABLY THE FASTEST DOUBLE-PICKING I'VE EVER HEARD ROBBEN PLAY LIVE!!!!!
I don't think you've listened to enough RF :-) He can do that x 4
Viejo fan de el,todo maravilloso en estaplaca.
The guy is a feckin genius
killer solo
Killer everything.....
I also recorded this back in the 90's. Your recording held up much better. Great performance by a great guitar player.
Perfection
Robben told me he really likes Ronnie Earl. I love Ronnie Earl too.
Robben's Espirit guitar had a very distinctive sound: Sort of like a weird compromise between a 335 and a Tele, but all Robben Ford.
That's what that guitar was meant for! It's just that,, a hybrid of a fender strat/tele & a 335 gibson! That's from Robben himself.
I once owned the lower line Fender Flame which I regret selling. That was possibly the greatest product line that Fender put out!
And that's Bill Boublitz on keyboard.
Beautifully distorted Hammond.

Right on the money. Late 80's so he was late 30's...
Early ‘90s I would have thought, this is when Fender réal eased the signature RF Esprit guitar
No one smoother
why does robben not do this kind of stuff any more?
+Avisek Ganguly Every great musician has a "change of season/ direction" in their musical career. If you listen to whatever he plays, the signature playing is still there to be heard. joe votta that's true
Mike Clark on drums used to play with Herbie Hancock's Headhunters. Plays mostly jazz now.
joe votta this is a Duke Ellington song. Great version from robben
One reason, and probably the main one is,, Robben is almost 70!!!!!
Sublime.!!!!!
His signature axe so beautiful & elegant. Unfortunately discontinued
Agreed. Let's petition Fender to bring out a reissue--made in Mexico, then I may be able to afford one!
@@kingstumble
Yes!
@Ken Turnbull
I had the Epiphone Sheridan. I still sucked🤔
Pretty good vocal, too.
Early '90s? He really has a sophisticated, sweet blues feel. IMO, blows B.B. King away
solo maravilhoso
Duke Ellington!!
Sweet
このサムネのロベン、ジャコに似てる
Hammond + Leslie purring becomes grumbling, dominantly from 5:00 on.
Wonderful performance, but to the uploader: Please give the composer and lyricist of the tune credit-- Duke Ellington and Don George!
See kids those were the days when we kept our hair as shiny as our shoes and our pants as wide as the harmonic range of our tunes …
❤❤
When was the date of this performance?
JESUS.
Lyrics by Ira Greshwin..kinda hard to beat..
'cept that the're not. Lyrics by Don George who also wrote "I'm Beginning to See the Light."
Is that mike Clark playing the drums ?
I didn’t know Terry Silver can scream on guitar!
Is the interviewer Ben Sidran?
Yes
If only I knew half the chords he does.
I guess he simplified it a bit for a new group. It usually doesn't have a I VI II V turnaround.
Just saying it's different than the "Talk to Your Daughter" studio version. Sounds less complicated to me.
YeAH
쥐린다 쥐려 😮
His sound was the best when he used the Fender guitars. It just isn't the same anymore. Just my opinion.
I hope he cut back on flossing🤣.
No bass player?!
Organ.
Keyboard bass... like a jazz combo
Why are sax players so thin? 🫨
Clapton, Page all other British pretenders and copycats. Listen and learn.
He has tiny teeth
Really great player, but terrible blues singer. Respect otherwise.
