have you ever covered trauma center series? i have distinct memories of discovering the game through your videos but i cant find any video with the game.
Interesting video, but referring to these basic localization changes as "censorship" isn't terrible accurate. It's important not to conflate an outside body imposing changes on something with changes being made internally to match the region a media is released in.
3:57 Wait, then would this count? Is changing the name of something due to potential copyright issues be considered "censorship"? Genuine question here.
I wouldn't think so, as it's not changing something to avoid negative connotations or messing with the integrity of the product. I don't consider the Sega Genesis name to be censorship.
Jarvis may not necessarily be only censorship; Sometimes names were changed because in English they're too long. The most famous example I can think of is in Final Fantasy IV Gilbert was renamed to Edward and Edward was renamed to edge because Gilbert was one letter too long for the game to display. Though given the space that may not be the reason for this change in this case.
I mean, it's in the terms of their sponsorship that they have to say certain things for a given amount of time or they don't get paid. And these videos don't make themselves.
Interestingly in the U.K. Sonic Rush Adventure got rated 12+ by PEGI just because it contained the word “bugger” which is considered an offensive word over here. It ended up being released in that form. Eventually it did get censored in later versions and as a result the rated went down to 3+.
It’s ironic that just several years ago game companies went great lengths to keep anything that remotely resembles gambling out of certain games. Now we have games like 2K and FIFA that are just slot machines with a game featured on it.

1:41 when the real video starts.
“Skill based mini game called Voltorb Flip”? Yeah, right, biggest RNG crap in all of Pokémon. So many 50-50 choices. I hated it with a passion.
It can still be considered 'skill based' if the 'skill' involved improves your chances of winning or how much you win, right? It doesn't necessarily mean that if you're good, you'll win every time.
I never understood this game in HG and i wished for the machine slots to be back
Just a reminder that the guy behind Monkey Ball is also the guy behind Yakuza. The boob'd platforms make so much more sense! 😂
1:41 to skip the sponsors.
This is the first sponsorship that I'm actually tempted to try out
"WarioWare Gold" is an inferior title to "WarioWare Gorgeous" and I am willing to die on that hill
You’d think it would be wise to let kids experiment with gambling in Pokémon or harvest moon where it doesn’t matter so that they don’t jump into an actually harmful addiction later in life.
Didn't expect to see that WarioWare has some censorship!
Two DS videos in a row? That's right up my alley.
I would love to play that special edition of Monkey Ball lol. The phrase "funky like a monkey" definitely applies to it XD.
Hey DYKG.
I was just watching Umbrella Academy, S2 Ep.3, and at the 43:11 mark towards the end, a song plays that is undoubtedly influenced by The Song Of Storms, the notes are obvious. I thought you'd like to know for your Easter Eggs and References videos. One more thing also, I could be wrong, but at the 12:31 mark it sounds like Kokiri Forest theme as well.
How does one make a video about DS censorship and not mention the infamous “Japanafornia” censorship of Ace Attorney?
That wasn't censorship, it was adaptation. It wasn't changed based on being offensive or inappropriate, it was done to justify the removal of a massive number of Japanese cultural references that would have made the game unappealing to mainstream US gamers.
Apollo: *hilds up sushi*
Wright: "Eat your hamburger."
cause thats not censeorship, its localization
@@OtakuUnitedStudio agreed, its like when the rice balls in the pokemon anime were called doughnuts.
@@GabePuratekuta Traditional American kotatsu.
It’s not a “spiritual successor” if it’s literally an in-name sequel
Chibiterasu is the son of the goddess Amaterasu.
"The Pegi rating board is more strict to references of gambling when rating a game."
Looks at NBA 2K20: Oh yeah, definitely true.
Wait, how can a country have laws about things that happen outside of it? It's crazy.
The video *actually* starts here: 1:40
Child: “Islam is the light?”
Baby Pal: “Ha! You’re officially Muslim, kid! Got ya!”
3:51 I'm really glad this was changed, I used to spend hours on Voltorb flip
I'm just glad to see people still talking about the DS. Only true OG gamers know the experience of playing their DS at night at minimal volume so as not to wake anyone up.
I saw Dazz record the last part Live on Twitch! It was super cool! XD
btw, DYKG Has a Twitch channel. Please come and watch them stream games every weekday! Good times are had!
Mind Quiz: Your Brain Coach can still be purchased in the UK (for example, at CeX [say it as either "sex" "see-x" or "sea-e-x"]), although I'm not sure if they do warn you about the offensive line in the game.
Similar to Mario Party 8, as some PAL copies still contain the original line, but most PAL versions are the updated one. (Another way to tell if you have an original copy is the "Borders" in the game while playing any board map).
how the fuck can a corporation take someone to court because an ingame character has the same name as their corp when their corp is named after an actual personified name?
"Godly": No, Christians will get offended
"Death": Yeah, kids'll love that
Also can I just say how beautiful it is that someone had the word "REE" in that Scrabble footage
gen 4 pokémon has even more cenorship
mainly because of shitty to pointless localisation. like in the sinnoh library. in the japanese version, there's a book that says something like "back in the day, you could marry pokémon" - removed in the western versions
i hate our versions...
Man, this compilation reminds me how much humanity can be a toxic piece of shit at times.
Anyone else find Voltorb Flip delay frustrating? I grew up playing Diamond and it never made me want to gamble in any way shape or form. To be honest I just loved the music in the game corner. Not being able to outright buy coins anymore is also frustrating.
6:35 "Strategically placed" logos
Lmao
Hope some day this stupid censorship ends and let the games be judged by gameplay, story, mechanics and not some entitled people who saw a 5 min. Gameplay

have you ever covered trauma center series? i have distinct memories of discovering the game through your videos but i cant find any video with the game.
Imagine being so offended by a word that wasn't directed to you that you almost fell off the chair
The video officially begins at 1:40 - You're welcome :)
Interesting video, but referring to these basic localization changes as "censorship" isn't terrible accurate. It's important not to conflate an outside body imposing changes on something with changes being made internally to match the region a media is released in.
3:57
Wait, then would this count? Is changing the name of something due to potential copyright issues be considered "censorship"? Genuine question here.
I wouldn't think so, as it's not changing something to avoid negative connotations or messing with the integrity of the product. I don't consider the Sega Genesis name to be censorship.
9:52 what’s the code asking for a friend..
Great because I was expecting it to say “Islam is the light” it was all I could hear 🤣
Pareidolia will do that
Jarvis may not necessarily be only censorship; Sometimes names were changed because in English they're too long. The most famous example I can think of is in Final Fantasy IV Gilbert was renamed to Edward and Edward was renamed to edge because Gilbert was one letter too long for the game to display. Though given the space that may not be the reason for this change in this case.
Shill ends at 1:50
Scrubby Bubkinz lol. I mean they need to make money, but yeah sponser ads are usually annoying
Casey S sponsors already paid them
I mean, it's in the terms of their sponsorship that they have to say certain things for a given amount of time or they don't get paid. And these videos don't make themselves.
In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, there's now a clothing store where the Game Corner was.
These censorship videos always kinda makes me frustrated
Interestingly in the U.K. Sonic Rush Adventure got rated 12+ by PEGI just because it contained the word “bugger” which is considered an offensive word over here. It ended up being released in that form. Eventually it did get censored in later versions and as a result the rated went down to 3+.
Feel the Magic XY XX and its sequel Rub Rabbits were very under appreciated. Rub Rabbits was like my go to when showing off when the DS could do
weird that a game like Okami Den, a game all about japanese gods and deities, had to censor such a thing yet the original didnt have to.
Skip over the ad. Video starts at 1:41.
It’s ironic that just several years ago game companies went great lengths to keep anything that remotely resembles gambling out of certain games.
Now we have games like 2K and FIFA that are just slot machines with a game featured on it.
