Many different prescription medications can cause constipation also. Doctors never talk about this when they put you on something new. Actually, doctors that I'm familiar with don't talk about a lot of things giving you a heads-up on what to expect when starting on a new medication. Medication side effects are overwhelmingly numerous.
I was on the constipation/diarrhea merry-go round for years, then I started taking B12 and Magnesium. I also took probiotics, which, as it turned out, really helped me with other problems I was having. My probiotic changed, and I can't find another that suits me, but I still take my vitamins and make sure I eat a bowl of bran or shredded wheat everyday (brussels sprouts are excellent ,too). I also gave up coffee, which was too drying. Over five years now, and so far, so good.
I've been having crippling panic attacks for years and I'm convinced my gut/hiatal hernia is the source. I don’t have anxiety aside from when this randomly happens, my stomach tightens and I feel like I can't breathe. If this aligns with what you teach I'd love to see a video on this.
FYI, I am not a health professional. Have you been diagnosed with a hernia? Gut health IS so important. Make sure you eat FIBER (I like good old fashioned raisin bran). I also take magnesium and B12, along with costco brand multi. Also, have you seen any Vagus Nerve videos here on youtube. I've recently become very anxious myself, and I find a short walk and chamomile tea really help.
My boyfriend is coming to see you April 18 as a new patient- so hopeful that he gets the help he needs from you. It’s amazing to see how informative you are. If you see someone come in with a long list of his symptoms and previous care, that’s all me 😂
Super helpful video! Thank you Dr. Mark for your valuable information and your nice presentation about constipation! Keep up the good work! Warm greetings from Melbourne of Australia! 🙌❤👍
I'm 53 and have never had a colonoscopy. (Stupid I know.) I've been having constipation for about 5 months. I took a Cologuard test that game back positive. My colonoscopy is a month and a half away. I have read about false positives with Cologuard, but in conjunction with the unexplained and prolonged constipation, I am now utterly terrified that I might have colorectal cancer. The shape of my stool is often "pebbles," sometimes followed by a more cohesive "sausage" shape. Color ranges from normal brown to very dark brown, but never black. I urge everyone to get their colonoscopies on time, usually age 45, or earlier if you have unexplained problems with bowel movements that don't go away when you attempt to address them as I have.
Would bouncing on a trampoline directly after eating a large meal force the pylorus valve to open and force the food into the intestines? Or would the valve stay closed ?
Damn Dr. Cooper is feisty in this one lol Here is a situation that my doctor's can't seem to figure out: I'm 36, male and haven't had a solid or "fluffy" normal poop since 2017. Before 2017 I was completely fine and never had any GI issues. Ever since then it's usually diarrhea or a mix. If it IS solid, it comes out in very flat pieces, about as thin as a quarter would be. No blood is present and the colonoscopy didn't show any obstruction. Tests for celiac, crohn's and diverticulitis came back negative. No H Pylori present either. There is a bubbling sound on my upper-left abdomen when I breathe in and out, and even though I have diarrhea I'm almost constantly constipated until it all comes out at once and I have almost no control over holding it when that happens. There is also a burning sensation on the same upper-left part of my abdomen that goes away if I hold it with my hand. PPI treatments do not work, and the upper GI showed nothing abnormal either. I've been to 4 different GI doctors and since none of them can figure it out they just give up. It's incredibly frustrating.
@@MarkCooperMD I've already done that. It doesn't seem to matter what foods I eliminate or not. It happens from a salad or a cheeseburger. I have also done the fiber (metamucil) and miralax thing with no success. It's truly frustrating, and GI doctors seem to go through the list of primary culprits and when none of it matches they seem to just move on and forget about me. Nothing I am going through is normal for a healthy 36 year old male, especially such a radical change from how I use to be. I keep watching videos like yours hoping there is some information out there that my GI doctors are overlooking.
@@MarkCooperMD Please can you answer my question. 1. Last year when I had an "EGD" test , the GI said I have a 2 cm Hiatal Hernia. How can a hiatal hernia be Healed / Cured ??? How can Acid Reflux be Healed? And the Most Important question , *Please tell me how, I can Heal an Esophagus* ??? Thank you for all your help , this is very important.

I had diverticulosis & diverticulitis for years until I stopped eating gluten. No more acid reflux now either.
Thank you

Thanks for sharing. I’d suggest a food diary that you review with a GI. Usually these symptoms are food related.

Thanks. I appreciate the comment on the attempts at humor. While poop should be an easy topic to make funny, medicine isn’t.
